I am very pleased with my windows 8.1, I just find it really annoying that I see in "My Computer (PC)" my personal folders pictures, music, videos and downloads.
I've just recently upgraded from Vista to Windows 8 and while the "Start" interface requires getting used to I've learned to adapt. My main gripe about this OS is that I absolutely hate seeing my zip files show up as a folder extension in the Explorer program as it adds more clutter whenever I'm looking or things. I hated it when it was in Vista and it aggravates me now in Windows 8. Vista was easy to remedy as involved a minor adjustment, unfortunately Windows 8 gets a little more complicated as I've no clue about what to do. Google has brought me here with instructions on removing the feature that dates back to Windows 7, but I get stuck somewhere between in the regedit and "owner" tab as I don't seem to have that feature. clarify what exactly I am supposed to do in that regards. Also, I would like to add that I am not looking for another third party program to extract or compress my zip files, I'm perfectly happy with my old one...unless your program some how solves my problem.
I have the folder "Download master" and "Eltima Software" can be seen via program "flash decompiler" where as under windows explorer it doesn't show it. on rightside you can see I disable all hidden system files, enable show hidden files, I have also tried to type in directory path on the top of window explorer and nothing works, although I'd assume cmd will work and will show under dir but thats not what I want.I have also searched net can't find any information about this Download Master folder and its around 2 MB.
I've already used netplwiz and the box is not checked but I still have to sign in. I have two options...sign in with windows 8 or Microsoft passwords. I am the only user in the house... I don't want to have to put in a password every time I boot up. Is there another way?
my mouse keeps waking my computer from S3 sleep everytime it is slighty moved. I want to disable my mouse's ability to wake up my computer.
Disabling wake-on-usb is not an option as i want to be able to wake up my computer when i press a key on my keyboard.I have tried to check in device manager for the power control options of my mouse.
This is a new computer and OS for me, so I may just not be familiar with how it is SUPPOSED to work. When we got the computer I loaded Office, Photoshop, Browsers, etc. I set up the tiles on the start menu. But since the computer rebooted (and every time since then), the tiles have disappeared and the computer acts like its the first time I've used Firefox ("do you want to make this your default browser?").
Each time I reboot, Word is still on the computer but it has to activate and set my initials as if I've never opened it on the computer before. The only hint of something I think I could do differently is that when I'm on the " PC Settings(?)" screen under Sync options it tells me I am logged into a temporary profile. I can't figure out how to change this though.
I have some strange issues when booting Windows 8.
1) Sometimes, the computer boots seemingly without remembering my personal settings, so it starts on the "Preparing Windows" screen. If I let it run, it continues to set up Windows giving me a 'fresh desktop' without my configurations on it. After a reboot, it's either back to normal, or 2) happens.
2) Other times, it doesn't correctly execute my msconfig, only booting very few programs.
Restarting always solves the issue, but it's rather annoying having to restart about half the times I boot the computer.
The present file format of these personal videos is: .3gp. When I try to play them in Xbox video I get this error message: Can't play because the item's file format isn't supported. Check the store to see if this item is available there. 40 apps open when I did check. Which app will play this .3gp format? I can visually play them in Windows Media Player but for some reason there's no sound & it's turned up to full volume.
is the personal folder shared by default? that is, Computer ---> Local Disk C ---> Users ---> username, is the username folder automatically shared on a new windows 8 laptop?
i checked the properties of the username folder and under the Sharing tab it states under my username that the folder is Shared,
I have a sony camcorder with Play Memories Home. When I try to download videos from my iphone, playmemories pops up, and tries to work with the download. However, when I download the content, all my pictures download, and only some videos download, but it says that all content has downloaded. When I searched for the lost videos, I found them on xbox video, but cannot find them anywhere else on the computer. I also cannot figure out how to get them from xbox video to where I store the rest of my videos.
Word documents open, but I can't delete, move, or open anything like pictures and media.
It says the file is damaged, windows can't read it, or it's corrupted.
I can't move any programs/stuff to a new folder, or the screen flashes dark blue then back again, with nothing changed
If I delete something, again, blue screen flash, nothing changes. If I delete something while editing a picture (ex: selecting part of the picture then pressing "delete" key), nothing happens (Paint.NET - doubt this issue is from them).
My temp folder is extremely messed up as well. Link to my temp folder [URL] ....
I've upgraded from Windows 7 PC to Windows 8 Pro (not clean install) today and I can't now view my personal files in the new apps screen. E.g If I go into the photo app it says there are no pics available. I thought I'd lost the data but when searching around I noticed a folder had been created on the new desktop which was the same name as my PC name in Windows 7. Clicking into this folder took me to Users folder -> and my folders which contain all the music and photo files etc.
If I launch Explorer, On the left hand side of the Explorer screen (where it displays the Library docs) I am unable to select any of these or drag files to these from the folder described above. Also, when connecting my iPhone, it asks if I want to import my pics. I know all of these have already been imported but it doesn't recognise this and tries to import them all again, I assume into the new location in Windows 8.
Is this something to do with permissions. I've used my hotmail account to set up as a new Windows 8 profile and this has Admin rights. Or do I physically have to copy he data to the new location where personal library files are held in Windows 8.
For a couple weeks I have been streaming shows to my ps3 from my computer. On my PS3 I have access to four folders, Videos, Music, Pictures, and Playlists, the first three of which I can locate on my computer. When I want to watch a video, I simply copy it into the Videos folder on my computer, then stream from there.
Now I'd like to stream music, my problem is that my music isn't in my Music folder, I have it in a separate folder that doesn't show up on my PS3. Copying over all my music would take time, and I'd also have to redo my WMP playlists. I have tried adding this folder to my shared folder list, and to my Music library, but neither of these things made a difference.
I've spent a couple hours now trying to figure this out, but I can't seem to find anything on google that relates to my specific problem, but there is absolutely no way I'm the first person who's ever wanted to access folder's other than the 4 I've mentioned.
I was wondering if it's possible to take windows 7 from my first computer and install it to my new one that has windows 8 on it (windows 8 has problems with its wifi where windows 7 worked perfectly).
Possible to set up windows search to return directories in addition to files in the search results? If you have ever used Launchy you probably have a good idea of the functionality I am talking about.
Let's say I would like to have one place with only the following folders:
Images Videos Text Audio Temp Other
If I click on my username I get folders for My Photos, My Music etc... I would like to rename those folders so that they -stay- renamed. When I renamed the 'Downloads'-folder to 'Temp' it stayed renamed for about 30 minutes and then for some reason it switched its name back to 'Downloads'.
Another thing: As stated above i would like to have -only- the folders of my choosing within the "Username"-folder. But then what can I do about the 'AppData'-folder which is also within the 'Username'-folder?
I am trying to move a rar folder to MyGames folder and it's having none of it.. It just seems to be my MyGames folder and no other folders on my PC.
I am currently using Windows 8.1 is there a problem or a glitch with this? I currently have McAfee installed could this be apart of moving folders, copying folders to another folder?
I have checked all my permissions etc in the MyGames folder and they seem to be fine. I am trying to move folder to my Farming Simulator 2013 folder and it's not doing anything not even popping up with any kind of warning why my folder isn't copying, pasting correctly.
I have been using a PC for over ten years and, at best, I am still a novice! I am experiencing a lot of issues I had overcome with Win7. I will address thes one at a time. In the past when I was looking for a folder or file I pressed START and keyed in what I was looking, a name or unique words. How do I do that using Windows 8.1?
The Pictures Library in the Photos app/tile in Windows 8 doesn't offer me the option to choose my own pictures folders as it does my video ones. It only offers me to create a folder (I don't know where) or to import pictures from a camera or a cell phone, I suppose.
Is there any way for me to pick my own pictures folders instead of having to move my pictures into a Windows default folder only to have to move them again (or lose them)
I've found a way to pin any FILE or any FOLDER to the Taskbar (as well as to the Start Screen) with no registry editing, no software, no scripts, or anything.
Just create a shortcut that leads to the file or folder, NOT directly, but indirectly by way of File Explorer -- which is a program and can be pinned anywhere. Taskbar - Pin or Unpin a Folder - Windows 7 Forums
Then give the shortcut a name, which may be the same as the file's name.
The shortcut will have a File Explorer icon, but you can right-click it, select "Properties" and change the icon (recommended -- if you put several of them on your taskbar, you won't want them all to look the same.)
Then right-click it again and select "Pin to Start" or "Pin to Taskbar." Afterwards you can delete it from the Desktop.
This works with .txt (Notepad) files too. And with folders. If you have Adobe Reader, it works with .pdf files.
It also works with shortcuts to CLSID's (see Brink's tutorial on "Shell Commands"), such as
I don't know when it happened, although I suspect it could be due to the last set of updates I downloaded.. All I know is that for some reason, I cannot access my library folders.
Double clicking on the folders does absolutely nothing. I get no errors of any kind either. This is what I've done so far to try and fix the problem:
1) chkdsk /spotfix (no bad sectors found)
2) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth (the component store corruption was repaired, whatever that means)
3) sfc /scannow (all files verified successfully)
4) Deleted library folders and then reset to default (did not work)
5) Windows 7 library registry fix (did not work)
None of these worked, and I'm at my wits end. I can still access the actual information, by going to C:Users. But I'd still like to be able to use the library function.
I'm trying to delete all of my mp3s, but searching for them shows each file individually. Is there a way to get File Explorer to show only folders that contain mp3s?
I have folders named like "11a9591c2490188bbd3b" . I could not delete them as the deletion demands admin rights. But I am the admin of my system. What can I do to delete them?
What's the comparable way in Windows 8 to make all items in all folders as "list" pls. This is what I do in Win7.
1.open any folder 2.on the right with arrow down, pull down menu list,Details,Titles,Content. Choose list 3.on the left under Organize, pull down menu to Folder and search option 4.click on View tab 5.Apply to Folders 6.OK.
Any way to make all items in a folder appear as List.
