I am facing a troublesome problem.I am not able to shut down my system after use.whnever i click on the shut down option it remains idle. BUT WHEN i switched off d power option D system goes off and again when i switched it on there is no rebooting and directly desktop appears.
de i m using lenovo y serious laptop which was pre installed window vista home basics but due to bad performance of vista. i have installed window 7 ultimate which is not genuine......so while using my system for long duration of time, sometimes system gets shut down automatically without giving shut down command. i m using my system from last 4 years but this problem has created recently.
So my system randomly froze up and shut down. System repair starts up but can not find a problem. I could care less about anything saved on my comp so I would just like to restore to factory settings.I put in the disk provided by iBuyPower to restore and when I try to, I get an error saying "not enough hdd space". I also can not get to a restore point as for some reason, there are none showing available now.I can not get to the desktop at all. Can not start in safe mode.
I have a Dell XPS1530 laptop and lately, I have been experiencing issues with shutting the system down. I have Windows 7 loaded onto it (32-bit) which I installed shortly. What happens is this: I will turn the laptop on to do some work - that can range from transferring music from iTunes to my phone, working in Microsoft Word, or using Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator. I will work on something anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours and when I finish up, I close all of the programs before I go to shutdown the machine.
I click the Windows button in the lower-left of my screen and select "Shutdown" but nothing happens. I will wait up to 15 minutes and still Nothing. If I try and open a program like Firefox it won't open after I've selected "Shutdown." It's like the machine is stuck on something. Also, I tried running my virus software to see if there was a problem, but it got stuck around 89% done and just sat there for 12 hours before I told it to stop.
For a while i have come across this annoying problem with my system. When I press the shut down button on the start menu it just restarts. Its not always but when it happens ,it continously restarts until i get pissed and just press reset and immediately press the cabinet power button when the POST screen comes.
i have a dell latitude d430 and I accidentally shut it down whilst it was configuring updates. Now, when turning on all i get is the 'configuring updates stage 3 of 3 0% complete' and then it appears to restart and do it all over again.
I was using my Dell laptop today. All of a sudden the OS just shut everything down quickly and shut down. There was no error or anything like that. It just shut down.
Upon booting, I was given a screen to enter the bitlocker recovery key. I tracked it down and entered it into the laptop. The laptop then tried to boot, but blue screened. In typical MS fashion, the blue screen showed for about 1/352352th of a second so I couldn't get any real information about the error.
I tried the boot system recover option that the os presented. I tried the option to recover from the last recovery point or to recover the other way. Each time the system booted back to the same problem.
This has been happening since May of this year. I had cleaned a part that had a lot of built-up dust. After I turned on the laptop, I went ahead and put it to sleep. However, instead of the computer going into standby, it automatically shuts down.
It is a Lenovo 3000 G530 that runs Windows 7 HP 32-bit
I had a power loss while installing a windows update about two months ago. Ever since then my system will hang either on logging off or shutting down.I have tried making a new user (No Help)it hangs in safe mode also.I also do not have a list of prior updates in control panel since this problem. The system works fine other than that.
I have my HP Laptop which came with Windows Vista as the OS. I want to upgrade to Windows 7 so I bought Windows 7 from my local store.I entered the disc and did boot from CD. It reached to the page where it shows the disk partition. I deleted the partitions and created new one. However, whenever I create the partition, it creates a primary one and gives me error saying Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition.
I have made a reformat on my hdd to install Win 7. But during install this message comes" Setup was unable to create a new system partiton or locate an exsisting system partiton" And if I start my computer without a DVD this message comes in the end "BOOTMGR IS MISSING"
I recently reorganized my computer and this included a fresh install of Windows 7 on a new disk. I backed up all my data on the old disk so that I could make sure I wasn't losing any important documents or whatever.I'm now sure I've got everything off the disk that I needed and am using the disk as a storage disk for media. However, there are still folders that I can't seem to erase in the Program Files, Program Files (x86), and Windows directories. Most of the files are gone but about 12GB of junk remains that I no longer need. Whenever I try to delete what is left, it says I need permission from TrustedInstaller and it won't let me delete these files. Is there any way to blow these directories away without having to format the disk? I really can't format because the disk is almost full with data that I need to keep and I don't really have any other disks to temporarily back these files up to.
I have a copy of windows 7 from a friend. (USB, possibly enterprise)It runs well, is official and can be re installed and is verified through the Microsoft site, so the media doesn't seem to be a problem.I was able to install Win7 Ult x64 on my WinVista HomePrem x86, but I went back through to clean the hard drive (it was full, I didn't format before) and after low level formatting I cannot reinstall the OS. The harddrives are completely empty, and I get stuck at "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition," after hitting next when you are selecting the HD partition to install on. I tried a couple of things already:
-Installing on another harddrive -Formatting using Hiren's bootcd -Using a hard drive with XP installed to see if it is an upgrade and not a full version (no luck, still wouldn't install) -diskpart > list disk > select disk 0 > list partition > active \ in cmd..I have three hard drives attached to the computer right now, they can't all be broken. T.T
Well, unfortunately, Im having the same problem of PaulyC."show more restore points dates" IS checked but it does not show anything before 16 december, TWO days ago.
I'm having a problem I cannot seem to fix at all. I'll provide the backstory and what steps I've tried to take to resolve the problem, but I'm literally at a place where I don't know what to do. My ultimate end goal is to just recover personal files from my old hard drive and that's it. I don't care how I access that drive, I just need to access it. The problem is I can't no matter how hard I try.
So a week ago I was having problems with my computer. Lots of blue screen errors (unfortunately I don't have those numbers anymore) and even after try to do chkdsk, running repair programs, defragging, etc., nothing seemed to help. I had a 1TB HDD partitioned into two sections. I backed up my personal files to the second partition (the one without Windows) and then tried to do a repair of the Windows installation. That didn't help, so I just wiped that first partition and did a fresh install of Windows. Everything seemed to be working great, no errors, no BSOD, nothing. So I moved back my personal files to the partition with windows on it (my second partition is where I hold all my games) and called it a night after I had gotten everything back to normal.
The next day my computer is on and it suddenly just turns itself off. When I restarted it I got a blue screen error that flashed on my screen and immediately rebooted the computer. When it tried the second time I got another BSOD, this one giving me the error of 0x00000024. I tried booting last known good config, safe mode, disk repair... seems no options can get me back into Windows.
I can not start windows 7, and i try to restore to an earlier point in time, and it says i've not enough free space in C:. I tried using command Prompt to delete files from C, but it looks stuck in X:. I entered x:>cd "C:" and it says C: and after X:>
Recently my SSD failed so I tried installing windows 7 from DVD on my HDD but I always get an error message: "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition."I've tried everything I could find here: I gave boot priority to the HDD, I unplugged every other device but nothing seems to work.
I have just performed a full system restore on my Dell XPS L501 with Windows 7, but now it won't boot up. I get a 'Bootmgr is missing' message. I think I might have to try re-installing Windows but did not receive a disk with the PC. Anything else I should try?
"unable to defragment system partition. When run Disk Defragmenter the C: volume is not displayed. Other partitions can be defragmented and are displayed."
So to give an idea of whats going on: D: Drive is where Vista USED to be. C: Is where I put 7. E: Is a small drive I dropped in for XP.
Now that 7 is on C: I have no real use for Vista and want to format D: for storage of all non-system files. However its not letting me delete all the files (it shows about 50+ GB os files in D:Program Files and D:Windows from the old installation) OR Format the drive because it treats is as a system drive. Any way around this?
I have Win 7 64 bit installed on my laptop as well as my desktop. System images for both are on external HD's.
On the laptop, I have created a system image on blank DVD's using DVD-R's. No problems -- I can restore from the DVD's.
However, when I try to create a system image on blank DVD-R's on my desktop, I get a message saying something like, "format was unsuccessful." If I use a DVD+RW the process runs to completion and I can restore from it. I had to use RW's because I don't have and +R's.
I get the same unsuccessful message if I try to format a blank DVD-R with Win 7.
My DVD burner on the desktop says it is a +R. Does that mean I can't use -R's.
I've no idea whether this is a Win 7 problem, burner problem or a problem on my part.
Would someone please try to straighten out the dense old mind?
I managed to figure out that I have to use the VCenter Converter Standalone itself separately to get it to work out better. I am currently able to boot my VM, but my files are corrupted so it sends me to a restore method. I attempted to restore from my external HD and it seemed to work, but then it gave me an error. Obviously it has something to do with the error i got at around 98% while converting. This is on the left side of the box.
I recently put together my first build and am currently trying to install Windows 7 onto it.
My school offers Windows OS for free so I downloaded a .iso file of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit onto a USB drive.it starts up just fine, leads me to install Windows, agree to terms, but when I go to set up the drive it gives me the message, "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information."

I recently did a Clean install of WIN 7 from scratch (after reloading the manufacturers settings), download Microsoft Updates and Kaspersky 2013. However I am unable to restore from my backup Drive (D), Win accepts the command and identifies the File/s to be restored, yet on completion the files do not appear to have been restored after a restart.
I'm doing a fresh install on windows 7, instead of a disk it's on a thumb drive I have a 500 GB Partition I want to install windows toI went through setup and formatted the disk when I try to continue with the installation and get this error.
I recently downloaded a damaged file, which caused my computer (not this one) to be unable to start up normally. The computer now boots up in Startup repair, which is unable to repair my computer "automatically" and when I then click "View advanced options for system recovery and support" and go to the "System restore" tab and choose a Date and time for the restoration, it tells me that "There is not enough free space to restore the disk". I seem to have no options to try and sort out the missing space on the harddisk, which should be unnecessary because I am pretty sure there is still alot of disk space on the C.
i got a hp pavillion running windows 7 i was installing the windows update and pressed restart now, after this the force restart thing came up but i pressed cancel and it didnt like this, after 2 minutes of program errors it restarted and went straight into startup repair. running it on normal mode doesnt work and safe mode is not available. when it runs startip repair it wont fix anything and tells me to restore, i can get to the windows restore part and have restore points but they do not work and an error is shown, x8000xffff if i remember correctly.
I built a new pc and i want to put windows 7 pro on it. When i try to install i got the message "setup unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing one". How do I fix this?
This is a fresh Windows 7 install on a 500GB HDD (previously used under XP) In the BIOS the Storage is configured as: Raid. Obviously I have the right raid ICH10R drivers from Asus (they are on a USB drive) Installation starts, Windows sees the disk, I specify the drivers, BUT when I click Next, I get: Setup was unable to create a new system partition. I can delete the partition, create a new one, format it, BUT when I click Next, I get: Setup was unable to create a new system partition. I used Gparted to delete the partition, and tried again - I used Seagate tools to zero the disk (sort of low level format) - If I try to install on a brand new 1TB HDD following the same steps, it installs fine... Both drives are Sata II and I used the same Sata port (only one disk at a time)
