CPU Increase Each Time Comp Wakes Up From Sleep
Jan 3, 2014
I recently noticed this strange behavior in my pc. When I restart my computer, cpu usage will stay around 20%, and fluctuate the usage of my processes (system host and firefox being the big hitters) to maintain this general figure. Upon putting my computer to sleep and reawakening, the symptoms are the same, except the usage hovers around 40%. This will continue until usage hovers around 99-100%.
I also just noticed that your TSG SysInfo (included below) says i have windows defender disabled, but I have been under the assumption that it is enabled. It has been since i uninstalled AVG as this was once a heavy hitter in my processes and I thought a cause to some of this.
Before this I didn't think this was a virus, because I've run multiple malware searches including malwarebytes in and outside of safemode but now I'm not so sure.
Also most likely related, my pc takes (literal) hours to shut down.

I just got a new Win 8 computer. I love it, however it wakes from sleep mode every 15 minutes on the dot. It will wake for about 2 minutes than sleep again.
Is this something it should do in order to get some air flow every once in a while or can I stop it from doing this? I have searched around online and tried everything i have come across. I turned off the setting that allows programs to wake the computer, as well as made sure the ethernet connection doesn't wake it.

I am running Windows 8.1 professional. I was just wondering, as I am having some concerns with my pc sometime through the night as it just wakes up for no reason.
I am not sure if someone is accessing this remotely or what but sometime I see a folder that is open or my email that shouldn't be or at least I think I have closed it before I put it to sleep.
I am not sure what to do as I have run my antivirus software with little showing up and my malware, completing a full system scan.
I also have looked at my even viewer pictured here to see if there is something unusual or strange happening.

I've clean installed windows 8.1 pro vl x64 in my laptop (Windows Media Center is not installed of course). and activated successfully with KMSmicro 5.0.1. Windows is fully updated.
I have this problem: it wakes unexpectedly from sleep at either 04:00 or 05:00 at night.
I check in the Event Viewer and the first entries after the wake are always, eg.:
Code:
Event: Kernel-General
Description:
The system time has changed to 2013-11-24T03:19:07.500000000Z from 2013-11-24T00:19:12.031510800Z.
Change Reason: System time synchronized with the hardware clock.
Code:
Event: BTHUSB
Description:
Windows cannot store Bluetooth authentication codes (link keys) on the local adapter. Bluetooth keyboards might not work in the system BIOS during startup.
and
Code:
Event: Power-Troubleshooter
The system has returned from a low power state.
Sleep Time: 2013-11-24T00:19:02.334201600Z
Wake Time: 2013-11-24T03:19:09.179443500Z
Wake Source: Unknown
The following is what I've tried so far based on these two links:
Spoiler: [URL] ....
1a. Go to Device Manager - Select each keyboard and mouse device and right-click Properties - Go to the Power Management tab and untick "Allow this device to wake the computer".
1b. Double checked the above for my onboard ethernet network card
2. Checked in Task Scheduler and no active task is set to allow to "wake the computer to run this task" having such launch time.
3. Checked in Automatic Maintenance and "Allow scheduled maintenance to wake up my computer at the scheduled time" is disabled.
4. Ran cmd as admin, and:
Code:
C:Windowssystem32>powercfg /lastwake
Wake History Count - 1
Wake History [0]
Wake Source Count - 0
[Code] .....
5. checked in Power Options>change plan settings>change advanced power settings and the "Allow wake timers" is disabled for both On Battery and Plugged in.
6. There's no relevant setting in the BIOS.

I've actually had this problem for a while, I really should have taken care of it sooner. It is mostly because I found ways around it, which probably aren't too good for my computer. If I leave music running in the background and put the computer to sleep then the error won't occur. Needless-to-say - and as the title says- The system crashes upon waking up from sleep mode. The screen turns blue and says: "Sorry, your computer encountered an error and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you" The results from the diagnostic test have been attached
System recoveries and restores haven't worked, hence the reason why I've sort of given up on the problem until now.

As of late , after awaking from sleep mode, the Action Center is requesting me to re-enter my password. I am clueless as to why this is happening.
The only change is that I cancelled my MS Office 365 [P6] subscription.
Maybe the unlinking? of [original1@original1.onmicrosoft.com] from [original1@live.com] is causing this behavior. Dunno?
I had used the on microsoft as my Windows 8 login account and had a few problems with that.
So I deleted that 'user' and created a new one with the .live email.
But that was more than a year ago. It's not the end of the world or anything, just a bit annoying and worrisome that it may be a 'bogus' pop-up in Action Center.

I have a custom built computer running Windows 8.1 64-bit. Recently, it stopped going to sleep on it's own (except the first time that the power plan is followed after boot). Otherwise, the monitor goes to sleep and that is it. After a bunch of other attempts and fixes, I have found that there is a driver that is blatantly disregarding powercfg settings (as seen here: [URL] .....). This has been going on for over a week. I have run sfc /scannow, and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth with no luck.

The display and the sleep feature timers do not work. I just did a complete restore to try and correct this problem and another problem, which was no restore points and no ability to create one. The restore points are working for now, I mean that I was able to create a restore point. The display and sleep timer, not so, still a problem.
I've had this desktop Windows 8 computer since November and honestly I don't know if this has been a problem the whole time or not. Definitely, not the display, I know it has worked, but the sleep timer I'm not sure. I set the timer and just assume it sleeps and then goes into hibernation after a certain amount of time. With all the refreshing and restoring and changing over to this computer, I've not been paying much attention to the sound of the fan or the missing orange color on the power button (not visible, on the side of the computer).
I've set the timer through the Power Options feature in the Control Panel to 10 minutes for the sleep and to turn off the display to 3 minutes. Neither of them respond after set times. The computer is still wide awake and the display is not gone.
I have also gone to the "Change Advance Power Settings" menu box and turned off the hybrid sleep, which didn't work, and the Multimedia Settings in this menu box to turn on the setting "Allow The Computer To Sleep". Neither of these fixes did anything.
How can the computer not respond to something so basic and fundamental to its design?
Lastly, I'm wondering how this idea of powering down works at all. What I would like is for the computer to sleep after 20 minutes and then go into hibernation after 45 minutes. This would be when I'm done for the day. I have set the hibernation time in the "Change Advance Power Settings" menu box, but of course that does not respond either.

I started to notice a change with the clock every now and then. I finally concluded that the clock does not change during sleep, restart, or shutdown.
My computer goes to sleep often, and when it wakes up from sleep, the time is the same as when it was prior to sleeping, not synchronizing to the correct time after waking up.
I've done some research and I fell onto the official Windows thread where they explained the use of third-party-utility will cause this problem.
The big problem here is that I don't have the single clue which ones. I tried uninstalling some, not sure if I left any utilities out. The utilities I've used are the general ones for visual styles and themes.
I'm running Windows 8.1.

I'm having the same problem with my Acer w500 which uses mSATA SSD drives only. I have upgraded to a Mushkin Atlas 120GB V series SSD and obviously upgraded to Windows 8 (professional) and every time it wakes from sleep it says there was a problem and needs to reboot. I'm going to put the stock 32GB Sandisk SSD back in later today and see if the problem is still present. I do have the latest BIOS on this computer and the latest firmware on the Mushkin SSD, drivers are the latest from Acer and most are November 2012 dates. There are no BIOS settings on this computer, all I really get are boot order, AHCI or IDE mode, and a couple other trivial things so I can't change suspend to ram or suspend to disk settings. I'll make the changes to hopefully show the BSOD when it comes out of sleep so I can try to gather more info.
This was a "clean" upgrade install (do not keep any settings or applications) which puts all the old stuff in a .old file, it was a clean from restore disk win7 that was used as the base OS to allow an upgrade, and is the 32 bit version of Windows 8.

Running a family PC, with different user login's. Users is leaving the PC even sometimes after logoff not putting the PC to sleep or switching on the PC, do not log in and leaves the PC running. (training of users, no result).
Task: Ensure the PC goes to sleep within reasonable time.
Sleep settings does not seem to work after user logoff. (3 different login profiles) all set to same standard "balanced" scheme. The standard scheme is changed/set to HDD off 20min, sleep 20 min, hibernate 240min.
A small app is called by screen saver logs the user off after 15 min inactivity with a 1 min warning screen. All working fine with logoff etc.
I had hoped the adjusted standard settings "balanced" was cascaded to the "logoff" state, but it seems to run it's own life after logoff, meaning the PC keeps running (screen goes black as set in the "standard scheme) however the power settings is not putting it to sleep, it takes hours...
The Ethernet card "hard wire" is set to not wake, the wireless adapter is disabled, lock screen is disabled.
Have also tried in the registry to set all default user schemes to = 5 (this was working in XP after logoff) but seems to have no effect in Windows 8. I'm not having Windows 8 pro, so GPO is not an option.
Here comes the questions:
Case, after logoff I want the PC to sleep after 20 min.
Where is the settings for "logoff" state (i.e. no user logged in and after user logoff) in the registry
How to changed the setting in the registry, meaning Dword, name, value for 20 min to sleep

Thought this was problem - Microsoft writes "When you resume a computer from sleep or from hibernation, the SATA hard disk drivers require the SATA hard disks to be ready within 10 seconds. However, a large SATA hard disk may take longer than 10 seconds to be ready. In this situation, the resume operation times out." in their fix for W7 - You receive various Stop error messages in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2 when you try to resume a computer that has a large SATA hard disk
Have tried a variety of things like checking all current drivers, turning off hybrid sleep, power troubleshooter, windows update and the like on instruction but my ASUS p7p55d-e doesn't seem to have any Windows 8 specific drivers.
boot drive C: (partitioned into two logical drives)
Attached dump files as instructed.

I'm not sure when this problem started happening, but recently, when I plug in or unplug the power of my Galaxy S4, the computer will wake from sleep. I'm running CyanogenMod 11 on it, which is based on Android 4.4.2. I haven't installed or configured any apps on my PC to allow for this, nor any apps on the phone. How I can stop it?

-If the computer is asleep (S3), it will wake up at the scheduled time, but the task never runs??!!
I have attached the XML export of the task ....

I am tired of having a computer in my bedroom waking up sometimes multiple times in the morning hours--like approximately 3 or 4 A.M. Support people have tried to stop this operation but to no avail. It still is doing it although less frequently now. This morning at 3:14 A.M., it woke up automatically and then shut down a few minutes later.
In Event Viewer it said at 3:14 A.M.: The system time has changed to 2013-10-06T10:14:28.500000000Z from 2013-10-06T06:11:17.671868600Z. Change Reason: System time synchronized with the hardware clock. I attached a screen shot of the info in Event Viewer, for your reference.
Why does the computer have to do this at 3:14 A.M.? Can't this occur some other time like during the day when the computer is running?

I'm planning on trading laptops. I do audio production and gaming. I have an i3 and the cpu is clocked at 2.4 ghz and he has an i5 clocked at 1.8. How much of a difference will this impact performance? For better or worse?
I am curious because I had a desktop a while back and it had a Core 2 Duo @ 2.8 and I went to this i3 @2.4 laptop and the cpu sucks in comparison to the desktop...I was originally thinking the i3 would be a increase since it was newer architecture.
I would still think on the graphics side its definitely an upgrade because the i3 uses Intel HD Graphics and it sucks...it doesnt even use opengl. The other uses a Nvidia GeForce GT 740M.

I'm working with an HP ElitePad, a 10" Win 8 tablet with no mouse/keyboard. One of the pieces of software I'm working with is only accessable via right-clicking (press and hold) its icon in the taskbar and selecting to launch it.
The issue I'm having is that the icons are very small and I need to get this working for an end user who would endlessly be missing it.
How to increase the size of the icons? All I can find so far is the checkmark in the options to make them smaller.

Toshiba Laptop
(1) How to increase the font size of Windows Explorer?
(2) Is it possible to put in folder, file name in the TaskBar? I can pin applications like Ms Word, Power point but not any specific file or folder which I am using.
(3) The time in the task bar is showing as 23:34.How can I make it to 11:34?
(4) Like Windows XP is it possible to bring in a kind of a "Show Desktop" in the task bar so that I can quickly move into the Desktop from a current window.

I thought the Win 8 File History backup feature looked like a good idea so I bought a 1TB external hard drive to use solely for backup. I was thinking that I would be able to store a massive history of backups on it but I can only set the size of the offline cache to a maximum of 20%. Why is it limited to such a small amount of space? Why not 80% or 100%? Is there a registry setting to increase this?
It seems to be a strange arbitrary thing to set it to such a small amount of space if you want to use a drive dedicated for the purpose.

I was wondering is there any way to increase the data transfer rate on SATA drives. My MB has SATA 3 and I have a Samsung HD 154UI drive on SATA /300 where I have Windows 8 x64 installed. The performance under Windows is 5.9. This is the lowest on the list. CPU 7.4, Memory 7.4, Graphics 7.9, Gaming graphics 7.9, Hard disk 5.9...Is there a way to get it higher without replacing the drive. The drive is new (only 3 months old) I have two of these drives and two Seagate drives that are 2 tera which are 1 year old.
