May 15, 2013Is it possible to add specific picture as a tile, to the start screen?
Im talking about placing a photo to the tiles screen, can it be done?

Repositioning Start Screen Tile Groups
Nov 2, 2012I'm using an eyefinity setup that makes three monitors appear as one 5292 x1050 resolution monitor. I would like the tile group positions to default to the center of the screens. Right now the tile groups are positioned to the far left of the left monitor. Is there anyway to get the tile groups to stay more to the center of the available screen space so I don't have to keep looking to far left all the time? I'd also like to know if there's a way to add space between tile groups. The bezel compensation eyefinity feature is causing some rows of tiles to get covered up. Are there any settings for this or registry hacks I don't know about?

Oct 29, 2012I deleted the default desktop tile (the one that shows your desktop wallpaper) from the start screen. I've tried Recuva to see if I could still recover the file, and searched the internet and the installation disk. Unfortunately, the file it is nowhere to be found... Is there's another way to retrieve it?

Should I be using another program? as now I am getting my screenshots coming up on my Start screen's live photo's tile. Mar 4, 2012I upgraded to the CP a few days ago and just noticed a huge problem. The "Show Desktop" tile that is normally on the start screen be default has gone missing. I can't figure out how I got rid of it in the first place, but is there some way to add it back?
I have changed the title to more accurately reflect the problem. A bunch of the features that come with Windows 8 CP (the tablet friendly Settings page, Remote Desktop, the show desktop tile, The Windows Store, etc) all vanished shortly after I installed Windows 8. I tried reinstalling and the same thing happened again.
Browsers/Mail :: IE Tile On Win 8.1 Start Screen Opens Firefox
Aug 25, 2014I'm running Windows 8.1. and recently I tried to launch Internet Explorer (11) from the start menu. It launched Firefox. I ran a search from the start menu for Internet Explorer found it and clicked. Again Firefox opened instead of IE. I clicked on an icon on my desktop set up to open a website in IE regardless of browser preferences. It opened Firefox and went to the homepage I have set in Firefox not to the URL I had set.
Opening IE by browsing to to C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe. workes just fine. Creating a desktop shortcut directly to the exe works fine. I played around with the associated programs for internet and even with everything defaulting to IE it would still open Firefox when clicking on the IE Tile on the start menu. I uninstalled/reinstalled IE11 with no change.
So I then uninstalled Firefox. Now clicking on the start icon for IE it brings up a box asking me something about an exe with a checkbox (can't remember exactly) and below that Internet explorer or I can choose other down below. If I chose IE it brought up another window asking what I wanted to do with iexplore.exe. Save/ Save As / Save and Run. None of the options opened IE. IE at this point still runs by going directly to the exe in Program Files.
Logged off as that user and logged back on as a different user and ie works just fine from that profile.
I'm guessing something in my registry is hosed, how I can repair this?

Dec 14, 2013Just upgraded to 8.1 this weekend. Whenever I install a new app from the Store, it says it's installed, and I can search for it and play it, but it does NOT create a tile for the new app on my Start screen??
I can search for it, then right-click on it, and click on "Pin to Start" and it creates a tile on my Start screen, but I want it to create a new tile by default when I install an app, and it has stopped doing that!!!!

I opened a Scan image and by default it used the Picture Program that was bundled on the Start Screen.

Jul 10, 2014Just had this new laptop running windows 8 and its an Acer.When I select the photos tile on the screen it goes to another screen which is black with a blue square icon and underneath it tells me that there are no files or folders in this view.There are photos in my picture folder as I just put then in.But if I go to the other method and select the My picture folder the photos are there.

Apr 29, 2013Ok, maybe I'm missing something but accessing the pictures (live pictures tile) folder from the start menu shows my photo's but not in the order I'd like them to be in. As such, to my horror I've found I can't move them around (re-arrange them).
I can obviously re-arrange them if I access the "My Pictures" folder through explorer, in fact they're actually arranged differently than what is displayed accessing it through the Windows Start Screen.
Anyway is it possible to arrange them there because trying to manually move them around proves fruitless.
Also, how do you take a snip of the stat screen using the snip tool? Win 8 can be annoying at times.
8.1 - Welcome Screen (Lock Screen Picture) Not Showing On Restart
Jul 10, 2014Every time I Restart my Laptop, the Lock Screen does not show the Welcome Screen and skips directly to the User Account login screen. Actually, it shows a darkish blue screen for a couple of seconds and then jumps to the user account login.
When I use the logout function or the shutdown (and I power it back on) everything works normally.
I have ran SFC / Scannow in windows (8.1 by the way).
Deleted Desktop Start Folder File - No Live Tile
Feb 9, 2013A user provided the OP with a Desktop.ink file, and nothing was said about what to do with the file that was provided. I'm having the same problem, where I deleted the file by accident and now there is no live tile for the desktop anywhere on the start screen, not even in the All Apps category. I can't find it in the Windows Store either. What do I do? Here is a screenshot of the folder that I *think* held the original desktop file.

I noticed that i can bring up a desktop button by hovering the mouse pointer on the lower left corner but that is lame. I just want my desktop picture button back . also is there any way to have windows 8 open on the desktop ? I do not want to deal with the endless stupid steps required just to open the computer . first i have to raise the unnecessary full screen picture . then i have to type in my password . ( i do not want to type in my password because i am the only person who ever uses my computer and if someone else did i wouldn't care anyhow ) . then i get to the start menu which is filled with buggy programs that never work and now my desktop button has mysteriously disappeared .
I would like for windows 8 to have the option to simply open on my desktop without me doing anything . no password . no start menu . no full screen picture that i have to raise ( what is that thing for ? ) . I realize that the windows 8 start menu and password stuff is mainly due to the people who will use windows 8 with tablets and smart phones etc . but i only use my regular ( rather old ) desktop pc . the password screen and buggy start menu are totally unnecessary and a pita . Give windows 8 desktop users the option of booting the computer up to the desktop screen and bypassing all the other wasted steps . i do not want to use the apps on the start menu . i do not need to enter a password because i do not care if anyone uses the pc. And why did my desktop button disappear from the start menu which i do not even need?

Nov 6, 2013I am new to Windows 8, and on the tile display, when I touch a tile, i.e. the weather tile, a black screen appears with Accuweather.com in the middle; this lasts about a second, then the tile window display reappears. I would expect that the Accuweather.com website would appear, but it never does. Other tiles act the same way, but some apps are executed when the tile for them is touched.

Nov 17, 2012How can we reset the size of the screen that is presented after clicking on a tile in windows 8? I have two monitors and have my desktop going across both monitors the way I like it. However when you click on a windows 8 tile, the screen it brings up fills both monitors. its annoying because whatever I am viewing is centered down the middle of two monitors and trying to read it is awful. I want to be able to set the window size that appears after clicking a tile to be half a screen (only one monitor). How to accomplish this? I know you can go to desktop mode and it will be sized however I like it, but I need to change the size of the windows after clicking the tile.

Oct 28, 2013I have a Windows 8.1 and a problem with my apps. When I try to open weather, finance and other apps, They show their start-up screen and in a couple of seconds they're gone - I am brought to my metro screen... Tried to reinstall the apps, but hadn't got any luck...
But wait, it get interesting: Even though the weather app crashes, I have a live tile option on for that app, and it shows me weather nicely.
