Aug 27, 2014I bought i new TOSHIBA Satellite C55D - A - 15H it came with windows 8.1 but I didn't liked it so I installed Windows 7 Ultimate and now i'm getting slow wireless and Ethernet speeds. I tried to reinstall drivers and so on. Btw other computers are getting much more Internet speed than i'm getting.

Jan 19, 2014I just got a new laptop (Asus s400ca) and I've been having wireless connection issues from the start. It originally had windows 8.0. I thought it would change when I went to 8.1. It hasn't. I have tried to reinstall the drivers. I've done several commands that I have seen around different forums. Today was the first time I have been able to access my wireless, however the speed is extremely slow. I went to speedtest.net to see what my average ping was and it was 2238 and my download speed was .17 mps and my upload speed was .13. I compared with wifes computer and hers is running a download speed of 17.6

New HP Pavilion 14 Touch w/ Windows 8.1. (purchased directly from HP)
Intel Core i5 1.7GHz/2.4GHz, 64-bit
Broadcom 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi adapter
Wireless Router: Arris TG862G Router.
My laptop was able to connect to my home router in the initial setup of the computer, but within about 1-2 hours I was disconnected entirely. A day passed and I was able to reconnect, but at noticeably slower internet speed. This lasted for about a day until, once again, it disconnected entirely this evening. Any attempt to reconnect is met with, "Can't connect to network".

Jan 1, 2013why it is that I have trouble browsing in high speed despite the fact that the wireless adapter receives data at 1 Mbps minimum? I haven't been able to watch videos on Youtube, read the news etc because the browser takes ages to load the full page. I checked which applications are connected and they haven't exchanged much data as you can see below:

May 1, 2014I have suddenly had a strange problem occur. Everytime I restart my Windows 8.1 desktop my internet connection speed drops from it's normal 50Meg to around 3Meg when running any speedtest programme. The only way to cure this is to uninstall & re-install my network adapters through device manager. All is ok then until my next reboot & then it all happens again. It is the same on both the Ethernet connection & the wireless adapter. I have tried re-installing drivers etc to no avail. Something strange about my network setup. I have also ran various virus scans but nothing showed up.
This suddenly started last Saturday & I cannot see what could of caused it, haven't installed any new programmes or anything.
All my other devices are ok including a Windows 8.1 laptop.

Sep 13, 2013So I just installed Windows 8 on my gaming rig. I gotta say, after being skeptical of this whole OS for a while, installing it fresh and trying it out shows just how useful (and FAST) it can be.
The only thing about Windows 8 that isn't fast is my ethernet adapter. When connected, downloads are slow, pages take long to respond, videos are constantly choppy and buffering, etc. Looking at the ethernet connection in Task manager, it looks like the connection is being speed capped at 1.0 Mbps. The graph of the speed fluctuates up and down in the low range, but hits a wall at 1.0 mbps.
This wasn't the case when I had Win 7- I could easily pull 80 Mbps on speedtest.net (Chattanooga fibre optic internet FTW). My WiFi adapter in Win 8 also does not have this problem, but I want to use the wired connection because the campus wi-fi is unreliable. I have already updated the LAN drivers, trying both the Windows- suggested driver and the one from the manufacturer website. No difference. How I can start installing my steam games and not have it take 5 years?

Jun 4, 2013my wifi seems very slow under Windows 8 and is acting like its been "capped" by something.
When running Windows 7, I was getting approx 60MB actually download rate off of my apparent 120MB Virgin Media service, now that I am on Windows 8 it appears to be running at 20MB.
The drivers have been updated to the one that was on the manufacturers website, before the update was applied my download was capped at 1MB.
Does something need changing / tweaking on Windows 8 to make it more friendly to high speed broadband?

Feb 13, 2013I dual boot with win 7 and win 8. I have faster download speed when i'm in win 7 than when i'm in win 8. Obviously my router wireless settings is the same for both OS. I Googled this and it seems that it's a problem for a lot of users.If it's a question of updating drivers, my laptop is an Acer and i checked their website and they only have drivers for win 7. Could i change win 8 drivers with the win 7 one? Would that work? Are there settings in win 8 that i should check? I have a 6mbps connection and when i check my connection speed at Speedtest.Net i get about 5.25 mbps when i'm in win 7, but i get about 1.65 mbps when i'm in win 8. What is causing such a big difference in speed?

I use a DGN 1000 , its around 2 years old .I have talked to my ISP (Talk Talk UK) and they tell me they do not support my router. Talked to Netgear via tech support as well and my settings seem to be correct with the newest firmware update.

Dec 26, 2013I use start 8 on both my windows 8.1 desktop and my tablet. My internet speeds were okay, but I wanted more. Based on the speed tests that I ran, it appeared to me that I was on Comcast's performance starter getting download speeds of 7.37mbps and uploads of 15.65. So I called Comcast to see about an upgrade. The tech that I spoke with stated that I already had the faster that they offer. He asked me how many icons did I have near the start button, I had 5, he told me to unpin them from the taskbar and my speeds went to DL - 57.48, the upload stayed pretty much the same 15.64.

Jun 23, 2014I am using Windows 8.1 and all the computers in the network have good speed but only one PC has internet issues.
I even reinstalled Windows but that didn't solve my issue.
I even reset the router, upgraded its firmware but all in vain.
If I disable the network adapter and enable it then the internet works for like five minutes but then it stops working again. I even changed the wire connecting the PC to the router.
I have also disabled the firewall.

Dec 7, 2013I am using a Windows 8 pro pc connected to the internet wireless. My modem is a 802.11g and my speed should be 8 mb down 1 mb up. However, on the PC I am only getting 1.2mb down, 0.5 mb up on speedtest. When I open a W7 HP laptop, I do get about 8 mb down as stated. Weirdly it is only affecting my pc. I have run the test continuously between the PC and the laptop and the laptop perform better. Tried IE and FF, the speed is slow. My PC specs should be good enough for a fast connection. No folding or torrent or whatever is running in the background, yet the pc is slow. The ping time is faster than the laptop at 42 ms.

Sep 15, 2014I have a brand new Windows 8 Dell Inspirion laptop, and it has a horrible internet connection. I have not downloaded any new programs and I don't visit shady websites so I don't think it's a virus. Sometimes the internet is just moderately slow, and sometimes it just completely won't move, I will type in a web address and it will "think" about loading the page for 20 minutes before finally telling me it can't.
The problem is not with my wifi, I have another laptop that runs Windows 7 and have no issues with that one, or any other device on the network. It's just the windows 8 laptop.
I have Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160.
I tried updating the driver, but it tells me the driver is already up to date.

However when i actually download something my download speed stay at 1 Mbps or when i watch videos ( youtube) I don't have this problem with my phone !

Jul 17, 2014I have a 20mbps upload with my ISP and I'm getting around 18.5 consistently. I've started using Zoolz for backing up and I have been assured it does not throttle the bandwidth. It reports it is uploading at around 15-16mbps which would be absolutely fine but Task Manager and NetSpeedMonitor show the upload speed as considerably lower.
I've attached a screenshot showing the difference but I was wondering if Task manager and NetSpeedMonitor could be wrong at all? It seemed quite coincidental that the speed reported by Zoolz was roughly what I would expect. Is there any sort of traffic that wouldn't show with Task Manager?

I know a far bit about networks set my own up using servers and stuff in my basement and even tried a store bought router in case it was somehow my ddwrt router which it wasn't.
I have a new laptop ASUS ROG 17" G series its running 8.1
The source server has 6 147gb 15,000rpm sas drives in a raid dual gigabit network cables running esxi and ubuntu server with dual gigabit network cables, extremely fast speeds.
Everything is up to date on the laptop as far as I can tell I updated all drivers the gigabit network is using a Qualcomm Atheros driver from 7-16-2013 version 2.1.0.21 signed by MS its not a "genetic driver" or whatever sometimes shows up under device manager.
I have another normal desktop running 8.1 as well and it has no problems with network transfer speeds they exceed the drives capability to write to in the target drive from the server raid as does pretty much everything else I have, the server can serve files faster than anything can take them.
But the laptop seems to be capped at exactly 10MB/s according to teracopy (windows explorer transfer shows 11.8MB/s but I suspect its wrong its probably 10 thats what my router clams its going at not 11.8) and the graph is a steady line as if its capped like that.
I can transfer from an external usb 2.0 drive faster than this network? - I have tried wired and wifi the speed is the exact same.

Aug 7, 2014I have a strange problem in that my network speed to my laptop appears to be halved. I have a 152Mb/s service which comes through on my xbox one being on a gigabit network. My laptop is limited to 100Mb/s due to the speed of the network card.
The speed I obtain however, is ~40Mb/s through normal use, via ethernet cable or wireless. But, when I use safe mode with networking, the speed becomes ~90Mb/s as I would expect.
I have gone into Safe Mode and taken pictures of the then currently running processes and tasks. I tried comparing to the processes running on a regular use and decided to end specific tasks that didn't match. However, I was unable to solve the problem and determine which program (if it is one) that is causing this slow down.

Jan 27, 2014Since yesterday the internet began to act unsoundly (through WiFi). As in I never had this problem before. There were periods where it was fast enough to play some online games, watch Youtube no problem, and then it would shut off randomly. So since yesterday I have been restarting the modem with only very short term resolutions to the issue.
I accessed the modem through my web browser and it says the connection is always working fine. Despite that, I called my ISP and they claimed there was an issue, and forwarded it to Deutsche Telekom. Since then I did some experimenting and plugged my computer into the modem with the ethernet cable.
Boom. No problem whatsoever. It's been top speed and reliable.
I downloaded and installed updates for Windows today. There are 18 optional ones that I did not download yet, but I did download and install the important ones no problem. I checked the network adapters and they all state "The best driver for your software is already installed."

Aug 23, 2013I recently brought the netgear wireless router and i connect it to the my wired network and after i complete successfully about the settings of netgear and after that i check the internet speed at speedtest it shows almost 2mbps download speed and 1.5 mbps upload speed but when i put the a file to download the speed only changes in between 60 - 70 kbps actually it gives 200 to 250 kbps but it doesn't.....i really tired my best get normal speed but i didn't got that....

Jul 31, 2014I have a 600Kbits per sc connection, cable modem so my downloading speed is around 60-70 kbytes/s same in utorrent and in browser downloads, i use windows 8.1 pro, 64 bits, recently my google chrome was turning slow and firefox too, i dunno if my pc was infected by viruses. i scanned wit havast and bitdefender free versions and found nothing.and yesterday when i tried to download a pdf file, i dunno why nut download speed was horrible, started with 24 and then it was like 3-4 kbytes/s and it even failed later.
I thought it was a connection problem so i restarted my connection, browsing was fine everything except downloading seemed okay.
I tried doing the same things with different browsers like firefox or internet explorer but the problem was same.
When i tried utorrent, it was perfectly normal, it gave the usual download speed of 60-70 kbytes/s so it seems the problem was onl in downloading with browsers and no problem with browsing and utorrent. I hard resetted my pc and reinstalled fresh copy of win 8.1 but again twas the same.did it 3 times already but no change. I dunno if it is a virus or something but i am exhausted, ( before formatting my pc , i backed up my files in an external hdd so it may be possible that if there is a virus involved then it may have came back due to my external hdd)
I checked Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test and there too, showed 0.56 mbps , so it was normal there too

CPU --> Intel(R) Core i5 3230M 2,6 - 3,2 ghz
GPU --> Intel HD 4000 and nVidia GeForce GT740M 2GB (it switches how it needs)
RAM --> 4 GB DDR3 and 1 600 MHz (1,6 GHz)

I have installed windows like 2 days ago.
Now my questions:
1. Is it normal, when I just boot Windows, right after iccons apear, when I click to open some application, for example internet browser (using chrome) it takes long time? Like 6 seconds? But if I after windows boot wait 10 sec, then its working normally?
2. When I was playing some new games, actually BF4 and I minimized game, the Windows was responding horibly? Opening "My Computer" takes like 8 secs, opening browser takes even more..

(b) new desktop in the office with fairly old Broadcom PCI 802.11g adapter
(c) media box hooked up to TV hard wired to router
I recently mapped a drive on system A so that it could be shared with system B (they are side by side). Unfortunately, upon trying to transfer files the speeds are terrible! I am only getting between 500kb/s and 1mb/s.Is this due to my relatively old wireless G adapter?

Meanwhile most window tiles in the start menu have Internet access . For example I have the application "MegaTube" and that application has access to the Internet. Feb 12, 2014After spending a lot of time isolating the specific update that was giving me the extremely slow reboot time, (from 5 seconds to 150 seconds after update) I was able to determine that Windows optional update -Qualcomm Atheroos Communication - Bluetooth Controller - Qualcomm Atheros AR3012 Bluetooth 4.0 + HS was the cause of the lag.
Any solution to the lag. from 5 seconds to nearly 3 minutes is a substantial lag in restarting the computer.
The computer is a MSI GS70 229US.
