I have just performed a full system restore on my Dell XPS L501 with Windows 7, but now it won't boot up. I get a 'Bootmgr is missing' message. I think I might have to try re-installing Windows but did not receive a disk with the PC. Anything else I should try?
View 1 RepliesWhen I start my laptop, it shows the HP logo, begins to boot and is almost instantly interrupted by a white screen that scrolls down from the top. It reboots right after the white screen.I am able at the HP logo screen able to navigate to System Restore and that is where I run into my next problem.When the System Restore window opens for confirmation it shows that "Local Disk (C) (System)" status: "Ready to restore" and the check-box next to it is checked.The next line has a empty check-box for "Local Disk (C)" with the status: "The drive cannot be found." I can also successfully boot into Safe Mode with Networking. I can access all my files. Which leads me to believe that it is a hardware problem. Possibly the motherboard or graphics card.

System restore failed while restoring the registry from the restore point. The restore point was damaged or was deleted during the restore.
I have tried restoring in Safe Mode.I have deleted all restore points and turned off sys protection, rebooted and turned System protection back on.I have uninstalled Kaspersky (my system protection).I have made sure Volume Shadow Copy is started.
Well, unfortunately, I�m having the same problem of PaulyC."show more restore points dates" IS checked but it does not show anything before 16 december, TWO days ago.

I recently did a Clean install of WIN 7 from scratch (after reloading the manufacturers settings), download Microsoft Updates and Kaspersky 2013. However I am unable to restore from my backup Drive (D), Win accepts the command and identifies the File/s to be restored, yet on completion the files do not appear to have been restored after a restart.
I recently downloaded a damaged file, which caused my computer (not this one) to be unable to start up normally. The computer now boots up in Startup repair, which is unable to repair my computer "automatically" and when I then click "View advanced options for system recovery and support" and go to the "System restore" tab and choose a Date and time for the restoration, it tells me that "There is not enough free space to restore the disk". I seem to have no options to try and sort out the missing space on the harddisk, which should be unnecessary because I am pretty sure there is still alot of disk space on the C.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi got a hp pavillion running windows 7 i was installing the windows update and pressed restart now, after this the force restart thing came up but i pressed cancel and it didnt like this, after 2 minutes of program errors it restarted and went straight into startup repair. running it on normal mode doesnt work and safe mode is not available. when it runs startip repair it wont fix anything and tells me to restore, i can get to the windows restore part and have restore points but they do not work and an error is shown, x8000xffff if i remember correctly.

Everytime I try to update it tells me it is checking for updates...Then "To check for updates, you must first install an update for Windows Update. Your automatic Updating settings will not change." I click Install now and get "Window could not search for new updates"An error occured while checking for new updates for your computer. Error(s) Found Code 80070643 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.
This problem first came to light a year ago when I downloaded a windows update that was corrupt.It forced the computer to loop the autocheck upon boot and could only be started in safe mode or by canelling the check.After looking through the forums I found an interim fix which disabled the autocheck and since have always recieved the message upon restarting "Autocheck program not found".I naturally thought this issue would be resovled in the next update and or a future fix.I had to go away for work at the start of this year and when I got back and windows updated it still had the autocheck message.Recently I have been unable to update at all due to the aforementioned error. The simplest soultion it would seem would be to do a system restore, this I have tried however every possible point seems to have a corrupt file on it.I ran a scan using Malwarebytes and found nothing.I don't want to format as the programs came pre installed and that would mean taking to back to the shop.

I created a backup of my old registry before cleaning and I can access it using the command prompt that you can access in the system restore options. View 7 Replies View RelatedOK, so a couple of days ago, my HP desktop crashed and then went through the whole System Recovery loop(I couldn't login to Safe mode, wouldn't let me past the System Recovery Screen). Well I backed up the entire C drive using Backup your files in the menu. Then it shows you all the file types it will back up; i.e photos, videos, e-mails and bookmarks. So I did that to an external hard drive and it comes out to 143GB.Now comes my problem. I've been able to copy everything from the external hard drive using RecoveryMgr.exe which opens the WIM files and saves them to my C: hard drive under System Recovery Files. However it does not seem to work when it comes to putting in my old Thunderbird e-mails, contacts and such or in Firefox to restore my bookmarks, saved passwords.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a strange problem with 2 displays connected to my ATI HD4770 Video Card running the latest 10.12 drivers and AMD Control Center.
I have 2 displays connected to the card.
The display 1 (Samsung Syncmaster 225BW) runs at 1680 x 1050 and is the Main display with the Windows 7 Start Menu.
The display 2 (Phillips Brillance 230W) runs at 1920 x 1200. Physically it is located on the left side of display one.
I arrange the display either by using the Display / Screen Resolution Control Panel Applet or the Catalyst Control Center Desktops & Displays Applet.
Both works fine (drag display 2 to the left side of display 1, chance resolution from 1680 x 1050 to 1920 x 1200.
But when I restart my machine, after the reboot has finished and the desktop appears, my display settings are exactly as before the reboot.
But when Catalyst Control Center loads, it switches the display and reduces the resolution of the bigger one to that of the smaller main display.
Every time I have to manually restore my custom display settings (Arrangement, different resolution) Is there someone in Windows 7 forum which is expert for ATI and CCC running multiple displays in handling those glitches?
everytime I create a restore point on windows 7, it disappears upon a reboot.

So I backed up my files to a flashdrive and did a system recovery. I have files on the flash drive but cannot transfer them back to the laptop. Yes I know I could possibly do it in 'Safe Mode' but that isn't an answer as to why I can't do it in regular mode?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSystem restore failed to extract the file. from the restore point. There was a disk failure during the restore. This might be caused by bad sectors on the disk. I get the same message, but with a different file name, with every restore point I try, and I have now tried all seven available restore points, going back to 30 Dec 2011. The computer was working perfectly until 3 days ago when it blue screened, and has not started properly since. It is a Corei5 with 4 GB RAM and is only 12 months old. I just dont believe the drive has that many bad sectors.

I installed Ubuntu 12.04, the installation smooth as butter, but after a few days of usage, the GRUB system screwed up. After a LOT of problems I managed to restore my Laptop to its default configuration. Then, I tried to restore my personal files with the DVDs I made, but when the manager finished, it only showed a folder with all my files in it! And it didn't give me any option to restore these files or something!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an ASUS N51Vf on which I just changed a defective hard drive with a new one, same size and specs as the old.After a clean windows 7 install all was working fine. I created a System Restore Point. No errors reported, restore point created.I then tried to restore all my data and settings with a back up I had on a external hard drive.This back up has been made with LaCie Genie Back up Assistant, a program with decent review online.After having finished to restore the back up, I was asked to restart windows, which I did. Windows restarted but then it failed to log in giving an error (which appears to be quite common googling it). A window pop up saying "Interactive logon process initialization has failed. Please consult the event log for more details."If you say ok the windows keeps appearing again and again.There was no way to access windows whatever mode (safe, normal and all the other boot option appearing when pressing f8) I choosed. Startup repair was as well ineffective (since there was no problem in the startup process itself.)
People online reported the only way to fix this was to check the event log files on another computer. So I installed Ubuntu on the unallocated space I left when installing win 7, I copied the logs files, I went through all the errors in the event viewer of another computer, particularly those in application.evtx, I copied safe version of winlogon.exe logonUI.exe and userInit.exe on windows/system32 through Ubuntu but nothing worked. Same error preventing log in.I then went into the System Restore Point nasty affair. As I previously mentioned, I created this point prior to restore the LaCie backup. The Restore point was there, accessible through the standard recovery options. What appears is this: standard final window of System Restore and I couldn't select any of this drive and proceed.So I go to the Command Prompt and I realize that windows has been installed on D:, not on C:, which appears to be the system reserved partition with 70Mb free. Something standard when you install Windows 7 apparently. Since my backup was made copying files from C: and I didn't care for the path when restoring my LaCie backup, I thought I messed up things attempting to copy to the wrong drive, even though no error was reported to me.So I formatted everything, reinstalled windows paying attention not to create other partitions. Clean install, all went through fine. I check on Computer what's the windows unit label, and it is C indeed. I didn't check for the presence of other partitions. I re-restore files from the LaCie Backup. At the end I try to create a new System Restore point, but a weird error tells me that I can't. Already suspicious, I restart, to find myself on the exact same position as before, unable to login, unable to restore (both same as previously described) and, moreover, checking through command prompt, win 7 appears to be in the D: unit again with the C: set up to be the system reserved!!
Two Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit computers on the same network, the desktop has a printer shared that the laptop would like to access. The oddness began after I managed to get the laptop to access the desktop via Start > Run > \desktop, successfully connected up the printer via filesharing and tested it, but every time I restart the laptop it decides that it can't find the desktop any more.

Lately whenever i try to start my computer it pass the Dell Bios and then directly goes to the screen which states
Repair your system or Start windows normally When i chose repair system , it start downloading windows files and then launch the windows , but hung up at the sky blue login window with only movable cusor . When i choose to start windows normally it gives me BSOD momentarly ( hard to see the message) and then restarts again . i tried with the advanced boot up options like
repair my computer , all safe modes , restore to last good configuration but it does the same and hangs at windows loging sky blue window .I Tried to run the Dell PSA+ Diagnostic and it returns with 2000-0146 error . As per the Dell online solutions for this type of error ,I tried to reinstall the Hard disk but the problem still exist.
Using preinstalled Win 7 Home Premium 64bit on an HP 6813w Pavilion. The original hard drive, a Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 1Tb crashed.1) System Recovery discs was made along with a System Recovery with System Image disc.2) A more current System Image was made on an external hard drive.The Hitachi was replaced with the same model. Checked bios to make sure it was installed correctly.Under System Recovery, Image Restore, Select a System Image Backup there is nothing in the table to choose from as far as a source (disc drive or external drive).A) System Recovery (3 discs) has the HP preinstall file folder on the 3rd disc but is not read by the System Recovery program.B) Under System Restore, Image Restore, Advanced, it asks for a network or driver to be installed. That opens up the directory of C: which is the external hard drive. Under WindowsImageBackup the computer name is identified followed by three entries:[CODE]It seems to me the Recovery and System Restore discs are not functional. Am not a technical person but I have taken this as far as I know how at this point.Printed out all the instructions from HP and Microsoft to follow step by step but the failed discs will not allow me to move forward.

We just had some very heavy rains with lightening and my computer shut down several times, but I could restart it each time...except for the last time when Windows wouldn't startup. At that point, Start Up Repair came into play. Although I routinely backup on an external drive, of course I never did it this month-DUH!Results from SUR were error free (error code=0x0) on all the parameters tested, however there were the following error codes reported:"Unspecified change to the system configuration might have caused the problem." Failed: 0x1fRepair Action: System FilesFailed: x490There were more options to select for a recovery task, but I didn't try them as they didn't seem to be as salient as the two above.
