My machine won't fully shut down and it won't enter sleep mode without crashing. When I boot back up it gives me an error report and said that it didn't shut down properly. I tried doing a system restore to before this happened and it is still going on. I use a Crucial SSD for my OS, not sure if that could be the issue but I've used it without problems for about a year and half now.
View 3 RepliesI recently bought a new laptop which has windows 8 installed on it and at times when I put it into sleep mode the screen goes off but the computer is still running and I have to use the power button to turn it off(Which I don't really like to do). When I turn it off the same thing happens and sometimes when I'm lucky it will give me an error message .I have download all of the updates for windows 8 which did not solve it and I disabled fast bootup which didn't either I am just wondering if I download 8.1 will it fix it although I installed 8.1 on another laptop and the same thing happened and then I installed just 8 which gave me the same result.

I tried to run powercfg /energy command as it's suggested on some web-site. It reported about 6 errors. First 5 of them are about USB suspend and the latest is about disabled PCI ASPM.Here you can download full report: [URL] .... Maybe I should re-install some drivers?
I've done a fresh install of 8.1 RT and all appears to be well except if I shut down.
If I select restart it restarts fine.
However if I select Shutdown, I get the woindows shreen telling me it's shutting down, then the monitor goes blank, but the PC is going indefinitely (I've given it 15 mins)
If I press the reset button on the PC case it reboots into windows without any "windows didn't shut down" type messages during bootup.
However if I check the event log, it does say

Using Windows 8 Pro.I have tried all the various permutations to get into safe mode (ms config, start up options etc.).
This is what happens: I use MS Config or one of the other ways (tried them all!) to get into safe mode. The computer seems to be booting into safe mode when I get a blue screen (not BSOD) which pops up and very quickly disappears, and then the computer reboots normally (into Windows 8). The screen says something like 'Windows has encountered a problem and needs to restart'.
How to enter the safe mode in windows8.1. Do NOT tell me pressing F8 when PC starts up .OK?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am facing a peculiar issues with my Vaio Machine. I use a Huwaei 3G E173 Modem for connecting Internet. I started using this in my new vaio machine too. Whenever I use the hibernate option, it tend to goto the last phase of Hibernation i.e the screen goes off, the fan starts screaming and after a moment it restarts. So, to be succinct, the new windows 8.1 machine doesn't enter in hibernation mode, if I have connected the modem. The modem has a CD Rom emulation for their proprietary software installation, so I thought it would be the cause and hence I tried to change Boot Options in UEFI BIOS to Primary, Secondary and Third as HDD, Network and External device from HDD, CD, Ext. Device.
I have also tried to disable that Power Management settings available in Driver Settings -> Hardware Settings and Un-tick the "Allow this device to Wake the computer"
P.S If I do not connect the computer to Internet with this modem and try to Hibernate it does the Job, when I use the Huwaei Modem only it creates the issue.
But nothing seems work out. Any resolution for this?
When I leave my computer after a session, it automatically goes into sleep mode after a period of time and remains that way till I wake it up.
However when I manually put it to sleep ( via shutdown options) , it goes to sleep immediately but for only a while ( a few minutes) then it shows the desktop screen again. If I then leave it alone after it self awake , it goes back to sleep as described above.
i have upgraded my laptop to windows 8 everything works fine when it is on but when i try to shut down or sleep it just has a black sceen and does not turn off or sleep and it becomes unresponsive so have to hold down the power button to reboot it.
also whenever windows needs restarting it freezes on the restarting screen so again have to reboot by holding down power
I recently purchased a new desktop and it came with Windows 8 installed on it. Everything worked fine for the first two weeks. Then, I noticed my fan was running at full speed when I'd come into the room after a while. My desktop was in sleep mode, so I was like, Woke my desktop up and the fan returned to normal. Every time my computer goes into sleep mode, the fan kicks on full blast. Okay... maybe no sleep mode, but the fan will shut off when I shut down my computer, right? Nope again. When my computer is shut down, the fan is still running at full speed. The thing is, when my computer is in sleep mode or shut down, the fan runs at full speed, but when I'm using it (like now) the fan is normal.
I've been looking around trying to find something related to my problem. I've came across a few articles on the forums, like Fans still running after shutdown of windows 8. Seems like my same problem, but it was during his install he shut down Windows. However, there was talk of this "bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes", but I don't really want to mess with the my boot.ini files... I'm not bad at small programs, but I really don't want to toy around and destroy my desktop right now.
I've read some other articles about a Windows 8 laptop in idle mode with the same problem, and they said it was antivirus related. I figured that if that were the case, shouldn't have I seen it during the first time I booted up my desktop?
I think I started noticing this problem AFTER I installed some windows updates from Microsoft... Any way to verify that everything went smoothly, I kinda assumed and left my computer running while it was updating...

This used to happen only intermittently, and I assumed it was just a feature of Windows 8 and I put up with it for a while. Machine started shutting down unexpectedly, and refusing to wake from sleep a few days after being built.
A few days later and the problem has got worse now - BSOD with various errors, such as MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE, SYSTEM_PTE_MISUSE, and others. Oddly, desktop search has also stopped working.
I have updated the drivers and the BIOS, but this doesn't seem to have had any effect.
I can get something like 110 FPS in Dota 2 but after sleep mode it will fluctuate from 10 to 30, 40 if I'm lucky, FPS. This happens on Windows 7 as well, I have to constantly reboot my PC and obviously I'd rather not do that, since it's bad for my hard drive.

I ususally use my friends computer because mine is broken. I know his password so I can access his computer. Recently he changed it and now I typed the wrong password. Is that power button in the bottom left corner only shutdown or when pressing it it will give me power options?

my current issue is not waking up, every night I put my pc to sleep and the next morning when I click the mouse or push a key either nothing happens or the tower lights up and fans kick on but the screen stays black. and I must power down and restart

The only other weird errors I get in my event viewer are these, and they have to do with windows search.

I am running Windows 8.1 professional. I was just wondering, as I am having some concerns with my pc sometime through the night as it just wakes up for no reason.
I am not sure if someone is accessing this remotely or what but sometime I see a folder that is open or my email that shouldn't be or at least I think I have closed it before I put it to sleep.

I'm runnig windows 8 on my Sony labtop. The labtop is located in the kitchen. I connect the TV in the living room in ''dual screen mode'' to the labtop. When i'm listing to music on the labtop (windows media player), the 2 screens won't go to sleep even if I choose 1min to the sleep programing function. I found that there's two ways to choose the delay, in ''power saving'' mode and in control pannel. The thing is that the fix image on the labtop that is duplicate to the TV is actually breaking the TV (the images stay like phantom).
find a way to activate the ''fluid ligns animation'' on the TV afer one minute of inactivity on the labtop while listing to music.
I have turned sleep mode off in power settings and turned off requirement for password yet after no activity within a very short space of time I am required to log back in. How do I disable these functions for good ??

I'm running windows 8 home addition which was pre-installed when I bought the computer. I have set the unit to sleep after 1 hour but it is inconsistent. Sometimes it goes to sleep, other times it doesn't. I don't know how to resolve this issue. Also, what is the general feeling about having the computer go to sleep and any pros or cons.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am facing the issue that after waking my new Lenovo X240 (with 8.1 installed on SSD) from sleep mode it takes up to 50 seconds until the lock screen appears. After setting up Windows to bypass the lock screen altogether waking from sleep mode now only takes a couple of seconds, which is how I would expect it to be.
However, I would actually like to keep the lock screen for security reasons, but haven't figured out what could be the cause for this massive delay?!
