Debugging :: Intel N2230 - BSoD Always With Wireless Card?
Nov 5, 2013
I tried to update my driver for my wireless card (Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230). Basically, I've been getting a number of different errors and then the BSOD from the Bad Pool thing to others everytime I try to:
- update the driver (through network & sharing and also win update)
- uninstall the driver
- disable the wireless adapter
It will also randomly shut down and give me the BSoD every few hours without doing anything other than surfing on firefox. I've attached the logs as directed in the sticky

I am using an ASUS K55N laptop, equipped with an AMD A8-4500M APU, 4GB single-channel RAM, and of course, Windows 8 standard x64.
Occasionally, anywhere from an hour to three days after a boot-up, the computer will hang while in sleep mode (screen will be off but indicator lights will remain on for about 5 minutes in sleep mode) and shut off. Upon restarting, I'll be greeted by a "Your PC ran into a problem and had to restart" Windows prompt. Of course, a minidump will also be produced. However, there is no BSOD anywhere to be found.
Upon looking into these dump files with WinDbg, all of them point toward my Atheros AR9485 wireless card's driver; either athw8x.sys or athrx.sys depending on the driver I was using at the time. I have tried several Atheros drivers, to no avail. I have tried using new drivers, old drivers, Windows 7 drivers, you name it. At this moment, I am using a Windows 7 driver. Yet, it has not solved the issue.
Verifier is disabled, although I believe my issue can be attributed to debugging. I have literally tried everything and it persists.
Attached are my SF diagnostics tool logs.

Ever since I have upgraded from my trusty HD 6790 setup (2 in crossfire) to my GTX 780 (evga sc acx edition, if that matters) it has been a nightmare.
I originally had Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my PC, it was hard to get anything done, it would BSOD pretty much all the time, and just getting logged in was a pain, I tried multiple drivers and even tried an older driver with an inf mod.
Upgrading to Windows 8 made things a bit better, but games were jerky, crash-y and froze alot; formatting my data drive sorted this. I still got alot of random BSOD's until I upgraded my motherboard and cpu.
I went from an ASUS P7P55D-E PRO with an i3 530 to a Gigabyte Z87X-D3H-CF with an i7 4770k
I'm currently running the latest driver, I have also tried different drivers with my new setup, apart from the older one as I can't get it to work on 8.1.
My BSOD's occur every few hours, the bug check string changes alot, but the crash address is pretty much always ntoskrnl.exe (got this in win7, too)
This is the best my pc has ever ran with this gpu, crashing every few hours. I tend to just be browsing the web, or leaving it idle when I goto sleep when it BSOD's.
The only thing I can think of now is a bad power supply or bad card, although I highly doubt this as my psu ran fine with my crossfire setup + is 750w, then again, it isn't the best psu ever. It's a powercool 750w psu, not modular, I can't find it online. It has 4 pci-e connectors, 2 of which are 8-pin.
I had 2 BSOD's typing this out :L so much for it happening every few hours.
I have attached the files from the diagnostics tool.
I also doubt my ram is bad as my PC ran fine with my AMD gpu's.

Issue solved as of Intel HD Graphics Driver 10.18.10.3345
I get a BSOD with message DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (igdkmd64.sys) shortly after launching any game. The driver is linked to Intel's Integrated Graphics which I have updated with 'Windows 8.1 Ready' drivers. My laptop has a Nvidia dedicated GPU which is what I set games to run with, so I'm not sure why Intel's drivers are failing since using a fresh 8.1 install I have been receiving low memory error messages whilst playing games despite having 16GB of RAM.

I am an owner of the Lenovo y510p laptop. It is notorious for having a internet connectivity problems with its intel n 2230 wireless card. In my case the internet connection would drop every minute at its worst and every 6 hours at its best. I have looked for solutions to this issue and as possible result I am in the current predicament. Here are the most likely culprits:
1) I have installed Wireless_17.0.5_De164 from [URL] ...
2) I have uninstalled Intel Management Engine Interface from the Device Manager [URL] ...
At this point I have received BSOD, driver_corrupted_expool. I rebooted the computer and it was working fine and and then when I tried further changing options in my wifi card I would get BSOD, but then the system would not boot without getting BSOD. I panicked, and have re-installed windows while keeping all the files. Following the re-installation of windows the BSOD problem still occurs and is consistently occurring when I try changing Advanced settings of my wifi card from the Device Manager window.
Furthermore, I have got BSOD on other occasions
1) Freshly after rebooting when I opened Firefox.
2) While making a call on skype.
I have received several errors including bad_pool_header.
I have attached my diagnostics.

I just got a BSOD. It happened while i was in a Skype call, listening to music, and about to go into match of League of Legends.
I've actually been getting quite a few of BSOD lately. The one I got before this one was
Kernel_Security_Check_Failure. Which I also got today.
I only seem to get BSOD when I have a sound card installed into my computer. I even bought a new sound card in hope to maybe fix this problem but I still get it. I've tried a few things too, I've even replaced my ram. I actually thought it was my AMD motherboard at first so I completly replaced my mother and cpu to a intel cpu and motherboard and still i get BSOD. The only thing I have not changed out has been my 2 Graphics cards and my SSD. But I didn't start getting BSOD till i either got my SSD or got more ram, I can't remember which. But like I said, I've already completely changed out my ram.

My problem is Windows 8 will occasionally BSOD after the sound goes quiet or dead while watching a video or playing a game and I turn off my M-Audio Fast Track Pro in an attempt to recover sound. This is basically a soundcard that is used to record music or MIDI components. It is attached via USB. I have disabled all other soundcards besides the M-Audio.
Im certain the drivers for this device are current and up-to-date. They do state to support Windows 8 on the M-Audio website found at Fast Track Pro Drivers
My tool named "Blue Screen Viewer" shows to have 2 dump files, but I used the "SF_Diagnostic_Tool" as per forum instructions. The zip file has been attached ...

I have attached as requested the archive containing the SF Diagnostic Tool v5 dumps.
I am receiving a huge number of BSOD errors, after each one the nVidia graphics card is nowhere to be found, rebooting the system does not work, in order to bring the nVidia card back I need to shutdown and power on the system, 2 attempts are required, first power on attempt always fails and the system shuts down right after the bios logo.
The video card was recently changed to a brand new one.

I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 recently. Now when my computer wakes up from sleep I receive a DRIVER_IRQ_NOT LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD related to cmudaxp.sys, which I've discovered is related to my Asus Xonar Essence STX sound card. I am running the Windows 8.1 beta drivers directly from Asus's website, and the drivers were working fine before my clean install. What could be causing this problem now, after everything was fine before?
Specs:
MOBO: MSI Z87-G45
CPU: Intel i7 4770k
RAM: Kingston HyperX Black 8GB 1600Mhz
GPU: Asus GTX680 DirectCuII Top Edition
WIFI: Asus PCE-AC68 Wireless Card

I just updated my Nvidea graphics card, and for some reason after restarting my laptop, in order to install these files to the system, the "System Thread Exception Not Handled" Blue screen error flashed on my screen, and later redirected me to an automatic repair screen, which attempted to fix this issue.
I ended up restarting the laptop on safe mode, uninstall my Nvidea graphics card and completely reinstall it from scratch. But for some reason it keeps giving me the same error each time I restart my laptop. After some research online, apparently there's an issue with Avast and Nvidea?
You will find attached the SF Diagnostic Tool grab all option files needed to view the issue at hand. Many are saying that I've not been installing the corrent drivers, but that's not possible, as it's directly from the MSI website (GT70 0NE) linked to the official Nvidea website, saying that the driver includes my graphics card (680M).
While other people are saying that maybe Avast is causing some issue towards the graphics card?I have the Avast 2014 Professional Antivirus.
Laptop Specs:
Windows 8.1
MSI Dragon Edition 2, GT70 0NE, Intel Core i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40 GHz 64 bit
NVIDIA GeForce GTX680M
Intel HD Graphics 4000
I'm currently running my laptop without the nVidea Graphics Card Drivers, and seems to be fine so far.

After the most recent update from Windows Store for Windows 8.1 Pro, my Intel Wireless drivers got busted. I could only connect to the Internet via the Ethernet cable and no matter how hard I try re-installing/uninstalling the drivers for the wireless drivers, I still get the same outcome.
In Device Manger, I checked the listing for Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection. In the Properties menu, I get this message:
This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.
I went to install software from Intel's website for diagnosing the wireless driver/connection status, so I ran Intel PROSet/WIreless Tools, and after clicking Diagnose > Run Tests for Hardware Test, I get this message:
Wireless Hardware is not bound to transport driver. My wi-fi switch on the left side of my laptop is already turned on. I switched it off, uninstalled and deleted the driver and restarted the laptop to see if I could reinstall. Upon turning back the switch on after logging into my Windows account, I still get the same outcome: code 12.

I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 7, and I cannot get a wireless connection. I have a Linksys Wireless G Card v4.1, and I've attempted to use multiple different drivers, but none of them work. At one point I was able to get a "Network Controller" to show up, but after rebooting my computer, it went away (and I was unable to get it again). Is it possible to get an internet connection with my card and Windows 8.1? Or will I have to stick with Windows 7?

I recently had a crash on my system while updating my ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics card.
This occurred yesterday while updating to Catalyst v13.1, released on Jan 17 2013. Once I start the install, at around mid installation the BSOD appears and restarts my computer. I have since then done a clean install of Windows 8 Pro and it keeps appearing every time I try to update my graphics card. I've had this card for about a year now and with no problems until now.
The crash dump file appears in c:/windows/minidump
PC SPECS:
Gateway DX
Windows 8 Pro 64bit
AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 2.7Ghz

ATI Radeon HD 5450 1GB

I have the very latest Windows 8.1 update.
My internal multi card reader has been working fine for just under a year but just recently it has stopped recognising SD cards. When I insert a card it normally opens an explorer window but now it does nothing and does not show in file explorer.
Though if I click on .. file explorer/manage/disk management .. it then opens an explorer window for the card.
I have the setting in autoplay - memory card and removable drive set to open explorer.
I don't think the card reader is becoming faulty.

So, yesterday is the first time this has happened. It has never happened before. The first time it happened yesterday, I Was watching some TV shows online, and then I got the PAGE_FAULT(...) error code.
I tried running my Anti_Malware scanner to see if that could pick something up. It crashed again just as it started.
So I tried Advanced SystemCare. Again, same problem.
And it just keeps happening.
I tried refreshing my computer to see if that would do anything, but it crashed during that too.
I ran the SF Diagnostic program and I have the .DMP files (But I can't seem to upload them. Maybe I'm trying to upload the wrong ones, I don't know.)
Anyway, these are the specs of my system. HP ENVY DV-7 7270CA (less than 8 months old) running Windows 8 (as I wasn't able to update to 8.1. I got the 0x80000004 error, or whatever it was. I can't remember exactly), 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM, Intel Core i7 3630QM, NVIDIA GT630M (2GB) GPU, and a 1TB 5400RPM HDD. Don't know what brand, I didn't check.

-Ram-TEST lasted nine hours and successfully completed
-Change the motherboard (ASUS Sabertooth 990FX From R2.0 to MSI 890FX-GD70, the latter shall use at this time, the other I sold it)
-Changed video card (ATI 6870 Updated NVIDIA 760)
-Replaced SSD where the system resides, had a value SMART wrong, incorrectly replaced by Samsung (EVO 250GB)
-Analyzed by-DUMP bluescreenanalizer and semrpe the same file with the same bug tails
-Windows-formatted 3 times already
The temperatures are good .. I also have a Corsair H100i and a fairly spacious case that allows good ventilation (CM Storm Trooper)
This is my components:
CPU: AMD FX8350
RAM: 16GB (4 x 4) G SKILL 1866 MHz CAS 8
SSD: 250GB Samsung EVO
Video Card: Zotac 760 amp edition!
HDD: 3TB WD, 250GB WD
Motherboard: MSI 890FX-GD70
Sound Card: Asus Xonar Phoebus ONLY
Case: CM Storm Trooper Black
Win 8.1 x64 Original
I repeat that I do not overclock, the frequencies are those of series
Now I'll explain when I turn on my pc at COLD (the day after practically) happens to me .. and not always! However, if you reboot immediately after work PERFECTLY, and for hours and hours! without presenting problems or other, and even under stress. The next day, however, having been off the night it happens it happens .. this blue screen without doing anything specific! Coincidentally, sometimes even if I do nothing on windows just turned on, or a complete on the internet, or other, causally!

I started a thread a while ago and You Fellas diagnosed the problem was the faulty RAM. So I bought and replaced using 2 other slot of memory that wasn't used before (i have 4 slots). It took some time, but sadly it started crashing again. 4 dmps and routine stuff attached. It happens usually in games but it happens sometimes in desktop so its random for me. What component or anything else is corrupted.

For about two weeks I've sometimes been having a BSOD within five after startup (always, otherwise I won't get a BSOD until I restart):
"DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (iaStorA.sys)"
I've been posting on Techforums here: [URL]
And thought I might as well post here as well for other opinions while I test the drivers.

About 2 - 3 weeks ago, I've got a lot of bluescreens, and I've solved it by removing my USB wireless adapter and connecting to my router by using an Ethernet cable, this reduced the amount of them, I think that I only got one after that. In the last sunday, my hard drive broke and bought a new one in monday, and after formatting it and reinstalling Windows 8, the bluescreens returned and now they're more than ever!!!! And one thing I have noticed, is that two of them appeared when I was copying big files which total size was about 60 GB from a directory to another inside the C: .
I'm starting to think that this is related to the motherboard or something like that.
