For a while i have come across this annoying problem with my system.When I press the shut down button on the start menu it just restarts.Its not always but when it happens ,it continously restarts until i get pissed and just press reset and immediately press the cabinet power button when the POST screen comes.
View 1 RepliesI have had my laptop (Dell Inspiron N7110) for less than a year, and everything has always run smoothly. I performed a format of my hard drive yesterday and installed a clean copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. Everything went fine with the format process, so I didn't think anything was amiss until I tried to shut down the laptop before going to bed. And that's when I discovered that it won't shut down, unless I physically hold down the power button (which I don't like doing, for obvious reasons.) If I choose the "Shut Down" option from the Start menu, the laptop goes through the "Shutting down..." process perfectly fine, but the laptop boots up again immediately upon turning off. So it's like instead of shutting down, the system just does a restart. Which is fine for some things, but I do eventually want to shut down my laptop (I don't like leaving it on overnight in case there's an electrical storm, for example.)

- I did pass the memtest with no fault for a complete day
- I did check the inside, there is no apparent accumulation of dust
- I did test the hard disk and no fault found
- Fans are running. No evidence of overheating
- Did a Virus and Adaware test
What other test could I execute?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just bought entirely new system about 4 months go or so, this has been a self build. The issues first had was whenever i select to shut down windows it starts shutting down and as it gets to the point where it actually is supposed to turn off it suddenly blue screens and then goes into a restarting boot! this is hugely frustrating as when i select shut down i want it to shut down not blue screen and restart. I formatted my machine about a month ago as the issue was getting extremely repetitive, once formatted everything worked great until just the other day it started again it is not as frequent as it used to be, it only happens once every 2 weeks or so. I know its not viruses as i run KIS and malwarebytes and regularly scan the system for any issues, i dont think its hardware because the system is new and i have used the best parts, also i dont think it is frequent enough to be hardware.

When I click the "Shut Down" button within windows, the computer will restart and not shut down.
When I physically HOLD DOWN the "Shut Down" button on the computer case, the PC restarts.
I do not have any BSOD's. I do have a memory dump file that say's to be 470,628KB in size but I can't open it.
I have tried disabling my overclock and I have left my overclock on and it DOES NOT make a difference. When I press the "Shut Down" it restarts. When I hold the "Shut Down" button down on my case, it also only restarts.
I would like to add that my motherboard has "Shut Down" button as well and a "Restart" button on the Motherboard, when I hold the "Shut Down" button it also restarts.
I was starting to think about the small 30 Gauge wires that have the super small headers, you know the ones that go to the bottom right of the MOBO, I was thinking perhaps that I got those mixed up in different spots.
But that doesnt logically explain or solve the problem I have from shutting down from within windows, does it?
I have an Alienware M14x R1 laptop with a Crucial M4 SSD as my primary drive and the stock Seagate in the optical drive as my secondary drive. I recently tried to update the Seagate's firmware and now everytime I boot up I get this message that says, "Non-system disk press any key to continue". What do I do to fix this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedPretty much what happened is that my powersupply got messed up one day and just turned off my computer and I couldn't boot it back up. I ordered a new PSU and I installed it but now when I boot my computer I'm getting "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". I've tried putting in the installation disc and using the recovery options but my OS isn't listed/found and if I click load drivers I can clearly see both of my hard drives. I have already checked boot options as well. I was also using GRUB before this all happened as well because I installed ubuntu as a dualboot.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the student version of Windows 7. I'm running Vista business so I had to do a clean install which went fine, it went through the first two steps fine (I forget the names) and then says it needs to restart to finish.
It restarts, goes to the new windows start up screen (which looks nice), that screen goes away and then shows the cursor for about 5 seconds and then the system restarts. It'll do this for hours. I also have a DVD version of it, tried that, same story. I've tried updating drivers, unplugging everything, and hitting F8, nothing worked. Any other ideas?

Meaning that the system will run perfectly fine for days ( and even a week in some cases ) before restarting itself. The only thing I've been able to pin point is that it'll happen while I'm playing World of Warcraft most often.My video card drivers seem to be up to date ( Catalyst 11.10 ). I've re-installed the drivers a few times using the control panel ( Add / Remove ), and then manually deleting folders and registry information that happened to be remaining.As another side note, I should also mention that I've come across one other problem that I'm able to fix after booting up. I don't believe this issue is at all related to what's been happening lately, but every time the computer is booted up for the first time it will eventually lock up when ever I move the mouse or stroke a key.I'm able to fix this by using the hardware troubleshooting that Windows 7 has. Once I run that the problem is resolved indefinitely until the computer is restarted

But the problem is the sleep function..Every time I put my Laptop to sleep and when I'm waking it up to resume the task I'm doing it restarts my system instead which is pretty much annoying..

Once on the "Starting Windows" screen with the pulsing windows logo, about 10 seconds in the screen will freeze. After staying frozen for a moment, the screen goes dark and my monitor reports: Quote: NO SIGNAL DIGITAL At this point my machine is still running; LEDs, Temp. readout, fans, etc. still function as normal. Motherboard reports no error. My only option is to force a shutdown or restart. Sometimes instead of a 'Windows has failed to start' error message, I receive an improper shutdown notice and am given options to start in Safe Mode (or Safe Mode with Networking). My system is always able to start and run fine in Safe Mode.I have been struggling with this issue for a few months and have since replaced my processor and motherboard, and sent my video card in for repairs. Whether or not Asus actually did anything to my GPU remains unknown.
I have an Asus Intel (R) Core (TM)2 Duo CPU T6500 @2.10GHZ LAPTOP. I am a basic computer user and simply tried to upgrade to Windows 7 because when I purchased the computer in August it came with a free upgrade.
I performed the upgrade check and folllowed the Windows 7 sugestions. I hit the upgrade button and 2.5 hours later things were going fine. The last step was approx 50% finished (Trasferring files, drives, etc.)
The system retstarted automatically and I received the Bootmgr is missing. I went on the forum and found a sugestion to Boot from the DVD. I tried this and it worked. System rebboted fine. Got a message to repair or revover. I repaired the start up. That worked and now the computer starts from its own hard drive.
After startup, "starting windows", I see wa window that says Setup is starting services and then I get a window box that says, "Th computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows Installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.
When I hit ok, the computer restarts and I eventually circle back to this screen.
Do I need to initiate something to restart the installation?
I am using windows 7 ultimate edition here my system restarts eery 2 seconds with a blue screen error, i hae tried cleaning the ram but it is not coming up at all, what may be the solution .

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS1530 laptop and lately, I have been experiencing issues with shutting the system down. I have Windows 7 loaded onto it (32-bit) which I installed shortly. What happens is this: I will turn the laptop on to do some work - that can range from transferring music from iTunes to my phone, working in Microsoft Word, or using Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator. I will work on something anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours and when I finish up, I close all of the programs before I go to shutdown the machine.
I click the Windows button in the lower-left of my screen and select "Shutdown" but nothing happens. I will wait up to 15 minutes and still Nothing. If I try and open a program like Firefox it won't open after I've selected "Shutdown." It's like the machine is stuck on something. Also, I tried running my virus software to see if there was a problem, but it got stuck around 89% done and just sat there for 12 hours before I told it to stop.

i have a dell latitude d430 and I accidentally shut it down whilst it was configuring updates.Now, when turning on all i get is the 'configuring updates stage 3 of 3 0% complete' and then it appears to restart and do it all over again.
