Jun 19, 2014I don't know how this happened but I have a user "xyz" and user "xyz_2"; how can I merge these accounts and eliminate user "xyz_2"?

View 1 RepliesThis bug has been present in 8 and it is still there in 8.1. If the computer has non-interactive user accounts (i.e. accounts listed under "Deny logon locally" in Local Security Policy), these accounts are visible in the "Sign Out/Lock" menu of every regular interactive user on that machine ("regular" in this case means a member of "Users" group, not "Administrators" group).
Interactive accounts with administrative privileges do not suffer from this problem: their "Sign Out/Lock" menu only lists interactive users, as it should be.
So, is there any workaround for this issue? Or is there an alternative way to create non-interactive accounts (for network access) so that they will not appear in "Sign Out/Lock" menu of regular users?
How do you change Windows 8 to startup with the list of users on the computer rather than the user who logged in last? I know you can hit the back button but it's just annoying adding unnecessary steps to logging in. How to change this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a few Temp logons recently, and then had to copy my profile over to a new user account. Creation of the new user account seems to have gone pretty well, once I signed into my Microsoft account, everything associated with it is as it should be.
However, there a few of the older "Users" listed under This PC, which are not shown at the manage accounts page. Is there a simple way to delete the old accounts that are not in use. Deleting hem from file explorer did not work.
This PC: I'd like to delete "ADMIN 2" and "Andrew"
Have my account and my wife's at home computer. Home build, excellent hardware, all updated and tuned in (as far as I can tell). Lately, when switching between accounts have been experiencing a 20 to 30 second lag before any response from any program. Example, I log in to my account, I click on email......it is a wait before response. In fact, if I click again before I get a response two instances of mail, or two browsers or any program comes up. It has not always been like this and, occasionally, it syncs in all programs as soon I log on.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI wat to know how to change user name at "C:Users".
I've changed user name at control panel following this guide:
User Account Name - Change in Windows 8[1]=User%20Accounts
But the name at "C:Users" - which is showing Korean - was not changed.
So during setup of my laptop I created a few different accounts and then deleted some, so I now only have the one account left. Below is a picture of the folders I mean. The "joey_000" is the actual one for my account, the other 2 have nothing in them.
I made the other 2 accounts trying to change the name of the folder from "joey_000" to just my name, but it couldnt be done so I just left it. The other two folders are there and when I try to delete them, that error message comes up. I just want to be rid of them because the accounts to which they are linked have been deleted and they serve no purpose and are annoying.
I recently had both the guest and the built-in "Administrator" account enabled, but just today I decided to turn them off. Now there are two folders in C:Users (Guest and Administrator), and I was wondering if I can delete them. I probably will use neither ever again, but I do not want to mess up anything. I just wanted to get rid of some space.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Win 8 with Win 7 Interface.
So basically the problem is that the computer is running on win 8 and the folder 'Users' located in C: was copied to disk D: and then deleted from disk C:.
Results?
Now when I go to 'start' there are no 'my music' 'my documents' etc, instead of that it shows '<No Text>' and doesn't open up. (Although when I scroll over the "<No Text>" (there are 3 different ones) I can see bars popping up 'Access letters and etc documents', 'View and organize pictures', 'Play music and other audio files'.)
I tried system restore 3 times to 3 different earlier restore points - nothing happened. How to fix this without having to reinstall OS?
I was a Windows 7 user and yesterday I installed Win 8.1 Pro, which I purchased almost a month ago, just didn't have the time to install (it was better that I didn't have any time) and since then I can't figure out lot of things, one of which is really disgusting. See that my mom and I use the same laptop, she uses it on morning and I at night.
And thus I created two user accounts, for example mine is A and my mom's is B. Now when I turn on the lappy it goes straight into my account, without even asking to which I want login! Where on Windows 7 after the welcome screen always there was an option of two accounts, but story has changed. So what should I do to get it back like it was on Seven? I just want each time I reboot the machine there must be an option of both accounts, and I will choose where I wanna login.
Both accounts of my mom and mine are set as admin.
It is astounding to me that Microsoft would not allow users to delete a user picture, if the user didn't want one at the logon screen.
What possible reason is there to disallow deleting the picture. I know you can create a blank jpg, use a different picture, but why not just eliminate the user picture. A choice to get rid of that bad decision some of us make in testing and trying things is just too puzzling to let go.
Windows, do us a favor and listen.
I have four computers running Windows 8.1
On three the User Accounts dialog box has the phrase, "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer." I have deselected that box and entered the passwords and now I log in automatically.
But on one computer in the User Accounts dialog box there is no phrase, "Users must enter..." and there is not box to deselect.
I want to set up my computer so that my administrative User account is stored locally, but all subsequent user accounts created are created on an external HD.
Many of the guides and tutorials which show how to do this involve changing the registry, which I believe will not allow me to differentiate between my current admin account and all subsequently created user accounts. I think this will mess with my locally stored user account. I do NOT want my computer to go looking for my administartive account on my external drive.
I was following this guide: User Profiles - Relocate to another Partition or Disk
Until it got to the part where you needed your USB/DVD with your Windows 8 installation media, which I do not have.
Other guides on how to change the user location (I think) will permanently change the location of ALL user files, including the Administrator's which I want to keep locally on my machine.
Examples -
How to Change User Profile Default Location in Windows 7 | Next of Windows
How To Change User Profile Location in Windows 8 without Registry Hack | Next of Windows
Finally - I want to be able to create the user accounts on the external drive directly, and I do not want to create them locally and port them over as some other guides have shown. I will be doing this process for dozens, maybe 100's of accounts over time and I do not want to go through the hassle of porting over every account I make.
I am trying to block my personal files on my computer from the guest account and I was wondering how I do this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had recently activated my Administrator's account on Windows 8. But I was tired of having to put in the password each time and I made it where it would bypass that by hitting the windows key plus the x key then clicking on the Command Prompt (Admin). I put in "control userpasswords2" and hit 'enter', then I unticked the box that says "Users must enter username and password to use this computer" then click apply and restarted my computer.
I need more privacy on my computer and I want to have it where people have to sign in with the user name and password to use my computer. But when I do all the same things and tick the box again that says users have to use the username and password etc... it doesn't seem to work. It still doesn't require my username and password.
I have moved all of the user file from the c: on to any hard drive can move appdata folder as well also is there way new users file are automatically on the other drive
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow to specify which users can shutdown the computer from registry.
Using the local group policy this setting would be: Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Settings -> User Rights -> Shutdown the Computer
By default Administrators, Backup Operators and Users. The problem is that I need to change this settings form a script and I don't know where to look for it in the registry. I was thinking of using the reg add command in the script but I don't know what to change.
I tryed to use a program called regshot to analyse change to registry, so I made the change on Group policy and then looked at the changes but came to no conclusion.
I have windows 8. My computer set up as me the administrator, and another user account for my kids. My problem is, when i log into the kids account, and click the mail app. i can see my hotmail account.
So basically they have access to my emails. which i don't want to happen. How do I stop other users getting access to my email ?
Me and my wife, have a PC with Windows 8.1 installed. The thing is that the constant requirement of entering user passwords everything we switch is very annoying. Is there anyway to bypass password screens for all users when Windows are booting or when we change users?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought my 15 year old son a laptop with Windows 8. I was able to set up my Admin account and his "standard" account, and put a time curfew and limits on his account, but when I logged in as him, I saw that he would be able to create another account which would pretty much defeat the whole time limit thing! Is there a way to prevent all but admin accounts to be able to create more accounts?? I'm pretty technically savvy but this new Windows 8 is not as easy to navigate as the previous versions!! (I wouldn't mind a "classic view" either, if that exists!)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI saw many posts here about users privacy in Windows 8...I'm logged in with my online account,I bought activation key from them and even I will use a local account they will know who is the user by that key.
The question is: With Windows 8 i'm not really the owner to my machine...?So they known all about my macnine all about my Internet history all sites...etc...?
Is it may orientates how to add permissions for users who log on using the server?
In Windows 7, they were more stricter for example when user want install programs.
Is there a program that such causes can block the installation of programs, or hide the drives on your computer? It can be installed on a server or locally - with indifference.
I heard something about a Microsoft program, which was in the name of "policy", but unfortunately I can not find it.
Another matter. How a computer (model) duplicate to the other 20? For a backup? By the server? I mean, I do not have to install the 19 remaining, but install programs, just as soon as cloned together with all the settings.
I just bought a 1TB hard drive for my pc running windows 8 and now my roomate wants to use my computer. Is there any way to separate the HDD in two? 500GB designated to him and 500 to me? There should be a way to do that because I dont want my roomate to see my files on the (local disk) which is what it's called right now.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am setting up a new computer with Windows 8.1. I have added a 6TB second drive to the system that I am putting my Files on. I want only the Admin username to have access to this drive and block other users (other users are my kids).
Is blocking other users as simple as going to the security tab and remove "Users(XXUsers)" and just leave Authenticated Users, System, and Administrators? Should I add in this admin username too?
I just got Windows 8, and there are some programs that I want exclusively on my account. We have two accounts set up so far, and I just don't want to clutter up the other user's desktop with my stuff. Is there a way to assign a program to certain users?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow to disable the edge gestures, touchpad only, for all users on Windows 8.1. Here's the scenario:
The laptops are touchscreen. You use the touchpad to move the cursor around and the Edge gesture is triggered (charms, recent apps etc)....
There are hundreds Windows 8.1 laptops that will be put into production soon. The master image has already been created and installed on all of the laptops by the manufacturer.
Each laptop will be used by several different users for testing, so disabling the gestures per computer per user/profile would be quite difficult.

I haven't found a way to do it via group policy or the registry for all users.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI really like the onedrive PC feature from Microsoft. It allows to upload my work files seamlessly. But I do not want other PC users (different user accounts on the same computer) to access that folder. I know they might not be able to view the files but I also don't want them to see the content inside the folder.
Can it be done with the same old 'folder permission' settings? If yes, how to do that?
I have a new HP Envy and there are 2 users. We have set up a start screen each with websites saved. When we access these one users text is too small to read but it can be enlarged each time it is accessed, the other users sc reen is too large and it cannot be made smaller. I want both users to have normal sized text and I want it to be fixed soi that it will not change.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI read somewhere, I don't remember where exactly, that it was possible to move the "Users" folder from the main drive SSD to a secondary drive HDD. The SSD would only be used for programs and the OS files, while the "Users" folder will be located the HDD and save some space in my SSD. If I can recall, the process went something like this:
1. Install the operating system, normal, with only 1 User, which automatically has Admin rights.
2. After login in, we would tweak with the Registry and some other places... (This part is what I dont remember)
3. After the system is set with all the changes, we would create a User with Admin rights.
4. We log off and sign in with the new user we created. A new "Users" folder is created in the HDD along with all the new user files, i.e, Documents, Pictures, Movies, AppData, etc.
5. The user that was created upon Installation of the OS is deleted along with the "Users" folder located in the SSD.
I need to know the complete process to avoid crashes and system damages. I will be installing Windows 8.1 Pro x64. There is a website that says that we should NOT move the Users folder published October 2013, while there is another website that explains the process only that this is dated March 2012 before Win 8.1.
Would this affect updates, Win App installations by other users?
New at this site and with windows 8.1, quite a change from XP. I am setting up a alienate PC and I would like to copy the start page (metro) that I have set to an additional user, I did copy my appsfolder.itemdata-ms to C:usermicrosoft....appsfolder.itemdata-ms but I still do not get the same layout or apps as mine. What I am trying is to have the same layout and apps for all users without having to re-arrange each user start screen.
