Cannot Open / Install Sims 3
Feb 14, 2010
i got home put the game into my laptop (2 week old dell inspiron with windows 7) & the usual window didn't pop up like it has with all of the other disks i have put in my laptop (including other dvd's). I then went in to open it manually but it is not recognising a disk. Firstly i know it is not that there is a problem with my laptop as all other disks work on it & secondly it cannot be the actual disc & i have actaully returned 2 thinking that they were faulty, i am now on my 3rd. I have looked at forum after forum & tried all of the relevent suggestions but i don't seem to be getting anywhere.

I've checked the forums here at Windows seven forums and still have not found my answer. I recently received a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I put the disc for The Sims 3 in the disc drive, but the download box won't open. I've opened Run, but my computer will not recognize the disc.

My computer crashed and I lost all my Sims data. I tried to reinstall with the original discs but when I got to the 20 digit code on the box, it said it was invalid (probably because it belonged to me). I had installed Sims 3, Expansion packs World Adventures, and Ambitions. I recently bought Late Night, but my computer crashed before I downloaded it. How can I reinstall these? Will any of the work I did on each one be restored, or will I need to start in the beginning of each one?

I just installed Da sims on a HP pavillion dv5 laptop with Intel Core i5 processor & 4g ram with windows 7.The game itself runs rather fine, but the options on the upper part of the screen (build, create family, demolish...) are oddly GONE.So, I installed the same game on my PC (wich runs on win XP) and it works perfectly, with th eproper options on the screens upper section.

Today I downloaded sims 2 double deluxe , seasons, and university all on my toshiba windows 7 computer. If I put in the sims university disc it'll show the screen that has the logo and then nothing, if I put in seasons it'll say I need to make sure sims seasons is in the drive and press ok. I've tried running them as administrator, I've changed all three of their compatibility modes to windows xp service pack 3?

I experienced some flashing/flickering/blinking of the screen while I was playing The Sims 3.I know the game has overheated graphics cards in the past, so I'm concerned; thankfully, Christmas is coming up if I need a new card.

So coming here was sort of a last resort, I've been scouring the internet for information but I've failed to no avail. My problem is that the Sims 3 Launcher and game is running in the background is what I've gathering from bits and pieces of information I've picked up the past two hours. I've checked the task manager and in the Processes tab it shows it running, or processing, I just cannot see it or access it no matter what I try. I'm getting no error code, nothing out of the ordinary. I've already tried bypassing the launcher and the game seems to be running in the background too.how actually stop a program from running in the background if possible, it just happened to a game, sorry for any inconvenience.

Anyone had similar problems with The Sims 3 crashing computer to the safe mode screen? Been playing Sims on my laptop for couple of years and everything was fine until I installed a new game. Im not sure whether there is a windows update which is interferring or not. Anyone experience anything? There is nothing wrong with my graphics card and my fan isnt overheating. My dad works in IT and we have basically pulled apart the laptop and rebuilt it and it still crashes when The Sims 3 is installed.

I bought The Sims 3 years ago, worked fine. I then bought World Adventures and Late Night and again, worked fine. I then got Pets for Christmas, was working fine until about a week ago when it froze every so often when i went to the map view, i would then have to press the desktop button and the message "The Sims 3 has stoppe working" would appear... un-installed all of the games and reinstalled them, didn't work. Then started freezing, during game play as well, unistalled them again and reinstalled - again no luck. I have turned off all the DEP on the exe files of every game, still no luck.I have tried trouble shooting all the games and no luck there.I have:HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PCIntel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 430 @ 2.27GHz Installed Memory: 3.00 GB (2.86 GB usable)64-bit Operating System

-Cannot open any programs or install any anti-virus. (I was able to get onto IE through a back way but nothing else is openable.)
-I installed Malwarebytes, Avira and Regseeker to take off this virus but it won't allow me to install the programs.
-It won't open anything with a ".exe" file extension.
-I tried opening programs and installing the AVs in Safe Mode but the same "error" message came up as in Normal Mode.
-The Message says: "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Install a program to fix it."
-EVERYTHING worked fine yesterday and early this morning. Nothing in registry was messed with and no options were changed.
i need the stuff on this computer and it isn't backed up so a total reset of the computer is out of the question. the stuff on this computer is worthless to everyone else in the world so why would a malware be on this computer? If i could get the AVs installed and running, I know that I could fix it from there.

I just did a "samsung system restore" because i was playing a computer game that kept crashing and i thought restoring to a previous time would fix it. However, when i rebooted by computer the interface of windows 7 was different and i every program i open is messed up and text does not show in any program. even the "password" screen to log into my account has a different styled text. I am unsure what to do. Windows task manager does not work either.

Last week my husband installed Azureus aka Vuze onto our Sony VIAO laptop. He said several hours later, while he was watching a video, the computer suddenly shut down. Since then, we have found that we can't open any non-Windows inherit programs. Windows did an update, but it didn't help.We can open documents, pictures, notepad, calculator - all the things that would have come with Windows 7, but if it is a program that we have installed, like Chrome, AVG free or AdAware, we can't open it. I double-click and nothing happens.Likewise, when I try to uninstall programs. I tried fixing the issue by removing Azureus, but I get the message that it doesn't look like it can be uninstalled and asks if I want it removed from the programs list.I have successfully gotten ZIP folders to open and use REG files (which is how I got ZIP folders to work), but that's it.

Windows 7 64 bit on a Dell Inspiron.
Not a major problem -- more of a minor irritation and an "I wonder if anyone else has struck this...?"
Whenever installing a program lately (can't remember how long -- I've been ignoring it for a while), Windows doesn't respond when I click the .exe installer file. But as soon as I hit Ctrl - Alt - Del and open the Task Manager, Windows suddenly wakes up and installs the program without a hitch. I don't have to do anything in Task Manager; simply opening it is enough. Also, the computer hasn't crashed in this state. If I want to open another already-installed program and use it, I can without any problems. It's just that it completely ignores my command to run the .exe file until I threaten it with Task Manager.
The first couple of times, before I thought of opening Task Manager, I'd double click the .exe file several thousand times, as you do, wondering why it wasn't doing anything. Then, when I opened the Task Manager, it'd try to install the program several thousand times. Now I know to simply double click the .exe file, then hit Ctrl - Alt - Del, and voila, the program is installed.
What I want to know is, why doesn't Windows install the program in the first place?
FYI, the programs I was having trouble with were (from memory) Dropbox, Skype, memoQ (translation memory software) and a few others I can't remember. I doubt that the programs were the problem though. I'm pretty sure this is a Windows problem.

Programs won't open and whilst the control panel will open clicking any of the options results in it hanging, resulting in me needing to end the process in task manager. I'm in safe mode right now and no such problems are currently present. This is a newly built computer and the OS is installed on an SSD. After installing Windows I installed drivers from three CDs in the following order: graphics card, sound card, mobo/chipset. No problems appeared to occur. I think prior to installing these drivers Windows was okay as I recall looking up why my internet wasn't working(turned out I need the LAN driver from the latter driver CD)

I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine.
