Aug 24, 2012
I would like a way to program my notebook computer to 'turn off' not 'shut down' when I press the power button, like a desktop computer would. In Windows 7, there does not appear to be that option available in the list of available options under 'Power options'.
Problem :I can not log on windows with power button. So, for the detail :
1. When i turn on my PC (use power button)
2. It's on then go to dual boot menu then I press enter on windows 7
3. Then, the normal boot appear (windows logo with "starting windows" text)
4. After that, the screen goes blank, just black screen without cursor
my vga and ram is ok, I already use the latest driver for my vga card I can start my win xp normally (my dual boot is win 7 and win xp) I can start my win 7 with safe mode and low resolution I also can start my win 7 normally after I force restart my PC with reset button?

I was starting to think about the small 30 Gauge wires that have the super small headers, you know the ones that go to the bottom right of the MOBO, I was thinking perhaps that I got those mixed up in different spots.
But that doesnt logically explain or solve the problem I have from shutting down from within windows, does it?

I was able to back up all the documents, pictures, data, etc and leaning towards a format and reinstall of the OS. But I want to see if there something else can be done.
Whenever I press the sleep button on my computer, or when I leave it idle and it goes to sleep by itself, I get a blue screen of death. I would really like to solve thiNow, this computer came with an AMD video card, but I uninstalled those drivers and took out the video card and installed a GTX 570 from EVGA. The drivers are up to date, so I am pretty sure the new hardware is installed correctly. Furthermore, it was not doing this for the first few months of having the video card installed. This is very recent, so I don't understand what it could be

I use my PC for audio production and I have a few external controller devices that are USB powered, for example a midi keyboard. I recently had to build PC due to a theft....long story short after building the new PC I've noticed that my USB buses have continual power to these external devices after I've powered down the PC. My old windows 7 PC did not do this. Is there a setting I can change to shut off power to the USB buses when I power off the PC? Or is this a hardware issue?
i've tried to set the option for pressing the power button to 'Do Nothing' so no body can shut the computer, and yet it shuts down by pressing the button, so why is that and how can i work this out?

(Fresh installed Win7 Ultimate 64bit)I used Aero Peek a couple of times earlier without any problem while multi-tasking. and after 15 minutes, this sh*t starts to happen! When I press the Windows Button on my keyboard, my computer shuts down! I thought earlier that I just pressed it and clicked or highlighted the "shutdown" button on the start menu. But I have tried it a dozen times, that when I press the Windows Button,?In fact this is the second time that I am posting this thread because I accidentally pressed the d*mn Windows Button again.

I have two new Windows 7 computers (laptops) that I run 3D design software on. I have multiple programs that utilize a simultaneous pressing of both left and right mouse buttons (not double-click). This command goes unrecognized in my software and is used extensively to go into 3d rotational manipulation. I also have a mouse that has the central scroll-wheel button that will activate this feature, but the dual button press also goes unrecognized from from the mouse. My old XP computer recognized this input just fine. I have already been through mouse properties and found nothing obvious. I have also checked for updated mouse drivers.
As a long Time Warner Cable customer, I've gotten used to how their DVR boxes work (and am very glad to be off of them now). One very common thing I would do is start watching a show, and mid way through it decide I want to record it and watch it later. The nice thing was that the recording would contain everything I had watched up to that point plus the remainder of the show. Well... whenever I do the same thing in media center, I notice that the recording starts at the point of where I pressed the record button as opposed to from the start of when I started watching. Is this a limitation of Media Center or is something not set up correctly on my end?
Whenever I press the media button on my remote, my Xbox starts up. Is there anyway I can stop that short of putting some tape over the IR receiver on the Xbox when I'm not using it?
My daughter has a Hp laptop and it was working fine, but the screen was coming apart. so my husband put it back together, Now it will not come on. It's getting some power but not coming on at the power button. The lights flashes when you push the button then nothing.
Since a few days the left touchpad button on my Samsung notebook does not work any more.Double tipping on the touchpad itself (as replacement action) or using the left mouse button works fine.So what error can it be?How can I find out the reason? No mechanical damage is observable.
