View 1 Replies View RelatedI was debugging my code with WinDbg (novice user) trying to figure out an issue and I ran gflags.exe and enabled the checkbox for Application Verifier. I restarted WinDbg and Windows complained it couldn't start the application. I thought it was some weirdness with WinDbg, but then I noticed I couldn't run my web browser with the same error message. My machine eventually locked up on me so I said screw it, and I rebooted my machine.
Now when I start the machine it says Windows can't start, if I don't run the repair program it just hangs with a blinking underscore. I ran the repair program which says it will try to restore it, but this was at the end of the day on my work machine so I had to head home. I can understand how enabling Application Verifier could screw up an application, but how in the world did it bring my whole system down?
Windows 7 64-bit.
My PC goes through the BIOS stage and starts to load Windows 7, the GUI comes up and then it just stays there, goes into space with nothing happening. I have booted in Safe Mode and that works, but it won't boot into Safe with Command Prompt or Networking. I have tried the Repair my Computer option but that did not fix it. Then I did a System Restore but that did not fix it either. Not sure as to what to do next.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was installing an update when right in the middle it stops. If I try to restart windows it fails on the windows loading screen, forcing me to restore windows which I hate to do because it messes up my Flight Simulator program. I didn't get any error message it just completely goes dead and leaves me clueless.
View 4 Replies View RelatedNew HD in Dell Studio laptop, partitioned. Have tried valid/new DVD installing Windows 7 ultimate, custom, for clean install on clean drive. Gets through first 4 steps in install to first restart/reboot while in "completing installation" mode, and quits to black screen, no blinking cursor. Have reformatted partitioned drive to remove old Windows 7 efforts, but still no change. If I do Ctrl-alt-del, I get windows boot manager with 5 copies of Win 7 available. Advanced option f8 offers nothing. Memory diagnostics fine. Selecting any one of these Win 7 goes to blank screen, no cursor.

When i shut down my pc,it shuts down with no problem, but when i restart it,windows begins to load it and suddenly it stops.I need to turn off my pc for 5 mins, then it loads windows correctly.I can never restart my pc.The problem is not about windows 7,i had just change from xp.I was having the same problem with windows xp.Everything else is good in my pc,just i'm having this problem.
My USB mouse has been disconnecting on my for months now, and I thought it was a problem with the mouse, however, I bought a new one the other day and the problem persists. It goes like this: 5 minutes or two hours or more hours in, my mouse will stop responding. Sometimes there's a lead up of intermittent disconnecting and reconnecting, sometimes there isn't. Either way, it eventually goes down for good and will NOT respond until I restart the computer. The Keyboard and the speakers which are also powered by USB are fine, just the mouse is dead.
If I try to switch ports, the mouse is still dead. If I use a port on my usb hub, it's still dead. I'd searched and tried several fixes, like going to Advanced Power Options and disabling Selective Suspend. I've gone to Device Manager and unchecked: "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." Nothing has worked. For what it's worth, I think it happens quicker when I'm playing a video game like Sims 3 or Skyrim. That or it's just more annoying so it sticks in my mind more. Both of the mice I've been trying use the HID-Compliant Mouse driver.

I've been having problems with my computer. The monitor screen will randomly go black (a small grey window appears in the top-right corner as it tries switching between Analog mode and Digital mode, but the rest of the screen is completely black) and the sound from my speakers will completely cut out. When it happens, the computer won't respond to any keyboard or mouse commands, so I have no choice but to manually hold down the power button to shut it off, wait a few minutes, and restart it.
It seems to happen randomly, regardless of what I'm doing. Sometimes it happens after an hour, while I'm in the middle of playing a game or browsing the internet, sometimes it happens within 5 minutes of turning on the PC, while the system is idle. It started a month ago, and the attacks have occurred more frequently as time goes on. Now, it seems to happen within twenty minutes of start up, whereas before I could go an entire day without it happening.
My specifications are as follows:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 (3.4 GHz)
Motherboard: ASUS M4A88T-M
Graphics Card: ASUS AMD Radeon HD 6850 (EAH6850 DC/2DIS/1GD5/V2)
Hard Drive: Western Digital Green 3 TB (WD30EZRX)
RAM: Kingston 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (KHX1600C9D3P1K2/8G)
Power Supply: Antec 520W Neo Eco 520C
I also have a wireless network card, and a CD/DVD drive, but I don't know their details. If it's important and anyone requests, I can find out. All the components were bought new in February 2011, except for the hard drive and the RAM. Those are brand new, bought two days ago. (I purchased them to stop some Blue Screens of Death that also started occurring a month ago, caused by "faulty memory/hardware failure". The BSODs have stopped since I replaced the hard drive and the RAM, but the random video/audio loss hasn't stopped.)
I've recently built a new system from scratch, I can verify all the connectors are plugged in correctly and powered. Today I went out and bought a small internal 24x dvd drive to install my copy of windows 7 home premium OEM with and this is where my problems began. Whenever I set the dvd drive as the first boot option and put the OEM disc inside it, the screen stays black and does a Windows is Loading files bar across my screen I believe twice at varying speeds then disappears and leaves me with nothing but a black screen. I've waited and have it still sitting there blank at this very moment. I have done a lot of googling and only seen one other person with this same issue have his problem solved by resetting his BIOS to default. Needless to say this didn't work. I've tried changing all the storage settings from AHCI to IDE to RAID and disabling/enabling some setting in each with no luck. Below are the system specs.
Motherboard: ASrock gen3 extreme3 Z68 chipset
CPU: i5 2500k 3.30Ghz
GPU: AMD Radeon 6950 came factory set to 870 Mhz core clock (overclocked from 800)
RAM: 4x4 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 Mhz (I've also checked to make sure the proper voltage and frequency was used on these in the BIOS)
SSD: OCZ Agility 3 120GB
PSU: Coolermaster 1000W
Optical Drive: 24x Multiformat DVD/CD Writer with the obvious Sata connections to hook up to my mobo
This is my first pc build and I assume that asrock mobo's version of BIOS is UEFI.
Edit : I've tried removing 3 of my RAM sticks and now it just freezes with the grey bar fully loaded on Windows is Loading files. I then tried loading my old windows XP CD and it was working until it hit a BSOD which occurs consistently if I try to load XP. On more attempts at loading windows 7 it gets past the grey bar stage to the black screen not loading anything stage again.
I'm having a little problem with my PC (Windows 7 Pro 64bits), I can't shutdown it... The hard drive stops but the PC is always on (fans, lights and the screen stay on "shutting down". I tried to reinstall drivers and I verified if any service blocks the shutdown...

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a big problem this morning. My Windows 7 won't boot! All it does is restart at the loading screen. Win 7 is the only OS i have on the PC atm.
Apparantly i have a corrupted boot file and i have no idea how to fix it in win 7
it says: Root cause found:
Boot configuration is corrupt
Repair action: Partition table repair
Result: Failed. Error code = 0x490
Loaded 7Ultimate and got to Install screen. Selected drive and made new partition. Clicked next. Received error: Quote: Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more info. I don't know how to get to the logs, but what does this message mean? I have tried almost 6 or 7 times and even once with my 7 Home edition disk. Ran the startup repair a couple times. Tried formatting the drive from my XP Pro sp3 disk.So now here's where the real problem comes in: ERROR LOADING OPERATING SYSTEM. Now I can't get back into XP! Tried booting from ERD Commander 05, but I get an error code 4096 with that, and "File SETUPREG.HIV could not be loaded".How can I get XP back to booting properly? Maybe it's a faulty hard drive and needs returning. But it is extremely important that I get this computer back up and running immediately.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post and wasn't sure which exact board to post to so I thought installation might be one. I have a windows 7 64bit machine installed on a 250gb hdd. Here is the exact sequence of events. Shutdown computer last night (it had been on for 2 days straight). Turned it on this morning, bios screen loads fine then it jumps to a black screen with the text "Loading Operating System..." and it hangs there. I tried multiple configurations to detect the problem. I feared for the life of my hdd. I unplugged my other 2 hdd and the dvd drive from power and sata and rebooted. Now I get "Loading Operating System..." BOOT DRIVE FAILED INSERT CD AND PRESS ENTER TO CONTINUE. Re-install any other drive combo and get the standard hang screen. I made no major changes to my setup in the last 2 days, no software, no windows update, no hardware changes whatsoever.
View 4 Replies View Relatedtoday I have ran into a troublesome problem. When I turn on my computer, after 10-20 minutes it would BSOD then crash before I even have a chance to read it. After it restarts it will said that it is unable to boot and select a boot device. When I go into the BIOS the moment it restarts my hard drive would not appear there, but if I turn off the computer and turn it back on it would appear again as the selected boot device, but will soon later crash once more.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been googling and browsing forums for the last several hours and have not found my exact error. The only time I'm getting the error svchost.exe unable to start error 0xc0000142 error is when I'm trying to shutdown and reboot. Windows 7 will force a restart, and after a while will eventually close the error window (x'ing out of it does not work, nor does clicking ok), and reboot, and all seems fine otherwise, but it's beginning to really bug me. I've tried just about all the fixes suggested, and have cleaned and recleaned my registry and run other diagnostics, and everything looks okay.

I'm running Outlook 2010 with about 5 separate POP 3 accounts. I archive regularly and compact after archiving. After a lot of trouble cloning a new C drive to an SSD, Outlook, along with a lot of other software, began acting strangely. Everything has pretty much been resolved except for the Outlook problem.
For no reason I can isolate, Outlook will suddenly close, giving the message that it had to close and it will now try to retrieve my data. It does so, unless I was in the middle of composing an email - that will be gone! Sometimes, instead of closing, it freezes and says application not responding.
I checked the disk for errors using scan now and it's fine. I've run memtest and it's fine. I've run in safe mode and it just shut down with no comments. In working my way through suggestions on this board, I just ran Sysinternals Process Explorer until the error occurred and went back to normal. In looking at Process Explorer, I'm afraid the actual data is overwhelming to me. However, I'll attach everything I have.
Event Viewer shows Error 1000. General:

View 7 Replies View RelatedOne particular site that is not loading at all, on any browsers on my computer is [URL]. There are many more that fail to load as well. I did test these sites on my iPhone with no problems though. There are a handful of other sites that do open but do not load properly [missing images, ect.] I also thought that it might be malware but I installed & scanned my computer with four different programs which did not solve the problem. I'm guessing that it still may be some problem on the software side with settings but I can't seem to figure out where to look. BTW, I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials as my antivirus program for the past couple of days now. Prior to that I was using Avira but it seemed to be giving me problems so I uninstalled it and installed the Microsoft app.

Also is there a way to control which drives the system is defragmenting?
