How To Install Windows 8 Without A Disk
Sep 15, 2014
Recently I bought a new hard drive to replace my old one because it failed and just stopped working, I have a Sony vaio laptop that was pre- installed with windows 8 and assuming the activation key is in bios because I have only a windows 8 sticker at the back. With that out of the way the real issue is how i install windows 8 without a disk since I never got one with the laptop when I bought it. I got a spare computer I can use to create a disk or a Installing through an USB, but at this moment I don't have any empty disk available I heard its possible through USB so am planning on using this method. So how would I create an USB that I can use to install windows 8. Lastly, if I did make a USB would i have to enter an activation code or will the one in the bios work.

A week ago I did a completely fresh install of Windows 8 64 bit and everything was working great. When I booted up my laptop on Wednesday I noticed it was running terribly slow. When I opened task manager I saw that disk usage was at 100% despite the combined total of data transfer being 0.8MB/s.
The problem occurs constantly if I set my laptop power mode to balanced but only occurs intermittently at high performance. I've run a chkdsk and everything is showing up fine and bizarrely there is no slowdown whatsoever on safe mode.

I have a copy of Windows 8.1pro 64 bit which I run on my main computer, I have an old laptop which is about 7-8 years old, I'd like to install a copy of Win 8 for test purposes and mess around with for a few months.
The laptop is so old it won't let me install 64 bit, is there a 32 bit version on the disk hidden away I could install or are they totally separate disks?
Is it possible to download a copy which would work for 30 days without entering a serial number or even an old beta copy.

'Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI Systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT Disks'
What can I do now as I don't have a version of windows installed anymore...

On January 31st, I bought a product key for Win 8 Pro paying $40. I downloaded the Windows.iso that came with the purchase. Afterwards, I burnt the Windows.iso to two separate DVD Roms, opening the ISO with Windows Disk Image Burner.
When one of the two DVD Roms is opened, the program setup.exe presents itself, together with about 9 folders and files. (Please see the attachment, showing the contents of the DVD Rom.)
Setup.exe is obviously the trigger for installing Win 8.
My question is: Will this trigger (setup.exe) install the full Win 8 operating system, using what is stored on the DVD Rom, plus perhaps elements downloaded from the internet during the installation process? Or must I have installation elements on my hard drive, downloaded during the purchase, in addition to the DVD Rom?
In other words, is the DVD Rom burnt from the ISO the "full" Windows 8, the only thing I need apart from my product key, to install Win 8?

I just bought a Laptop with Windows 8.1 it does not come with an install disk and the supplier flat-out refused to provide one, pointing me to the recovery partition saying that was all I needed.
The recovery program just reinstalls, losing data and does not have Windows trouble shooting options as found on the Windows 8 install disk. How do I create a Windows 8.1 install disk.

I would like to try Windows 8 Pro on my PC, I've currently installed Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit) with SP1 on my PC which takes about 7.8 gigs of disk space. So, my question is that how much disk space does a normal clean installation of Windows 8 Pro (32-bit) takes?

I have an HP Pavilion TouchSmart with windows 8. Model number 14-b109wm. Yesterday my laptop was working perfectly. This morning when I tried to turn it on I got a message saying, "Boot device not found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk." I clicked F2 for system diagnostics and ran two tests for the hard drive. The "quick test" said "passed." So I ran the "extensive" test and it said "not installed." I dont know what any of this means or how to fix it. I called HP and the lady barely spoke english. She said the hard drive needs to be re-seated. Again, dont know what that means. The F8 and F12 keys dont work either.

Is this possible? I have a code and I've just been researching/trying to work out how to do this for the past few days with no real success. As far as I'm aware I could make my own bootable USB/disk but the windows 8.1 updater doesn't work on Vista. I thought I could maybe make the USB with my brother's PC which runs 8.1 but the program asks for the code and I'm not sure whether that would lock that code to his PC or not.
Failing that I thought I could maybe download the iso (I think that's what it's called) and make the USB without the official windows 8.1 program though I'm not sure of that either.

Once you have upgraded Win XP, Vista or 7 to Win 8, you need to be able to start, recover or re-install Win 8 with a recovery disk or original installation disk, preferably a disk that will boot the computer despite the fact that the Windows operating system has been knocked out. (I'm thinking of a situation where even Windows Safe Mode won't provide relief.) If you made a Win 8 Upgrade disk from the ISO provided on purchasing Win 8 online, you will have only that. Can the Win 8 Upgrade disk recover/re-install Windows 8 when it breaks down? If so, how can the Win 8 Upgrade disk be modified to boot the computer in order to start recovery or re-installation of Windows?

sometimes when testing new systems I have to install Office 2010 from scratch (I have a VL enterprise version so activation isn't an issue).
However Windows update then every time prompts for about 1.5GB of updates and fixed.
How to "slipstream" these into my office install disk - or at least store these updates manually so I don't have to keep downloading the same stuff over and over again.

I'm running windows 8 on a partition so I use it mostly for gaming. I have 115 GB on the partition, and when I totaled all the files in my Bootcamp drive it comes to a total of about 80 GB, 50 from games, 20 from the OS. However, I'm constantly getting error messages saying that my disk is almost full and that 105 gigabytes have been used. I've tried CCleaner and disk cleanup but nothing big is found. So why would it be using space greater than what can be seen in the disk when using explorer and is there any way to fix this error (if it is one)?

so a few years ago i bought this pc and as Always i make 2 partitions one for backup and the other for windows and all the other stuff.
So today i wanted to reinstall windows because the Disk 0 partition fitness was 0% and randomly freezing. as my other half was like 70-80% fitness (rated by Speedfan). But this never happened to me, usually Partition C and D Always were on the same "disk #" and now they are separated and i just cant get them back.
now i want to put them back together and make one whole HDD, any way to get them back to eachother?
with this ill add some pictures, since a picture says more than 1000 words. And Edit, maybe usefull. i've noticed my partitions turned into 2 different "bus numbers" Bus number 0 and bus number 1

I originally built my computer with two 1 TB hdd as RAID1 with Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit as the OS.
The boot files eventually became corrupted. I could not reinstall Windows 8 on the RAID 1 array. So I then purchased two 2 TB HDD and created a new RAID 1 array which Windows 8 readily loaded onto.
I then added the two original 1 TB HDD to the computed to use for photography and media storage. They also showed when booting my computer as a separate RAID 1 array, but were listed as "repair." I went into the RAID BIOS and separated the array. I connected only one of the 1 TB HDD, and the drive was the "E" Drive in my computer, but I was unable to access it. "E: is not accessible. Access is denied." Disk Management showed the drive as DISK 1, but as two partitions: System Reserved 350 MB NTFS Healthy (Active, Primary Partition) and 931.17 GB NTFS Healthy (Primary Partition). I used Diskpart to create a Primary partition and format the disk. That HDD now works fine. Unfortunately I did not backup the data on that HDD, which I would like to have.
I did try the second mirrowed 1 TB HDD on the computer before formatting the first and was able to access all of the data on the HDD.
Now after formatting the first 1 TB HDD, I added the second 1 TB HDD from the original RAID 1 array back onto the computer, wanting to retrieve the data on it. This HDD does not show on My computer and is not assigned a drive letter. However the HDD is listed in Disk Management as DISK 2 and partitioned into System Reserved 350 MB NTFS Healthy ( active, Primary Partition) and 931.17 GB NTFS Healthy (Primary Partition). Looking for retrieving the data on this disk, copying it to another HDD, and then creating one partition on this HDD? How to assign the HDD a drive letter. I would like to format this HDD after copying the data, and have my computer assign it a drive letter so that I can use it.

I just got a new laptop, a Lenovo X230, for which I paid extra to have the OS on it as Windows 8 Pro.
So--now I have it, and Win 8 Pro 64 is installed and activated on it. I am a legal owner of Win 8 Pro.
However, I would like to do a clean install of Win 8 on the computer, to have it free of bloatware, etc. (In fact, I would like to set up a multi-boot with Win 7, and perhaps even triple boot with Xp as well. (I have installation media and my product keys for XP and 7 though, so those are not really a problem.)
The computer came with no discs at all. There is a procedure to make recovery disks. I may do that, but I think those will be to restore the computer to how it came from the factory, and therefore not usable for a clean install.
I don't see my product key for Win 8 anywhere. Not on the computer, not on any kind of card that came with it, etc.
I looked at the tutorial here for clean install of Windows 8, but it requires an install disc and product key. I have neither, although I am a legal owner of Windows 8.
Is there a way I can create (from my installed Windows 8) a win 8 install disk, that can be used for a clean install? Or a link to download one? Is there a way I can get my product key?

some have been successful converting GPT partitions to MBR. I'm still trying to get TrueCrypt to run on my Fujitsu Win 8 laptop with GPT. TrueCrypt does not currently support GPT, and it looks doubtful if it ever will.
I have spent some time creating image files and restoring them with True Image 2013. I have not found a way with that program to get Win 8 to be formatted as MBR.

I'm running Windows 8. 3 days ago my computer crashed coming up with a message that it needed to restart. It then came up with a message "Repairing disk errors. This may take over an hour", and continued to display that message for 3 days straight. Now it has gone to a Boot Menu. The menu displays two tabs Boot Menu/App Menu, with the options under Boot Menu
1. Windows Boot Manager
2. SATA HDD: Hitachi
I selected Windows boot manager, and the screen went black for a few seconds then went back to the same menu. What has happened and how do I get back to Windows??
