View 1 Replies View RelatedI've checked the forums here at Windows seven forums and still have not found my answer. I recently received a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I put the disc for The Sims 3 in the disc drive, but the download box won't open. I've opened Run, but my computer will not recognize the disc.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running "windows backup and restore" on one of my external hard drives and WDsmartware (western digital software that came with my other external drive). WDsmartware eats up WAY to much resources. Would I be better off just using "windows backup and restore" for both drives? are there any free programs out there that are "better' than windows 7 "backup and restore"?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi got home put the game into my laptop (2 week old dell inspiron with windows 7) & the usual window didn't pop up like it has with all of the other disks i have put in my laptop (including other dvd's). I then went in to open it manually but it is not recognising a disk. Firstly i know it is not that there is a problem with my laptop as all other disks work on it & secondly it cannot be the actual disc & i have actaully returned 2 thinking that they were faulty, i am now on my 3rd. I have looked at forum after forum & tried all of the relevent suggestions but i don't seem to be getting anywhere.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy computer crashed and I lost all my Sims data. I tried to reinstall with the original discs but when I got to the 20 digit code on the box, it said it was invalid (probably because it belonged to me). I had installed Sims 3, Expansion packs World Adventures, and Ambitions. I recently bought Late Night, but my computer crashed before I downloaded it. How can I reinstall these? Will any of the work I did on each one be restored, or will I need to start in the beginning of each one?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi'm looking to do a fresh install of Win 7 (mostly just to reorganize my HDD setup) and here's the catch - I have a secondary drive with all my games, program files, data, etc. and I'm wondering if there's an easy way to get the new Windows install to recognize these applications without having to reinstall them all. I know I could go into the registry and change keys, but that would probably take longer than reinstalling them all.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1545 (2.5 years old). All my data is backed up so I have no concerns about recoverying data.First, the laptop crashed and ran several chkdsk on start up. I froze several times during this. It said it had fixed some errors then started up again. This time it wanted to do start up repair. Same thing kept happening, froze at least twenty times during this. Eventually it gave me the blue screen of death.

This repeated several times. I ran the diagnostics and it told me the hard drive could not be found (error code 0146, 2000-0146). Essentially, it's a Dell laptop (I know) and I am not bothered about recovering the hard drive.I would, however, like to install Windows 7, or alternatively Linux, onto my external hard drive. But I just can't seem to get it to work.I have extracted a Linux iso to the external hard drive I want to install on, onto a cd, onto a FAT32 8gb usb stick, but it has given me the bootmgr is missing error every time. I have tried it with the interal HDD in and removed.I am no longer concerned about the internal HDD, i can use it for a door stop for all I am concerned, I just want to load ANY os onto my external hard drive so I can get the laptop working.
I had dell inspiron 1525 on vista purchased 2years ago , a month back I gave it to technician for OS update. Its now working like charm on windows 7 . But the problem is , the stupid technician forget to load dell media direct on it.I searched many sites to install it without wiping my os , but no luck. how can I install it on laptop without reloading os again as I have so many softwares and data on my 500gb HD.or Can I do it by creating a partition with any drive ??
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a 20GB laptop HDD in an enclosure at the moment. I want to copy the Windows 7 setup files from the extracted ISO to that drive for installation. I did this with XP by using the following:
Code: C:xp3I386winnt32.exe /syspart:E: /tempdrive:E: /makelocalsource /noreboot
For the XP install I hooked up the drive via a usb-to-ide interface to another laptop and then ran that line from a command prompt and stepped through copying the needed setup files to the drive.
From there I placed the HDD into the desired laptop (no working cd/dvd rom) and booted up into Windows setup. I do not believe this will work for 7 as there seems to be a directory structure difference to say the least. I wonder if that would still work had I the correct syntax though...
Is it possible to do this with Windows 7?
*The laptop is a DELL Inspiron 1100. The BIOS does not support booting from a USB device.
wasn't really sure if that would work since it has to be in the program files can i? bc i have several games and would rather have them on my TB that on my internal HD.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using a program called Raw Therapee. I downloaded a new version and on installing it quit saying the old version must be removed. I could not find it listed in Revo Unistaller Pro, so I did a forced uninstall with the location of the main executable. This removed a lot of stuff. I checked the program folder and the folder and many files were still there, so I deleted them. I did a CCleaner in between and after. I then unhide and show system files and deleted the folders in the Appdata of main user and admin account, couldn't find it anywhere else.
CCleaner again and reboot. Went to install the new version again and it claimed that the old version was still installed. I did a search for *aw The* and found an entry in the hidden Program Data Folder. In the Admin account it will not let me in this folder to delete any remnants of the old version of Raw Therapee.
I managed to install Sims 1 but after clicking play nothing comes up. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it, and I've searched for any other solution online but nothing seems to work.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a USB external hard drive that I keep all my documents etc on (had it for years)I upgraded from Vista Home to & Home Premium then had to upgrade recently to Professional to run my Sage. Through all these upgrades my ext. drive ran fine. Occasionally the drvie letter would change if I had something else plugged into the USB, this was always easily corected in disk management by changing the drive path. The connection on the case packed up so I had to get the drive put into a new case, now when I plug it in the drive is assigned G instead of F, I tried to change the drive letter allocation in Disk Management but it won't let me as the program still thinks I have a second ext. hard drive which is labelled F. I suspect this has happened because when the usb connection broke the drive was disconnected suddenly instead of a proper eject. How do I get Disk Management to remove the inactive drive - i can't find any obvious way - eject, delete etc are all missing when I click on tools or tasks.
