I am using dell laptop with windows 8.1 operating system. I want to install win 7 mode as virtual machine in win 8.1 . Is possible to install as virtual machine in win 8.1? If possible it need any additional license key for win 7 mode?
View 1 RepliesUpgraded my win 7 pro that had virtual XP mode to win 8.1 pro. Everything from Win 7 came with it including my install programs. Noticed the virtual xp file .vmcx is there but can't access it. So I installed Hyper-V and got to the point of connecting to Virtual Hard Disk. Noticed it creats a .vhdx file. I assume this would be a new file with nothing I had on my old .vmcx file. How do I get my old virtual files over to the new one?
If I can't would I be able to install the virtual file that I got from Microsoft's website, WinXpVirtual6.1KB958559x64RefreshPkg.msu (it included a license key), or I need to have another installation disk that has Windows XP with a license key?
How do I save a Virtual Machine to do a restore? I just finished a XP Pro VMware machine and I want to save it. There is a folder named Virtual Machines under My Documents. Is this what I backup?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows Virtual PC which was a 64-Bit version I installed, I got XP Home 32-Bit installed via it perfectly and tried to install Windows 8 x64 AND THEN Windows 8.1 x64 but on both I got the BSOD (in the Virtual Machine) almost straight away saying 64-bit CPU is not supported?
I've read this may be due to not having VTx but I do as my CPU is a 3470 (Ivy Bridge) and SIW says its enabled as does BIOS

In Windows 8 Pro I have created a virtual machine using Win XPSP3. I've tried everything I can to get an internet connection for my VM. I'm not on a network so I've created an external virtual switch. I've tried using both the legacy adapter and a network adapter. I've tried changing the IP address -even tried a DNS address but the best I've achieved so far is "limited or no Connectivity". I also tried Win 7 Home Premium VM with the same result - no internet connection. The virtual manager should set this up automatically

As seen on almost all the sources I visited, I installed VirtualBox and downloaded the last Ubuntu "iso" file. after having installed the new OS on virtualbox, I tried launching it and got the very often found "VT-x is disabled in the BIOS" error.
The solution also given in all the sources I visited is "enable Hyper-V" in the "windows features turn on or off" menu. Problem is : I can't find this option (I even looked in the least probable sub directories, just in case)
I found out this feature was only available for "Pro" versions of windows 8/8.1.
My question is : Is it feasible for me to run a virtual machine, or even run a machine on dual boot on my default-installed-windows 8 machine? I don't have the money to buy the pro package (which, for some reason, is MUCH more expensive than the "previous windows to 8.1 pro" update).
My hardware is more than sufficient: 64bits i7-4700HQ processor, 8Gb RAM DDR3l
I have recently upgraded to Windows 8.1. After the update what i have noticed is i lost wifi connectivity in the virtual machine which running Windows 2008 R2 server. I have Windows 8.1 and VMware workstation 8.0. Windows 2008 R2 is running in the Virtual machine and i was able to connect to wifi from the virtual machine and share files netween Windows 8 and Windows 2008 R2. but now i can't connect anymore. Even when i enable WLAN service on Windows 2008 R2, i don't see the wifi adapter in network settings.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using an AlienWare M14 machine. I tried to create a virtual machine locally using Client Hyper-V on Windows 8 Pro, but it still doesn't work (took me a lot of time). I added the Hyper-V features in "Turn windows feature on or off", and all of the requirements to run Hyper-V are fulfilled (SLAT, BIOS, 64 bits, ...) (I attach the msinfo32 output in this post). At the last step in creating a virtual machine, it says "... General access denied error... (0x80070005)" (for details, check my attached image).
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy machine won't fully shut down and it won't enter sleep mode without crashing. When I boot back up it gives me an error report and said that it didn't shut down properly. I tried doing a system restore to before this happened and it is still going on. I use a Crucial SSD for my OS, not sure if that could be the issue but I've used it without problems for about a year and half now.

I tried typing in my key to do a clean install on the laptop but I got this error message:
The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.
I bought these machines and therefore paid for the software, I should be able to install them on any machine I want. All of my machines are Dell, why can't I do this? What's going on?
I have Windows 8. Received a Toshiba Satellite p875 last year for Christmas. Recently when I shut down my laptop it goes into "installing update" mode, only it does not install anything. It will stay in this mode for hours or until I physically shut it off.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm well aware that the gx270 is an older machine but I've upgraded it several times now with various hardware so I'm happy with it's performance. What Ii'm not happy with is it's inability to run W8 and Dell's lack of interest to keep up it's bios upgrades to adjust to new os or software. I've tried installing W8 and found that i hadn't got NX bit enabled on my processor.
I looked for it in the bios but couldn't find it so I ran coreinfo.exe and found my processor has nx bit capabilities but i can't turn it on or off in the bios. I've tried installing W8 from the setup in sources file but it failed on reboot with the same nx bit error code.
I bought a dell 3521 laptop today. The first thing I did is backup the operating system to USD using the dell restore application. Then I installed the SSD and tried to restore my installation to the ssd. It fails because it says it can only be restored to a drive of 1TB (like the original hard drive.)
A restore dvd was not included in the system and I do not want to wait for 2 weeks untill I sort it out with dell to send me one. Any option in order to install windows 8 to the SSD without using the installation disk.
I thought of installing a previous windows licence I had (windows 7) , but when I try to install it from the bootable flash drive, it does not accept it as a bootable device. It must have something to do with the UEFI.
I've been salivating at the idea on installing W 8-64 Pro on a Dell Optiplex 755 at work. But a sudden reality check came over me & I realize Windows 8 doesn't necessarily work on older machines. The Dell is a Vista era machine. So maybe W 7-64 Pro would be a better choice?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI will install W8 enterprise on my dell latitude e6220. I got a dvd with the 32 bit enterprise iso and a txt file with the key. The txt file with the key says "works for pro and enterprise".
However, when I boot the dvd, it wont boot.. It only give me the blue w8 screen, but it wont go longer. A pop up says i need the 64 bit iso..
Can I download the 64 bit w8 enterprise iso from mdl and use my key..?? I suppose its an master key because the the company use the same key on hundred of w8 computers..
Next question: Is the language packs avabile in WU in enterprise?

I've recently acquired a tablet to pilot with my company. It is a Dell Latitude 10 ST2, and my issue is I'm trying to install and upgrade to Windows 8.1 Enterprise, but having no luck so far.
I have the 32-bit version of Win 8 Enterprise on a USB, and when I get to the "Installing Windows 8.1 screen" it get to 35%, and then gives a popup that the "Windows 8.1 Installation Has Failed". I was trying to see if there was a real error message or log to tell me what the issue is, but I haven't been able to locate anything yet. I don't even make it to the following screen ....
In july 2013 I have installed windows 7 (because of s/w that I had to use and were not supported by windows 8) on my Dell Inspiron (Service Tag DYGGMV1, I know its out of warranty) and was guided by dell support and was assured that I will be able to again install windows 8 with recovery media, and when I requested for Windows 8 setup CD and key I was told its not needed as I have recovery media with me. Now I am willing to shift to windows 8 again but recovery media is showing error ( error 0x4001100200001005).

I installed Windows 8.1 enterprise on my Dell Inspiron 17R yesterday. Everything seems to be working great, except for one thing. I just noticed that pinch to zoom is no longer working via the touchpad. I came to rely on this feature quite a bit when running Windows 7. There are no issues in device manager, but under Mice it shows PS/2 compatible mouse instead of Synaptics touchpad. How to correct this and get my pinch to zoom back.

Problem is, it suffers from wifi issues in that once it goes to sleep, the wifi automatically goes to "limited" and I need to retoggle the wifi setting to get it connected. I've tried all kinds of fixes - uninstall windows updates and reinstalling drivers, but to no avail.
So I basically said screw it, and set "sleep mode" to never on the power management option, and no more wifi issues. Seems like the wifi doesn't reactive properly when coming out to sleep mode. My question is - will this damage the tablet in the long run? In terms of battery life, I would think the main factor is the screen on time. I can just turn the screen off with a tap of the power button. Is there really that big of a difference?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Insipron 17R, core i5 zm2410, NVIDIA Geforce 525m, win8 64bit and I'm experiencing a problem with the hibernation/sleep mode.
About 2 weeks ago my laptop went to hibernation mode after beeing in sleep mode for 2 hours while on battery (to advoid full battery drain).
Now it doesn't do it anymore but stays in sleep mode for the whole time and drains the battery.
I usually detach the power cable from the laptop over night because of the noise from the power adapter and the laptop always hibernated after beeing in sleep mode. I went over the configuration in power options and power plans, and even reseted and configured them again, without success.
The only changes that were made to the system are the important windows updates...
I am trying to Initialize TPM on windows 8.1 and it is saying..
"Your TPM is currently running in Legacy mode. If you'd like to use TPM application for this version of Windows, Please contact your administrator."
Now I have clear TPM once. Disable and enable it in BIOS still no change. I am using UEFI bios and secure boot is enabled. How can I enable TPM coz I need to encrypt my hard drive without TPM it is a very hard thing to do.
My laptop is Latitude E6530.
