I just bought my 15 year old son a laptop with Windows 8. I was able to set up my Admin account and his "standard" account, and put a time curfew and limits on his account, but when I logged in as him, I saw that he would be able to create another account which would pretty much defeat the whole time limit thing! Is there a way to prevent all but admin accounts to be able to create more accounts?? I'm pretty technically savvy but this new Windows 8 is not as easy to navigate as the previous versions!! (I wouldn't mind a "classic view" either, if that exists!)
I use the snipping tool to get a screenshot and save it to my desktop but it never appears on my desktop? I do another snip and save it to my desktop and it says "capture already exists" - but its not on my desktop?
I can view it in my menu under "recent items" but the home of the file is shown in the photo. Why is it not on my desktop as the file sting says it is?
I have a few Temp logons recently, and then had to copy my profile over to a new user account. Creation of the new user account seems to have gone pretty well, once I signed into my Microsoft account, everything associated with it is as it should be.
However, there a few of the older "Users" listed under This PC, which are not shown at the manage accounts page. Is there a simple way to delete the old accounts that are not in use. Deleting hem from file explorer did not work.
This PC: I'd like to delete "ADMIN 2" and "Andrew"
Can I Remove User Accounts in Windows 8? - Windows 8 -
This is pretty insane because all I had to do was enter an email address; no name, no password, nothing. Now, all I have is an email address, and of course no name and no password. So, exactly how am I supposed to enter a name and password din SQL server, for the security to work, or whatever, when these things don't exist, and there's no way to create them.
I've been working on this project for weeks now, simply because every time I need to do something, I literally can't do what I need to do.
The REAL problem is that I have to use SQL Server to login to Windows. My Windows 8 works fine, and my SQL Server works fine, but they won't work together. That's the entire problem that I'm dealing with.
So I was selling my computer to my grandmother, and my dad took it over to her house to set it up. He somehow managed to completely lock everything down. He created an account for her, but we never once were able to log into it. But he also deactivated me as an administrator.
So now I have my computer back, and I am trying to set up the accounts, but I cannot do anything as I am no longer an admin. From what I have gathered, im up the creek without a paddle!
How do I create an administrator account without an admin accoutn already in place?
I signed into my new HP laptop with the account I had for windows 8 on my desktop. This account is now the administrator for my laptop. I do not want to keep the laptop and I want to remove the account from the laptop. I've followed many instructions but cannot delete the account as it doesn't give me the option to delete this account.
I was successful to create another user account than mine, hotmail based too.
Then I disactivated Skydrive in the registry according to the following. How to Get Rid of SkyDrive in Windows 8.1 Explorer. It does the same as this tutorial but set the value at 0 rather than f090004d.
I did set it back to f090004d.
I can no longer create a new account, hotmail or local. It goes through all the first process, the final screen is 'Let's start' but end with a blue screen and hangs forever.
I am wanting to transfer videotapes from a digital camcorder to my new laptop that runs windows 8. Any video capture devices that are compatible with windows 8.
When I first started this job I was the first user on a new PC with Windows 8. I was asked to set up a Skype account which I did by creating a new Windows Live e-mail since I didn't want to use my personal one for business. I had continual problems with some conflict (I never found but believe it was caused by Skydrive) that caused my Live account to continuously need a password reset. After much frustration I set up a Skype direct account and closed the Live account.
Today I tried to go into the Windows Store to download an app and it's still asking me to log-in with the old, closed Live account. I have literally been sitting here for an hour and a half trying to find a way to log-in to the store with a different user and e-mail. There is nothing. I tried Microsoft live chat support which was really no support at all. I printed out and tried the instructions I found on this site for signing in with a different Microsoft account but it doesn't work as nowhere am I given the option on the screen to sign in with a different account. It shows my Live account with no option to change to another and a password box with the message that too many attempts were made to log-in blah blah blah reset the password. But, the account is closed so this is impossible to do (yes, I even tried that method but it tells me my account is closed).
Microsoft's instructions to do this by managing user accounts does not work as there is no user account on this PC associated with that e-mail address. I log in daily with a local administrator account and the only other account is Guest. I log in to Skype with a Skype (not Live) account. I log into Outlook e-mail with a business/local e-mail account. The Skydrive account is also no longer used as we switched to Dropbox.
I tried doing the instructions to clear the Windows Store cache (run>wsreset.exe) but that did nothing to remove this account.
Any information about how to remove an e-mail account associated with the store, that is no longer a valid/open e-mail account.
I am using windows 8 pro OS. I have only one local account on my machine. My account is already in Administrator groups. I have checked that.
My problem is that I am not able to create/change any user account from control panel. After traversing to Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts.
There are all the different links named as below: Change your account name Change your account type Manage other account etc..
However when I click on any of these links, nothing happens at all !!!
What could be the possible reason of this? Window is updated, I am able to do other stuff that only admin can do for example: installing/uninstalling software, running system tools etc. Moreover I am able to make changes to user accounts from Computer Management.
I am new to windows 8 and having trouble with my account alias, I recently purchased a new laptop, when I created my alias email address I used a pop 3 email (ntlworld.com) unaware that that these email addresses cannot be used, I am trying to add a Hotmail.co.uk address but it is saying, "For security reasons, you need to verify your primary alias before you can add another alias" I have received an email in my[url]... email and it says if the address is correct I do not need to do anything, but it can't be verified.
I want to eliminate the password on the lock screen so my wife can get on the computer while I am out of the house. When I type "gpedit" in Run, I get the message, "Cannot find gpedit.msc. Make sure you typed the word correctly and try again."
Is there a way to access Local Policy Group by using the Windows Explorer?
I want to remove the mandatory login at the lockscreen. I don't need passwords on this computer.
recently i changed my windows 8 laptop's password but now somehow i forgot what it was and i cant enter my laptop iam so in trouble how can i reset or remove my password from startup screen?
My computer recently began requiring me to use password at startup. I had previously disabled.
I went to NETPLWIZ as suggested elsewhere (Log On User Account Automatically at Windows 8 Startup)
However, there is no box to uncheck that says "Users must enter username and password to use this computer." (see attachment)
What am I missing? I have also checked the Password Requirement on Wakeup in the Power settings and that shows "No" and the "Ctrl-Alt-Del" option is also not in place.
First of all i was unable to configure my advanced power options, i.e- create new power plan, choose what power button does or closing lid does? I restored the settings & restarted but couldn't solve it. This is what i get while trying to fix this:-
Somehow, then i thought of creating another admin account and config the settings there, to see if it works out. But, through Control Panel>User accounts i couldn't manage existing account and neither i am able to create new account.
Another thing i noticed is when i go to PC settings through windows 8 new feature - charm menu, i couldn't find the Users menu.
I have a dell laptop that I want to gift to a family member. When I set it up new I linked it to my hotmail account so when it boots up it shows my email address and I login. I want to keep the laptop just the way it is but remove my login and email and assign a new administrator. Once with windows 7 I messed with the admin account. What is the proper way to remove me as a user and replace the login and administrator without loosing or changing any of the files or settings on the computer?
I recently had to update my brother-inlaw's new laptop to the 8.1 version. He doesn't use email so when I was prompted to enter an email address when you installed he update, I just put in a random email address and password not knowing I'd need that info to sign into the laptop every time you turned it on. Once I finished the install, I didn't restart it to check to see what it would do. Now he tells me when the laptop starts up, it wants the password for the account I entered when I put in the random account during install. He tells me you cannot change the user name (email address) so I'm at a loss here on what to do to get him logged onto his laptop. Is there something I can do to get that info changed or at least get him logged into the computer so that info can be changed? I have created a new email for him to use but it does no good when I can't even get into the computer.
I recently got a new computer and I will be giving my computer away to a friend, but the problem is I don't know how to make her the admin. She has a live email already so I just want to switch my login information to hers. I already moved all my files and folders to my new computer.
When installing my Windows 8, I put the PC name as "Usmaan" and the account name as "UsSy" but after the installation and having used the laptop a bit more.. I changed the account name to "Usmaan".
The problem which I have is that although the account name has changed to "Usmaan", I still see the name "UsSy" every now and then when doing some development or when I for example check the path of files.. it will says C:...UsSy...file.txt
I should also state that when I was installing Windows 8, I tried specifying the account name as "Usmaan" but it complained that I cannot have the PC Name and and the account name the same.... hence why I put it as UsSy.
How do I change the UsSy name to Usmaan permanently?
Just got a new laptop with windows 8, not familiar at all with the OS, but accidentally misspelled the account name. Obviously, this has little impact on functionality, but I would like to change the name so any files I have from my other computer get put in the proper location without having to correct the username typo when switching back and forth. Basically, how can I go about changing the account name on my computer. There are no other users, I just set it up today.
