I would like a way to program my notebook computer to 'turn off' not 'shut down' when I press the power button, like a desktop computer would. In Windows 7, there does not appear to be that option available in the list of available options under 'Power options'.
I want to know if i can remove the power button from the bottom of the welcome/locked screen as my lovely 2 year old keeps turning my PC off it its lock or on the welcome screen, I have a lockable door on my PC case so he can't get at that power button so this is the only thing we can think is its the power button on the welcome screen.
I am seriously at my limit spent 3 days I still cant figure it out, done probably 100 reboots. Contacted ASUS Support they are useless still in contact with them in troubleshooting this matter.
This is my issue.
When I hit the Power Button my screen goes black, before a bios revision it would just reboot my computer. YES I have set Power Options, Power Button to shut down computer.
I noticed I am missing a Sleep Button Action as its not in my menus. Maybe this could be a leading reason why this is happening? Anyone know how to get this option to show up?
I have used another computer cases front panel and same issue occurs so it cannot be my front panel.
I have a gut feeling the OS ACPI is completely being ignored when it comes to what the Power Button should do, if I set it to Sleep/Hibernate/Shut Down SAME thing still occurs.
I have got the Power Button to work successfully maybe 8 times out of the 100. It actually Logged off, Saved Settings and Turned of Computer as what I am trying to get it to do.
I have reinstalled the ACPI driver from ASUS but nothing changed. Have the latest BIOS Revision as well. I have removed battery and cleared CMOS as well. Also loaded default BIOS settings.

Logitech Illuminated Keyboard (Maybe can use ACPI I think dont know if it can conflict?)
Weird thing, guy at ASUS told me to set it to "S1 Only" in BIOS and it actually worked twice, third time I hit the power button it went back to same behavior.
I noticed my chances are higher for it to turn off properly when the power options advanced settings window is open for some reason.
I am using windows 7 ultimate on my samsung laptop. today I tried to install ubuntu in dual boot mode with my windows 7. I installed ubuntu 12.04 on e drive( mounted as ext 4) and 1.5 gb of swap partition..the installation went smooth but when I restart I get a blank screen with crusor blinking?
I recently purchased Windows 7 and was trying to boot from the disc to do a clean installation, but every time I do this a blank Windows 7 screen appears with a mouse pointer. There are no options or anywhere to click. It just stays on the Windows 7 screen.
I've tried multiple discs (32bit, 64bit and even my friend's copy)
Has anyone had a similar problem? Does anyone know how to fix this?
have Windows 7 Home edition on a HP dv4 series laptop. Couple of days back I was browsing through a website suddenly the the windows was shutdown. I assumed it was some virus workWhen I try to restart windows it is taking me upto the HP boot options then I get a blank screen with a cursor at the top left corner. The following did not work,1) Booting via the recovery disk2) Booting via recovery hard disk3) I created a USB boot with Ubuntu and even the USB is not getting detected
I have a Compaq Presario CQ61-420US Laptop, it will be a year old at the end of April 2011. It has Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS. Never had a problem with it till now. I am planning on doing a memory upgrade (currently has 3.0 GB DDR2 PC6400 in 2 slots (1gb + 2gb), ordered a 2.0 GB chip to bring it up to 4.0 GB total memory)Anyway I wanted to make sure I could do the swap myself so I unplugged the power cord, took out the battery, unscrewed the panel on the bottom of the laptop case, found the memory chips, took out both chips very carefully, undoing the tabs holding the chips in, took them out, inspected them, put them back in the way I took them out, making sure the tabs on the chips were lined up, maing sure the contacts were making contact. Put everything back together, ordered the new 2GB memory chip.
Today I went to power up the laptop, battery in and power cord plugged in and everything lit up like normal except the screen never came on, the power button stayed lit, the network status light stayed on, the power indicator was lit, two white lights were flashing at the same time every 5 seconds though, which is abnormal, one at the top right of the keyboard which I believe is the Num-lock light and one on the far left of the keyboard which I believe is the Caps-Lock light. And thats it, nothing ever happens it never turns on (blank screen) even after 20 min's. SO I held the power button down till it powered off. Unplugged the cord, took out the battery, held the power button down for 30 seconds, put the battery back in and tried powering up again, still the same thing.
Lately my PC has been weird, whenever i launch any game my computer just turns off but in a verry unusual way, The Screen goes black, the pc fans stop spinning, nothing is working, but my power button is still bright blue (showing that the pc is still on but its not), i press the button, nothing happens and if i un-plug the power cable, the power button stays on for about 10 seconds, then when i plug the power cable back in the pc turns on just normally like every time, but i still get crash if i launch a game, this is my pc Configuration: [code] This has been happening for a couple months now and its getting verry annoying, i'm thinking of buying a gaming PC but that costs 3,000 and i need a good working PC while i save up money.I have reinstalled Windows a few weeks after the problem accoured, it did not fix it. I also updated all my drivers, still not working...
my computer automatically turn on when i connect it to the power source....And after few seconds it restarts its self...this cycle repeats its self over and over again until i dont disconnect the power source.
When ever I try to restart my computer it shuts off and then the power lights turn to orange and then the computer beeps twice and then waits for a few seconds and then beeps again. I have to hit the power button and then hit it again to get it to turn on and it works fine
i've tried to set the option for pressing the power button to 'Do Nothing' so no body can shut the computer, and yet it shuts down by pressing the button, so why is that and how can i work this out?

Ok last night i was bored so decided to re-paste my G7 so i opened her up and cleaned the Cpu and Gpu nicely. Did my thing re-pasted her up and put everything back in order.I downloaded some benchmark tools such as Hwinfo, Amd gpu clock tools, cpu-z, gpu-z and aida64.I also have ccleaner installed so far that is all i have as of now besides the bench mark and anti virus tools.
I was running hwinfo and checking my temp's earlier today everything seemed normal as i was curing my tim and making sure the temp's where ok.While i was checking the temps on my g7 i went ahead and downloaded some files on my other pc transferring it to my usb so i could plug my usb and download the files from there. All of a sudden my monitor goes blank and everything seem to be fine all the light's where on except the monitor. So i went ahead and dissembled the g7 to make sure that i wasn't pinching any wires that run to my monitor nothing was wrong there i double checked took a look at all my wires and they where fine.I restarted the pc up 3 times before the picture came back so i decided to run a chkdsk scan and this is what i pulled up.

My daughter has a Hp laptop and it was working fine, but the screen was coming apart. so my husband put it back together, Now it will not come on. It's getting some power but not coming on at the power button. The lights flashes when you push the button then nothing.
It just started Friday night, and I don't why it started, or I can't fix it. I tried reinstalling drivers for my keyboard, I tried disabling "Debug" in System Config, and even tried System Restore.
I have run into a little bit of an annoying problem while logging onto my computer. I get to the login screen, enter my password, it then says welcome and fades out like usual. But insted of it going to my desktop it just goes blank for five to ten seconds with only the curser in the center of the screen spinning round as if it was loading somthing.I have had this problem for a few months now and have lived with it. I know it is just my user account because I tried making a new account and it works perfectly.
I recently upgraded to windows 7 and since then my computer screen will randomly go blank and after I restart I get the following error message:

Got my computer back from having its PSU fixed, and this is happening. When I press the power button, it powers on for a second, then off, then back on again automatically and actually stays on this time. It does this every time.
i've had Windows 7 now since release, i've had nearly no problems at all.just sometimes my computer turns itself off without any notice.when i then reboot it again, nothing happens, the computer stays on, but i still have to reboot by pushing the power button... THEN it boots up, and when it does it says: "Resuming Windows" and what bothers me then is the boot-time...it's taking almost 4-5 minutes ( normally around 30 seconds boot ) just to boot it up then, after a while it then works fine again...once again, theese "reboots" are completely random... happens rarely, perhaps once a month.ay ideas?*EDIT*Forgot to say that i reinstalled windows recently ( 4-5 weeks ago ) to try and see if anything changed...it didn't.Specs:Intel Core2 Duo, E8500ATI Radeon 4800 Series4gb DDR2 RAMWindows 7 x64 Ultimate SP1
