Accounts :: How To Allow Specific Users To Shutdown Computer From Registry

Oct 2, 2013

How to specify which users can shutdown the computer from registry.

Using the local group policy this setting would be: Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Settings -> User Rights -> Shutdown the Computer

By default Administrators, Backup Operators and Users. The problem is that I need to change this settings form a script and I don't know where to look for it in the registry. I was thinking of using the reg add command in the script but I don't know what to change.

I tryed to use a program called regshot to analyse change to registry, so I made the change on Group policy and then looked at the changes but came to no conclusion.

Accounts :: Users Must Enter Username And Password To Use This Computer

Sep 15, 2014

I had recently activated my Administrator's account on Windows 8. But I was tired of having to put in the password each time and I made it where it would bypass that by hitting the windows key plus the x key then clicking on the Command Prompt (Admin). I put in "control userpasswords2" and hit 'enter', then I unticked the box that says "Users must enter username and password to use this computer" then click apply and restarted my computer.

I need more privacy on my computer and I want to have it where people have to sign in with the user name and password to use my computer. But when I do all the same things and tick the box again that says users have to use the username and password etc... it doesn't seem to work. It still doesn't require my username and password.

Accounts :: Win 8 / 8.1 - Restricted Users Can See Non-interactive Accounts

Mar 4, 2014

This bug has been present in 8 and it is still there in 8.1. If the computer has non-interactive user accounts (i.e. accounts listed under "Deny logon locally" in Local Security Policy), these accounts are visible in the "Sign Out/Lock" menu of every regular interactive user on that machine ("regular" in this case means a member of "Users" group, not "Administrators" group).

Interactive accounts with administrative privileges do not suffer from this problem: their "Sign Out/Lock" menu only lists interactive users, as it should be.

So, is there any workaround for this issue? Or is there an alternative way to create non-interactive accounts (for network access) so that they will not appear in "Sign Out/Lock" menu of regular users?

Accounts :: How To Remove Old Users From The PC

Jun 5, 2014

However, there a few of the older "Users" listed under This PC, which are not shown at the manage accounts page. Is there a simple way to delete the old accounts that are not in use. Deleting hem from file explorer did not work.

Accounts :: Lag When Changing Users?

Feb 21, 2014

Have my account and my wife's at home computer. Home build, excellent hardware, all updated and tuned in (as far as I can tell). Lately, when switching between accounts have been experiencing a 20 to 30 second lag before any response from any program. Example, I log in to my account, I click on email......it is a wait before response. In fact, if I click again before I get a response two instances of mail, or two browsers or any program comes up. It has not always been like this and, occasionally, it syncs in all programs as soon I log on.

Accounts :: How To Delete Old Users Files

Jun 3, 2013

So during setup of my laptop I created a few different accounts and then deleted some, so I now only have the one account left. Below is a picture of the folders I mean. The "joey_000" is the actual one for my account, the other 2 have nothing in them.

I made the other 2 accounts trying to change the name of the folder from "joey_000" to just my name, but it couldnt be done so I just left it. The other two folders are there and when I try to delete them, that error message comes up. I just want to be rid of them because the accounts to which they are linked have been deleted and they serve no purpose and are annoying.

I just wanted to get rid of some space.

Accounts :: Deleted USERS Folder - How To Restore

Jul 2, 2014

I'm using Win 8 with Win 7 Interface.

So basically the problem is that the computer is running on win 8 and the folder 'Users' located in C: was copied to disk D: and then deleted from disk C:.

Results?

Now when I go to 'start' there are no 'my music' 'my documents' etc, instead of that it shows '<No Text>' and doesn't open up. (Although when I scroll over the "<No Text>" (there are 3 different ones) I can see bars popping up 'Access letters and etc documents', 'View and organize pictures', 'Play music and other audio files'.)

I tried system restore 3 times to 3 different earlier restore points - nothing happened. How to fix this without having to reinstall OS?

Accounts :: Two Users Account Setup As Admin (Win 8.1 Pro)

Jan 23, 2014

I was a Windows 7 user and yesterday I installed Win 8.1 Pro, which I purchased almost a month ago, just didn't have the time to install (it was better that I didn't have any time) and since then I can't figure out lot of things, one of which is really disgusting. See that my mom and I use the same laptop, she uses it on morning and I at night.

And thus I created two user accounts, for example mine is A and my mom's is B. Now when I turn on the lappy it goes straight into my account, without even asking to which I want login! Where on Windows 7 after the welcome screen always there was an option of two accounts, but story has changed. So what should I do to get it back like it was on Seven? I just want each time I reboot the machine there must be an option of both accounts, and I will choose where I wanna login.

Both accounts of my mom and mine are set as admin.

Accounts :: Why Can't Users Delete User Pictures

Apr 8, 2014

It is astounding to me that Microsoft would not allow users to delete a user picture, if the user didn't want one at the logon screen.

What possible reason is there to disallow deleting the picture. I know you can create a blank jpg, use a different picture, but why not just eliminate the user picture. A choice to get rid of that bad decision some of us make in testing and trying things is just too puzzling to let go.

Windows, do us a favor and listen.

Accounts :: Creating All Subsequent Users On External HD

Nov 30, 2013

I want to set up my computer so that my administrative User account is stored locally, but all subsequent user accounts created are created on an external HD.

Many of the guides and tutorials which show how to do this involve changing the registry, which I believe will not allow me to differentiate between my current admin account and all subsequently created user accounts. I think this will mess with my locally stored user account. I do NOT want my computer to go looking for my administartive account on my external drive.

I was following this guide: User Profiles - Relocate to another Partition or Disk

Until it got to the part where you needed your USB/DVD with your Windows 8 installation media, which I do not have.

Other guides on how to change the user location (I think) will permanently change the location of ALL user files, including the Administrator's which I want to keep locally on my machine.

Examples -

How to Change User Profile Default Location in Windows 7 | Next of Windows
How To Change User Profile Location in Windows 8 without Registry Hack | Next of Windows

Finally - I want to be able to create the user accounts on the external drive directly, and I do not want to create them locally and port them over as some other guides have shown. I will be doing this process for dozens, maybe 100's of accounts over time and I do not want to go through the hassle of porting over every account I make.

Graphic Cards :: Fresh Windows 8 - Computer Shutdown And Reboots With Black Screen

Dec 22, 2013

My computer randomly shutdowns when I use it for a while maybe 2hrs or 3, reboots by itselfs and windows cannot boot back, getting a black screen and nothing happens, So i manually turn it off and turn it on again to make it work. Sometimes it doesn't even want to work, black screen after multiple reboots So i need to syster restore it, sometimes that also doesn't work and i need to reset it completely.

At first i thought it was the new drivers i installed for my nvidea geforce gt640, the 331 version. I heard it was making pcs crash like mine does, so i downgraded the driver to 306 and it works for longer but the crash happened once again after a while, and after a windows 8 reset (deleted everything and reinstalled by itself). So this is a fresh Windows 8 i believe but still does crash.

After the crash that happened tonight, i restarted my pc and realised one of my fan in my pc is going extremely fast at random times but not for long. I went closer to hear which one was doing that and it seems to be the fan on my video card, I also touched my card and its very HOTTTTTT close to burning my hand ".".

My pc has been cleaned yesterday by my step dad, had lots of dust, even in the video cards fan, but now is clean and still overheating. Using a 350W PS which i heard is not really good and that i should upgrade really soon.
CPU Temp is fine, all fans are working properly, I believe my video card is broken or my PS not giving it enough power or something?

The auto reboots are annoying, making me have to restore every time and sometimes reset Windows 8. It seems to only happen when i do lots of stuff at once like mixing via audacity and having x2 perfect world clients up, plus radio streaming live.
