View 9 RepliesI just got a new laptop, a Lenovo X230, for which I paid extra to have the OS on it as Windows 8 Pro.
So--now I have it, and Win 8 Pro 64 is installed and activated on it. I am a legal owner of Win 8 Pro.
However, I would like to do a clean install of Win 8 on the computer, to have it free of bloatware, etc. (In fact, I would like to set up a multi-boot with Win 7, and perhaps even triple boot with Xp as well. (I have installation media and my product keys for XP and 7 though, so those are not really a problem.)
The computer came with no discs at all. There is a procedure to make recovery disks. I may do that, but I think those will be to restore the computer to how it came from the factory, and therefore not usable for a clean install.
I don't see my product key for Win 8 anywhere. Not on the computer, not on any kind of card that came with it, etc.
I looked at the tutorial here for clean install of Windows 8, but it requires an install disc and product key. I have neither, although I am a legal owner of Windows 8.
Is there a way I can create (from my installed Windows 8) a win 8 install disk, that can be used for a clean install? Or a link to download one? Is there a way I can get my product key?
I have tried disabling the UAC. Creating a new administrator, enabling the Built in admin account, taking ownership of the files...
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 16GB USB flash drive that I will plan to format and download the Windows ISO file to. I wondered if I would be able to reuse the flash drive after installing Windows? Would I be able to add other files to the drive or does it have to remain strictly a Windows install flash drive? In the event that I needed to, would I be able to download Windows again just as long as I keep the product key?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMicrosoft Windows 8 System. When I first started by computer I didn't set up any administrative passwords or accounts since the computer is shared by my family members. However, when I go to download/install any files from the internet - files with a .exe extension - it will download the file and then give me the message:
You may not have the necessary permissions to use all the features of the program you are about to run. You may run this program as a different user or continue to run the program as the current user.
Below this is the option to choose current user (HOMEPClbaxter) or run the program as the following user with a box for user name and password. In the user name box the word Administrator is present. I never set up a user name or password when I first started using my computer so I can't enter anything into either box.
When I choose the option for current user the boxes for user name and password become unavailable, but after clicking ok I get an error message saying This installer require admin access, try again.
What I can do to correct this without undoing all the files and settings I have on my computer.
I just uninstall my AMD because it keeps crashing when I start a game that use it. But after that, I can't re-install AMD 7450/7650 graphic driver that was supplied by Dell for my laptop. I install it with custom installation and only check the AMD Display Driver and Catalyst Control Center. The CCC installed fine, but not with the display driver. On installation, it just kind of skipping 70% of the progress bar and I would get the "installation complete - warnings occurred during installation"
I can still see the old driver which is AMD 6600M and 6700M series in device manager. Whenever I tried to open CCC, it shows "AMD Catalyst Control Center cannot be started. There are currently no settings that can be configured using AMD CCC." Now I'm stuck using integrated Intel HD Graphic 3000.
My laptop is Dell Inspiron N4110
4GB RAM
Windows 8 Pro
Intel Core i5 2410 @2.3GHz x64bit
I installed 8.1 pro over my 8 pro installation with this file:
MICROSOFT.WINDOWS.8.1.RTM.X64.ENGLISH.DVD-WZT
When I click setup and use default key XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB it installs fine and reboots.
Then after reboot it asks again for key but when i type in it says We couldn't verify the product key. Please check your installation media.
I've tried a number of other keys and nothing works. What am I doing wrong?
I just installed Win 8 (from my computer's cd/dvd drive). Clean install on a new hard drive. However the file manager shows that I do not have a cd/dvd. I also checked the device manager...it shows no cd/dvd). Apparently this has been a common issue with win 8.

I have a Hyper-V VM, and during the setup wizard I chose to install OS later.
I added DVD drive to it's hardware, and added the DVD drive to the boot order.
I put the retail Windows XP disc in the drive and start the VM, but it doesn't see the disk and eventually I get the error "Boot failed" for every boot device, and then finally "No operating system was Loaded. Press a key to retry the boot sequence...".
In setup for the VM, I see that I can "Specify the media to use with your virtual CD/DVD drive", which is an "image file". Does that mean it has to be an ISO, not a physical disk?
If so, any good way to make an ISO from my retail Windows XP Pro disk? It looks to me like Windows 8.1 File Explorer doesn't do it.
I installed an OEM version of Windows 8 on a formatted, Active Primary partition on an external HDD. After approx 3 minutes into windows my screen went black. I had to hold down the power button to exit. Trying to boot back into Windows8 from the boot menu, Windows attempted to start with the circle going around, but again a few seconds later, black.
These are some of the solutions I have tried but to no avail:
...Tried a different partition on the same physical external HDD. (Note: previously I had created an additional partition on my computer's C: and installed.) Black.
...Updated Video Drivers
...Checked if the drive was activated (SLMGR.VBS /DLV, then /ATO (Activated)
...Did first, a "Refresh then a Reset (both took me into windows but a short time later, black)
...While Black I tried a Ctrl, Alt, Del attempting to get to the task manager, which did not work, thinking I could try an inline install from the DVD.
...Booted into Windows 8 Safe Mode (F8 from Windows 8 boot option).... this was ok. It kept me in Windows.
When reverting back to Window7, the File System on ALL drive partitions, Computer's C and all externals, had to be checked for consistency before Windows 7 would boot up. Not sure why but once my screen goes black in Windows 8 somehow all my other partitions, Computer and Externals, are compromised.
I wanted to set up dual boot for Windows 8. I created a partition with enough space to load windows 8 from an ISO file.
However, after creating the bew volume, windows 8 displays a message that the partition is dynamically loaded. I have deleted the partition and re-created it with the same result.
I don't remember seeing an option for dynamic creation.
In a previous attempt< I have a partition(Q), which cannot be deleted, don't know if this is a problem.
I purchased a Windows 8 Pro licence through a classified advert on another forum in Sept 2013 and now since Windows XP is no longer supported I decided to update my OS. I thought I got a good deal on the licence and when I went to try download an official Windows 8 file I couldn't. I contacted Microsoft who informed me my licence is a valid Windows 8 Pro VL licence. They were unable to provide me with a physical ISO to download from and told me to ask the person I purchased it from... who of course has since disappeared.
So I downloaded the Windows 8 Pro x64 ISO from MSDN, installed great, product activated perfectly, my old pc is running and booting fast and I actually like it. However when I try to update the scroll bar just constantly scrolls left to right and the progress bar shown at 0%.
I have googled, and deleted the folder called the DOWNLOAD folder in SoftwareDistribution following advice online, however this still does not fix the problem. Occassionally I have got the files to download after the 0% progress says different, and when it comes to install these update files, nothing happens.
Is it because I downloaded a dodgy OS version from MSDN? it is the 915417.iso that I used.
Also can I update to Windows 8.1? When I installed the first few times I tried to update through the Windows Store. it said I require updates. Some files might have updated, I did a "shut down and update" option once and since that the option of installing Windows 8.1 has disappeared.
An IO error when I try to do a clean install. And it switches back to 7 due to an unknown error when I try from the upgrade assistant.

I have ASUS S550C, with win 8 preinstalled. I wan to install win 7 along with win 8 and make a dual boot system. From win 8 i tried to launch the win 7 installation on a free NTF partition but while rebooting win 7 is stuck at 'Starting Windows".
View 2 Replies View Related1. I have currently two hard drives plugged into my computer that I'll name (A) and (B)
2. Before the problem :
(A) was partitioned half into a windows ultimate 64 bit and half into windows 8 Pro 64 bit
(B) was partitioned into one windows 8 Pro 64 bit partition.
3. I am currently running on (B) but it's connected and I can see (A)'s file and interact with some but obviously not those protected.
So what happened is I started experience some disk usage issue so I did :
-I put the paging file size to my ram
-I changed the power settings
-I ran a dskchk (no errors found)
-I removed the file indexing
-I removed the paging file size
Nothing really worked so I thought of unplugging (B) which didn't worked so I thought it might have been the multiple partitions that was causing the problem.
So I went into aomei partition assistant, formatted window 7's partition and merged it with windows 8.
Now when I boot my computer on drive (A) it still me the choice between windows 7 and windows 8
If I choose 7 it gives me a black screen saying something is missing (which is normal since the partition has been formatted)
If I choose 8 it takes a long time to load gets me to the log-in screen where my icon has disappeared but my username remains.
If enter the wrong password it still recognizes it's wrong.
None of the two buttons at the bottom works (ergonomics? and exit)
Login in loads for a while and then either black screens me or leaves it hanging without the loading icon.
Safe mode leads to a black screen
Auto repair doesn't find any errors
And try to refresh my windows 8 tells me to go into the actual drive of the OS which I do believe I'm on.I'd like to keep as many files as possible and I didn't even want to refresh for a while because I was afraid of losing my applications.
I have a new laptop Dell with Windows 8 on it. I can't read the CD with the setup.exe and all program of a printer:
All in one Lexmark X75
I took something from Internet, but is not valuable for my computer. It seems that is installed but in reality is not installed, nothing appear to could print with my printer. I know that my printer is old model, but is very good on a computer with Windows XP SP3. What to do to find a possibility to install and use the printer on this program Windows 8, because I know that it contains also OS and Windows 32. Must exist a driver for it, or the driver for Windows 7 could be good for Windows 8 also?
I cannot install java on my computer.I download the application on their website, tried many times to install it but without success.
I tried the offline version, close all my tabs, stop firewall, antivirus....not working. I tried with administrator, same.
I have 2 programs that I cannot install on my new Win 8.1 PC but they install fine on Win 7. I also believe that I was able to install 1 of them when I had Win 8.0
When I install I get error message on one of them "Error 1723.There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
If it makes any difference the files I am trying to install are GCSMSetup_3_6_0.msi and msgames_win8_x64.msi
I want to install windows 8 on my 4GB RAM laptop. I use it mostly for browsing the internet, watching movies and some small programs. Should i install the 32bit. version? I must say that i don't plan to upgrade RAM memory in the future,4GB are more than enough for me right now

View 10 Replies View RelatedRecently I bought a new hard drive to replace my old one because it failed and just stopped working, I have a Sony vaio laptop that was pre- installed with windows 8 and assuming the activation key is in bios because I have only a windows 8 sticker at the back. With that out of the way the real issue is how i install windows 8 without a disk since I never got one with the laptop when I bought it. I got a spare computer I can use to create a disk or a Installing through an USB, but at this moment I don't have any empty disk available I heard its possible through USB so am planning on using this method. So how would I create an USB that I can use to install windows 8. Lastly, if I did make a USB would i have to enter an activation code or will the one in the bios work.

I have choose "Install by creating a disc" > Next > Save the ISO file at my drive C. The file was a Window Zip file . I want to write this file to my DVD, I copied it from drive C ans paste it to my DVD and click Burn to CD. The system takes about 5 minutes to complete the burning. However, when I want to install Win 8 from this CD, I find that the file still is a Window zip file. I use Winzip to open it, but could not find the "RUN" button.
