I was just wondering if it is possible to select a specific folder that the Photo app will shuffle through on it tile.
Right now the folder app is shuffling through on it tile anything that is in the "My Picture" folder. Whilst I would like it to shuffle through a folder inside of "My Pictures" ....
Use the Windows 8 standard Photo App. There is a slideshow inside, your photos will be displayed randomly. Can you choose a specific order to play the pictures in the slideshow? How?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to import pictures from external device (in this case - android phone with PTP) and in the import dialog I've selected "import settings" and then I'm trying to change "Import images to" location, but when I click on Browse and select the same path I was using on windows 7 (on E: partition) I get error "You cannot import to this folder.
Choose another location" which, frankly, doesn't make much sense. I've tried permissions and so forth and I can easily browse and save picture there, I'm the owner and all that. Why Pictures Importer complains and doesn't allow me to use this location? I don't want to import to %profile%/Pictures because it's small-ish system drive :|

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am new to Windows 8, and on the tile display, when I touch a tile, i.e. the weather tile, a black screen appears with Accuweather.com in the middle; this lasts about a second, then the tile window display reappears. I would expect that the Accuweather.com website would appear, but it never does. Other tiles act the same way, but some apps are executed when the tile for them is touched.

View 6 Replies View RelatedSuddenly every time i try to browse Downloads folder, explorer.exe freeze and stuck in not responding. Task manager shows 50% in cpu, and memory usage just keep getting bigger.
I have tried booting into safe mode, and i could browse the same folder. But after i get out from that folder and try to open it again, it freezes again.
I have tried cccleaner, but no luck there. I am using windows 8 pro x64 with 8gb of ram.
It happened randomly a few times in the past, but not every time like now. Didn't installed anything new for few days. And the constant freeze started today.

how to set a particular folder as the default location for a specific file type, or, in the event that's not possible, just set it as the default location for all file types. Mainly I'm interested in setting one specific folder as default for every time I right click on an image and choose save as. I'm tired of having to browse through to my images folder each and every time. It didn't used to do this until I upgraded to windows 8.1. I don't really use "libraries" as there are only two folders I use for downloads. One is for images. The other is for everything else. I don't mind having to browse to my downloads folder, just not the images folder as that is generally what I download the most since I work with graphics a lot.

A user provided the OP with a Desktop.ink file, and nothing was said about what to do with the file that was provided. I'm having the same problem, where I deleted the file by accident and now there is no live tile for the desktop anywhere on the start screen, not even in the All Apps category. I can't find it in the Windows Store either. What do I do? Here is a screenshot of the folder that I *think* held the original desktop file.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 8.1 and a problem with my apps. When I try to open weather, finance and other apps, They show their start-up screen and in a couple of seconds they're gone - I am brought to my metro screen... Tried to reinstall the apps, but hadn't got any luck...
But wait, it get interesting: Even though the weather app crashes, I have a live tile option on for that app, and it shows me weather nicely.

I updated windows 8.1 pro with wmc from store.I had NO problems, received no error messages, had no dc's, the power didn't shut off, the download didn't stop .. literally nothing went wrong. After update everything worked fine. All the apps are downloaded and were working fine.
But,After 2/3 months since updated, I suddenly noticed that every live tile / folder / app / game / setting etc. which were working fine, now not working.When I clicked on any tile, nothing happened. It just went to a blank green screen because my background color is green. It appears on the left upper corner as opened but doesn't run. When I click, I am send back to Start Screen or Desktop. Even Store and Windows Setting stopped working. So, naturally i started checking the web for answers, but couldn't find a solution to the exact problem i was having. I saw countless posts of people saying "Just uninstall / re-install the apps" but at first, I couldn't get my App store app to run. Again, it was just blank after several minutes of waiting. I was able to download it after using the search bar menu on the right side of my computer, and was able to start installing some apps.
So i thought that everything was going to be ok, but then I ran into another problem where some of the apps wouldn't install, and I received an error message with the code/number of 0x80070002.
So, at this point, only a few of my apps are working due to the simple fact that I was able to re-install them, but the others I can't re-install because of this error message.
FIRST SOLUTION:I found a thread online that someone had created with a simple fix to about 2-3 errors on the tiles. This is a simple powershell script to re-register some apps so that they can run again. This worked to fix my app store app and setting, but only that apps. The app update is still not working.
I have another windows live ID, and when I log in with that Id, all my apps works normally! I am out of sorts now.

View 4 Replies View Related​Looking to add a specific tag/label based functionality to my computer.
I have tons and tons of programs, photos, videos, documents, and other files on my Windows 8 computer, and I need a way to organize and search/filter them that meets some very specific criteria. Unfortunately, as I am sure that most are aware of these days, organization by folder is extremely llimited.
For example, let's say that I have a bunch of pictures. I have one of me and my brother celebrating his birthday. I may want to file that picture by "family", "birthday", and "Severin" - so that if I search on any of those, I can find it. Another picture may be a family cookout, maybe I want to file it by "family" and "summer 2013".
The way Google uses labels in Gmail would seem an ideal system, if something like that could be added. Here are some other criteria that my ideal system would use:
-It would integrate itself into the operating system, so that when browsing I can access, see, and modify the tag of the files in the folder I am in without havening to launch a separate application. Access via right-click would be a plus.
-It would be location independent - once I have tagged/labelled a file, I could then move that file from one location on my hard drive to another, and still pull it easily via tag/label searching without (of course) needing to know or specify where it is.
-It would have to work with all file types. For example, even though I know Windows 8 have built in support for metadata tags, some video file types do not support it, and therefore Windows 8 cannot add tags to those files. Whatever the solution I wind up with, it must work on ALL files I care to tag.
-Multi-tagging is also a critical feature - so I can select a group of files and tag them all at once, either to add, modify, or remove a tag, without of course altering any pre-existing tags other than the intended.
-A bonus would be if it was aesthetically compatible with Windows 7/8, both in its look and feel and in it's UI.
-Finally, there would have to be a way for it to work across the network - I store all my files in a desktop Windows 8 Computer, but access the files from that computer, or from my laptop, or my media center, or my wife's computer. I would need to be able to do both searching and tagging from any computer with network access to the main one, even if I have to install the same software or plugins on each system individually.
So you can't uninstall the photo app in 8.1?

I wouldn't mind using the Photo App but it doesn't give me any option to delete the photos once transferred. I am aware I can right click the device in My PC and Import that way, (like the Windows 7 of old), but the App still opens forcing me to close the screen! I've clicked on the Default setting for Photos and chose Do nothing but the photo App still automatically launches!!! What can I do? I just want the Windows 7 method of importing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe photo app is not displaying any library or file. Whenever I open any picture it opens in the PHOTO app but there is no next or previous feature. That's why I tried to include that folder (from which I want to see the photos) in my picture library. I included the folder into the picture library by right clicking on the folder and selecting the INCLUDE IN LIBRARY option and then PICTURES and the folder get included in it. I checked it manually. But the photo app is still not showing any single thing. its only written there IT'S LONELY IN HERE WITHOUT PHOTOS.

First I thought it was slow. Then I got tired of waiting and figured out how to associate all my photos with the windows photo viewer from the desktop apps like I was used to with Windows 7
However, I would like to give it a fair chance to work. So, I am posting here.
When I click on the photo app, it shows some folders, sometimes it kicks me back to the desktop before I can click anytime. Other times, it may show a photo for a few seconds before kicking me back. Either way, this is not acceptable.
The app is not closing. It is still running because if I click the left corner, I see it and can access it again, if over for a second.
Is this experience common. I have had my windows 8 pc a week and I switched over to windows 8.1 about two days after I initially got it setup. I am a very experienced Windows 7 user. I am trying to be open minded about this new operating system.
I right click on the .exe file in the file manager and select Pin to Start Menu. The Tile appears and works. However, the next time I log on that tile has disappeared. What's happening?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWell, last night, I had noticed that there was no desktop tile and if I typed "desktop" on the start screen there was no app for it Also, "Change PC Settings" wasn't starting. My guess is that it did that because I had a really hard time uninstalling a program so I had to try going by means of registry editing. So I ended up refreshing my computer (from the installation disc since PC settings wasn't working ) Now everything is back to normal. So all I want to know is how I can prevent this from happening again.
