Windows 7 Cannot Install, Unable To Boot To XP ERROR LOADING OS?

Dec 7, 2010

Loaded 7Ultimate and got to Install screen. Selected drive and made new partition. Clicked next. Received error: Quote: Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more info. I don't know how to get to the logs, but what does this message mean? I have tried almost 6 or 7 times and even once with my 7 Home edition disk. Ran the startup repair a couple times. Tried formatting the drive from my XP Pro sp3 disk.So now here's where the real problem comes in: ERROR LOADING OPERATING SYSTEM. Now I can't get back into XP! Tried booting from ERD Commander 05, but I get an error code 4096 with that, and "File SETUPREG.HIV could not be loaded".How can I get XP back to booting properly? Maybe it's a faulty hard drive and needs returning. But it is extremely important that I get this computer back up and running immediately.

Error: 0x80300001 - Windows Is Unable To Install

Nov 12, 2009

I'm trying to install Windows 7 64 bit on one our computers that had XP 32 bit. I'm doing a clean install and have already formatted and partitioned the hard drive. The problem I'm having is that now it won't let me install windows 7. When you highlight the system partition it shows and error, which states, "Windows is unable to install to the selected location, Error: 0x80300001" I thought I might need a SATA driver for the hard drive but I haven't been able to locate the right one if thats the problem.

Unable To Install Windows Updates, Error 80246008

Jun 11, 2012

For the past 2-3 months I've been receiving the same error in Windows Update every time I try and update: Error 80246008. I've tried the Microsoft Fix It application and the same problem occurs. I took a look into the services and when I try to start one service required by Windows Update it always fails because its core services are not launched, so I tried to launch those and those won't even launch.

Install Windows 7 And Error: Setup Was Unable To Create New Partition

Jan 16, 2013

I tried to dual boot Fedora 18 with my Windows 7. They are on two different hard drives. Fedora 18 worked but I was unable to boot up Windows 7. Frustrated, I decided to just delete everything from all the hard drives and try to do a clean install of Windows 7 using the USB-DVD Windows tool to make a USB Windows 7 installer. I then got the following error when trying to install Windows onto my hard drive:

"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information"

I tried unplugging the other hard drives and got the same error. I also went to the command prompt and used Diskpart and did clean all. Still the error shows up. Something that might be useful is that when I did disk list in the command prompt it showed my hard drive but with 0 free space. Not sure if this is useful but the drive I want Windows 7 on is a solid state drive but the one I had Fedora on is a normal hard drive and I had an extra harddrive that I used for storage that is a normal hard drive as well.

Unable To Install McAfee Virus Software Due To Windows Update Error

I'm having a major virus/malware issue as my McAfee firewall protection stopped working suddenly. Called McAfee to reinstall the virus software and they were unable to install it. They said that since my Windows Update feature is not working (there is a big red X and updates are not downloading and installing) the McAfee installation is failing. Asked me to fix this issue first and then try McAfee installation.

Unable To Boot Device Error?

Jan 30, 2012

My friend's desktop PC had this issue, it runs Win 7, is an HP and is just one year old. It either gives the "Unable to boot device error", or asks for the Windows CD that he doesn't have (bought it at a department store, it came with Win7 original installation but no CD). It doesn't open Windows. It still recognizes it as a hard drive in the BIOS screen, the startup order was never altered and should be Hard Drive then CD/DVD. Searching for a quick solution he found suggestions to try and change from AHCI to IDE in the BIOS and at last it got to Windows startup. Win7 in safe mode prompts him a repair mode that's going on for two hours.I downloaded the hard drive maker's tools for diagnostics (they're burnable on a cd) and will try them if this windows repair mode keeps going on indefinitely.

Unable To Install Windows To Hitachi Hard Drive - Disk Read Error

Nov 11, 2012

Then my desktop PC displayed messages telling me my firewall and virus software had been turned off and the computer crashed. ROOTKIT? So I was left with 2 drives not working. I re installed windows on desktop but using ISO on flash drive BUT can't on the 500GB Hitachi HTS545050B9SA00 for some reason. Windows setup loaded and Deleted old partitions and formatted. When I tried to install, it froze. It now just boots up with a windows loading screen and I'm also unable to boot from flash drive as it freezes. This is on a Sony Vaio VPCEB4E4E.

Unable To Install, No Error Message

Jan 16, 2009

I've been trying to get Windows 7 working for a couple days, without success. A friend of mine told me about this forum, so I figured I's try my luck and ask my fellow Windows users.

I have a valid, working copy of Windows 7 build 7000x32 on disk. The same disk has been used on other computers and works fine. However on my machine, it begins the installation just fine, until it reaches the blue Windows 7 background screen. Then it stops. No error, it just stops working.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I find it extremely frustrating.

Unable To Boot Or Perform Upgrade Install

Feb 13, 2013

Recently my PC's registry became corrupted, leaving me unable to boot. As I really want to keep my files, programs, settings etc I would much prefer to do an Upgrade install than perform a Custom one and wipe everything.

However, the Windows 7 disk insists I boot into Windows before performing the upgrade installation, which is the one thing I cannot do due to my corrupt registry. Compatibility Report is as follows:

Compatibility Report

The computer started using the Windows installation disk. Remove the installation disk and restart the computer so that Windows starts normally. Then, insert the installation disk and restart the upgrade.

This is a frustrating cycle. I can't boot Windows, so I try to perform an Upgrade Install, which I can't do because I have to boot Windows.

Things I've tried:

- Various chkdsk commands, none of which have worked due to my drive seeming to be write protected

- System restore, which I was unable to do as apparently System Protection must be enabled on the drive and I'm unsurehow to do this

- All of the registry repair tools on Hiren's boot CD, all of which are either irrelevant to the problem or have given me error messages

As I have Hiren's CD I can access my hard drive through Explorer, so would it be possible to use Mini XP to attempt the Upgrade Install? If this isn't possible, how else can I repair my registry?

Unable To Install: Unattended File Error

Dec 1, 2009

I am trying to install with the downloadable executable from the student discount program, the files are located on an external hard drive.

I downloaded Windows 7 last night and started the install, it got up to the point where it checked for Vista SP1 and stopped. I had reinstalled Vista recentely and forgotten to install it.

I quit the Windows 7 install and installed SP1 for Vista. Now every time I try to launch the Windows 7 install I get the following error:

"The unattend answer file contains an invalid product key. Either remove the invalid key or provide a valid product key in the unattend answer file to proceed with Windows installation."

I tried deleting the temp file that was in the same directory as the install files for Windows 7 as well as deleting the expanded set up directory and letting it re unpack the files.

Dual Boot Setup - Unable To Identify Network Error

Mar 3, 2012

Just today I decided to download the Windows 8 consumer preview and setup my PC to dual boot with it.I am running Windows 7 home premium 64bit and the 64 bit windows 8 on my other partition. After setting up a separate partition on my hard drive and loading windows8 to this partition, I was all up and running. I had no problems setting up or running windows 8, the problem came when I booted back to windows 7 for the first time. When I booted into windows 7, I was getting the "unable to identify network" error, and no network connectivity.

First thing I tried was simply disable/enabling my network adapter thinking it was just some hiccup. No luck there. Next I pulled the power from my router, and let it completely reboot. Still no luck. I then shut down my pc and booted back into windows 8 and sure enough I am able to get internet connectivity when I am running windows 8. This got me to thinking that when I loaded windows 8 there may be some new drivers installed for my network card that are somehow causing issues when I load into windows 7 again. Not sure how this is possible.

I was under the understanding that when I loaded Win8 to the separate partition that it would keep all it's drivers and settings there and not effect anything when I was loaded back on windows 7 (This logic could be completely wrong, I don't know). So I rebooted and loaded back into windows 7, went into device manager and uninstalled both network adapters and drivers, and rebooted into windows 7 again so it could re-discover and setup the network cards with default windows 7 drivers. This did not work either and I am still getting the same error.

Status: 0xc00000e9 Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.I have tried my 2 SSD drives in Raid 0 and also a single HDD with the same results. My DVD writer is an IDE model, but I can't think that this is the problem since the first time I used this drive and the same original Windows 7 Ultimate Disc there were no problems.I even went as far and got a PS2 keyboard to avoid any USB devices and also downloaded a full untouched version of Windows 7 with the same error! Windows 7 / XP Dual Boot Install Error-even After Following Tutorials?

Aug 11, 2012

I have a Windows 7 installation (x64). I wanted to install windows xp 32 in a dual boot scenario for some backwards compatibility hardware issues (video stuff).Anyway, I read the various tutorials and I have used nlite to put sata drivers into my win xp install iso/cd.My problem is that windows xp won't I get the hard drive error message DURING the install (ie, the first time xp asks you to reboot, but long before it tries its various installation things) have tried the various things associated with this, Easybsd, a Windows 7 restore and using fixmbr/etc. I can get BACK into windows 7, but setting up the menu is pointless because xp never installs correctly to begin with. It seems that the guides on fixing this error message are assuming you get it after xp completes its install and tries to boot -- instead, I am getting the error DURING the install. I get a /windows directory on my partition, but it clearly isn't a complete install because I never see the windows install screens with the pictures, estimated time, etc.

Error When Trying To Boot Install Disc

Sep 6, 2009

I recently downloaded a copy of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit through MSDN, burned the iso to a dvd using ImgBurn (Auto write speed) and then attempted to boot the disc.

The computer tries to load the files off the disc, and then this error pops up:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

File: windowsystem32ootwinload.exe

status: 0xc0000001

info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.

I checked the file location, and the file was there. I decided to do a factory image restore (probably stupid of me) since I had already backed up all my files and was planning on doing a clean install of 7 anyway.

I then tried the boot again, but got the same error, even though I was under the impression that factory restore would fix any corrupted system files. Since, for all intents and purposes, my computer is "new", and there's nothing on it now except for what came with it, I'm at a loss as to what could be causing the problem.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720, running Vista 32 bit Home Premium. Intel Core Duo processor, 2.4 GHz.

Error Loading Operating System For Windows 7?

Aug 5, 2010

I had to mess about getting rid of the virus but it left residual files that were causing me even more problems. One of those files, veawi.sys, refused to go away as everytime i tried to delete it i would get a message stating that "a device attached to the system is not working" or something along that line.

Anyway, i tried to get rid of it by installing Windows XP to a USB hard drive that i have lying around so that i could use the command prompt to delete the file from the windowssystem32drivers directory. That didn't work as i would get the message "NTLDR is missing" and my Windows 7 installation wouldn't boot either as i'd get the message "Error loading operating system". To add insult to injury i found, after using the installion disc for Windows 7, that i could have just used the command prompt in the repair section of the disc which allowed me to get rid of the culprit file.

I've tried running the startup repair from the Windows 7 disc and it states that there are no errors found. For the first time in ages i'm stuck and i get the feeling that i'm going to have to reinstall Windows 7 all over again.
