How To Recover System To Factory Settings

Sep 10, 2011

Recently I was attacked with malware and I had no internet security. It messed up some programs, changed the description of processes etc. I read up on how to get rid of malware and such, and I got Malwarebytes, SpyBot - search&destroy, and finally Avast! computer antivirus. After running scans with malwarebytes and Spybot, removing all the trojans and programs that were affected, I used ccleaner to clean the registry. Although I did all that, it seems like there is still something in my computer because spybot keeps scanning the same files over and over, and both Malwarebytes and Avast! keep saying that a malware threat had been stopped, while showing a URL that I never even connected to. Sometimes it even happends when internet explorer is off. what I really want to do is to restore my PC to the factory settings and start with a fresh NEW system. I'll make sure to get AVAST right away to insure security. As for backing up files, I'm afraid that the virus would somehow be in certain files and infect my computer again. Nothing really important that I'd lose. So I don't really mind so much to do a full factory reset.

Fresh Install Of Windows 7 Always Goes To System Recover Options?

Nov 3, 2011

I have a Gateway T-1625 laptop. it has 2 gb of ram, 500 gb hdd, and an amd turion 64x2 processor. It came with win vista and am trying to upgrade to win7. I ran the disk, everything seemed to go fine, all the way up to setting the time and date. After the restart, it goes to "System Recovery Options" and asks for language. Next screen says "select an operating system to repair and click next. Only win vista operating systems are listed and can be repaired". My problem now is only win7 is listed. My options are to load drivers or next. I have read in a few places to load drivers, but i read them after trying to install win 7. I don't know where to look for drivers if that might be the case. If i click next, i get the "choose a recovery tool" and it states the operating system is win7 located on (C Local Disk. I have tried the startup recovery several times to no avail. When i look at the details, there are 10 problem signatures. The ones that look odd to me are the "Signature 1 SystemDisk" and "Signature 6 OsVersionMismatch". Like most idiots, i thought i could handle a simple installation and didn't bother to look for tips before hand, and now it's costing me.

Windows 7 System Recover - Repair Option Missing

Feb 25, 2011

I am attempting to run a complete system recovery (factory restore) on Windows 7 using a recovery partition. Last time I ran the recovery, I ended up having a lot of problems with system programs not being installed correctly, and with the system administrator account. Now, when I reboot and use the F8 option to bring up the boot options, I do not have an option to "Repair your computer" as I had before. I also tried rstrui.exe through the command prompt, but it only tells me that "No restore points have been created on your computer's drive. To create a restore point open System Protection."

I also checked my drives through DISKPART to make sure there were no problems with the recovery partition, but it is showing up normal. On the Windows knowledge database it said that if the system recovery options are missing, then the system is not installed with the options or they were disabled by the network administrator. Given that I had no problems accessing these the last time I ran the recovery, I'm assuming something happened with the account. I am set up with 1 user in the system, which is the administrator.

1) Re-enabling the options so that I can access the "Repair your computer" options on the boot menu.

2) Run the system recovery options without having to get into the bootup menu.

Undo Or Recover Lost Files From System Restore In SAFE MODE?

Oct 27, 2011

I am familiar with System Restore, selecting earlier times, and the often-available option of undoing a System Restore. But I found out (too late) that according to Microsoft, System Restore done in Safe Mode is not able to be undone.I lost 1,000's of photos doing the system restore, now the only restore point option visible is what I believe to be the new one after I did the restore. Prior to me doing the System Restore, there were a number of times from me to choose from, I just chose one that was 10 days ago. Is there any software, method, or hack that I can use or do to recover the thousands of photos that were on my desktop and that were in folders on my desktop? It's a 1 TB HD?

Unable To Delete System Folders From A Drive No Longer Being Used As A System Drive

Mar 21, 2012

I recently reorganized my computer and this included a fresh install of Windows 7 on a new disk. I backed up all my data on the old disk so that I could make sure I wasn't losing any important documents or whatever.I'm now sure I've got everything off the disk that I needed and am using the disk as a storage disk for media. However, there are still folders that I can't seem to erase in the Program Files, Program Files (x86), and Windows directories. Most of the files are gone but about 12GB of junk remains that I no longer need. Whenever I try to delete what is left, it says I need permission from TrustedInstaller and it won't let me delete these files. Is there any way to blow these directories away without having to format the disk? I really can't format because the disk is almost full with data that I need to keep and I don't really have any other disks to temporarily back these files up to.

Unable To Create A New System Partition Or Locate An Existing System Partition

Aug 13, 2012

I have a copy of windows 7 from a friend. (USB, possibly enterprise)It runs well, is official and can be re installed and is verified through the Microsoft site, so the media doesn't seem to be a problem.I was able to install Win7 Ult x64 on my WinVista HomePrem x86, but I went back through to clean the hard drive (it was full, I didn't format before) and after low level formatting I cannot reinstall the OS. The harddrives are completely empty, and I get stuck at "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition," after hitting next when you are selecting the HD partition to install on. I tried a couple of things already:

-Installing on another harddrive
-Formatting using Hiren's bootcd
-Using a hard drive with XP installed to see if it is an upgrade and not a full version (no luck, still wouldn't install)
-diskpart > list disk > select disk 0 > list partition > active \ in cmd..I have three hard drives attached to the computer right now, they can't all be broken. T.T

Unable To Boot System

Nov 9, 2012

I'm having a problem I cannot seem to fix at all. I'll provide the backstory and what steps I've tried to take to resolve the problem, but I'm literally at a place where I don't know what to do. My ultimate end goal is to just recover personal files from my old hard drive and that's it. I don't care how I access that drive, I just need to access it. The problem is I can't no matter how hard I try.

So a week ago I was having problems with my computer. Lots of blue screen errors (unfortunately I don't have those numbers anymore) and even after try to do chkdsk, running repair programs, defragging, etc., nothing seemed to help. I had a 1TB HDD partitioned into two sections. I backed up my personal files to the second partition (the one without Windows) and then tried to do a repair of the Windows installation. That didn't help, so I just wiped that first partition and did a fresh install of Windows. Everything seemed to be working great, no errors, no BSOD, nothing. So I moved back my personal files to the partition with windows on it (my second partition is where I hold all my games) and called it a night after I had gotten everything back to normal.

The next day my computer is on and it suddenly just turns itself off. When I restarted it I got a blue screen error that flashed on my screen and immediately rebooted the computer. When it tried the second time I got another BSOD, this one giving me the error of 0x00000024. I tried booting last known good config, safe mode, disk repair... seems no options can get me back into Windows.

Unable To Create A System Image On DVD

Nov 3, 2009

I have Win 7 64 bit installed on my laptop as well as my desktop. System images for both are on external HD's.

On the laptop, I have created a system image on blank DVD's using DVD-R's. No problems -- I can restore from the DVD's.

However, when I try to create a system image on blank DVD-R's on my desktop, I get a message saying something like, "format was unsuccessful." If I use a DVD+RW the process runs to completion and I can restore from it. I had to use RW's because I don't have and +R's.

I get the same unsuccessful message if I try to format a blank DVD-R with Win 7.

My DVD burner on the desktop says it is a +R. Does that mean I can't use -R's.

I've no idea whether this is a Win 7 problem, burner problem or a problem on my part.

Would someone please try to straighten out the dense old mind?
