I just noticed my contacts from my Live account are not the same as the ones shown in my Windows 8 mail app (People). Looking closer at the properties in my phone, I noticed that some say Hotmail and other say Verizon Backup Assistant Plus.
My question is how do I get all the ones backed up by Verizon but included in my Live account so show up on my desk top(Hotmail Type)? How can I convert the contact type from Verizon to Live?
I did a clean install of Windows 8. Of course, before doing the clean install, I backed up all of my data including the "Contacts" folder under my user name. The clean install progressed as expected (I've done clean installs many times previously). When I copied my information back, I also copied the contents of the Contacts folder back.
Now I want to import my contacts into the new People App. I have a live ID and everything seems to be working fine, except I cannot get my contacts imported. I've gone to the contacts folder and exported the contacts as a CSV file (there are only two export options, CSV and vCard). When I go to the People App and try to "import from a file", I get an error message saying my CSV file is NOT a CSV file. Just to make sure I tried all my options, I went back and tried exporting as a vCard file and when I try to import I get an error message saying there is an internal error.
I've searched the net and, from what I can find, I seem to be doing the right thing using a CSV file, but am not getting the end result.
I finally managed to import all my contacts from roadrunner and Live to Outlook, but the contacts appear under PEOPLE. How do I get them to the address book so that when I click TO: to send an email the contacts appear?????
I've been doing a little bit of cleaning of my contacts in People & Skype.
I have removed contacts from Skype, and they are gone from Skype. However, when I try and remove said same contact from the Windows 8 People App......there is no option to remove/delete.
I'm using Outlook as my mail program on Windows 8.1. I also am starting to use Photoshop Elements 12. In Elements I see a method to make a PDF of photos and email them to contacts.
Is there a way to export the Windows 8.1 Outlook contacts to the Contact list in Elements 12 ? or failing that is there a way to print the contacts so I have a hardcopy reference from which to enter the info into Elements ?
I used to have a Windows phone and attached my Facebook account to the Windows phone on my Microsoft Live account. I have since gotten rid of my Windows phone but then afterwards I permanently deleted my Facebook account. I bought a new pc with Windows 8.1 and logged in with my Microsoft Live account and saw that it kept all of my old contacts from Facebook and there is no way to delete them since I no longer have a Facebook account to delete them.
Is there a way to delete contacts that are associated with Facebook if I no longer have a Facebook account? I have an Xbox Live account associated with my Microsoft Live account so I do not want to delete my Microsoft Live account. Is there any way to delete my contacts without having to delete my Microsoft Live account?
Windows 8.1!!! Set up all email addresses in Internet Explorer in mail.google.com > Contacts. Wanted people in People app to be listed alphabetically so found I had to place the last name in the first name Google 'block' and the first name in the last name 'block' on mail.google.com That's OK. All contacts in the People app had their Skype info included. However, I added a Skype contact (for which I already had entered an email address) after I did the above but it didn't show up in the People app until the next day.
The problem was that now, this contact had two entries in the People app (one had only the email address and the other had the email address and the Skype info. The entry with the Skype info is titled by the Proper Name. The entry with an email address only was also listed in the People app - last name first. But now, I had two entries with the same name.
I tried to correct this by trying to delete the Name with only the email address (in the people app, it is now listed by its' email address, not its' Proper Name due to my attemp to correct the duplication. Couldn't do it - don't know why. So I went back into Google contacts and tried to change the 'duplication.' Ended up with a duplicate again - except that the duplicate (which I want to delete) is listed in the People app by its' email address - not its' Proper Name' like all the other contacts. Also, this entry does not have the Skype info associated with it.
I wanted to upgrade it manually to windows 8.1, so i used a usb keyboard to access bios settings and I disabled uefi. After reboot, i got a bootmenu which didn't booted in my usb installation. I messed up then with the bios, and after rebooting i couldn't even use the keyboard anymore. I am stuck now at the boot menu.
How do I perform the above subject while in Windows File Explorer in Windows 8. In Vista and other OS'ss I could easily find where to add a shortcut to the list of ALL PROGRAMS.
I realised you cannot search your computer with Windows Search disabled in Windows 8/8.1 Metro, I have looked for the entry in the Windows Features / Services but could not find it. (I previously turned it off, now I cannot see the entry).
I've just bought a new laptop with Windows 8.1 and have been playing around with the settings etc. and have a question regarding the Lock screen.
I have personalised the lock screen with my own picture but have decided that I don't like it and would just prefer to use one of the default pictures, but there doesn't seem to be anyway of deleting the picture I have added.
I've tried searching for the picture on the laptop but have had no success finding it. How delete this picture?
I can not boot my Toshiba laptop Windows 8.1 computer after I was attempting to resize partitions. I got in over my head. Now I'm stuck and cannot boot.
I believe the problem is I somehow created a second copy of my EFI partition. Now I have two "system" partitions of the same size.
Cannot boot, but got a command prompt. Ran "bcdedit" and got:
"The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The requested system device cannot be identified due to multiple indistinguishable devices potentially matching the identification criteria."
Other things I uncovered:
Diskpart> list partition Partition 1 System Partition 2 System Partition 3 Reserved Partition 4 Primary Partition 5 Recovery Partition 6 Recovery
(note both partitons 1 & 2 say "System" for type.)
I conclude that Partition 1 equates to Volume 2, Partition 2 to Volume 3. However there is no longer a "System" label on Part 2/Vol 3 once drilled down to details. Also its FAT32.
I am hoping/praying that I could "delete" one of the duplicate partitions. But scared to make any such move. Not sure where to go from here.
I have read that two reasons could cause restore points not to be created automatically:
services. msc not enabled 2-task scheduler off.
I cannot find system restore or restore points in either place and am not sure what to do in either. How to enable restore paints to be created automatically?
the new Task Manager I started to care about it after installing Windows 8. Normally my internet speed is only about 1 mbps (~8 mbit). Because of that, the task managers' "Network" bar shows wrong percents. I assume that that is because Windows reports wrong wired internet speed (100 mbps).
Is there anyway to change it so hopefuly I can see meaningful data?
I ran into a problem today where I entered in some details incorrectly to a hidden wireless network profile and then discovered that MS have removed the Wireless Network Manager so I couldn't delete or correctly configure that network as it would not get listed in the metro wireless interface.
After digging around on my machine I've discovered the wireless profiles are stored in
C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWlansvcProfilesInterfac es
Where the first sub folders list guides for respective wireless devices on you machine which contains xml files pertaining to the wireless profiles for the respective wireless devices. it seems same to manually delete the files or edit.
For a project I have to install Windows 8.1 64 bit on several machines including updates.
As you can imagine updating each machine individually can be extremely time consuming. I was wondering if there's a way to manually download all the latest windows update files and put them in the Windows 8.1 ISO, so that once Windows is installed on the machine it will be up to date. if I haven't explained myself correctly
This has only started recently when trying to reply to an email from the desktop or send a new email from the people icon, I start to type several words of the message, press the space bar to type the next word and the screen changes (flips back to show the icons) and the message or reply disappears.
So I just got my new Windows 8.1 computer. From the Start screen there is an app called simply People. It was great grabbing my address book from various Hotmail accounts and even connecting to Facebook. A couple of questions: How do I Back this up or Print it out? Also I use my Microsoft Fax program to fax documents but it will not recognize this as my address book.
I've sync'd my google contacts with the people contacts in 8.1. On initial setup everything transferred ok. To test the link I then added a new contact in google to see if it would sync with the people contacts. So far it hasn't. How often does the people app update with google?
What has happened but loads of emails has been sent out to most people on my address book , i clean my puter every time I use it , I have done the scanning and everything ...
I have 2 different facebook accounts, when I click "Add an account" in People App for the first time, it connected to my first facebook account. Then I remove this one by going to the online setting, and completely remove this account. Now I want to add my second facebook account but everytime I choose connect to facebook, this app automatically connect to the old one?
I have a new Dell laptop with Windows 8.1 - I work from home & connect to the internet via my home wifi network. The problem I have been experiencing is that my laptop connects to the internet at boot up but then disconnects for several minutes & then re-connects again. This coincides with the Network & Sharing Centre showing a number of Local Area Connections (numbered 3,4,5,6 etc) being created under Unidentified Public Networks. I have tried disabling the LAC's but they re-enable whenever I re-boot & I have the same issues again. My networking knowledge is very limited so how to rectify this issue.
I have purhcased an Asus N550 Laptop with Windows 8 installed already (so I have no CD) merely yesterday, and I believe that I have slipped up somewhere and made a fatal mistake.
Since it was new, yesterday, on the day of the purchase, I decided to update some drivers to keep them up to date, and I updated my Graphics Card (NVIDIA 745M) manually from the device manager. I proceeded to perform a restart and all went normally. This evening, I had to perform a restart because my McAfee AV had requested a restart for an update, and was I went to the restart button, I noticed that some Windows Updates were available, so I restarted. Upon startup, my laptop encountered an error with the updates, the error was along the lines of "video_dxgkrnl_fatal_error". From then on, whenever I started up my laptop, my Windows startup page (the metro screen), would not appear, and all I would get was a flashing screen at 1-2 second intervals, and my cursor would sometimes appear. Meaning, I can not get to my windows startup page.
I then restarted again and was introduced to the repair page, and tried to perform a system restore which for some reason, failed since it lasted almost an hour and a half - which to me, seems very abnormal for a laptop that was not older than 24 hours, so I performed a hard reset. After a while, I was reintroduced to the repair page, and this time, I have gone for a 'Reset' option so everything is restored to factory settings, and it is in the process of doing so as I type this. I am not sure what the outcome will be, but I hope that it can be restored to the point where these updates were not installed - as, like I stated earlier, my system restore failed.
Because I don't want Flash Player Utilities running at startup I have renamed the 2 files that run at startup:
C:WindowsSystem32MacromeFlashUtil_ActiveX.dll and C:WindowsSystem32MacromedFlashUJtil_ActiveX.exe
Somehow they got created again. The ones I renamed are still there but somehow the original files are back in the folder again.
I want this disabled! There are no references to this in any of the 'Run' registry entries and I don't see a Service for this either. How to prevent this annoying piece of garbage from recurring?
I use an internal data drive for most of my data. In win 8 the drive is E and I've created several folders and populated them with data. I then rebooted my machine to a Win 7 pro system and added a folder and some data to the E drive. No issues.
When I go back to Win 8 i can't see the folder and files I created on the E drive from Win 7.
I haven't gone back to Win 7 yet to see if they are there, but I would be willing to bet that I will see them in Win 7. How do I resolve?
I am unable to create any Home Group as in my PC with win 8.1 pro, I get message that " To create or join a Home group your PC's network location must be set to Private". This I am unable to set as when i tried by going to pc setting-- network-- connection-- wifi connected, there I do not see option of "Find devices and content" to put it on. I do not know how to change PC network location.
