Automatically Cycle Through ALT-TAB At Specific Intervals?
Mar 25, 2014
So, i got me some DVR based programs used to monitor multiple locations on the same tv.
Is there any soft out there that can do this, cycle through alt-tab at specific time intervals?
I have found one, but i can only set it to cycle at the same interval for all windows, i want to spend 10 minutes on the first window and just 1 on the second.
Basically my PC has always (last few years) randomly just shut down after I boot it up or freeze, but after the initial few resets it would be fine until I turned it off. Today it did it's usual of freezing up (at login) I held down the power button then waited then turned it back on, but instead of turning on it just kept a black screen and kept whirring in a cycle. Long (fan) brrrrrrrrrrr fade down then shorter one then back to long. I've tried turning it off at the plug leaving it and then trying again but no luck.Specs.
A friend said to remove the cmos battery and turn on off then put back but still no luck
I will try to post a dump file the next chance I have in getting into safe mode. I have an Asus CM6870-CA010S with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 card. It has been running like a dream since I got it in April, then I performed the 8.1 update, and innocently updated the drivers. Bad plan. For the past week I've fallen into the labyrinth of uninstalling the card, subsequent iterations of the drivers, clearing registries, performed the "Refresh," all after reading the forums here, on Nvidia's boards, anywhere I can get logical info.
I finally found what I thought was the perfect recipe, uninstalling totally in safe mode, deleting the folders orphaned from uninstalls, cleaning the registry, disabling Window's automatic downloads for drivers and hardware... etc. I had solid uptime for an hour, and I'm not a gamer, and hadn't yet tested my main objectives- Photoshop and Premiere. But HD video was great, and I finally thought I had it licked. Then, black screen. I have no BSODs. The system seems to shut down so fast that it doesn't have time to make dump files, and WhoCrashed.exe keeps pointing to nvlddmkm.sys as the culprit when a dump is made, with either pagefile or IRQL not less or equal errors. I'm so done.
After trying virtually every solid recommendation I can find, I'm about to throw in the towel and either get a whole other brand of graphics card, or take it to the super expensive judgmental hipster repair shop. This post is my last hope, and I'll try to get a dump file the next chance it gives me enough uptime to collect one- and getting into Safe Mode with F8 is seemingly very random.
Is there a way to create a shortcut to invoke the Switch User to a specific account? What I mean by this: Lets say you 2 users, A and B. The computer starts up and logs into A. Clicking on the account picture of A on the Start screen gives you the option to switch to B. When that is clicked, A is put in the background (not logged of) and B is logged in. Is there a way to automate that process?
Suddenly every time i try to browse Downloads folder, explorer.exe freeze and stuck in not responding. Task manager shows 50% in cpu, and memory usage just keep getting bigger.
I have tried booting into safe mode, and i could browse the same folder. But after i get out from that folder and try to open it again, it freezes again.
I have tried cccleaner, but no luck there. I am using windows 8 pro x64 with 8gb of ram.
It happened randomly a few times in the past, but not every time like now. Didn't installed anything new for few days. And the constant freeze started today.
When I had Windows 7 I scheduled a task for my laptop to shutdown at 3 a.m. When I would log in the next morning, Chrome would give me the "restore" option so I didn't lose the browser tabs I had been using the night before. Skype would still be logged into, and another program I use nightly, would be logged out, but still on my taskbar.
Now I have Windows 8 and when I used the task scheduler exactly as it had been in Windows 7, everything is gone. I don't get the restore tabs option for Chrome, Skype is completely logged out of, and the other program is shutdown and not in the task bar.
I want to find a way to get it to work as it did in Windows 7. I thought maybe just putting it into hibernation would be the answer, but I can't find clear instructions on how to do this. I tried changing the -s parameter to -h and removing the -f parameter, but this morning when I opened the lid it was as if the computer had just stayed on completely and not gone into hibernation.
I would like to stop a specific update from installing, but am having trouble doing that. I can stop all updates from being downloaded by making a registry alteration, but this keeps me from downloading any updates.
Is there a way to make a shortcut to open or go to a specific item in the CP? I'd like to be able to do this with a few of my most-used, such as Color and Appearance, for changing taskbar and windows borders colors. I have a macro program that will do it, just wondered if there were direct links to the various items in the CP.
In a Windows 8 PC, User account is "Standard" and Administrator account is different, in which how can I exclude some application which is from asking administrator password to execute?
My situation is specially for application updates such as java and/or adobe reader. Each time, when there is an update, it is asking administrator password to run the same.
Looking to add a specific tag/label based functionality to my computer.
I have tons and tons of programs, photos, videos, documents, and other files on my Windows 8 computer, and I need a way to organize and search/filter them that meets some very specific criteria. Unfortunately, as I am sure that most are aware of these days, organization by folder is extremely llimited.
For example, let's say that I have a bunch of pictures. I have one of me and my brother celebrating his birthday. I may want to file that picture by "family", "birthday", and "Severin" - so that if I search on any of those, I can find it. Another picture may be a family cookout, maybe I want to file it by "family" and "summer 2013".
The way Google uses labels in Gmail would seem an ideal system, if something like that could be added. Here are some other criteria that my ideal system would use:
-It would integrate itself into the operating system, so that when browsing I can access, see, and modify the tag of the files in the folder I am in without havening to launch a separate application. Access via right-click would be a plus.
-It would be location independent - once I have tagged/labelled a file, I could then move that file from one location on my hard drive to another, and still pull it easily via tag/label searching without (of course) needing to know or specify where it is.
-It would have to work with all file types. For example, even though I know Windows 8 have built in support for metadata tags, some video file types do not support it, and therefore Windows 8 cannot add tags to those files. Whatever the solution I wind up with, it must work on ALL files I care to tag.
-Multi-tagging is also a critical feature - so I can select a group of files and tag them all at once, either to add, modify, or remove a tag, without of course altering any pre-existing tags other than the intended.
-A bonus would be if it was aesthetically compatible with Windows 7/8, both in its look and feel and in it's UI.
-Finally, there would have to be a way for it to work across the network - I store all my files in a desktop Windows 8 Computer, but access the files from that computer, or from my laptop, or my media center, or my wife's computer. I would need to be able to do both searching and tagging from any computer with network access to the main one, even if I have to install the same software or plugins on each system individually.
This is an odd little problem, but I can't access DeviantArt on my HP Laptop.
A little history: I bought the laptop new. It had Windows 8 64 bit installed, and I immediately upgraded to 8.1, and at that time, I remember browsing the site looking for desktop wallpaper. Since then I upgraded with the Spring update, and any other update Windows gives me, so the laptop is up to date. I use FireFox (up to date) as a browser, and when I recently tried to access the site, I got a 'Connection has timed out' screen. I opened IE, and got a 'The operation timed out' screen.
Things I have tried:
ISP / Router - The laptop I'm having the trouble with is wireless. Using an older desktop (XP 32 bit SP3 as up to date as it will ever get) that is hardwired into the router, I have no problems accessing the site. Using my cell phone on the same WiFi (Android OS with Chrome browser), I'm also able to access it. Using an online proxy/anonymizer, I was able to get the site site to on the laptop.
HOSTS file - Since the 'Connection has timed out' is the same one I get from an ad page the HOSTS file has blocked, I removed it and replaced it with a blank one. No effect on either browser. I should also note that this is the exact same HOSTS file and FireFox version I'm using on the XP machine without issue.
Anti-Virus - I use Avast's free version, also up to date. I turned it off, again with no effect, and, again, it's the same that's running on the XP.
DNS - I used the 'ipconfig /flushdns' to no effect. I even tried to use DeviantArt's IP address (199.15.160.100), again, nothing.
I ran a scan with my AV, MalwareBytes, and Kaspersky's TDSSKiller with no results on any of them. All other websites that I normally go to are working fine.
There's a case where aero peek doesn't work properly with windows like it should. If a window is completely hidden behind another window, using aero peek doesn't show the outline of the hidden window, just the outline of the window in front. Is this behavior intended? Am I just late in noticing it?
Also, somewhat related, but when I click the corner to show desktop and then click it again, the windows are brought up in the wrong order.
How to specify which users can shutdown the computer from registry.
Using the local group policy this setting would be: Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Settings -> User Rights -> Shutdown the Computer
By default Administrators, Backup Operators and Users. The problem is that I need to change this settings form a script and I don't know where to look for it in the registry. I was thinking of using the reg add command in the script but I don't know what to change.
I tryed to use a program called regshot to analyse change to registry, so I made the change on Group policy and then looked at the changes but came to no conclusion.
How can I turn off and then turn on internet connection at specific times with task scheduler? I need this because I want to use my internet bonus quota from my internet provider from 01:00 untill 06:59 AM. to use this bonus I have to disconnect from the internet at 01:00 AM and then reconnect again. I am using a tplink modem router MR 3420.
i recently lost a computer(mother board failure)but the hard drive is in tact and i can access with a SATA to usb device. have another computer up and running win 8. i am wondering how i find and transfer user specific data for instance i have a typing tutor program my wife and i both use we have different user names and have progressed differently. once i reload applications what do i need to move from the old hard drive to restore those applications to the earlier state with all user data, id, preferences, application progress etc.is this data located in each applications folder or stored in separate locations throughout win 8
Use the Windows 8 standard Photo App. There is a slideshow inside, your photos will be displayed randomly. Can you choose a specific order to play the pictures in the slideshow? How?
The thing is, i open java files with Eclipse by default. Today i wanted to take some notes about Java the programming language which include text and code. I used Notepad++, and with it you can save the file as a wide variety of types, among them java file. I chose this, but since they are associated with eclipse, it makes opening them with Notepad++ tedious. I want to ask if there is a way to set the default program for some java files Notepad++ and leave Eclipse for the rest? This would be a useful feature for few other types too.
All the new nvidia graphics drivers pass 314.22 has a well-documented crashing problem on certain models which I'm a victim to. So I always stay on 314.22. Problem is, windows is a bit too smart for its own good and keeps trying to install the newest version without asking or even prompting me. I can disable it from doing that by changing the "Device Installation Settings" to "Never install driver updates from windows update", but the problem I realized today is that this prevents windows from auto installing all other driver as well... for example, when I plugged in my printer, it said in order to auto install the driver I need to re-enable the auto driver update thing. The minute I re-enabled, BOOM, windows 8.1 re-installed the newest nvidia driver, and i had to spend more time rolling back and uninstalling all the parts I don't need, like HD audio, nvidia update, 3d vision .etc. etc
So my question is, is there anyway I can disable windows from updating that specific driver, or, if there is a way I can manually make windows install drivers for new devices (through windows and not driver hunting on manufacturer website) without having to enable the automatic driver update option.
P.S, when the setting is on "Never install driver updates from windows update", I see the nvidia update when I manually check for updates. So I tried hiding the update. Unfortunately, as soon as I let windows automatically install newest drivers, the nvidia driver installs anyway....
I have done several Win 8, Win 8.1 Preview, and Win 8 RTM clean installs recently and I always seem to end up with a Pacific Time Zone by default. Now, that tells me I am either missing that option on a consistent basis or MS didn't include it.
I was just wondering if it is possible to select a specific folder that the Photo app will shuffle through on it tile.
Right now the folder app is shuffling through on it tile anything that is in the "My Picture" folder. Whilst I would like it to shuffle through a folder inside of "My Pictures" ....
how to set a particular folder as the default location for a specific file type, or, in the event that's not possible, just set it as the default location for all file types. Mainly I'm interested in setting one specific folder as default for every time I right click on an image and choose save as. I'm tired of having to browse through to my images folder each and every time. It didn't used to do this until I upgraded to windows 8.1. I don't really use "libraries" as there are only two folders I use for downloads. One is for images. The other is for everything else. I don't mind having to browse to my downloads folder, just not the images folder as that is generally what I download the most since I work with graphics a lot.
I get an error showing specific module missing while trying to install MS Office 2013... I uninstalled older version using Microsoft fix it also..... Even that's is of no use... How to over come this error
I have an ASUS Vivotab running Windows 8. I am seeing that the service process hits 100% disk usage from roughly 4:58PM - 5:04PM daily. I've made sure that my antivirus is't downloading updates or running during that time, same with Windows Update, Live Update, etc. How can I find what specific process is running during that time that is killing the machine given I know when to watch for it?
I have an external HDD that I like to store music and pictures and videos on. But I also put personal stuff on it like homework or notes I write to myself. I'm sharing the entire drive across my home network. So they have access to everything. Even the stuff I dont want them to have access to.
Can I stop sharing that one specific folder on the drive? Or do I just have to take it off the drive and put it on my local disc? I right click on the folder I dont want to share. And it says "sharing" Then I hover over it. "Stop sharing" I click that. But I test it on my sister's laptop and it still is accessible. How do I hide that folder from my home network?
