I've already used netplwiz and the box is not checked but I still have to sign in. I have two options...sign in with windows 8 or Microsoft passwords. I am the only user in the house... I don't want to have to put in a password every time I boot up. Is there another way?
View 1 RepliesI had recently activated my Administrator's account on Windows 8. But I was tired of having to put in the password each time and I made it where it would bypass that by hitting the windows key plus the x key then clicking on the Command Prompt (Admin). I put in "control userpasswords2" and hit 'enter', then I unticked the box that says "Users must enter username and password to use this computer" then click apply and restarted my computer.
I need more privacy on my computer and I want to have it where people have to sign in with the user name and password to use my computer. But when I do all the same things and tick the box again that says users have to use the username and password etc... it doesn't seem to work. It still doesn't require my username and password.
I tried booting up my PC which has Windows 8 installed and it was working fine until yesterday.
It has a "Enter Password" screen upon start-up and I think it's a virus because it only lets me enter 10 characters and even though, I do put in the correct password, it still says it's incorrect. The computer also shuts down after 3 unsuccessful attempts.

I was trying to activate the administrator account and a UAC message popped up telling em to enter administrator password and click yes but there was nowhere to enter password and the yes button is disabled out. I can't do anything on control panel neither because its not letting me. I have tried everything and nothing seems to work.

I am only able to login using the Standard Account and unable to create any more admin accounts or make any changes, I am even unable to perform the Gateway Recovery as its asking for the Administrator Password. I even can't enter the BIOS to disable the Fast Boot or change the First Boot to USB so that I can use any other Image of Windows 8 to reinstall.

On three the User Accounts dialog box has the phrase, "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer." I have deselected that box and entered the passwords and now I log in automatically.
But on one computer in the User Accounts dialog box there is no phrase, "Users must enter..." and there is not box to deselect.
I installed windows 8 release preview on my Samsung Slate yesterday. When it asked me to enter a password, I didn't and continued. After the installation was complete, the system asks me for a password. I press enter but it says the pw is incorrect so I tried all my old passwords but to no avail. I cannot reinstall it because I'm unable to change the boot order from bios to my 32GB USB thumb drive as it is not letting me.

I do not have a pin password, regular password, password reset disc, and I cannot enter the bios. So my question is, how do I get to my picture password, without a the choice to enter my computer, since I forgot my password. Let me give the details. I go to my picture password, and get it wrong to many times, so it then closes the window and goes to the regular password screen, but there are no sign in options. But In the password settings it says the picture password is still there, so is the picture password hidden, deleted, or do you have to be in the password settings to get it back? I have forgotten my regular password, and do not have a pin password.

They do seem random (i.e. not a set time interval, not after system changes, computer is not going to sleep mode, etc...) and I do not see any setting anywhere that would cause a system login to time-out. I am providing three screen shots of where it asks this when it happens and here is the text in case people need to search for this same problem in the future.

I found instructions to disable the password, but it only works at start up. I'm still getting the prompt when the computer goes to sleep. I got this far in the control panel but it looks like it's already set for no password. So why am I still getting the prompt?

Somehow, though, there appears to be another password on the account. For instance, when I restart Windows 8 I am prompted for a password.
I have to log back on with a password every time my laptop goes to sleep. Can I disable the password requirement so it boots straight to the tiles or desktop? It really is annoying to have to enter the password every time.

my mouse keeps waking my computer from S3 sleep everytime it is slighty moved. I want to disable my mouse's ability to wake up my computer.
Disabling wake-on-usb is not an option as i want to be able to wake up my computer when i press a key on my keyboard.I have tried to check in device manager for the power control options of my mouse.
I have my laptop set up so I don't have to enter a password each time I start it. But I recently changed my password in my Microsoft account by going into Microsoft.com. Now when I start my laptop, it stops half way giving a message that it has an invalid password. At this point, I just enter my new password and it finishes booting up with no problem.
So my question is how do I synchronize the password that my laptop is using to the new changed password in my Microsoft account?

For some reason I forgot my Microsoft password on my new box. It won't let me access it. I've tried every password I have ever used and the only thing it says is to go to access.live.com to reset my password. I'm afraid to try it on this computer for fear it will lock me out of this one too. It is MY computer. There's an account on the computer that's been linked to a Microsoft account, however the MS account password is lost and since all the forgot password options have been filled in with gibberish there's really no way to recover it.
Normally I'd say just reinstall the OS, but apparently we need access to this account.
There's no other user accounts whatsoever. Just one administrator account.
So, facts:
- It's linked to Microsoft.
- Microsoft account in inaccessible.
- Microsoft account cannot be recovered.
- There's no backups or anything.
- Computer account needs to be accessed unharmed.
Ultimately, I guess we need to actually hack into this account by force and I honestly don't know how to do something going that far because I've never been forced to go that far before. I'm going to guess it's going to involve booting from a pendrive or something.

I am in the midst of the final steps in setting my my new Win 8 system.
I have a Win XP and Win 8 computer on my home network. I believe that I have set up file and printer sharing correctly. I can access the files and printer on the XP system from the Win 8 system. However, when I attempt to access the Win 8 files from the Win XP system, I get a long delay (about a minute or two) and then it asks me for the User Name & Password. I enter them and then and it works fine.
If I try to print on the printer attached to the Win 8 system from the XP system, I get a printer error unless I have already signed in with the ID & PW when accessing files. It never asks me for an ID & PW before attempting to print.
On the Win 8 system, I have selected "Turn off password protected sharing" in the "Network and Sharing Center/Advanced Sharing Settings".
The Win XP system has previously been correctly sharing files and printers with another XP system for some time and I haven't changed any settings on the XP computer.
Both the XP and Win 8 systems are assigned the same Workgroup name.
