Maintenance :: Check Backup Disk Space Error Windows 8.1?
Jan 1, 2014I am having trouble with a message in Action Center in Windows 8.1. It is saying "Check Backup Disk Space" and I cannot hide the message. I had Windows 7 File Recovery setup with Windows 8.1, but now after the upgrade, the message is "stuck." Can this be fixed? These two links explain it perfectly:

Is there any way to reset the password? I tried downloading some windows password unlocker on my laptop, but couldn't ever get it to boot from the usb on his laptop.

Dec 17, 2013EaseUS ToDo Backup Free 6.1 emergency disk won't boot from USB.
That's the long and the short of it. I changed the boot priority in BIOS to boot the USB first. I got it to read the USB key one time when plugged into the USB 2.0 port. While the busy circles were twirling I got a "please wait." Then I got a command prompt flicker, then a screen from Windows saying it did not boot properly.
So I turned off Secure Boot. Made the USB boot stick over again. Now I get nada no matter what. I hold down the power button to shut down. When I power back up it just goes to the regular logon screen.
I was hoping to be able to boot off the stick to avoid buying a 5 pack of CDR just to burn one disc. At least for now to have my system backed up.
Maintenance :: Error Creating Backup Image / Not Enough Disk Space
Aug 12, 2013Since a week is it impossible to make a Win7 Backup Image (Control Panel).
This is the feature that got removed in 8.1 but now (on 8) I'm still using it in case I need to restore the OS.
The message shows this:
"Not enough disk space" but I have 360GB free on one disk and 150GB on another. The image is calculated at 67GB and it worked each time until now.
All OS updates installed.

Disk Management Not Start Virtual Disk Service (VDS)
Jul 19, 2014Unable to start Disk Management. I tried the following without success:
- Check file integrity
- Repair with DISM
- Start the Virtual Disk Service and Volume SHadoy Copy manually and set them to Automatic and Manual (it starts, but Disk Management cannot connect to it)
- Disable Firewall and Antivirus
- Verified that my system is malware free
- Tried opening it in Safe Mode

Disk Usage - Getting Error Messages Saying That Disk Is Almost Full?
Jan 9, 2014I'm running windows 8 on a partition so I use it mostly for gaming. I have 115 GB on the partition, and when I totaled all the files in my Bootcamp drive it comes to a total of about 80 GB, 50 from games, 20 from the OS. However, I'm constantly getting error messages saying that my disk is almost full and that 105 gigabytes have been used. I've tried CCleaner and disk cleanup but nothing big is found. So why would it be using space greater than what can be seen in the disk when using explorer and is there any way to fix this error (if it is one)?

May 7, 2014so a few years ago i bought this pc and as Always i make 2 partitions one for backup and the other for windows and all the other stuff.
So today i wanted to reinstall windows because the Disk 0 partition fitness was 0% and randomly freezing. as my other half was like 70-80% fitness (rated by Speedfan). But this never happened to me, usually Partition C and D Always were on the same "disk #" and now they are separated and i just cant get them back.
now i want to put them back together and make one whole HDD, any way to get them back to eachother?

Disk 2 Not Seen Under Computer But Is In Disk Management
Aug 26, 2013I originally built my computer with two 1 TB hdd as RAID1 with Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit as the OS.
The boot files eventually became corrupted. I could not reinstall Windows 8 on the RAID 1 array. So I then purchased two 2 TB HDD and created a new RAID 1 array which Windows 8 readily loaded onto.
I then added the two original 1 TB HDD to the computed to use for photography and media storage. They also showed when booting my computer as a separate RAID 1 array, but were listed as "repair." I went into the RAID BIOS and separated the array. I connected only one of the 1 TB HDD, and the drive was the "E" Drive in my computer, but I was unable to access it. "E: is not accessible. Access is denied." Disk Management showed the drive as DISK 1, but as two partitions: System Reserved 350 MB NTFS Healthy (Active, Primary Partition) and 931.17 GB NTFS Healthy (Primary Partition). I used Diskpart to create a Primary partition and format the disk. That HDD now works fine. Unfortunately I did not backup the data on that HDD, which I would like to have.
I did try the second mirrowed 1 TB HDD on the computer before formatting the first and was able to access all of the data on the HDD.
Now after formatting the first 1 TB HDD, I added the second 1 TB HDD from the original RAID 1 array back onto the computer, wanting to retrieve the data on it. This HDD does not show on My computer and is not assigned a drive letter. However the HDD is listed in Disk Management as DISK 2 and partitioned into System Reserved 350 MB NTFS Healthy ( active, Primary Partition) and 931.17 GB NTFS Healthy (Primary Partition). Looking for retrieving the data on this disk, copying it to another HDD, and then creating one partition on this HDD? How to assign the HDD a drive letter. I would like to format this HDD after copying the data, and have my computer assign it a drive letter so that I can use it.
Windows 8 Serial Key Backup
Oct 23, 2013My mother bought a samsung notebook, which came with Windows 8 original version installed. There is a adhesive for windows 8 confirmation on it. I can send a video of it, but I wanted to change it to Windows 7, installed on my computer that I was used to. So, I made a backup of my Windows 7 and tried to install it on my notebook.
Unfortunately, I deleted all from the notebook and forgot to take the serial key or to change my partition table from GPT to MBR, so I can't install Windows 7.
I only want to recover my Windows 8 serial key, so I can re-install it , change the partition table to MEG and install Windows 7!
Backup Of Old OS On Windows 8 Computer
Apr 11, 2013My dad recently had his old vista computer die. I decided (after another discussion here on the forums) that Id backup his old OS, move it to the new computer, and then upgrade it to the newer windows. The problem I am having is that once I got the backup onto a partition of the new computer it gets a 0xc000000f error so I cant boot into it and do the upgrade. I tried all the normal bootrec options (rebuildbcd, fixboot, fixmbr) but none of them worked and I ran a chkdsk. I tried putting in the vista install media to repair the OS so I could boot into it and do the upgrade but the vista boot disk didnt recognize the OS (I think windows 8 might have something to do with that).

Sep 15, 2013I installed Windows 8 and noticed it still had a version of Windows 7 Backup & Restore.
When I installed Windows 8.1 RTM, it looks like they removed it. I've been using it on Windows 7 x64 for a while and it has saved my skin a few times.
I did a Google search and basically found that if you install Windows 8 first, then upgrade to 8.1 RTM, it leaves Backup & Restore available. I want to install 8.1 RTM directly, is there any way to install Backup & Restore or keep it somehow?

Dec 2, 2012I am trying to use Windows Backup in Windows 8 on my HP Envy h8-1414 to my external HD and I get a message saying something like, "Your last backup did not complete." The reason given is The Device is Not Ready or something like that. The error code is 0x80070015. Yet from the Desktop/Computer I can read and write to the external disk with no difficulty.
I don't want to go much further with the set up until until I can make a good backup.

Aug 6, 2013Win 8x64. Just got a UAC flag that Windows backup app wasn't working (see attached). Looking at Windows 7 File Recovery in the CP, all it shows is "Backup or Restore Your Files" at top and the rest of the page, which usually has some choices, is blank. Never seen that before. Rebooted to be sure.

The problem is, how do you install it again? I cant find it in the search tab nor I dont know of I can still open it but I know that it is in fact complete. I re-installed Windows and I have some drives that are setup in a raid configuration which has a system image I created some time ago after I performed a fresh install of windows 8.1. However, I can't seem to get recovery to locate it.
Is there a way of restoring from this backup to save my having to install each programme from scratch? The file is 141 gig and is an ADI file with an XML and disk image text file.

Jun 26, 2014I own an OEM Machine which is from Acer.
To ask what is probably well known amongst IT pro's; does a system image backup solution (and consequently a restore from that image if needs be) work on OEM PC's, like a desktop from Acer, actually work without problems, and would I get a proper bootable and working machine after restoration.
Brief scenario - I have used Acronis TI 2014 (Or even the Windows 8.1 system image utility) to create an image of my C: Drive/EFI Partition/Recovery Partition - and backed it up to an external USB HDD.
My OS crashes for whatever reason and I can't boot.
I then either use my Acronis bootable media CD (which I've tested and boots despite all the secure boot/UEFI/GPT mania going about users like myself) to reinstall the Acronis disk image.
OR I use a Widnows 8.1 bootable disk with the ISO (which I've tested to boot) to reinstall the Windows created system image. (I could also use the recovery drive I created in Win 8.1, which just to add, however irrelvanat it might be, includes my OEM factory default partition which was copied as part of the recovery flash drive creation)
Would either of those restore solutions give me a reasonably likely working PC again - taking into account all the stuff I don't understand like the Windows 8.1 OEM key being on the motherboard (which I would understand in terms of Windows activation and authentication could have a negative impact on restoring images over an OEM installed OS and it's partitions)....

Does Microsoft backup data like icloud for Metro apps? I have a windows 8 pro tablet, but would like to use more Metro apps, but only if backup and restore is as easy as ios icloud or Android titanium backup.
