I have four computers running Windows 8.1
On three the User Accounts dialog box has the phrase, "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer." I have deselected that box and entered the passwords and now I log in automatically.
But on one computer in the User Accounts dialog box there is no phrase, "Users must enter..." and there is not box to deselect.
I had recently activated my Administrator's account on Windows 8. But I was tired of having to put in the password each time and I made it where it would bypass that by hitting the windows key plus the x key then clicking on the Command Prompt (Admin). I put in "control userpasswords2" and hit 'enter', then I unticked the box that says "Users must enter username and password to use this computer" then click apply and restarted my computer.
I need more privacy on my computer and I want to have it where people have to sign in with the user name and password to use my computer. But when I do all the same things and tick the box again that says users have to use the username and password etc... it doesn't seem to work. It still doesn't require my username and password.
just yesterday I bought a new desktop PC which run with Windows 8.At my first startup of Win 8, the PC asked me a registration on Microsoft website and a creation of administrator account.When I did the second startup, Win 8 asked me to write the administrator password, but my password doesn't run, and also the PC's name is the same of my e-mail address and not the name that I had chose with my first registration. So I think I made some mistake during registration and also now for me it's impossible even know the e-mail address used for the administator account registration.On Microsoft's website I haven't found information for recover account name (the email) and password.Before switch off the PC for the first time, fortunately I created a second account (user) on my PC, so now I have the access to the PC only like user and not like administator.How I can solve this situation?I haven't an important file of software on my PC (because is new and I have not had time for install nothing!).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have recently set up a Win 8.1 notebook and from a cold boot Win comes up with a confusion by showing part of my email address as user (a hangover from a MS account) but, after saying that the username is incorrect, then allows me to enter my local account / network creds.
I decided that, since the machine could go on the road from time to time, I would reintroduce the need for username and password. I would like to tidy up this mixed-up situation by having to enter my local account details and not have this 'error' message from dear old MS pop up. Having part of my email address appear on bootup is hardly useful in terms of security.
How do I change settings to allow access without having to enter password everytime?

I do not have a pin password, regular password, password reset disc, and I cannot enter the bios. So my question is, how do I get to my picture password, without a the choice to enter my computer, since I forgot my password. Let me give the details. I go to my picture password, and get it wrong to many times, so it then closes the window and goes to the regular password screen, but there are no sign in options. But In the password settings it says the picture password is still there, so is the picture password hidden, deleted, or do you have to be in the password settings to get it back? I have forgotten my regular password, and do not have a pin password.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to find out why my account randomly asks me to re-enter my password. They do seem random (i.e. not a set time interval, not after system changes, computer is not going to sleep mode, etc...) and I do not see any setting anywhere that would cause a system login to time-out. I am providing three screen shots of where it asks this when it happens and here is the text in case people need to search for this same problem in the future.

I had a new Windows 8.1 Pro system installed. Was able to logon to it with no problem. The computer name was OWNER. Changed it to what my previous computer was named. Now during startup the Admin logon gives the following message:
The user name or password is incorrect. Try again.
When I click on 'OK' I'm presented with a signon screen with Admin as the user name. No password that I enter works. When I lookup the signon accounts Admin is NOT one of them.
Listed the user accounts and found the following item for Admin:

Me and my wife, have a PC with Windows 8.1 installed. The thing is that the constant requirement of entering user passwords everything we switch is very annoying. Is there anyway to bypass password screens for all users when Windows are booting or when we change users?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried booting up my PC which has Windows 8 installed and it was working fine until yesterday.
It has a "Enter Password" screen upon start-up and I think it's a virus because it only lets me enter 10 characters and even though, I do put in the correct password, it still says it's incorrect. The computer also shuts down after 3 unsuccessful attempts.
I have attached a picture of the screen.
My Internet Explorer is keep on asking for the User Name and Password.
Steps Taken :
1) Deleted the cookies and deleted the temp files too.
2) Reset the Browser and disabled all the Add-on's
3) Uninstalled and installed the IE.
Same URL is working in other browser's ( Chrome , Firefox )...
I've already used netplwiz and the box is not checked but I still have to sign in. I have two options...sign in with windows 8 or Microsoft passwords. I am the only user in the house... I don't want to have to put in a password every time I boot up. Is there another way?

I can't do anything on control panel neither because its not letting me. I have tried everything and nothing seems to work.

After the installation was complete, the system asks me for a password. I press enter but it says the pw is incorrect so I tried all my old passwords but to no avail. I cannot reinstall it because I'm unable to change the boot order from bios to my 32GB USB thumb drive as it is not letting me.

So I changed my full name into just my first name, the user account stayed the same, only changing to what I set in Metro and Start8 (Start8 is an alternative to Metro bringing back the start bar).

Obviously, this has little impact on functionality, but I would like to change the name so any files I have from my other computer get put in the proper location without having to correct the username typo when switching back and forth. View 1 Replies View RelatedI do a lot of remote administration after hours and I often login as an admin user into client workstations to fix various issues. One thing that I do to eliminate confusion is to edit the registry of a Win7 machine and change the HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAuthenticationLogonUILastLoggedOnUser registry value back to the user's username.
That way inattentive users don't keep trying their password with the Admin username when they attempt to login the next day. I see that Windows 8 has the same key, but changing that value doesn't appear to "stick". It appears to be overwritten when you logout/reboot/shutdown. I've also tried deleting the SAM entries in the same key, but that seems to have no effect. I've seen several posts on how to show all users or none on the logon screen, but I'm trying to minimize the changes that end users will experience (complain about). I'm also hoping for a solution that will work with both domain and non-domain joined computers.
My friend has Win 8 64-bit installed via his assembler.
In his C: drive (OS drive)..it shows as C:UserHome..unlike mine one which is C:UserTroy <my name>
He wants his user name to replace the "Home" user.
How to achieve this and hope this will not impact the already installed progs?
This bug has been present in 8 and it is still there in 8.1. If the computer has non-interactive user accounts (i.e. accounts listed under "Deny logon locally" in Local Security Policy), these accounts are visible in the "Sign Out/Lock" menu of every regular interactive user on that machine ("regular" in this case means a member of "Users" group, not "Administrators" group).
Interactive accounts with administrative privileges do not suffer from this problem: their "Sign Out/Lock" menu only lists interactive users, as it should be.
So, is there any workaround for this issue? Or is there an alternative way to create non-interactive accounts (for network access) so that they will not appear in "Sign Out/Lock" menu of regular users?
When setting up Windows 8 64-bit Pro on the page titled "Sign in to your PC" I choose the sign into my Microsoft account as opposed to "Sign in without Microsoft Account". Big mistake. It created a username called dwmad_000 which is part of my email address used for that Microsoft account.
To amend this username to one of choice, I changed the name in my online Microsoft account and also from C.Panel created a local account. I now have both in Windows Explorer but the default one is always dwmad_000.
How to get rid of dwmad_000 or change it permanently to First Name Last Name and sycn the 2.
I have my Windows 8.1 PC's password policy set so that a password is not required when waking from sleep/shutdown. I used to be able to wake the PC from sleep and not put in a password, and I could turn the PC on after a shutdown without having to put in a password either. Since last week, though, when I turn my PC on, it will boot to the Windows loading screen and after loading for a bit, it will jump into the login screen and immediately report a login error that the username or password is incorrect. This happens before I even get a chance to type a username or password. The fact that I have to type in the username and password is strange because I have the PC set to bypass that option.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhile trying to share folders and files not within a homegroup, but with workgroup, I create 2 same accounts on my desktop pc and my notebook that have windows 8 installed on them. Then I share folders and when accessing dtPC or notebook windows does not ask for a password, just opens the files under the network group. However when i start windows and try to access shared folders right away, it gives me the message that the path was not found. Only a while after that it gives me the access.
If I try to do the same thing but with the notebook what has windows 7 installed it asks me for a password and username as expected and everything goes well.
Why can't I make windows 8 ask for credentials while trying to reach another pc with windows 8.
I set up the user account using my Microsoft email account. I would like to use a different password on my desktop vs the email password. My email password since it is accessible via web is strong 16 characters long, random characters password and changed often. I would like to change the desktop password to something I can remember, still strong, but I don't change it as often since you have to get physical access to my desktop.
I assumed once I linked to the Microsoft account I could change the password on the machine without it changing my email password.
Is this not possible? I would prefer not to have to lower the security of my email account just to accommodate Windows 8. Never a problem before as my email clients stored the password.
I don't know how this happened but I have a user "xyz" and user "xyz_2"; how can I merge these accounts and eliminate user "xyz_2"?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a few Temp logons recently, and then had to copy my profile over to a new user account. Creation of the new user account seems to have gone pretty well, once I signed into my Microsoft account, everything associated with it is as it should be.
However, there a few of the older "Users" listed under This PC, which are not shown at the manage accounts page. Is there a simple way to delete the old accounts that are not in use. Deleting hem from file explorer did not work.

Have my account and my wife's at home computer. Home build, excellent hardware, all updated and tuned in (as far as I can tell). Lately, when switching between accounts have been experiencing a 20 to 30 second lag before any response from any program. Example, I log in to my account, I click on email......it is a wait before response. In fact, if I click again before I get a response two instances of mail, or two browsers or any program comes up. It has not always been like this and, occasionally, it syncs in all programs as soon I log on.

I've changed user name at control panel following this guide:
User Account Name - Change in Windows 8[1]=User%20Accounts
But the name at "C:Users" - which is showing Korean - was not changed.
So during setup of my laptop I created a few different accounts and then deleted some, so I now only have the one account left. Below is a picture of the folders I mean. The "joey_000" is the actual one for my account, the other 2 have nothing in them.
I made the other 2 accounts trying to change the name of the folder from "joey_000" to just my name, but it couldnt be done so I just left it. The other two folders are there and when I try to delete them, that error message comes up. I just want to be rid of them because the accounts to which they are linked have been deleted and they serve no purpose and are annoying.
I recently had both the guest and the built-in "Administrator" account enabled, but just today I decided to turn them off. Now there are two folders in C:Users (Guest and Administrator), and I was wondering if I can delete them. I probably will use neither ever again, but I do not want to mess up anything. I just wanted to get rid of some space.

So basically the problem is that the computer is running on win 8 and the folder 'Users' located in C: was copied to disk D: and then deleted from disk C:.
Results?
Now when I go to 'start' there are no 'my music' 'my documents' etc, instead of that it shows '<No Text>' and doesn't open up. (Although when I scroll over the "<No Text>" (there are 3 different ones) I can see bars popping up 'Access letters and etc documents', 'View and organize pictures', 'Play music and other audio files'.)
I tried system restore 3 times to 3 different earlier restore points - nothing happened. How to fix this without having to reinstall OS?
I was a Windows 7 user and yesterday I installed Win 8.1 Pro, which I purchased almost a month ago, just didn't have the time to install (it was better that I didn't have any time) and since then I can't figure out lot of things, one of which is really disgusting. See that my mom and I use the same laptop, she uses it on morning and I at night.
And thus I created two user accounts, for example mine is A and my mom's is B. Now when I turn on the lappy it goes straight into my account, without even asking to which I want login! Where on Windows 7 after the welcome screen always there was an option of two accounts, but story has changed. So what should I do to get it back like it was on Seven? I just want each time I reboot the machine there must be an option of both accounts, and I will choose where I wanna login.
Both accounts of my mom and mine are set as admin.
