HP Windows 7 Recovery Disks?

Is there a repair with these disks? I am getting a BOOTMGR missing but I checked the hard drive and it is fine. I do not want to lose anything because I have a lot on it.I cloned my image about 5 days ago and I may go that route, however, I have done things since then and don't want to lose the data. Before I load the HP Recovery disks (4 of them, and I had to order them for free except pay for shipping), is there a repair option?

Cannot Hide Disks With No Media On

Jun 3, 2011

I by mistake unticked the option to hide disks with no media on and now even if the tick is put on all the usb ports and all the dvd reading writing devices are listed and I would like to hide em only if there is no media on them. So please if anyone knows how to fix this tell me. I don't want alternate methods like arraign them in a way that you cant see them in the right panel but they are still there or the method that makes those units inaccessible by the disk and partition manager I want to fix this to have it as it was before not an alternate method.

Remove Disks Or Other Media?

Jun 21, 2011

Whenever I start up, I get this error:Remove disks or other media.Press any key to restart But when I press a key, it will just carry on booting fine. It's inconvenient though. What may have caused this was I used Window 7's disk management to create a partition of my C drive to dual boot XP.Later on I installed EasyBCD to make windows only boot 7, and then I deleted the entire partition XP was installed on, and merged it back to the C drive.

Re-Installing Windows 7 With No Recovery Disks?

Mar 2, 2011

My rather new Acer Predator G has been acting up lately. I tried a restore point but this doesn't seem to help. As a last resort I was going to format the disk and re-install 7, however Acer never sent me recovery disks and I don't have 7 disks (Came pre-loaded). So my question is, if I can find someone with windows 7 disks can I use them + The CD key that's on the label of my desktop? Or do I need specific ones? Acer will send me recovery disks for 20$ but If I can pull this off for cheaper, I'd like to.

Windows 7 Not Installing Properly From OEM Recovery Disks

Oct 17, 2012

I have a 2 year old Gateway laptop (NV5929u) i5 430M w/ 4GB. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed. The computer crashed with a blue screen a few months ago, and I could not locate the recovery disks, so I ordered a set from Gateway (1 System disk, 2 Recovery disks, 1 Language disk). My attempts at recovery were unsuccessful and I got the msg: failure disk 0 partition 3. I replaced the HD with a brand new one yesterday. My attempts at recovery went a bit further, to the point that the computer loads the information on the various disks, but when it tries to restart.

Will Recovery Disks Save Personal Data

Nov 14, 2011

Having crashed my wife's dual-boot system, and the HP recovery section is no longer available. We have got it back up using the hp windows 7 update disk from hp. (had vista). What I need to know is best way to back up our data before I crash something again. Will windows 7 help me build "recovery" disks that also back up our personal data... or should I back up our personal data another way? We have no Windows 7 installation disk - just the upgrade disk from HP (Vista to Windows 7). Reason for asking: I have 2 corrupted partitions in linux that I need to reformat and I want our data backed up before I start.

Recovery Disks Will Not Load In New Hard Drive After Crash

Mar 5, 2012

My hard drive crashed on my laptop. Before It crashed, It gave me a hard drive warning of imminent failure, and gave me an option to create recovery disks. I ended up creating 11 disks from the option. I installed the new hard drive and the BIOS reads that it will boot from the internal optical drive first. When I insert the first CD and start then computer, it continues to read "Operating system not found". When I look at the CD in another computer, it reads three files and one folder. The first file is an icon file which reads "Setup", the next is a "Media" bin file, and the last is an autorun setup information file. The last is a folder that contains various other backup files. My computer did not come with any copies of windows.

Windows Error Recovery Loop When Other Disks Are Connected (UEFI)

Dec 21, 2012

Just built a new PC, specs as follows:

3770K
32GB DDR3
ASRock Z77 Extreme6
Crucial M4 128GB (from previous build)
OCZ Vertex 4 128GB
WD 400GB (from previous previous build)

I got Windows 7 up and running on the Crucial drive (connected at SATA3_1, with the WD connected and functioning on SATA3_A1) and then decided it was time to get Xubuntu up and running on the OCZ (SATA3_0). So I installed rEFInd on the Crucial's ESP and it worked - I was able to launch Windows 7 from the rEFInd menu. I then disconnected the Crucial and connected the OCZ, and installed Xubuntu. In the UEFI, I set rEFInd as the boot device/manager, and from the rEFInd menu I can select Xubuntu and Windows 7 - great. However, I can only actually boot Xubuntu; booting Windows 7 results in a Windows Error Recovery loop.Disconnecting all but the Crucial SSD, I can get into Startup Repair. It attempts repair for several minutes, fails with the following details:Quote :Problem signature:

Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385

Windows 7 Install On EFI System And GPI Disks

May 16, 2011

I've installed Win7 on a 500GB Sata II disk and was running fine. Then something happened, boot manager missing, and I need to re-install Win7 on same disk. Now I get a message, when installing on the SAME DISK: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."

This disk just had Win7 installed on it and is still there (but boot manager is still missing) so how can the disk have an MBR partition? I got this same msg. when trying to install Win7 on a clean Samsung 128GB SSD as well. I re-formatted the drive and still same msg. How can I make my disk formatted with GPT partitions instead of MBR partitions? I can find no choices in terms of which kind of formatting and partitions that can be used when formatting disks on Win7 or XP Pro.

Restore Disks To Install Windows?

Aug 26, 2011

Windows 7 Install On XP Formatted Both Disks In Machine

May 3, 2011

On Friday I attempted to install windows 7 ultimate x64 My existing machine is a XP Pro SP3 machine and it meets the system requirements as per Windows 7 upgrade advisor I booted from DVD and followed the steps up to selecting where to installl windows 7

This list showed me

Disk 0 Partition 1
Disk 1 Partition 1
Disk 1 Partition 2

Disk 0 is my C drive where my windows xp is installed - 300GB disk Disk 1 is where is store my files: pictures, music, documents etc - 500GB disk Partition 2 of Disk 1 is unallocated 9GB I selected Disk 0 Partition 1 Then selected Disk Options Format Drive Clicked Ok to the message about destroying data And allowed the install to proceed What i intended / expected to happen was that windows 7 ultimate would be installed on drive C: (Disk 0) and that drive D: (Disk 1) would remain intact and untouched by the process The Windows 7 install completed successfully I logged on to my user account, activated my windows 7 copy I then looked at my disks and what i see is that: Drive C was formatted and windows 7 was installed there BUT The install process formatted drive D and copied the windows XP installation to that drive So i have lost a lot of data that i did not expect to, and, of course, had not backed up in ages. For now, anyway, thats beside the point.I then removed the windows 7 DVD from the drive and rebooted the PC When the disk was removed the machine booted to Windows XP - running from the copy taken earlier on Drive D However, when i replaced the DVD to try to boot to windows 7 again, it began the installation process from the start?I dont remember selecting a dual boot option during the initial install, but maybe the steps i took led me to something like that by some default?

English Win 7 Key + German Install Disks, Will It Work ?

Feb 18, 2010

I have an OEM version of Win 7 Pro (English) currently installed on my system. I am currently upgrading my Motherboard and CPU, building another system with the old parts. As the recipients of my old setup are German, the OS needs to be in German for them also.

Here is my dilemma. When I pickup a new copy of Win 7 it will be in German (as I am living in Germany). They need a German instillation of 7 and my current OEM key is locked to the old motherboard. Will I be able to use that English OEM key with a German instillation, then use the new German key with my current English disks?

Reinstalling Windows 7 On A System With Dynamic Disks With No Install DVD?

Jan 15, 2011

I have a custom built HTPC running Windows7 Home Premium 64 bit that I bought from a tin-pot PC building firm last year. It has 4 physical drives in it. The first is configured as a "basic disk" with a single C: drive partition on which windows 7 is installed. The other three are configured as a RAID1 "dynamic disk" that present themselves in Windows as a single logical drive (E:) and that's where all my data lives.Windows Media Centre has now stopped working properly and I've tried everything to fix it, in case I can avoid a reinstall! mcupdate.exe always crashes(with System.IO.FileNotFoundException): I can't update TV signal set-up or guide data ) so now I need to reinstall windows. I'm an IT professional and I've installed many prior versions of windows in the past, but never Windows 7:

1) If I reinstall Windows 7 on my C:/ drive, will the E: drive be left unaffected and the fresh install of windows will still be able to see the E: drive and access all the data on it without any permissions issues?

2) The company that I bought the HTPC from neglected to give me a DVD with the Windows 7 installer (and prod key) on and they went out of business a few months ago, so I'm feeling a bit stuck. I've used a free tool to extract my Windows 7 product key from the registry, and borrowed a Windows 7 DVD from a friend. Will reinstalling from this DVD with the product key I've extracted work, or is the product key tied to the physical DVD (or does it just need to pass a checksum algorithm?) If I use my product key to reinstall, will I also be able to re"activate" Windows 7 or will it now think it's a dodgy copy? My current install says it's an OEM version (when I tried to get support from MS.com), but my friend's DVD is a full retail one - is that a problem too? What options do I have here? Can I, for example, create a copy of my friend's DVD and amend the prod-key in the poduct.ini file to be mine in the "HomePremium=" entry?

3) Before I attempt anything, I'm keen to do a full system backup. I've done this with the Windows 7 system image tool and have a 154 GB file that I've copied to an external USB hard drive, and I'm going to create a restore boot "disk" on a CD. However, If I need to do a restore, can the restore app read from a USB HD or not? I assume it can't read from the dynamic disk E: drive? Or can I just keep it on the C: drive, or will this get wiped completely when I reinstall windows, thus losing the image file?

Use Windows 7 Recovery Media From External HD

Dec 26, 2012

I'm trying to move my operating system from the preinstalled HD to a SSD I just installed in my laptop. I know that it is typically recommended to do this using the recovery media on DVD or USB but I don't have an optical drive or a large enough USB (if I can't get anything to work I'll just have to go buy one). I also am hesitant to use Acronis to clone the OS to the SSD as I've heard that there are problems with using an OS that was originally installed on an HD with an SSD.

For these reasons I'm trying to use the recovery media from an external HD. Using lenovo's built in media creator I wrote to an external hard drive (there was an option for usb hard disk drive and everything) without any trouble. Then I modified the boot order so that it would boot from USB HDD first. However, when I try to actually boot from the HDD I get the error "PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable" and I can't boot or install the OS. I know that the problem isn't with the cable because I can write to the drive and see its contents.

Is there anyway to use this hard drive recovery media? Do I need to make the partition "active" or "boot" using disk management? I've been trying to get this to work for two days.

Can Recovery Partition Be Backed Up Onto External Media And Then Used Later

Jan 29, 2012

I want to do some partitioning of my hard drive and ideally would like to reclaim the space used by the recovery partition. If I copy my recovery partition (20GB) to an external HD or other media and restore it later if necessary will that work? Is there some hidden something I should know about that will come bite me in the a** if I do that?
