View 3 RepliesUnable to start Disk Management. I tried the following without success:
- Check file integrity
- Repair with DISM
- Start the Virtual Disk Service and Volume SHadoy Copy manually and set them to Automatic and Manual (it starts, but Disk Management cannot connect to it)
- Disable Firewall and Antivirus
- Verified that my system is malware free
- Tried opening it in Safe Mode

I'm running windows 8 on a partition so I use it mostly for gaming. I have 115 GB on the partition, and when I totaled all the files in my Bootcamp drive it comes to a total of about 80 GB, 50 from games, 20 from the OS. However, I'm constantly getting error messages saying that my disk is almost full and that 105 gigabytes have been used. I've tried CCleaner and disk cleanup but nothing big is found. So why would it be using space greater than what can be seen in the disk when using explorer and is there any way to fix this error (if it is one)?

Now when I am trying to recover from the same cd it is getting stuck at 40 % showing error. I searched for this error and got something as such recovery disk can work on OEM hd. As my old hd has crashed how can I recover over there. Is there any system that dell provide me with necessary operating system so that atleast I can use my system.
View 7 Replies View Relatedso a few years ago i bought this pc and as Always i make 2 partitions one for backup and the other for windows and all the other stuff.
So today i wanted to reinstall windows because the Disk 0 partition fitness was 0% and randomly freezing. as my other half was like 70-80% fitness (rated by Speedfan). But this never happened to me, usually Partition C and D Always were on the same "disk #" and now they are separated and i just cant get them back.
now i want to put them back together and make one whole HDD, any way to get them back to eachother?
with this ill add some pictures, since a picture says more than 1000 words. And Edit, maybe usefull. i've noticed my partitions turned into 2 different "bus numbers" Bus number 0 and bus number 1
I originally built my computer with two 1 TB hdd as RAID1 with Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit as the OS.
The boot files eventually became corrupted. I could not reinstall Windows 8 on the RAID 1 array. So I then purchased two 2 TB HDD and created a new RAID 1 array which Windows 8 readily loaded onto.
I then added the two original 1 TB HDD to the computed to use for photography and media storage. They also showed when booting my computer as a separate RAID 1 array, but were listed as "repair." I went into the RAID BIOS and separated the array. I connected only one of the 1 TB HDD, and the drive was the "E" Drive in my computer, but I was unable to access it. "E: is not accessible. Access is denied." Disk Management showed the drive as DISK 1, but as two partitions: System Reserved 350 MB NTFS Healthy (Active, Primary Partition) and 931.17 GB NTFS Healthy (Primary Partition). I used Diskpart to create a Primary partition and format the disk. That HDD now works fine. Unfortunately I did not backup the data on that HDD, which I would like to have.
I did try the second mirrowed 1 TB HDD on the computer before formatting the first and was able to access all of the data on the HDD.
Now after formatting the first 1 TB HDD, I added the second 1 TB HDD from the original RAID 1 array back onto the computer, wanting to retrieve the data on it. This HDD does not show on My computer and is not assigned a drive letter. However the HDD is listed in Disk Management as DISK 2 and partitioned into System Reserved 350 MB NTFS Healthy ( active, Primary Partition) and 931.17 GB NTFS Healthy (Primary Partition). Looking for retrieving the data on this disk, copying it to another HDD, and then creating one partition on this HDD? How to assign the HDD a drive letter. I would like to format this HDD after copying the data, and have my computer assign it a drive letter so that I can use it.
What does Convert MBR Disk to GPT Disk technically means? What happens in background? Do we lose data in partitions?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought 8 Pro a few months ago and installed it on my desktop pc. I then purchased the upgrade to get Media Center.
I have spare parts to build another pc and was wondering if the 8 Pro disk is "not in use" and can be installed as when I did the Media Center upgrade I had to enter a new product key.
I have (had) a dual boot with Windows 8.1 and win7 and I was using EasyBCD to edit the boot order. Now, when I try to reboot, I get a blue screen - saying 'RECOVERY - Your PC needs to be repaired'. I have a bootable USB recovery medium for win 8 but the problem is that I can't boot to it and fix the problem because I can't access the boot menu in my BIOS. The usual F12 option to select the boot device isn't showing up no matter what I do. I read that it has something to do with Windows 8's hybrid shutdown system. Is there any way to get out of this 'hybrid shutdown' so I can once again access the boot menu?
View 1 Replies View RelatedA close friend of mine has problems with the hard drive, I reckon. His disk usage it's always close to 80% reaching 100% several times, making impossible to accomplish even the easiest things like listening music or watching SD videos. I've checked the processes and evey thing seems right, cpu usage is very low. I can't figure out what's the problem. The notebook is new, 2 weeks...
I'm attaching a screenshot of a crystal disk report, it's in italian but you should be able to understand it!

Never used the flash drive. used whatever was on the computer. Whether or not to keep the recovery stuff I put on the flash drive? Just wondering if its a waste of a perfectly good flash drive, seeing as I never used it when I reset.
I have attached the Windows 8 hard disk from my broken laptop to my external usb hard disk device and windows 8 say format the disk as it does not recognise the file system how do I get around this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently I bought a new hard drive to replace my old one because it failed and just stopped working, I have a Sony vaio laptop that was pre- installed with windows 8 and assuming the activation key is in bios because I have only a windows 8 sticker at the back. With that out of the way the real issue is how i install windows 8 without a disk since I never got one with the laptop when I bought it. I got a spare computer I can use to create a disk or a Installing through an USB, but at this moment I don't have any empty disk available I heard its possible through USB so am planning on using this method. So how would I create an USB that I can use to install windows 8. Lastly, if I did make a USB would i have to enter an activation code or will the one in the bios work.
View 5 Replies View Relatedsome have been successful converting GPT partitions to MBR. I'm still trying to get TrueCrypt to run on my Fujitsu Win 8 laptop with GPT. TrueCrypt does not currently support GPT, and it looks doubtful if it ever will.
I have spent some time creating image files and restoring them with True Image 2013. I have not found a way with that program to get Win 8 to be formatted as MBR.
I was recently experimenting with partitions and i had to assign 50 GB of disk space to a partition. Sadly, I noticed that after I deleted it I can't add it back to my main hard drive's space. How I can do this so I have all my disk space again?

I followed the instructions for Win 8 & the cleanup took less than a minute.
Randomly my disk usage will rocket up to 100% and sit there locking up my computer and freezing things that i am doing. problems started right out of the box when i got my laptop. CCleaner seemed to lower the amount of times it happens, but it still occurs. I've ran virus/malware scans there is nothing. so its ether windows doing stuff on its own randomly then consuming my whole disk or its having compatibility issues with some program that i have running. this is interfering with gaming and school work. I will include pics of multiple instances of it locking up. I can also include a list of the programs I have on here.
i have an
Acer Aspire V3 772G 9653
intel core i7 - 4702MQ
Nvidia Geforce GTX 760M
8 GB DDR3 memory
1 TB hard drive
all while missing from my computer , in task manager saw something about some .Net framework doing stuff, some language don't know what optimization, then triggers also the antimalware service, windows update, something called tiworker (windows modules installer) that survived 3 restarts already and also disabling windows update
I do no t want any of that.
What can I do, there are tens , maybe one hundred as far as I know, services. A mire.
Will I be able to still run a windows machine in 2013 with a really bare minimum services?
Does switching to bblean as shell will get rid of many of them? But most surely don't because shell and services two different meals. At least that I will try it to see for myself.
I need to retrieve a couple legacy files that are on a 1.44 disk. I bought a USB 1.44 drive, but win 8.1 doesn't see it in Win explorer; when I went the "find new devices" route (in Devices), it didn't see the Usb 1.44.
I went into bios and enabled some sort of "recognize legacy usb", but that had no effect.
How do I get this thing recognized and installed - it didn't come with any drivers.
For some reason my disk usage is always at 100%, it never spikes its just a constant 100% and i think its hurting my performance, is there any way to lower this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday my beloved Win 8.1 gave me a surprising license deactivation, meaning the license just suddenly became void despite working properly for some few months. I suspect two reasons:
- I changed GPU the day before (but it's not like the problem occurred right after changing GPU)
- during system boot right before occurrence of the issue Windows was performing (routine?) HDD autorepair. This could suggest that some system files were damaged in the process. My only drive is an OCZ Vector SSD.
Obviously, my license is genuine.
I did try slui.exe 4 - nothing loads after selecting region. The loading icon just keeps running. I also tried sfc /scannow. It said some files were corrupted which could not be repaired. I'm attaching the log file. I also tried performing autorepair from Windows CD - to no avail. I also ran the MGADiag I found somewhere, but this version seems incompatible with 8.1, as it says "Validation unsupported OS".
I don't even know if buying a new license key (which I obviously would like to avoid) would work for me. An activation suddenly disappearing is just so... windows...
I had some problems with Ubuntu, and wanted to recover my Windows 8 MBR, so that I can boot back into it, and not a corrupted version of Grub2. Anyway, I burned an iso for the Windows 8 recovery disk, and the disk is fine since it works on another computer. However, it doesn't work on the computer I want to use it on. The recovery disk says
Code: Loading files...
And completes a loading process. Then, blue squares go along the top of the screen. However, it suddenly turns off my computer in the middle of the process. I've tried this multiple times with the same result.
How to post a screen capture of a full screen Disk Management window as I've done many times before. He said none were marked as Active.
I opened Disk Management (full screen) on my Windows 8.1.1 Pro X64 EFI/GPT system so I could post a screen capture showing him where it would show up.
I was very surprised when there was no Active flag shown anywhere. I know it used to show up.
What happened and when did this change occur. Must have been a Windows Update that screwed it up.
It's still there under Windows 7 on a different computer (BIOS/MBR):
For first 4 days my Windows 8 runs perfect. But after when i started my PC i get about 15 min. freeze. Later i saw in my task manager, when lag happens my Disk Usage go to 100%, i didn't saw any process, what have some big usage. My processes was only at 0 MB - 0.1MB and disk usage was at 100%.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 8. 3 days ago my computer crashed coming up with a message that it needed to restart. It then came up with a message "Repairing disk errors. This may take over an hour", and continued to display that message for 3 days straight. Now it has gone to a Boot Menu. The menu displays two tabs Boot Menu/App Menu, with the options under Boot Menu
1. Windows Boot Manager
2. SATA HDD: Hitachi
I selected Windows boot manager, and the screen went black for a few seconds then went back to the same menu. What has happened and how do I get back to Windows??
Having no fun with the Win 8.1 - call it downgrade. Had problems from the start. I've had Win 7 for some time. I bought Win 8 and an SSD and did an upgrade from 7-8 on the SSD with no problems using Paragon Migrate OS to SSD - worked very well. This left me with Win 7 on a 320 gig hard drive and Win 8 on an SSD. I didn't touch Win 7 after that until the Win 8.1 downgrade which left me with an unstable Win 8 OS. When trying to boot into 8.1 I was getting very slow response, odd startup of some programs, lockups, etc. I tried to run safe mode (recovery) in Win 8 to see what I could do to fix, but it was very hard to get into and not much use when I finally did. The last time I tried to get into safe mode in 8.1 the computer booted up into safe mode for Windows 7. Since then restarts are in Win 7, not 8. The boot into 7 rearranged the drive letters and the Win 8 SSD became an NTFS (Healthy active, primary partition), no boot, page file, etc. C: = Win 7, E: = Win 8. Since then I have not tried to start Win 8 - not sure how. (See attachment).
having Win 7 . I would like to keep it available and updated while also having Win 8 as an option.
Is there a decent start-up software for choosing which system to boot up?
Is there a way for me to repair Win 8 (disk E) so that it is bootable? The third question is whether or not I can boot up a Linux OS (Cinnamon) onto a partition on a disk and play around with it - with the same boot up software?
Perhaps a related problem was that an external storage drive had some how become unusable during the upgrade - since repaired with chkdsk /f (Gparted error log attached). I don't know if this was the primary reason that Win 8 was running so poorly. Before it was repaired it showed as a Raw disk J: and E: Win 8 disk was not shown in Computer or Disk Management. When J: was shut down E: became visible again. All disk show now that J: was fixed with chkdsk.
After putting my computer to hibernate and powering it back on, my disk usage would stay at 100%. All the transfer speeds are around 0.1 mb/s and I'm not sure what could be causing the 100% disk usage.
Another thing is that it windows notifies me to scan my hard drive for errors, which I have done, but this keeps repeatedly happening.
