View 1 Replies View RelatedThis week, I encountered the following strange problem for which I haven't found a final solution so far, though I have found some bandaids. But having a complete solution -or at least a reason why this problem occurs- would be great:I have a working installation of Windows 7 Professional x64 in UEFI mode. The main disk, SSD #1, contains the following partitions (using GPT): ESP, MSR, system, data. An additional disk, HD #2, with a single data partition (using MBR) is also attached to the system. With this setup, everything works fine.Now, after adding another disk, HD #3, to the system -my old system disk (bootable, using MBR, one active primary partition and an extend partition with three logical disks)- Windows will no longer boots completely: The boot process begins, the Windows logo is shown. Then, a message is shown in text mode "Windows is loading files" with a loading bar. After a while the boot process stops and I am dropped into the EFI shell. After removing the offending HD #3, Windows boots normally again.
I tried removing HD #2 and only attaching HD #3 together with SSD #1, but this yielded the same problem. Using SSD #1 by itself works fine though. Booting from a Linux live-cd works without problems. All disks and partitions are found and can be mounted. There, I erased the disk signature from the offending HD #3 and now Windows was able to boot and also found all disks and partitions correctly. But after a reboot the same problem reappeared
everytime i wanted to restart, it came up with this BSOD SPECIAL_POOL_DETECTED_MEMORY_CORRUPTION ran memtest for 7 passes with no error seems like all my recent bsods are memory related. i dont have any spare rams to try.
View 5 Replies View RelatedYesterday when I went to shut down my computer, it froze. Not seeing any alternative, I manually powered it down. When later attempting to turn the machine on, I received an error (with no specific error message) saying that it was unable to startup successfully, and presented me with a menu for running diagnostics, backing up data, resetting to factory defaults, etc.. Being very short on sleep at the time, I decided "I'll deal with this tomorrow" and shut it down.
Just now, when powering up to try to deal with it, it started up fine. Thing is, without having done anything to fix the issue, I'm worried there might still be a problem with my machine, since I've been told failures to boot properly usually indicate something serious. The computer is an HP Pavilion dv7-6b55dx running Windows 7 64-bit service pack 1. I ran a virus scan and it came up clean, and a spyware scan is running as I type this.
From a couple of days, I've the problem that SOMETIMES (not always), when I shutdown the system, appear the message concerning the system is waiting the closing of Task Host process, but I'm forced to close manually from there, because the waiting is useless.The message should be this: "1 program still needs to close: (Waiting for) Task Host Window".It happen only from 7-10 days, and Revo Uninstaller report that in last days I only install some games and these programs:

I have a problem that occurs only during shut down only. When I select Shut Down I soon get a pop up that says....the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142) Click OK to close the application. the label on the window is cmd.exe. Whether I click on the window or not, the shut down proceeds and eventually after say 30 seconds the alert disapears and the laptop shuts down. clicking on the alert simply brings up another alert. All this only occurs during shut down only. Also, I have no problem running cmd.exe during normal operation, or any other program run from the command window. I have read a number of posts but do not see anything exactly like this, that is happening during shut down.

On Firefox and Chrome the download just stops on Opera the speed changes to unknown and it stops downloading.I don't have a wireless connection I use modem and my net connection should be okay since on my old comp with same net it worked without problem.

I'm trying to install an application, in this case Guild Wars 2. Things are going smoothly until the installation freezes. If I try to interact with the DVD drive via My Computer, Windows Explorer freezes up and I need to end the process and start it up again. The disk will not eject from the drive. If I try to reboot, it freezes on boot-up and I need to turn the computer completely off and on again for it to work. Once it boots up, it's returned to normal. If I try to reinstall Guild Wars 2, the whole issue repeats itself.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAnytime I have my external hard drive (2 TB Seagate Expansion) plugged into my computer (any USB port) and I try to shut down, it comes alive from sleep after being unused and spins up while Windows is in the blue backgrounded screen that says "Shutting down" and it just completely stops the process of shutting down, leaving it there for minutes and possibly more (can't remember how long at the longest, been so long since I left it plugged before shutting down and I usually just unpower the drive if it hangs).
What causes Windows to randomly start accessing the drive? It only has my movies and music and images and manual backups, so no program actually needs those files and at that phase with the shutting down screen, no other program should be running but the OS itself. I'm running Outlook 2010 with about 5 separate POP 3 accounts. I archive regularly and compact after archiving. After a lot of trouble cloning a new C drive to an SSD, Outlook, along with a lot of other software, began acting strangely. Everything has pretty much been resolved except for the Outlook problem.
For no reason I can isolate, Outlook will suddenly close, giving the message that it had to close and it will now try to retrieve my data. It does so, unless I was in the middle of composing an email - that will be gone! Sometimes, instead of closing, it freezes and says application not responding.
I checked the disk for errors using scan now and it's fine. I've run memtest and it's fine. I've run in safe mode and it just shut down with no comments. In working my way through suggestions on this board, I just ran Sysinternals Process Explorer until the error occurred and went back to normal. In looking at Process Explorer, I'm afraid the actual data is overwhelming to me. However, I'll attach everything I have.

the screen glitches with pink, white, and green tiles and lines, the cursor disappears, the screen goes black, and the hard drive stops spinning. All the lights on the front of the computer stay on, the fans stay on, and the monitor doesn't say anything about not receiving a signal. The first time it happened I tried turning it on right away and it booted up and let me sign in, but as it was loading the desktop and icons it glitched again, and froze. after I shut down and let it sit for a while it worked just fine until the next day when it did the same thing again, but twice in one day and with a shorter time between freezes. Today I had a WerFault.exe error pop up and when I clicked ok on it the bottom half of my screen turned pinkish and the computer froze when I restarted the pink tone was still there but it did not show up on any windows that I opened and when the background changed it went away.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using a decent Lenovo B560 laptop, and when playing games or running programs linked to the hard drive disk, it freezes intermittently.
Not sure what's causing it, but the whirring of the disk drive can be heard for about 3 seconds, at which point it slows down, and then the game freezes until the hard drive starts whirring again. It doesn't seem to be able to keep itself running in order to keep playback fluid; it just keeps spinning long enough to power 3-4 seconds of playback.

I have a ASUS Laptop with Intel I3 processer and Windows 7 Home Premium. I recently had a forced shutdown during a Windows upgrade session. Ever since then the Boot and Shutdown times have increased to over 15 minutes. I have run the msconfig unticking all but the antivirus (Kaspersky) and it still takes >15 min to boot and Shutdown. Is there something I can do before I decide to reinstall Windows &. (I dont have a install disk.) The software came with the Computer and I have the OEM code (Bought at Best Buy)

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a USB external hard drive that I keep all my documents etc on (had it for years)I upgraded from Vista Home to & Home Premium then had to upgrade recently to Professional to run my Sage. Through all these upgrades my ext. drive ran fine. Occasionally the drvie letter would change if I had something else plugged into the USB, this was always easily corected in disk management by changing the drive path.The connection on the case packed up so I had to get the drive put into a new case, now when I plug it in the drive is assigned G instead of F, I tried to change the drive letter allocation in Disk Management but it won't let me as the program still thinks I have a second ext. hard drive which is labelled F. I suspect this has happened because when the usb connection broke the drive was disconnected suddenly instead of a proper eject.How do I get Disk Management to remove the inactive drive - i can't find any obvious way - eject, delete etc are all missing when I click on tools or tasks.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two windows updates that keep failing. When i go to shutdown my computer I always have an update icon attached to the shutdown key. The download is always 1of1. Then when i reboot, the update icon is still there. I'm thinking since the two updates are failing, it has something to do with the 1of1 update not downloading properly. I went to windows update to check for new updates, and the only one is the two that keep failing. My computer just blue screened on shutdown today, winch got me thinking i really need to fix this.
