I got Windows 7 up and running on the Crucial drive (connected at SATA3_1, with the WD connected and functioning on SATA3_A1) and then decided it was time to get Xubuntu up and running on the OCZ (SATA3_0). So I installed rEFInd on the Crucial's ESP and it worked - I was able to launch Windows 7 from the rEFInd menu. I then disconnected the Crucial and connected the OCZ, and installed Xubuntu. In the UEFI, I set rEFInd as the boot device/manager, and from the rEFInd menu I can select Xubuntu and Windows 7 - great. However, I can only actually boot Xubuntu; booting Windows 7 results in a Windows Error Recovery loop.Disconnecting all but the Crucial SSD, I can get into Startup Repair. I recently just build a new setup with Asus P8Z77-V LK, this motherboard comes with UEFI boot and legacy BIOS boot support.So I tested install windows 7 in both mode, and I didn't find any advantage of UEFI consider it is a new technology been promoted quite a lot for recent years.The benefit I found is: a graphic BIOS setup, which is useless to most users if you don't OC. Even you did, I still find using keyboard to navigate through the menu is much easier than mouse.Faster boot time? very negligible, could be 31 seconds compare to 28 seconds. As I timed use my stopwatch, the value could include a few seconds human error as well.Support boot from > 2.2TB HDD? nowadays most user use SSD as boot drive so this really doesn't matter.GPT disk partition? don't see any benefit here compare to legacy MBR...
I've recently purchased a pre-made desktop. Upon arrival and start up today- I got the window's recovery error screen stating that hardware/software changes may be at fault. I have only the basics plugged in-I have tried unplugging them all and making sure all connections are secure, trying my old graphics card, and even dropping the ram down to 2gb. I cannot start in safe mode, nor window's normally. Whatever I choose, it goes to the window loading screen with the little orbs for about 10 seconds and restarts my computer. And ends up going to the recovery screen again. I have a reinstallation cd, but it wont read it.
Currently having a wake on lan issue with a certain computer.
The machine is setup correctly but the windows boot information is stored in a 100mb UEFI partition, and when the computer wakes on lan, it will not boot windows, just sit at a blank screen. When it wakes on lan it is trying to boot from the legacy device (same blank screen happens if you choose to boot from it from bios) ive tried updating the bios but no luck, all settings seem to be as they should be.
Is there some trick to get it to load the UEFI MBR, or is there a safe way other then reformatting the machine to move the MBR over to the legacy device itself?
i got a windows 7 2012 virus by downloading a picture so i wanted to use my homemade recovery disks that i made when i first purchased the laptop and i dont know how to use it. i pressed f2 to go to boot options but cds wasnt listed, also when i restarted the laptop with the cds inside it doesnt prompt me to do anything, it justs boots normally. how do i use these disks?!
Is there a repair with these disks? I am getting a BOOTMGR missing but I checked the hard drive and it is fine. I do not want to lose anything because I have a lot on it.I cloned my image about 5 days ago and I may go that route, however, I have done things since then and don't want to lose the data. Before I load the HP Recovery disks (4 of them, and I had to order them for free except pay for shipping), is there a repair option?
My rather new Acer Predator G has been acting up lately. I tried a restore point but this doesn't seem to help. As a last resort I was going to format the disk and re-install 7, however Acer never sent me recovery disks and I don't have 7 disks (Came pre-loaded). So my question is, if I can find someone with windows 7 disks can I use them + The CD key that's on the label of my desktop? Or do I need specific ones? Acer will send me recovery disks for 20$ but If I can pull this off for cheaper, I'd like to.
I have a 2 year old Gateway laptop (NV5929u) i5 430M w/ 4GB. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed. The computer crashed with a blue screen a few months ago, and I could not locate the recovery disks, so I ordered a set from Gateway (1 System disk, 2 Recovery disks, 1 Language disk). My attempts at recovery were unsuccessful and I got the msg: failure disk 0 partition 3. I replaced the HD with a brand new one yesterday. My attempts at recovery went a bit further, to the point that the computer loads the information on the various disks, but when it tries to restart.

I was in the middle of reinstalling Windows 7 and the power went out. The computer Dell Inspiron 1440 is caught in a continuous loop. I have 3 options to choose from when I power up the computer:
Windows 7 Windows RollBack and Another Windows 7.
Regardless of what option I choose (I tried all 3) it goes to a second screen where I have 2 options: Launch Start up repair or start windows normally. Regardless of which of those options I choose it goes back to the first 3 choices (Windows 7 Windows Roll setup rollback or Windows 7). I can't make any progress. I have tried booting from safe mode (F8) and it still will not boot. It blinks safe mode for a few seconds then reboots and goes through the same continuous loop.
I am trying to boot from the CD; I am using an external CD drive as the internal drive does not work properly. The boot sequence it set to the CD drive first. I have tried everything I can think of and I have been searching the internet for days and I cannot figure out how to get this system back up. I do not care if I lose everything on the drive. I have a toshiba satellite L740 laptop. I have created the recovery disks from recovery media creator. I am trying to reinstall windows 7 using these disks but i'm not knowing how to do that. I am not able to enter the bios settings on start up. Should i have the original windows 7 installation cd to reinstall windows or can i use the recovery disks? I was not given any windows installation cd when i bought this laptop.

Having crashed my wife's dual-boot system, and the HP recovery section is no longer available. We have got it back up using the hp windows 7 update disk from hp. (had vista). What I need to know is best way to back up our data before I crash something again. Will windows 7 help me build "recovery" disks that also back up our personal data... or should I back up our personal data another way? We have no Windows 7 installation disk - just the upgrade disk from HP (Vista to Windows 7). My hard drive crashed on my laptop. Before It crashed, It gave me a hard drive warning of imminent failure, and gave me an option to create recovery disks. I ended up creating 11 disks from the option. I installed the new hard drive and the BIOS reads that it will boot from the internal optical drive first. When I insert the first CD and start then computer, it continues to read "Operating system not found". When I look at the CD in another computer, it reads three files and one folder. The first file is an icon file which reads "Setup", the next is a "Media" bin file, and the last is an autorun setup information file. The last is a folder that contains various other backup files. My computer did not come with any copies of windows.

I'm at work right now, and it is at home, so I can't try anything until I get home tonight.Here'e the situation, as best I can tell:He has 2 laptops...one is old, and connects fine, the other is probably 6 months old - a Dell - Windows 7, and this is the one that is having problems. The other laptop has no problem with its connection - it is just the Dell laptop. He brought it over to my house last night, and it is doing the same thing. It finds and connects to my network, but it states that it is a "limited access" connection, which essentially means you have no internet connection (apparently).
So here is what I have found out. For one, his laptop came with few months subscription to McAfee...and apparently that is now expired. He's never renewed it. I did put MalwareBytes on there for him, when he got the thing, but I don't think he runs it unless he thinks there is a problem. I've told him to keep it updated, but I guess he thinks I can fix it if there is a problem. Again... (Once we get this fixed, he WILL keep this stuff current..darn it.) Anyway...he said he kept getting some popups - the ones that ask if you want to "allow a program to make a change to your computer"...and he always said no. I think he got several of those in one night. He ran the MalwareBytes, and it found and quarantined some malware (I don't know what sort of things - I was not there when he ran it) and then when he tried to access his network again, he got the "limited access" thing. So...something has happened, just on that laptop. I messed around with it a little last night, but I couldn't get anything working.
I have a pc that is setup with a 60 gb SSD for Windows and a 2TB RAID 0 for the rest of the stuff. Last night I decided to partition some of the RAID to install Windows 8 Consumer Preview and see what the fuss was about.I partitioned it just fine, and everything was going smoothly, until I decided to use the windows tool to make my pendrive bootable with the Win8 ISO.In the middle of the process, I was doing something else (unistalling firefox to be more exact) and suddenly a blue screen comes up!Now my PC is stuck on the famous startup recovery loop, and I cant find a way to make it boot.

And as you can imagine nothing happened and I am still stuck with my har drive being unbootable.Now I cant help thinking that this was due to my pen drive being in the middle of that process in some way, but I have since removed it, burned it and buried in a forest, and still my problem persists.Since I havent found another solution online, I think now that the only way for me to get my PC back running is by reformatting my SSD (while hopefully keeping all my RAID files intact) and reinstalling windows. BBUUUTT!!! I have 100s of hours worth of Skyrim in that drive, and if I loose that I will seriously freak out! I am having a nightmare with my Dell Latitude E4300 laptop. At the moment it runs a continuous loop of start up repair and will not allow me to even attempt to get into Windows 7 until this has been done. When it runs the test it stops, giving the error message no OS files found on disk. Everytime I restart this process just continues.It is a work laptop, so I do not have and windows recovery disks.To make matters even worse, before the startup repair loop the laptop wouldnt even let me into the Windows system, even in safe mode. After attempting to get into safe mode it would stop at the driver classpnp.sys. Further tests would also show up the error message 2000 0146.I am not technical at all, so am hoping this is going to make sense to someone who can explain it in very simple lanuage.Just to reconfirm, I do not have any windows recovery disks - and cannot access safe mode at all.
I constantly get a loop of "Windows Explorer has stopped working" errors. I've been trying to resolve this for hours now, I've looked at other threads similar to my problem but nothing seems to work. I'm currently on Safe Mode as this is the only way I can do anything without getting the error.

I attempted to install Windows 7 x64 RC version on my new desktop, and about 20 minutes into the "Complete Installation" section my computer crashed for a reason of which I'm not aware (I saw a blue screen with writing for about a second or two before my computer restarted). I now get the following error after windows attempts to "start services":
"Install Windows. The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation".
I've now clicked "OK" about 10 times, with my computer restarting properly each time, and the same error pops up every time.
I've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows.However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore.It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.
I have looked into the startup repair loop problem a bit and have tried the advanced repair option but when it prompts me for a login and password, it only gives the option to log in as "updatususer".
my computer, a toshiba satellite L655D-S5159, has been broken recently. At first, I got an infinite startup repair loop, because of a corrupted registry. I checked the registry files and they are all 256kb. I tried to run sfc /scannow and chkdsk /f /r, but that didn't do anything. Then I tried to run bootrec rebuildbcd, and now I'm getting error 0xc0000225 at startup.
