I have a Kingston 4 GB usb pen drive, I am able to store large files (>50MB) on computers running on xp.However, pen drive unable to store large files (>50MB) on computer running windows 7.No problem reading from usb, but when i write data on it , stops midway and usb drive disappears. Have formatted drive with both fat32 and NTFS, scanned fo errors, scanned for viruses but no improvement.
Unable to run windows on any mode normal or safe when running in prompt mode and ask it to run chkdsk it gives me the following the type of file is NTFS, Cannot lock current drive, Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected. Have tried hard drive on another machine same happens Have put a new Windows 7 on a another hard drive and when I try to run chkdsk on this hard drive?
I have 2 drives (connected one at a time to try and sort this issue) SONY AD-7260S and a LITE-ON
Now from upgarding to XP to 7 I had no issues until now... When inserting Disc (Blank or Data Files) the DVD Drive will hang and not ask what to do with the Disk and when I try to Burn the disc it will say cannot write to drive or just sit there doing nothing
Both these drives worked flawlessly with XP and only way to get the drive to recognise half the time with Windows 7 is to restart PC to either get it to show in Device Manager or press eject when booting to get the disk inside out.
Both drives are Sata and are only a few months old (not burned much and work exceeelnet on another xp machine)
I can't format my USB pen Drive, it shows the error as "The Disk is Write Protected".I tried various methods to solve this but all are not working.Like regedit.msc,devicemgmt.msc,DOS prompt & safe mode command prompt.
Well i tried to update Windows XP to Windows 7, but i can't upgrade it. It says i need to use files & settings transfer wizzard. But that only transfers settings & files. I want to keep the installed applications, but this isn't possible. Is there are a way to upgrade xp to 7 with all applications installed?
i am trying to upgrade my other laptop from vista home edition to windows 7 and i get through the install fine untill the later part. It installs everything and gets down to where the "complete installation" part is and it restarts, But when it comes back up the install just totally starts over. Acting as if i didnt eve just install it.
I am trying to perform a clean/custom install of Windows 7 Professional 32-bit on my VAIO SZ-650N. I have the upgrade disc and though its primary purpose is to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7, it is confirmed to work with clean installs as well. Since I want to perform a clean install, I must boot the installation from the disc and not within the OS. The problem is that when I insert the disc into the drive and start up the computer, it'll pause for a moment longer than usual, as if it detects that the CD is there, like I can hear the disc spinning in the drive, and this little gray underscore will blink on the screen, but it will never give me the "Press any key to boot from CD" message and it'll eventually just load up my OS.The disc is in perfect condition and I can view its contents and run it from within the operating system...I just can't boot from it. Even the directions for clean/custom installs that come with this disc say that it must be done from the disc, not when the OS is loaded. The problem can't possibly be my BIOS startup order, because first of all the disc drive is selected to load first thing and when I insert other bootable CD's such as my beta copy of Windows 7, I can boot from it fine.
Edit: It will not let me do a custom install from within the OS regardless because it is unable to detect any drives/partitions to install Windows 7 onto. And the "advanced" option isn't there...I'm guessing because it's impossible to wipe the drive clean when the OS is already loaded.
I had upgraded my laptop from Vista to Windows 7. I want to do a destructive reformat but nothing I try works. I was supposed to press one of the F keys (can't recall right now but have tried them all) and none of those work. Everything I have tried has failed. I really REALLY need to get this thing reformatted. I tried using the upgrade disk and now when I reboot it tries to upgrade Windows...which is turning into an all night process.
I am running windows 7 x64 on a core 2 quad. I can never seem to upgrade internet explorer 8 to 9. I keep receiving errors. I have deactivated all of the addons. My computer is completely up to date but for this one. I received error code:80246007 What should I do?
I have been using a 4GB Toshiba USB flash drive on my computer. All of a sudden the drive has started appearing write protected and I cannot add or delete any files on the drive. This is very surprising as I havent found any answer as to how can I remove the write protect thing and use my drive normally. The other thing is that the drive has no write protection switch to control it.
OK so since I have installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 on this computer ( it is the first operating system installed on it) I can not write any DVDs .A strange fact is that I can write and read CDs and also read DVDs, but not every time.I got an original CD Album and it's still not recognized by the PC for example, and this happens to many audio CDs.I tried many registry tricks and stuff like that but in vain. The computer is new, bought it one month ago. DVD+RW - Sony Optiaric AD-7260SI also tired to resolve the problem with FixIt but it was also useless.I kept getting the message: "The disc in drive [E:] is not detected, or is not supported"
Ive been googling this non stop and have found this seems to be a common error with USB drives. So far ive only been able to find fixes for windows XP by editing the reg, but that directory doesn't exist in windows 7.
Anyone know how i can fix the USB or force it to be formatted?
