This has only started recently when trying to reply to an email from the desktop or send a new email from the people icon, I start to type several words of the message, press the space bar to type the next word and the screen changes (flips back to show the icons) and the message or reply disappears.
View 7 RepliesFor more than a week now, the above situation have been occurring. I have "scoured" the web and tried a lot of "solutions" and none as at yet have normalized my situation.
I am suspecting that I might need a registry solution, since I cannot refresh my installation- I upgraded to win 8 from win 7 online.
Also, the Skype app crashes almost as soon as it finishes loading and returns to the start menu. But, there is a sign it is still running and whenever you click on it, it trips off again.
I have uninstalled and re-installed several times, ran the apps troubleshooters many times, checked that the time service is running, synchronized this and that, etc to no avail.
My Mail Live tile do not have the option to turn on/off live update but the Calendar and People tiles have it yet none is updating.
What has happened but loads of emails has been sent out to most people on my address book , i clean my puter every time I use it , I have done the scanning and everything ...

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just noticed my contacts from my Live account are not the same as the ones shown in my Windows 8 mail app (People). Looking closer at the properties in my phone, I noticed that some say Hotmail and other say Verizon Backup Assistant Plus.
My question is how do I get all the ones backed up by Verizon but included in my Live account so show up on my desk top(Hotmail Type)? How can I convert the contact type from Verizon to Live?
I did a clean install of Windows 8. Of course, before doing the clean install, I backed up all of my data including the "Contacts" folder under my user name. The clean install progressed as expected (I've done clean installs many times previously). When I copied my information back, I also copied the contents of the Contacts folder back.
Now I want to import my contacts into the new People App. I have a live ID and everything seems to be working fine, except I cannot get my contacts imported. I've gone to the contacts folder and exported the contacts as a CSV file (there are only two export options, CSV and vCard). When I go to the People App and try to "import from a file", I get an error message saying my CSV file is NOT a CSV file. Just to make sure I tried all my options, I went back and tried exporting as a vCard file and when I try to import I get an error message saying there is an internal error.
I've searched the net and, from what I can find, I seem to be doing the right thing using a CSV file, but am not getting the end result.
I've sync'd my google contacts with the people contacts in 8.1. On initial setup everything transferred ok. To test the link I then added a new contact in google to see if it would sync with the people contacts. So far it hasn't. How often does the people app update with google?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWindows 8.1!!! Set up all email addresses in Internet Explorer in mail.google.com > Contacts. Wanted people in People app to be listed alphabetically so found I had to place the last name in the first name Google 'block' and the first name in the last name 'block' on mail.google.com That's OK. All contacts in the People app had their Skype info included. However, I added a Skype contact (for which I already had entered an email address) after I did the above but it didn't show up in the People app until the next day.
The problem was that now, this contact had two entries in the People app (one had only the email address and the other had the email address and the Skype info. The entry with the Skype info is titled by the Proper Name. The entry with an email address only was also listed in the People app - last name first. But now, I had two entries with the same name.
I tried to correct this by trying to delete the Name with only the email address (in the people app, it is now listed by its' email address, not its' Proper Name due to my attemp to correct the duplication. Couldn't do it - don't know why. So I went back into Google contacts and tried to change the 'duplication.' Ended up with a duplicate again - except that the duplicate (which I want to delete) is listed in the People app by its' email address - not its' Proper Name' like all the other contacts. Also, this entry does not have the Skype info associated with it.
I've been doing a little bit of cleaning of my contacts in People & Skype.
I have removed contacts from Skype, and they are gone from Skype. However, when I try and remove said same contact from the Windows 8 People App......there is no option to remove/delete.
Am I stuck with these contacts?
Is there a way of copying my Contacts from an iPhone 5 to the People app in windows 8.

Is there a way to export the Windows 8.1 Outlook contacts to the Contact list in Elements 12 ? or failing that is there a way to print the contacts so I have a hardcopy reference from which to enter the info into Elements ?
I used to have a Windows phone and attached my Facebook account to the Windows phone on my Microsoft Live account. I have since gotten rid of my Windows phone but then afterwards I permanently deleted my Facebook account. I bought a new pc with Windows 8.1 and logged in with my Microsoft Live account and saw that it kept all of my old contacts from Facebook and there is no way to delete them since I no longer have a Facebook account to delete them.
Is there a way to delete contacts that are associated with Facebook if I no longer have a Facebook account? I have an Xbox Live account associated with my Microsoft Live account so I do not want to delete my Microsoft Live account. Is there any way to delete my contacts without having to delete my Microsoft Live account?

Is there a way to have my Suddenlink email service linked to the mail button on windows 8. When I click on it I get a message that says Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed. Normally, she clicks on the "Mail" icon to get to her email, but now when she clicks on the icon it doesn't go to her email and instead it goes straight to her desktop. I tried clicking another icon; the "weather" one, and it too goes to the desktop. She told me she downloaded a couple games from iWin a few days ago and I noticed a new toolbar in her browser so I tried disabling that, but no change. I've checked what the default browser is, Internet Explorer (what she normally uses). I also tried making Chrome the default browser but still no change.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a new Win 8.1 user trying to setup a more normal looking desktop on my wife's new laptop.
In an attempt to populate the desktop toolbar with apps on the start page, I found it can't be done as explained in the tutorial. Either when I touch/hold the app icon, or right mouse click, the app is checked and the bottom application bar appears. However, on the app bar my only choices are: "Unpin from Start", "Uninstall", or "Find in Start". I'm not given the option of "Pin to taskbar". I also don't see the choices: "Open new window", "Run as admin", or "Open file location" that I see in an example under that tutorial.
I'm running this account in admin mode. The most recent Windows update was 5/2014, with no new updates available when checked today. Is there something wrong or a control panel setting I need to enable to see the other choices?
For some reason now pretty much all my tiles have this down arrow at the right bottom. How can I remove them?

But after couple of days, the icons from some of the office apps automatically got erased from the tiles and now it looks so ugly. I tried re-pinning apps on start menu but it didn't work. I also tried sfc /scannow but it was in vein. How to fix it and get the icons back on the tiles?

It was great grabbing my address book from various Hotmail accounts and even connecting to Facebook. A couple of questions: How do I Back this up or Print it out? Also I use my Microsoft Fax program to fax documents but it will not recognize this as my address book.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI notice a short flicker from desktop icons when you press the "win+d" short cut. Sometimes some application windows also flicker when you use this short cut.
I guess the reason is some kind of refresh for the icons, actually it seems to be the same behaviour when you use the context menu on the desktop (right mouse click) and use the command "refresh".
It can easily be seen when you are on the desktop with all it's icons and have a small window open and then press win+d a couple of times. The Icons refresh and therefore flicker. That should be smoothed out.I notice this behaviour in Windows 8, Win7, XP.
This is no problem with a similar command in OSX or Ubuntu.
I have done a lot of searching to find a way to add a photo to my manually created contacts, in the People app in W8.
I have come to the conclusion that, for whatever reason, this is not possible.how to do this
I have 2 different facebook accounts, when I click "Add an account" in People App for the first time, it connected to my first facebook account. Then I remove this one by going to the online setting, and completely remove this account. Now I want to add my second facebook account but everytime I choose connect to facebook, this app automatically connect to the old one?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI normally only use 2 apps: the Mail and the Video, and even after I close these two apps, when I take a look at the Processes tab in the Task Manager, they are still there, there's no more CPU usage but they keep using Memory, which is usually a lot. So every time I want to actually close an app I have to open up the Task Manager, go to the Process tab and kill them off there, otherwise they'll keep using my memory.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue concerning the default Mail app from Win 8.1. I have set up two mail accounts: my default Microsoft account and an extra Office 365 account. Notifications are turned on for all mail and mails are downloaded as they arrive. But I'm not getting notifications for the default account. Might I add that synchronization is not automatic and I need to open the app to get the new mail. The second account works okay, though.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I first installed Windows 8 there was the IE tile, with lighter blue background and white icon. Then I installed Chrome, at first start I used it as my default browser, mostly in Windows 8 mode, sometimes in desktop mode, but it always had the grey background tile with the Chrome icon. I wanted to make new tiles for my non-metro apps with OblyTile, and because I use IE sometimes I made one for that too, but after that my Chrome tile became a standard non-metro style tile with blue bg and smaller icon, using it first opens the desktop then the metro-mode chrome, and the original IE tile (I kept it from the beginning) reversed to the original, blue bg, white icon style, but Chrome is the default browser.
reverse Chrome to the gray bg tile and make it open the metro-mode without first opening the desktop?
