I have accidentally changed the Icon for the Picture Viewer on the Start Metro Screen.
I opened a Scan image and by default it used the Picture Program that was bundled on the Start Screen.
Somehow I made the Scan the default new icon, which looks awful. How can I get the Icon back to its original?
In my flash drive I have a picture which I imported into Photos folder.I would like to Customize my Metro Start menu which includes that picture. How do I do that?
View 2 Replies View RelatedLast night did some browsing and as usual left the laptop running. Long time ago I changed power settings so it doesn't lock after a period of non use or if lid closed. When I woke up found it was in a lock screen. Assumed some Windows update caused it to reboot so tried to log in. To my surprise it doesn't accept the password I have been using since i bought it 6 months ago. It returns a message "Password is incorrect. Try again".
I am 100% sure of the password and that I didn't change it. Have not been in the user settings since I set it up after purchase.
So I noticed the Start button's Windows icon is missing in my metro mode. I'm not exactly sure what it's called, but it's the multitask pane on the left side of the screen that appears when you hover over the top left corner and slide down. Rather than a Windows icon it now assumes the Accent color in PC settings.
I have some modding software installed, such as UxStyle, Aero Glass for Windows 8, and a custom theme, although this issue existed without these installed.
how to get it back. Attached are two pics, one default and one on hover.
(My keyboard has no Print Screen button and Snipping tool doesn't seem to work in Metro)
I got this error message "Setting the account picture failed, please try again". I need to know how to fix this, i got this error after i browsed the pic i wanted to use.
Here's the screenshot, I'm not using a pirated copy of this OS.
IE Metro tile is missing from my metro start screen. It's not in the 'all apps' list either. when I go to program default, it is set as the default browser. I went through all the checks in the tutorial on here, but at best, I can only get the desktop IE tile to pin to start. I would rather have the metro version tile on my start.

The problem here is that it works well when i view it using google chrome but it shows only one frame i.e no animation in windows picture and fax viewer. I remember it was working well in my old PC which run XP.

We have lots of servers running Server 2012 and when in a Remote Desktop Window its difficult to try and move the cursor in the 1 pixel corner that brings up the Start Charm...
And Pressing the "Windows" key doesn't get translated so no Win+C ...

Is the start button the icon found in the lower left corner of the screen?...or on my computer keyboard?...it looks like a window. I was expecting that I would get a dropdown start menu with Win 8.1 like I get with Win 7 when I click on that button. Normally, she clicks on the "Mail" icon to get to her email, but now when she clicks on the icon it doesn't go to her email and instead it goes straight to her desktop. I tried clicking another icon; the "weather" one, and it too goes to the desktop. She told me she downloaded a couple games from iWin a few days ago and I noticed a new toolbar in her browser so I tried disabling that, but no change. I've checked what the default browser is, Internet Explorer (what she normally uses). I also tried making Chrome the default browser but still no change.

After running the VS2012 update (I started it from within VS and then closed VS) I went to the Start Screen and the icon in the VS2012 tile is now a white square. I unpinned it from the start screen. I typed in "Visual" and found the tile. It had the correct icon on the tile. When I select to pin it to the Start Screen, it still shows a white square instead of the VS icon.

I've tested it and confirm that it skips the Metro screen.
I upgraded to the CP a few days ago and just noticed a huge problem. The "Show Desktop" tile that is normally on the start screen be default has gone missing. I can't figure out how I got rid of it in the first place, but is there some way to add it back?
I have changed the title to more accurately reflect the problem. A bunch of the features that come with Windows 8 CP (the tablet friendly Settings page, Remote Desktop, the show desktop tile, The Windows Store, etc) all vanished shortly after I installed Windows 8. I tried reinstalling and the same thing happened again.
So, I have been trying to rid my Toshiba Satellite of a ton of bloatware they put on a new laptop running Windows 8. There are also some unnecessary Windows 8 tiles I can't get rid of from the big blue Metro start up screen.
Some, the ones that I guess are "apps" I can right click on, select "unpin" and they're gone, but others I cannot get rid of
Here's how my problem presents:
I select ALL APPS by right clicking on the blue Metro start screen.
Then I right click something like a game "It Girl" or "Polar Bowler" and I see PIN TO START, which I don't want to do, UNINSTALL, which I DO want to do, RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR, or OPEN FILE LOCATION. Uninstall just takes me to the control panel's "add/remove programs." Well there are no games there. I uninstalled them from there already. The other options just take me to the desktop
I'd love to be able to delete these tiles (some games, but also a number of Toshiba programs I'm never going to use.) But I've been unable to find the key.
Not like in Windoes 7, when Windows 8 is starting, only the recent user account is displayed on the start screen.
My question is: how to enforce Windows 8 to displayy ALL user accounts on the start screen, so that one can choose either of them at startup, independant on which was loged on previously.

Also the Windows store app is missing so I can't download the apps from the Windows 8 store. What should I do to bring em there? I also have a Windows 8 disc. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am involved in prepping several Panasonic Toughpads for deployment in our environment w/ Windows 8.1 installed. While prepping, we are logging in with domain accounts that have some domain admin privileges for various setups on the local machine.
Upon completion of setup, logging in as the assigned domain user, which, on these systems, will be a local admin. However, after a few seconds, where the account name is displayed on the top right corner of the start menu, it shows the logged in domain username--as it should--then quickly changes to show the previously logged in domain admin user's name.
This is phenomenon is occurring for myself and two of my coworkers who are using isolated domain admin logins assigned to them.
Troubleshooting that has already happened: restarted the system, deleted the domain admin's user folder and associated registry key in the ProfileList to no avail. Logged in as yet a different user, and back to the assigned user's account but still showing my domain admin name in the account name. Is this getting circular yet?
I'm using start8 and dual monitor setup in extended mode. Is there a way to keep the metro start menu up on 2nd monitor while have a browser or another program open on the 1st monitor.

I am the Administrator and some time ago I created a User without Admin privileges. Unfortunately I did not write down the PW, however, as Admin, I do not see a way to change the password (as Admins could under XP).
What are my options besides deleting the user (it is actually for me)?
