I have an HP Pavilion TouchSmart with windows 8. Model number 14-b109wm. Yesterday my laptop was working perfectly. This morning when I tried to turn it on I got a message saying, "Boot device not found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk." I clicked F2 for system diagnostics and ran two tests for the hard drive. The "quick test" said "passed." So I ran the "extensive" test and it said "not installed." I dont know what any of this means or how to fix it. I called HP and the lady barely spoke english. She said the hard drive needs to be re-seated. Again, dont know what that means. The F8 and F12 keys dont work either.
I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 15R, which I bought 5 months ago from Best Buy. Yesterday I shut down the computer normally, but when I try to restarted, after Dell logo appeared, on a black screen appeared the message: "Check media..". After a few seconds, on a black screen a new message was shown: "No boot device found. Press any key to reboot the machine".
I've looked on the internet and I saw it's a common error and everybody solved it with "Windows Boot Manager" as a first choice in UEFI Boot List Option. My problem is that I don't have this option. I have only two options:
1. UEFI Onboard LAN IPv4
2. UEFI Onboard LAN IPv6
I press F9 to setup the defaults, I changed to Legacy mode, but no results.
My (12-year-old) son's computer won't boot. It's a Dell Inspiron 17" running Windows 8, bought from Costco in July 2013. When I turn it on, Dell logo comes on and then in upper left it says "Checking Media [fail]", then "checking media" again, then "No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine". I insert a USB recovery drive (it was made for my Toshiba that runs Windows 8.1, but it should work anyway, right?).
I choose US keyboard layout and it then opens into Recovery Environment. I choose Troubleshoot → Refresh Your PC. Message appears "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again." I go to Troubleshoot → Startup Repair, which runs and then says "Startup Repair couldn't repair your PC." I then go back to Troubleshoot → Command Prompt and run chkdsk on Windows drive (c). It says "Windows has checked the file system and found no problems." Dell would probably tell me it's a hard drive failure and tell me to buy another one.
I can not found Imaging Device option , due to which my integrated webcam is not working ... I am Using Dell inspiron 5520 , I have tried millions of things ...
I tried to install 32 bit Windows 8 in my friends laptop through bootable usb. It has win7 preloaded. I tried for the dual boot. But when I select the partition drive it said that windows cannot be install in that drive because the selected drive is GPT partition style. How to install Windows 8 os in that GPT partition style hard drive.
I've recently replaced my secondary HDD in HP Pavillion dv7 (primary is SSD@W8.1) and as soon as I booted up computer, I got error "no bootable devices found". The first thing that I tried out was bootable USB with Windows 8.1 whereas I ran "automatic repair" several times, without any luck.
Then I opened up command prompt under advanced menu and ran:
None worked, probably because of "element not found" error. I also tried with diskpart where I manually selected (see screenshot) SSD system partition for active one, but still without any luck.
I also created bootable Minitool Parition Magic USB and ran Rebuild BCD from there and it still didn't work.
I bought a new computer in April, and Windows 8 lasted for about 8 weeks before refusing to start. I managed to get into a dos enviornment and copy my data (about 7700 photos). Who knew that I still remembered xcopy!
Anyway that whole sad story is here:
FILEBCD ERROR CODE: 0xc0000034
I'd prefer to not have to reformat everything and start from scratch (though now that I've ignored Costo and Dell's advice to write off my pictures and do that at the start it is at least an option I am willing to consider).
So I've been playing with bootrec to try and fix my
FILEBCD
ERROR CODE: 0xc0000034
Problems. Not that I know a anything about this process. So what I did was:
First my computer when bought came pre installed with Windows 7. As soon as Windows 8 came out I upgraded to Windows 8. My system is BIOS not UEFI. I have about 3gb ram and 500gb hdd drive 2.20 ghz processor. Windows 8 runs really smoothly. So recently 2-3 days ago I decided to dual boot Ubuntu with Windows 8. Before when I had Windows 7 I dual booted it with Windows 8. So now I thought about dual booting with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. The Installation process was fine until I take out the installation usb with Ubuntu and whenever I try to restart it the PC would hang on the oem screen for a while which is ridiculously long.
Then when I would boot into Windows 8 and sign in I would get a notification message saying the last storage device you plugged in isn't found. I went to the device manager in Windows and it would say an unknown device has been found and even if I tried to Uninstall it would come back again. I tried searching for updates but nothing came up. I googled it and got no results. What annoys me the most is the PC hanging on the oem screen. Right now I fresh installed Windows 8 so it's the only OS running at the moment. But I want Ubuntu 12.04 LTS because of git, ssh and all the server side stuff. I have also posted the error screenshot for more info.
How can I solve Playback & Record device not found in windows' sound?
Sound driver status in device manager still has no conflict and Realtek Audio manager can detect only plugged in jack. I have tried to reinstalled audio driver without any conflict but still nothing in windows' sound.
If I try to restore by windows restore point, would the problem solved?
My hard disk crashed. I have a recovery cd created on the time of purchase. I bought a new hard disk for this purpose. Now when I am trying to recover from the same cd it is getting stuck at 40 % showing error. I searched for this error and got something as such recovery disk can work on OEM hd. As my old hd has crashed how can I recover over there. Is there any system that dell provide me with necessary operating system so that atleast I can use my system.
I just bought a lenovo laptop, which came with preinstalled Windows 8.
When I turn it on the first thing I see is: EFI network 0 for IPv4 (20-89-84-23-c3-45) boot failed Checking media (Fail) EFI network 0 for IPv6 (20-89-84-23-c3-45) boot failed
And then a blue screen: Default Boot Device Missing or boot failed Insert recovery media and hit any key Then select boot manager to choose a new boot device or to boot recovery media
I have been experiencing problems trying to back up to external hard drive this week and keep getting an I/O Error with various error messages including 0x8007045D My Hard Drive is "G" and I can see it through my computer no problem and I also have my ITunes library on it and the ITunes music is working fine.
I am getting a message in Action Centre saying my Back Up did not complete successfully and then I have the option of Try to Run Again or change back up settings. If I select Try to Run again windows cannot find the disk or network location and if I change settings "G" does not appear. It seems Back Up has detected an error on my "G" which is preventing it from running the back up.
Also in Disk Management I am prompted to initialise a disc before logical disc manager can access it so I select MBR and I get I/O device error and disk 1/G is unknown/not initialised.I have tried powering the external drive off/on and also disconnecting it from the computer but no difference and at present I cannot save anything to the external hard drive. There is a previous back up already on the hard drive but this is not accessible at present.clearing this error so I can back up again without loosing what is stored on the hard drive in particular my ITunes library.
on my computer with windows 8 format as I am. Dvd format to format I've installed disk, but I erased or something during the installation, format the error output. The computer BEGAN to GIVE the following ERROR :
GIVEN WARNING
Error: no boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed. </b> <img class="decoded" alt="http://i.hizliresim.com/W2jNzN.jpg" src="http://i.hizliresim.com/W2jNzN.jpg" />
I was listening to music and surfing net on my Windows 8 running HP 650 laptop, when suddenly everything froze.I restarted the laptop by hard pressing the power key. But now at the start-up, the laptop is showing "No OS was found on Boot Drive, please install OS and try again".
When i used the windows 8 DVD for refreshing/resetting it, it says can not refresh because the drive is locked. i tried running linux from a live image, but that linux also does not list my HDD when i use GParted to check.
I also tried doing a fresh installation from my Windows 8 DVD but when it asks for location to install Windows to, it does not show any drive!.
I have attached the Windows 8 hard disk from my broken laptop to my external usb hard disk device and windows 8 say format the disk as it does not recognise the file system how do I get around this.
I reinstalled windows 8.1 on my Samsung NP530U3C-A10EE. And now the problem this that I can't boot it without usb stick that contains windows installation files. I can boot up windows and remove the usb stick evertything is working perfectly, but if I try to boot up win without usb, it gives error "Operating system not found. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart". VOLUME C: is one where windows are installed (SSD), System Reserved is the system partition that windows create automaticaly (SSD), volumes D: and F: are my hdd volumes D: is empty & F: is stored with my personal files (photos, music etc.)
Anyway, I'm curious about making file shortcuts between hard disk. Example, real folder is in D: drive. I want to make a shortcut for that particular folder in E: drive. Is this possible?
I got a new Toshiba Satellite L50-B notebook with Windows 8.1 64-bit installed. As I need to go a special place, I passed the notebook to a IT guy and have the whole disk encrypted using DiskCryptor. The guy told me that he cannot boot the OS, even he entered the correct password. And one more nice thing. The guy did NOT make recovery discs first!
Since the hard disk is encrypted I cannot boot it. Also I cannot do a system recovery. I booted the notebook into Linux and copied all the content in the recovery partition to a USB drive.
Now, I would like to know if I can get my machine up and running again. I don't mind all my content will be lost as it is a new machine.
How to make a set of custom recovery disc out of the content in the recovery partition? Do I need to format my hard disk in UEFI mode? if so, how?
I ahad updatedmy wife's laptop acer spire 5740 G from windows 7 to 8 and then updated to 8.1. She did not like os and asked me to revert back to 7. After running setup I formated the drivve C containing windows 8. But now computer doesnt boot and I tried to reinstall teh system but I cant see my hard disk- Setup runs till where do you want to install your OS and then I cant find my hard disk
I have put a 120Gb Intel SSD in my laptop, done a fresh install of Windows 8 from the supplied recovery DVD's. Then upgraded to Windows 8.1 through the Windows store, installed Photoshop 7 and Kingsoft Office and a couple of very small other programs. Everything is working fine. Great. I have hardly any docs music etc on this machine (they are all on my server).
I checked my hard drive usage and discover that I have used 75.3Gb and only have 31.2Gb left. C: partition is 106Gb. I know that the recovery DVD's created restore partitions and they can be seen in disk management. No worries there, they are only a few Gb and make up the total usable disk space (120Gb or so)
So I have been looking for where the bloat is. I have enabled viewing hidden files, and added up all the folders sizes on the root of C: It comes to 44Gb. It doesn't add up to anywhere near the total that I am being told is used 75Gb. So what is using the additional 31Gb or so? and how do I find it?
I have attached a screenshot showing properties of "all in c:/" and properties of "Local Disk C"
My hard disk was always full (itunes/picasa filling it with multiple backups etc); so decided to upgrade to a whopping 1tb. I bought the HDD and a cradle; and have created a clone of all my files and settings onto the new monster using an application. I want to copy all my settings across - Virtual DJ takes best part of a day to configure for example.
Downside is, the new disk is not bootable; and I cannot make it bootable however I try.
I have made the partition active using "diskmanger"
I have gone to the drive and typed in admin mode in command prompt:
g: cd/boot bootsect g:
I have also tried:
Bcdedit /import C:BootBCD.
This hasn't worked, so tried this:
Bcdedit /set {bootmgr} device partition=G:
TBH - don't really understand the commends, just trying everything I can!
i have the same problem, it gives me the same error, "Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. The partition contains one or more dynamic volumes that are not supported for installation."
I tried to make partitions on my hard disk and then tried to reboot the system, but it fails to reboot, error 0xc0000225 (winloader) on blue screen. BIOS sees the harddisk. I can also load the recovery program (hp), but it provides me only 1 option - to make system recovery to factory settings and losing all I have on my hard disk. Can it be somehow possible to recover win 8 and start it without factory settings recovery and losing files?
I use a gmail POP account to get my emails from my ip.
I want to be able to save an email to my local hard drive as txt or htm
When I tell EI 11 to Save as.. .txt, the file is unreadable.
When I save it as an htm and open it I'm sent to the gmail login but gmail seem to hang for a long time at login. I don't get to the inbox at all and need to close IE. How to save web mail to my hard drive?
It always fails to Clone/copy my current hard that has bad sectors, to a new hard disk. My present HDD is a 320GB and its health is really bad. I bought a new 500 hard disk and tried to clone and copy the whole HDD. I tried Paragon HDD Manager, O&O disk image and other two Software. All of them failed to clone or copy my old hard disk to new one.
What is the best solution. Paragon, copied data partially and gave an error at 80%. I tried few times and the same thing happened
