View 5 Replieswhy it is that I have trouble browsing in high speed despite the fact that the wireless adapter receives data at 1 Mbps minimum? I haven't been able to watch videos on Youtube, read the news etc because the browser takes ages to load the full page. I checked which applications are connected and they haven't exchanged much data as you can see below:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI dual boot with win 7 and win 8. I have faster download speed when i'm in win 7 than when i'm in win 8. Obviously my router wireless settings is the same for both OS. I Googled this and it seems that it's a problem for a lot of users. If it's a question of updating drivers, my laptop is an Acer and i checked their website and they only have drivers for win 7. Could i change win 8 drivers with the win 7 one? Would that work? Are there settings in win 8 that i should check? I have a 6mbps connection and when i check my connection speed at Speedtest.Net i get about 5.25 mbps when i'm in win 7, but i get about 1.65 mbps when i'm in win 8. What is causing such a big difference in speed?
View 9 Replies View Relatedthe new Task Manager I started to care about it after installing Windows 8. Normally my internet speed is only about 1 mbps (~8 mbit). Because of that, the task managers' "Network" bar shows wrong percents. I assume that that is because Windows reports wrong wired internet speed (100 mbps).
Is there anyway to change it so hopefuly I can see meaningful data?
My internet speed has suddenly deteriorated from what it was. I had a steady 6-7 Mb/s down and 1 Mb/s up , but now I have a constant speed like this :
I use a DGN 1000 , its around 2 years old .I have talked to my ISP (Talk Talk UK) and they tell me they do not support my router. Talked to Netgear via tech support as well and my settings seem to be correct with the newest firmware update.
I bought i new TOSHIBA Satellite C55D - A - 15H it came with windows 8.1 but I didn't liked it so I installed Windows 7 Ultimate and now i'm getting slow wireless and Ethernet speeds. I tried to reinstall drivers and so on. Btw other computers are getting much more Internet speed than i'm getting.

I just got a new laptop (Asus s400ca) and I've been having wireless connection issues from the start. It originally had windows 8.0. I thought it would change when I went to 8.1. It hasn't. I have tried to reinstall the drivers. I've done several commands that I have seen around different forums. Today was the first time I have been able to access my wireless, however the speed is extremely slow. I went to speedtest.net to see what my average ping was and it was 2238 and my download speed was .17 mps and my upload speed was .13. I compared with wifes computer and hers is running a download speed of 17.6

Broadcom 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi adapter
Wireless Router: Arris TG862G Router.
My laptop was able to connect to my home router in the initial setup of the computer, but within about 1-2 hours I was disconnected entirely. A day passed and I was able to reconnect, but at noticeably slower internet speed. This lasted for about a day until, once again, it disconnected entirely this evening. Any attempt to reconnect is met with, "Can't connect to network".
I use start 8 on both my windows 8.1 desktop and my tablet. My internet speeds were okay, but I wanted more. Based on the speed tests that I ran, it appeared to me that I was on Comcast's performance starter getting download speeds of 7.37mbps and uploads of 15.65. So I called Comcast to see about an upgrade. The tech that I spoke with stated that I already had the faster that they offer. He asked me how many icons did I have near the start button, I had 5, he told me to unpin them from the taskbar and my speeds went to DL - 57.48, the upload stayed pretty much the same 15.64.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I ran speed test with several different website and they all said my download speed is between 5 Mbps and 8 Mbps :
However when i actually download something my download speed stay at 1 Mbps or when i watch videos ( youtube) I don't have this problem with my phone !
I haven't noticed this as an issue until some recent Windows 8 auto updates (last 2 months, is generous estimate). "Save as..." take about 20-30 seconds, for 2 3rd-party medium weight word processors, to display the folder window where your want to save. It looks like it takes the computer a while to "round up" all the directory info to display it in the "save as..." window.
I did read here & elsewhere on changing the general option in the properties of a folder. I don't think that worked. I did also read (here?) about disconnecting the networked folders. I did do that, rebooted. There was no speedup. But then I remapped them all, and now MS-branded apps like wordpad & word/excel, do show the "save as..." window within a second or 2, as before. (Note: I do clean up the reg daily).
How to boost the read/ write speed of my Hard Disk Drive. Someone told me about some innovation in Windows 8 such as Superfetch, Prefetch, Ready Boost, etc - something that is supposedly utilizing the idle capacity of your RAM/ SSD to boost the read/ write speed in the Hard Disk Drive.
Currently, my laptop is setup as follows;
120GB C Drive: running on SSD - has the Windows 8 and all apps installed in it,
500GB D Drive: has all the Libraries folders installed in it.
RAM = 4GB. PLanning to increase it by an additional 4GB.
Hence, how can i use the SSD or RAM to improve on the Hard Disk read/ write speed? Currently, my Intel SSD toolbox is showing as follows:
Question is how do we know if Superfetch / Prefetch is enabled based on the printscreen shown above? It just show that the feature is optimised.
By the way, can we transfer the following folders from C Drive to D Drive? Will it affect the computer performance?
For some reasons, unknown by me, i try to access multiplayer mode on my gaming apps that allows online access will not connect to the internet. It tells me that i am not connected to the internet when i am clearly connected to it. My internet is through router and it works fine; i can access my browser just surfing the web. Its just this specific thing that i desire to fix badly.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI offten play game online, and my network is not fast. So when I playing game, it's usually "lag". I think it is because the modern apps (mail, people, weather...) and other background services auto connect to internet. I can stop or turn off these background services, but I don't know how to turn off or prevent modern apps do that to improve the network speed.

I rarely use Win 8 apps, and run in desktop mode almost exclusively. Was having issues and was suggested I advance the OS to 8.1. That requires Store app. Store app gives a very generic "unable to connect" message with no options. I've done some research here and tried various things to no avail:
-refresh the store app
-a few cmd things
-restart
-turned off McAfee AND windows firewall
Some suggest doing some type of system restore which claims to wipe out all desktop system apps. That seems quite extreme for a program/connectivity issue.
I'm uploading the cmd details as graphics below.
I've seriously been searching everywhere on how to increase my dedicated video ram for Battlefield bad company 2 ( I have 32 but need 256) And i can't find it anywhere???? i have 4 GB of ram, i tried the advance restart, nothing in there. Is this even a option?

I'm planning on trading laptops. I do audio production and gaming. I have an i3 and the cpu is clocked at 2.4 ghz and he has an i5 clocked at 1.8. How much of a difference will this impact performance? For better or worse?
I am curious because I had a desktop a while back and it had a Core 2 Duo @ 2.8 and I went to this i3 @2.4 laptop and the cpu sucks in comparison to the desktop...I was originally thinking the i3 would be a increase since it was newer architecture.
I would still think on the graphics side its definitely an upgrade because the i3 uses Intel HD Graphics and it sucks...it doesnt even use opengl. The other uses a Nvidia GeForce GT 740M.
I'm working with an HP ElitePad, a 10" Win 8 tablet with no mouse/keyboard. One of the pieces of software I'm working with is only accessable via right-clicking (press and hold) its icon in the taskbar and selecting to launch it.
The issue I'm having is that the icons are very small and I need to get this working for an end user who would endlessly be missing it.
How to increase the size of the icons? All I can find so far is the checkmark in the options to make them smaller.
I am just finding old instructions for previous versions of Windows, no longer working.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently noticed this strange behavior in my pc. When I restart my computer, cpu usage will stay around 20%, and fluctuate the usage of my processes (system host and firefox being the big hitters) to maintain this general figure. Upon putting my computer to sleep and reawakening, the symptoms are the same, except the usage hovers around 40%. This will continue until usage hovers around 99-100%.
I also just noticed that your TSG SysInfo (included below) says i have windows defender disabled, but I have been under the assumption that it is enabled. It has been since i uninstalled AVG as this was once a heavy hitter in my processes and I thought a cause to some of this.
Before this I didn't think this was a virus, because I've run multiple malware searches including malwarebytes in and outside of safemode but now I'm not so sure.
Also most likely related, my pc takes (literal) hours to shut down.

(1) How to increase the font size of Windows Explorer?
(2) Is it possible to put in folder, file name in the TaskBar? I can pin applications like Ms Word, Power point but not any specific file or folder which I am using.
(3) The time in the task bar is showing as 23:34.How can I make it to 11:34?
(4) Like Windows XP is it possible to bring in a kind of a "Show Desktop" in the task bar so that I can quickly move into the Desktop from a current window.
i have windows 8.1 and i have brightness issue it is constant it is not increasing as well as not decreasing.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI thought the Win 8 File History backup feature looked like a good idea so I bought a 1TB external hard drive to use solely for backup. I was thinking that I would be able to store a massive history of backups on it but I can only set the size of the offline cache to a maximum of 20%. Why is it limited to such a small amount of space? Why not 80% or 100%? Is there a registry setting to increase this?
It seems to be a strange arbitrary thing to set it to such a small amount of space if you want to use a drive dedicated for the purpose.
Whenever I increase the volume the sound is really horrible, like from cheap $3 speakers. The sound is NOT clear at all. I tested the same files (mp3, FLAC) on another device and it is just great.
Here's my setup:

I have just put an additional 8gb of ram into my machine and am now sitting at 16gb ram but i did not notice any difference on my graphics during games. i have the AMD a6-5200 APU processor which has the integrated radeon hd 8400 graphics.
I'm wondering if there are any settings adjustments i can do to make the graphics card run faster. I mean i have 16gb of ram, shouldnt that be a lot of shared ram for the graphics card?
