When ever I try to restart my computer it shuts off and then the power lights turn to orange and then the computer beeps twice and then waits for a few seconds and then beeps again. I have to hit the power button and then hit it again to get it to turn on and it works fine

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have 2 computers here. One is a E-Machines, and the other is a custom built. Both units as soon as you power them on, they go thru the boot up process, but anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds later, the unit turns off. I've tried swapping the ram and the power supply. I have disconnected the keyboard, monitor, mouse and speakers with no change. Both of them developed this problem over night. They do not stay booted up long enough to get into the setup or to even try booting from a DVD.

I would like a way to program my notebook computer to 'turn off' not 'shut down' when I press the power button, like a desktop computer would. In Windows 7, there does not appear to be that option available in the list of available options under 'Power options'.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOver the last weekend I installed a new hard drive into my system, and on that drive installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Over the past week I have been tweaking my settings, resolving issues, and installing programs.So far everything is working fine, except for the fact that when I shut down, there is still some power being supplied to my motherboard (NumLock indicator does not turn off, and if I open the case the power LED on the motherboard is illuminated). This does not happen when I shut down from Windows XP (I have a dual-boot configuration; XP is on my smaller hard drive).
1. I have gone into my BIOS and disabled all the relevant power management settings (as far as what devices can wake the system, etc.).
2. I have gone through my Windows 7 power management settings and disabled/changed all settings that seemed relevant.
3. I have gone through my device manager and made sure that, for all devices that have a power management tab in their properties, the check box that says something like "Allow the computer to turn off this device when shutting down" (or something like that) is selected. Yes, even for the firewire port. There are some items for which the check box is greyed out and cannot be selected (such as the keyboard).
Here are the only things that I think may have an impact that I have NOT done:
1. Installed the chipset drivers for my motherboard in Windows 7. I have not done this because: a) other than powering down, everything else works fine; and b) I am not sure which driver package I should install (due to the mixed northbridge and southbridge chipsets on my motherboard).
Running Win7 64 bit, built this computer back in December, has worked flawlessly until now. Last few days - operates fine for an hour or so, then freezes, goes black, crashes and reboots itself, only to stop at the loading OS screen due to 'Boot Disk Failure' Happens regardless of what I am doing, or even if idle. Have updated windows, ran virus and malware scans.

All Critical errors are event 41, Kernal Power - but I'm sure thats from me hardbooting on the disk failure.
I originally set my power button to "shut down" in the right click taskbar>properties>start menu>power button action
drop down menu. but now whether i choose switch user, sleep, hibernate, log off, it always shuts down. the button on my laptop is super sensitive and i just don't want it to power off anymore, i've accidentally hit it one too many times.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a MEDION MD96850 Laptop. Ever since the battery died, I have been running the laptop on AC power. This has been fine for my work. However, since yesterday, the laptop just won't turn on. The power supply is on but the laptop won't start. I have tried 3 power adapters but it's the same result.
One of my hinges is damaged and I can see a wire inside - maybe this is the cause of the problem? I read that on some laptops there's some switch underneath the touchpad that does something but I don't have a clue.
Due to my stupidity, I delayed in backing up much of my work and now find myself desperate to access it again. I really don't want to lose all the work.
When I set the power management to turn off the monitor after x minutes, the monitor is off for 1 second and it turned on automatically. I am using msi ex600 laptop.
I have tried the following:
* Unplugged the mouse
* Exit from all application's running
* Disable the network card
My bios and graphic card are updated. The hibernate option is working fine. Is there a way to find what turns on the monitor?
This BSOD has been happening more regularly, sometimes after 30mins, other times after a couple of hours.If I try and restart it crashes shortly after Win 7 logo appears.Unless I disconnect the power for at least 15mins, it won't restart Windows - just re crashes.Have attached the dump and sysdata files - note that the two files are not always written.

About 4 months ago, windows decided to set my monitor shut off time to 20 minutes. The first time it happened, I figured it was a one-off thing, and set the monitor off setting back to "never". Fast forward 4 months, and I have to turn the setting to "never" every time I start my computer. I've even made custom power profiles, and every time I restart, the monitor off setting keeps going back to 20 minutes.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery now and then, my system just completely freezes, I can't anything. I can't even restart by pressing the Power button. I don't think it happens when I do a certain task, everything freezes one by one or window by window. Just as an example, first Windows Media Player will freeze then FireFox then Explorer and then the Windows Gadgets and the last to freeze is the cursor. I have no choice but to hold in the Power to hard shutdown my PC. Could this be because of my old motherboard or is it my hard drive crashing? I have 2 HDD, 250Gb each, the HDD that has windows on has about 70Gb free.

My computer wouldn't shut down, even with holding in the power button, and so I just let it run out the battery. Then it wont turn on. I tried holding down the power button to clear out any charge that might be remaining. I have managed to get it back on, but I have to make a connection at the clip where you plug the power button ribbon into the mobo. Also, this is the second time I have had to do this. The computer works fine afterwards...or seems to anyway.

I have just bought a new computer with windows 7 but when I switch it on it does not connect to my orange livebox. If I switch off the livebox at the mains leaving it for 30seconds before switching back on it connects with the computer after booting up. I leave the computer switched on during this manouvre. If I do a restart then it will connect up ok. If I switch off and turn on again it does not connect.
