View 5 Replies View RelatedYesterday when I went to shut down my computer, it froze. Not seeing any alternative, I manually powered it down. When later attempting to turn the machine on, I received an error (with no specific error message) saying that it was unable to startup successfully, and presented me with a menu for running diagnostics, backing up data, resetting to factory defaults, etc.. Being very short on sleep at the time, I decided "I'll deal with this tomorrow" and shut it down.
Just now, when powering up to try to deal with it, it started up fine. Thing is, without having done anything to fix the issue, I'm worried there might still be a problem with my machine, since I've been told failures to boot properly usually indicate something serious. The computer is an HP Pavilion dv7-6b55dx running Windows 7 64-bit service pack 1. I ran a virus scan and it came up clean, and a spyware scan is running as I type this.
From a couple of days, I've the problem that SOMETIMES (not always), when I shutdown the system, appear the message concerning the system is waiting the closing of Task Host process, but I'm forced to close manually from there, because the waiting is useless. The message should be this: "1 program still needs to close: (Waiting for) Task Host Window".It happen only from 7-10 days, and Revo Uninstaller report that in last days I only install some games and these programs:
DivX Pro 6.8.0 VFW
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable
Microsft XNA Framework
Probably, all programs installed with some game. How can I do? I tried the exact version of hotfix here: http:(url) but it doesn't install because it's probably already installed (I have SP1).I want to avoid to restore an old statut with System Restore. I have Windows 7 x64 with SP1 and latest updates for everything.
I have a problem that occurs only during shut down only. When I select Shut Down I soon get a pop up that says....the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142) Click OK to close the application. the label on the window is cmd.exe. Whether I click on the window or not, the shut down proceeds and eventually after say 30 seconds the alert disapears and the laptop shuts down. clicking on the alert simply brings up another alert. All this only occurs during shut down only. Also, I have no problem running cmd.exe during normal operation, or any other program run from the command window. I have read a number of posts but do not see anything exactly like this, that is happening during shut down.

My system is a windows 7 x64. it is connected via LAN cable to my wifi router (also used for internet). Prior to installing Canon Pixma MG5370 apps and driver, the windows works fine.My Canon printer is connected via WIFI to my router so in essence, I print through my router to the printer. No errors were encountered during the installation process. After all these, I noted that my windows will not shutdown anymore. After clicking shutdown, it will reach the screen where it shows "Shutting down" and a spinning disc like icon. and this is where it will remain and not power off at all.ard disk Led not blinking during this time. I had to do a HARD FORCE shutdown.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two windows updates that keep failing. When i go to shutdown my computer I always have an update icon attached to the shutdown key. The download is always 1of1. Then when i reboot, the update icon is still there. I'm thinking since the two updates are failing, it has something to do with the 1of1 update not downloading properly. I went to windows update to check for new updates, and the only one is the two that keep failing. My computer just blue screened on shutdown today, winch got me thinking i really need to fix this.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently installed windows 7 64-bit ultimate using a clean install since i had windows xp. Everything installed ok. The problem I'm having is that when i shut down, it automatically restarts instead of shutting down. It runs through the BIOS and POSTS as if i restarted. There are no errors listed when it restarts. It's as if i pressed restart instead of shutdown. The only way i can turn off my computer is when i hold down my power button for 3 seconds.

I recently bought an Alienware m17x and it keeps shutting down randomly. I tried reinstalling a fresh version of windows just to be sure and reupdating all of the drivers to match my computer's needs. (via windows update and Driver Genius)It never shuts down randomly in safe mode though, so it tells me: (Correct me if I'm wrong)
1) It's not one of the absolutely critical files causing it, since the files/drivers work without shutting down in safe mode
2) It's not an overheating problem since it doesn't shut down randomly in safe mode
3) Probably not a problem with the battery, or else it would shut down in safe mode too. (Right?)
I still have a 1 year warrenty with Alienware/Dell but I'd rather not wait several weeks (send/receive, fix, send back which takes a while b/c shipping takes atleast a week each way) for them to receive it, fix it, and send it back. (I'd prefer to use that as a last resort because I use/need my computer daily)Dell does have a BIOS flasher for Alienware m17x which I have not tried yet?

But have not found any. At first I thought it was th eIE since the shutdown always occurred while surfing th eInternet. But, I have had it shutdown once not being on th eInternet (maybe 99 to 98% while on the internet). The computer will run for days, weeks and even months before it shows up again. I have replaced the Power supply, the video card with one just like it, and rearranged the memory (3 x 2g) OCZ GoldI have run the memory test with Windows 7 and no problems were found. View 1 Replies View RelatedThis tutorial will show you how to set the amount of time Windows 7 waits for programs to save data and close before shutting down. Always, as usual, make sure you save and close applications before shutting down to prevent data loss. I also recommend that you backup the registry before editing it.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI've got a problem with shutting down Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit version, I have read through all the posts about windows restarting when shutdown is pressed or the off button is pressed on the desktop PC. I have gone into BIOS and altered the restart in event of system failure, and also done the same on My Computer in advanced settings but none have worked.I have done a check on Microsoft's website to check all the hardware and software too, and the results were all clear. Apart from Adobe Photoshop 3, when I installed this program for some reason I was unable to get an internet connection. And I had to swap my Panda Internet Security for Windows Security Essentials, which I have found out since is better than most of the top brands that you pay for; and it is free to all those people who have got the genuine system from Microsoft.I have all the latest updates for the software and drivers too, also done a full scan of the PC including the two external hard drives that I have connected to the PC.

All of the Gadgets disappear but it only leaves one Gadget, the currency gadget on the desktop and then the forced shutdown screen appears asking me to force shutdown. I think the Sidebar.exe stops responding at shutdown. This started to happen not long ago and happens everytime. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. Now not only the currency gadget, it seems other gadgets too. I had done some checks on my own like closing the gadgets and see if it happens, and it still happens.

View 9 Replies View RelatedHad this problem on a Dell XPS M1330 running Vista and then upgrading to Win 7 64bit. Try flashing or updating BIOS first. Then unplug and replug (or replace if bad) the CMOS battery to reset BIOS. Remember CMOS holds the settings in BIOS. So when no power to CMOS, BIOS settings get wiped out (BIOS tells your pc what to do when it starts). Reset to default settings in BIOS. This fixed my restart issue! I tried all kinds of fixes and this was the only one that worked! Not all are software related issues. Any hardware changes can cause this problem like adding a IDE drive to a SATA board. Make the drive a slave changing it from cable select for example.
