Gaming :: (2.4 Ghz I3) To (1.8 Ghz I5) Increase Or Decrease In Performance?
Feb 6, 2014
I'm planning on trading laptops. I do audio production and gaming. I have an i3 and the cpu is clocked at 2.4 ghz and he has an i5 clocked at 1.8. How much of a difference will this impact performance? For better or worse?
I am curious because I had a desktop a while back and it had a Core 2 Duo @ 2.8 and I went to this i3 @2.4 laptop and the cpu sucks in comparison to the desktop...I was originally thinking the i3 would be a increase since it was newer architecture.
I would still think on the graphics side its definitely an upgrade because the i3 uses Intel HD Graphics and it sucks...it doesnt even use opengl. The other uses a Nvidia GeForce GT 740M.
I have an asus laptop and i have a problem with increase and decreasing level of brightness.
my operating system is windows 8.1 and i download and installed latest version of driver that is compatible with my OS. when i early installed windows, i installed drivers and don't have problem with it. but now after months suddenly it happened to me.
i can see OSD that changing brightness, but i don't actually see any change
I have just put an additional 8gb of ram into my machine and am now sitting at 16gb ram but i did not notice any difference on my graphics during games. i have the AMD a6-5200 APU processor which has the integrated radeon hd 8400 graphics.
I'm wondering if there are any settings adjustments i can do to make the graphics card run faster. I mean i have 16gb of ram, shouldnt that be a lot of shared ram for the graphics card?
I recently updated my laptop from Windows 8 to 8.1. Before updating, I was able to play all of my games just fine, particularly Skyrim, on high or even max settings. After updating though, the first time I loaded a save game it took nearly between 5-10 minutes to load (compared to normal 1 at most). After that they are better, but still much slower than they used to be, and I can also barely even run Skyrim at the lowest possible graphics settings. I know that my computer has the capability to handle higher settings. Did the update change some setting in performance that I am not aware of?

I didn't identify where the shit had happened in my pc.
Note : I am a developer and also little gamer. I use Eclipse SDK, Android SDK, Linux. I am Developing android on system since 4 months. Will this is the cause ?
I am having some problems with 3 years old PC. Only while playing games (Civ 5 - Heroes & Generals - Rise of nations) I suffer from freeze/crashes, PC doesn't show a BSOD, the mouse pointer works normally it doesn't freeze (until I try to alt+tab or alt+ctrl+del), and from my speakers I can hear looping sounds.
The only thing I can do is a hard reboot. I try reinstalling windows, and the problem still exists. My BIOS, drivers* and OS are update, I perform a memtest for 6 hours and show no errors, I can run prime95 + kombustor and everything is fine, no temps problems, GPU never go over 68c and CPU at 58c, and no crashes.
DSIM commands show no errors neither.
*I tried latest NVIDIA drivers, and old ones, im actually using 334.89 version, and the problem persist.
It's been happening for awhile now since windows 7 through to windows 8 and i'm not sure why but it usually happens when i play games even with lowest settings, whenever it freezes it makes me have to force shut down manually.

I've seriously been searching everywhere on how to increase my dedicated video ram for Battlefield bad company 2 ( I have 32 but need 256) And i can't find it anywhere???? i have 4 GB of ram, i tried the advance restart, nothing in there. Is this even a option?
I'm working with an HP ElitePad, a 10" Win 8 tablet with no mouse/keyboard. One of the pieces of software I'm working with is only accessable via right-clicking (press and hold) its icon in the taskbar and selecting to launch it.
The issue I'm having is that the icons are very small and I need to get this working for an end user who would endlessly be missing it.
How to increase the size of the icons? All I can find so far is the checkmark in the options to make them smaller.
I recently noticed this strange behavior in my pc. When I restart my computer, cpu usage will stay around 20%, and fluctuate the usage of my processes (system host and firefox being the big hitters) to maintain this general figure. Upon putting my computer to sleep and reawakening, the symptoms are the same, except the usage hovers around 40%. This will continue until usage hovers around 99-100%.
I also just noticed that your TSG SysInfo (included below) says i have windows defender disabled, but I have been under the assumption that it is enabled. It has been since i uninstalled AVG as this was once a heavy hitter in my processes and I thought a cause to some of this.
Before this I didn't think this was a virus, because I've run multiple malware searches including malwarebytes in and outside of safemode but now I'm not so sure.
Also most likely related, my pc takes (literal) hours to shut down.

(1) How to increase the font size of Windows Explorer? (2) Is it possible to put in folder, file name in the TaskBar? I can pin applications like Ms Word, Power point but not any specific file or folder which I am using. (3) The time in the task bar is showing as 23:34.How can I make it to 11:34? (4) Like Windows XP is it possible to bring in a kind of a "Show Desktop" in the task bar so that I can quickly move into the Desktop from a current window.
I have a question regarding PC gaming, since I realy dont know as much as I would like to.
My question is what role does my CPU play in gaming? Is it a big thing? I always thought that having a strong, powerful graphics card was more important that a powerful CPU.
Is there a particular thing that the CPU does in PC gaming that makes having a strong one essential?
Okay, this is the second time with a different game this is happening, at very specific points in the game, My Laptop's screen blacks out and goes off, the computer stays on with lights and stuff but the screen just stays off like when you put off a pc but the fans keep running, I then have to forcefully power my pc off to put off the entire system.
I don't think this has anything to do with my Laptop's temperature as I've just had the vents and heat sinks ventilated recently, also cause the laptop goes off at just one scene in a particular mission in both games, Assassins Creed and Far Cry 3.
I don't think its my PC's specs either cause I went through the requirements of these games before getting them. I've not been able to go past the stages in the game where my PC goes off.
My Laptop's specs: HP Envy M6-1105DX : AMD A10-4600M 2.3GHz, 6GB RAM, Windows 8, 64-bit.
I thought the Win 8 File History backup feature looked like a good idea so I bought a 1TB external hard drive to use solely for backup. I was thinking that I would be able to store a massive history of backups on it but I can only set the size of the offline cache to a maximum of 20%. Why is it limited to such a small amount of space? Why not 80% or 100%? Is there a registry setting to increase this?
It seems to be a strange arbitrary thing to set it to such a small amount of space if you want to use a drive dedicated for the purpose.
Whenever I increase the volume the sound is really horrible, like from cheap $3 speakers. The sound is NOT clear at all. I tested the same files (mp3, FLAC) on another device and it is just great.
Here's my setup:
OS: Windows 8 - all updates
Soundcard: Asus Xonar D1 interne PCI Soundkarte 7.1, Digital Out, Dolby Technik, Eax, 192kHz 24bit, Low Profile - newest driver
Mainboard: Intel DP55WG - onboard sound disabled in BIOS
I was wondering is there any way to increase the data transfer rate on SATA drives. My MB has SATA 3 and I have a Samsung HD 154UI drive on SATA /300 where I have Windows 8 x64 installed. The performance under Windows is 5.9. This is the lowest on the list. CPU 7.4, Memory 7.4, Graphics 7.9, Gaming graphics 7.9, Hard disk 5.9...Is there a way to get it higher without replacing the drive. The drive is new (only 3 months old) I have two of these drives and two Seagate drives that are 2 tera which are 1 year old.
I can't seem to find where you can increase the size of the fonts used within the tiles on the start menu in 8.1. Is it possible to do, and if so, where would I do it at?
As of late , after awaking from sleep mode, the Action Center is requesting me to re-enter my password. I am clueless as to why this is happening.
The only change is that I cancelled my MS Office 365 [P6] subscription.
Maybe the unlinking? of [original1@original1.onmicrosoft.com] from [original1@live.com] is causing this behavior. Dunno?
I had used the on microsoft as my Windows 8 login account and had a few problems with that.
So I deleted that 'user' and created a new one with the .live email.
But that was more than a year ago. It's not the end of the world or anything, just a bit annoying and worrisome that it may be a 'bogus' pop-up in Action Center.
I have updated from Excel 2003 / XP to Excel 2013 / Windows 8 Enterp 64 bit. The new Excel appears to take longer just to move from 1 cell to the next, even on a blank workbook
I have a Mac Pro, using Parallels 8, and the XP / Excel 2003 works faster, both virtual machines are on the same computer: The Mac is a Dual Quad Core, at 667 MH speed.
I have assigned 2 CPU's to the Wind. 8 virtual machine, ( and just 1 in XP). I'm testing these one at a time.
Why ? Is Windows 8 slower. Is parallels Windows 8 slower due to their interface? Are there settings that could fix this?
I am trying to analyse boot performance using this tool on 8.1 Pro.
Windows Performance Analyzer
I have already updated to the latest version of ADK but after rebooting it fails. I have Windows 6.3.9600 Build 9600 and Performance Recorder version 6.3.9600.16384(winblue_rtm.130821-1623) which I downloaded yesterday from MS.
Can run this on 8.1 or do I have some incorrect version?
Dual boot, can see any performance difference between 2 OS. I dual boot on my laptop with Win 7 and Win 8 ,both 64 bits and using the latest version of VLC player on both of them i can see that the video playback is smoother on Win 7 than in Win 8 for the same video file. With Windows Media player it`s the same as well with Media player classic. Any other issues between the 2 OS ?
I have updated to windows 8.1 and recently i have having a lot of problems with how slowly my computer is running. May i say I have spent a lot and I mean a lot of time trying to fix this problem and I know it has nothing to do with disk space, viruses or drivers. This has been messing with my network adapter and has been giving me gateway accessibility problems even though there is nothing wrong with my connection proof being that if I diagnose the problem in my adapter it resets the adapter just to have the same problem later until reset it again and the connection and all my devices is fine.
This problem includes a momentary cursor pause at random times that only effects my trackpad if i plug a mouse in it works while my track pad is non functional, this can last from anywhere from usually 2-10 minutes until my trackpad becomes functional again. im not even getting "not responding" messages when it when it freezes at random times, i just have to wait until i hear that chime that sound like it comes from an information box then everything goes back to slow again and barely functional.
This problem includes playing media, being that when i play media it takes anywhere from 2-15 minutes before it starts playing, this media can be from playing music and videos on my hard drive to videos on youtube. When I start up my computer it works fine for a bit like 5-10 minutes then starts being slow again with sending information to execute actions (mainly media actions), i even get a lot of loading issues on skype. Even more to my conviction that its the operating system causing the problem is the fact i had my computer working normally for a week at random just with the gateway connectivity but all files I executed in the times quickly like they were supposed then with another boot sometime later it went back to being slow again.
I have Asus N550LF, always on boot or when i unplug the charger power management set to high performance which is causing the battery life to decrease ( wear level 7%), since i found out H.P. causes this i always set it to Balanced but its annoying to do it every time i boot up, any way to set it to default?
