I tried to use location on the Bing weather app and it was over 100 miles out. Couldn't figure out how to solve this so uninstalled it.
Then I did something obviously stupid, I did a restore. I thought that by 'all apps' WIndows 8 did not mean programs, but it evidently does (a slight rewrite would make that clearer to those of us who don't identify all apps as including programs).
Ok, I had to reinstall programs, a nuisance but that's all. However, all my Bing apps are now gone.
They appear in 'Your apps' in the store as in my computer named DOUGW-PC but a search doesn't find them. Reinstalling doesn't do anything either. I can install new apps and they show up fine.
I have a sony vaio laptop which came with a pre-installed windows 8 OS. I recently upgraded it to windows 8.1. After the upgrade, I have observed that many softwares that are actually installed on the system are not listed in the apps list, such as Microsoft office, autocad, freemake, etc. It becomes really inconvenient to open any new file of these software.
In windows 8.1 start screen, if I go to the all apps view & sort by category, the first category is 'desktop'. What determines which apps are listed here? Only some of my desktop apps are listed. Can I edit the list? Likewise, if I sort by name, the first group of apps includes only a subset of all my apps - can I edit that list?
Since yesterday I noticed that the Bing News app crashes after I click on it. When I click on it, there's the normal animation of the tile flipping over and taking over the screen with the news icon in the middle. However, after 2 seconds the app crashes and brings me back to the Metro UI. I can still see the app open in the apps bar on the right but clicking on it keeps the app crashing. The Live tile is working properly but after I reinstalled the app (which didn't resolve the problem) it doesn't work anymore and there is no option to enable Live tile when right-clicking the app.
I didn't install any new drivers, software or updates (except for the Definition update for Windows Defender). All the other apps are working properly. Doing an SFC /scannow didn't find any integrity violations.
My specs: Windows 8 Pro with Media Center 64x (don't want to install 8.1 just yet) GTX 660Ti i5-3570K 8 GB RAM
Here's the log of the error I found in the Events log: App <AppexNews> is vastgelopen als gevolg van een onverwerkte Javascript-uitzondering. Hierna volgen de app-details: weergavenaam:<Nieuws>, model-id van toepassingsgebruiker: <Microsoft.BingNews_8wekyb3d8bbwe!AppexNews> pakket-id: <Microsoft.BingNews_2.0.0.308_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe> proces-id:<532>.
Since the latest Bing News app update came out, that can sync your settings across devices, mine wants to crash shortly after starting it. And this happens on multiple machines. I have managed to get into settings and turn off the sync of settings, turn off reading offline, and still no luck. It crashes every time. This even happens on a machine that just had Windows 8.1 completely reinstalled on it, and on my surface pro tablet which has had windows 8.1 on it for a while.
I have 4 Windows 8.1 systems and the Bing News app crashes after a few seconds to a minute on all four. It used to work fine so obviously, the settings (which are synced by OneDrive) must be corrupted.
Is there any way to clear the app settings? I tried uninstalling, rebooting, installing and that didn't work.
I tried turning off sync on all 4 machines, uninstalling the app, deleting sync data using the web, rebooting, and reinstalling but the settings just come back!
Today's Windows 8 update (from patch Tuesday this week) installed Bing Desktop. Now I have this ugly green desktop, and Bing does not show up in the installed applications.
I have Win 8 Retail Final Professional English x64
I have installed and uninstalled many apps from the Windows Store. But I have realized that, after having uninstalled some of them I didn't like, if I go to "Your Applications" and select "Applications not installed in this computer" I still see them like in a kind of "History" (like in the Internet browsers)
How Can I Remove The List Of "not installed apps" in Store ?
When I was on Windows 8 I could install an app from the store and it would automatically put a tile for it on the start screen. After upgrading to 8.1 it stopped doing that. Now after I install an app I have to search for it and right click and tell it to pin to the start. Is there any way to have a tile automatically put on the start screen after install with 8.1?
Is it possible to update the apps I already have installed from store?in windows 8 on store icon was showing the number of updates.in win 8.1 this doesnt work.
How do I remove (from the start screen) the text at the bottom that says, on mine "13 new apps insalled". I have opened them up, that way I was hoping it would go away, but it wont. This happened when I installed the Windows 8.1 update 1, yesterday.
Here is a picture of it : (look at the bottom)
It also says "new" at the right side of every app. I rather not have it like this at all. I know what new apps I have installed already.
My Windows 8.1 64 bit started forgetting the view settings from a folder. So if I go in a folder and I set it to List-View for example, whenever I close that folder and I reopen it the view is set automatically to Details view. And this applies to every folder in my computer except Desktop. It drives me crazy, especially in my pictures folders.
Also with this problem another one came.I can't set a program to open some files,so the file associations for some files is broken. For example i can't set qTorrent to open torrent files. It just won't open them and the files apear as white documents just like I hadn't had a Torrent program installed already.I find it weird that both problems appeared together.
I previously had to reinstall windows on my machine, because of this problems. It worked normal at the begging, but today these problems appeared again.I tried scanning SFC Scan with no result.
Update:I also just discovered that Metro apps are not working anymore...what the heck its wrong with my windows.
I've upgraded from Windows 7 PC to Windows 8 Pro (not clean install) today and I can't now view my personal files in the new apps screen. E.g If I go into the photo app it says there are no pics available. I thought I'd lost the data but when searching around I noticed a folder had been created on the new desktop which was the same name as my PC name in Windows 7. Clicking into this folder took me to Users folder -> and my folders which contain all the music and photo files etc.
If I launch Explorer, On the left hand side of the Explorer screen (where it displays the Library docs) I am unable to select any of these or drag files to these from the folder described above. Also, when connecting my iPhone, it asks if I want to import my pics. I know all of these have already been imported but it doesn't recognise this and tries to import them all again, I assume into the new location in Windows 8.
Is this something to do with permissions. I've used my hotmail account to set up as a new Windows 8 profile and this has Admin rights. Or do I physically have to copy he data to the new location where personal library files are held in Windows 8.
I retired from HP last week and I have my Outlook .OST file that I can't figure out how to view on my new PC, which also has Outlook 2010 pointed to my Gmail account
The Maps app that is on the start screen shows an aerial view of my neighborhood that is at least three years old. It says copyright 2014 but it is obvious the image is very old.
This is a new computer updated to Win 8.1. Does the app need updating?
I have copied my DVDs using CloneDVD2 to my Hard drive. What I do now to view them on TV using WD from my Hard drive. They are in lots of files/chapters instead of one movie format. I assumed once copied I could just drop them into my movie file location to view.
Windows 8 allow us to split the screen and see two metro apps at the same time. I miss the windows' windows ( windows without windows is quite stupid for me ), but I like metro. Is there any way to split the screen many times, horizontally and with different ratios? ( not only 80:20 )
I'm using Classic Shell to navigate and I go to the Apps folder. I have tons of apps installed it seams, Weather, Video, Travel, netflix etc.. i don't need any of these and wish to completely remove them from my system. I suspect i should be able to do this from Programs and Features and turning windows features on and off but I don't know where these apps reside.. I can't seem to be able to find any of them in the Windows features area. I also want to uninstall any unneeded apps that show up in the metro start page thing. Not just disable them, or unpin them.. I don't want them on my system at all.
I'm unable to install applications from windows 8 store. Now whenever I try to install, error is shown. But previously there was no any problem in installing. I use windows 8.
I have used the MPUI video viewer for several years on Windows 7 and Windows 8.0 without any problem.Last week I installed Windows 8.1 on my Lenovo laptop, and since that time, MPUI does not work. So I figured that maybe MPUI is no longer compatible with Windows 8.1, so I'll download a different media player from the Store. I downloaded and tried PressPlayer, Media_Player and Quick Media Player, none of which will play the videos that I downloaded from YouTube.
The media players just say that this video cannot be played. MPUI displays the initial picture from the video, but doesn't proceed like it did previously.why my videos stopped working after I installed Windows 8.1.?
Where are Metro Apps Installed. I know there is a folder in Program FilesWindowsApps but Are they User related or System Related? Or they are like Preinstalled and get installed on new account creation?
Also I see a lot of folder of the same Apps with different versions. Is it safe to remove older versions (folders)?
In windows 8.1, I installed the Lenovo Power Manager which is not yet available for this system, and I did it running it in compatibility mode, as described in the next link
Lenovo forums : Lenovo Power Manager in Windows 8 - Page 3 - Lenovo Community
and it got installed correctly, and seemed to work asking for a reboot that I did
The problem: I run into a BSOD and I believe it is due to this software (safe mode works ok)
So, as I try to unistall, and the uninstaller is called from "ADD or REMOVE PROGRAMS", all I get is again the message: "Warning : Cannot run on this system"
And of course, here there is not compatibility mode wizard .. How can I complete uninstall and clear this?
Alright, this might sound as a stupid question, but I'm not able to find some of my installed rograms (neither in Metro nor with the searching function at the top right corner). The only way I can find 'em is by going to the installed location. e.g. torrent
When changing file ownership to allow me access to a hidden log file, something happened that removed installed apps from the app store. They are not on the start menu, nor are they shown among "All Apps". I did some digging around and managed to find the folders these apps are stored in, but which file launches each app. I went to the App Store to reinstall them, but in each case the App Store told me I already have it installed. What I need to do to gain access to these apps.
I installed Windows 8 with the program PWBOOT in USB disk drive and some of the apps in the metro Start Screen they didn't installed. Also the Windows store app is missing so I can't download the apps from the Windows 8 store. What should I do to bring em there? I also have a Windows 8 disc. Can I write em without deleting all the third party desktop apps? If so then how?
I have a couple of 4GB usb pen drives and a 16 GB ADATA one.
When I want to boot from the Linux I have installed in the pen drive, do I have to go to F2, enter the bios and set it to boot from USB or can I tap F12 and do it that way. I have used the 3 major installers, Linux Live USB installer, UNetbootin and USB Universal Installer and cannot get Ubuntu or any distro to boot from this drive. I have formatted it as FAT 32 not NTFS.
I had some success booting from the 4GB pen drives with some distros but not always.
I installed Zorin OS which was great but it started to ask for a password which was never mentioned in the process so I had to delete it.
The question is, am I booting wrong to be making so many errors? I have a Win 8.1 OS with 6 GB ram.
I have 3 4GB pen drives and a 16 GB drive. The 16 is an ADATA and the others are Sandisk.
All I want is a live USB with persistence for updates. I found Ubuntu the easiest and Zorin equal to it except for the password issue.
Basically I had the original "user" in control panel that I used when getting my gateway laptop and I decided to make a new user with admin privileges for no apparent real reason and then I ended up removing the old user account.
Once I did this, a bunch of programs that I installed with my original user account stopped opening, so I uninstalled them and re installed them and they still aren't opening. They just sit in task manager and don't open - is there anything I can do to fix this or is my best bet to reformat [which I could do, but I have a lot of files and I don't have a backup external apart from online which would take a long time to back up with cause of uploading etc].
Also I've attached my system info screenshot as well
