Toolbars Don't Has Changed Into Almost A Windows 98 Equivalent
Aug 30, 2012
I use my acre aspire 552 amd athion x2 p320 OS regularly with norton antivirus. I tried to turn on my laptop and windows has failed to load. I have tried safe mode and launching the Self launching fix which has sort of fixed the problem however it take about 40 minutes to progress from the start page to the desktop. Furthermore the toolbars don't has changed into almost a windows 98 equivalent. I launched norton and it told me my computer was at risk with problems being intrusion Prevention.
In Windows XP you can use NTBackup to create an image (single file I think) of an entire volume, and then later open the backup and view the entire directory structure and restore individual or multiple select files. Is there an equivalent to this in Windows 7 and Windows 8?
I have been using DVD Shrink 3.2 with Win XP for years to make backups and archive my valuable DVDs. I now have a new computer running Win 7 and DVD Shrink no longer seems to load properly or work correctly. I still need to be able to back up my own DVDs-what programs are available in Win 7 to do that?. I have just begun using the new computer and have not begun to exoplore all the features of Win 7
I have a windows update that is reoccurring. Every time it runs it wipes out all my tool bars including the basic bar that contains the File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools
I baught a new computer and everything was working well until my computer did an update. This was within 24 hours of buying the PC and bringing it home. Ever since the update everytime either i shut my monitor off or is going iunto sleep mode when i bring it out of sleep mode or turn the monitor back on all of my desktop icons and the tool bars are gone. I'm left with nothing but a backround picture and the rest is blank. I've been fixing this by right clicking the desktop and then clicking screen resolution and changing the screen to the other choice but this is a true pain to do everytime.
I am waiting to be approved by my school for msdnaa access but am not sure what it offers is what I need. Is what they offer equivalent to a retail version of windows 7, oem or upgrade?
I am using Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 9. I can't enable any of the toolbars. When I click Tools > Manage Toolbars, all of my toolbars are disabled. When I highlight a toolbar name both the enable and disable buttons are shaded and neither one can be selected.
I have been using NetDrive for accessing a remote storage drive using webdav and accessing it as a windows map network drive letter.
However, NetDrive which is free for home use is available as of now only for 32 bit.
I heard about WebDrive but it is very expensive.
If anyone can point to another such freeware for 64 bit OS which allows remote webdav based storage to be accessed as a map network drive in Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
So I'm thinking about upgrading to a better GPU and I've decided that I want to try ATI. I find their model numbering system extremely foggy, so could someone point me in the direction of the ATI equivalent of the GeForce 9800 GT/GTX+?
I am trying to connect to a wireless router in the house I share with roommates. It is not my router, just what they give me access to with my rent. They are using a WEP key with this router. Just for clarity I will even post the WEP key (since no one on here will know what router this is for). The 5 byte WEP key in hexadecimal is 18 01 44 62 AE. the first 2 characters have no viewable ASCII character equivalent and Windows 7 doesn't appear to allow me to enter in the Hex values when entering a WEP key. So, can Windows 7 not handle this or can the WEP key for a network be entered in Hex format somewhere and I just don't know where yet?
I am a long time user of Windows XP. And I have very basic and specific ways of browsing and launching needed apps and getting to my files.
I recently volunteered my little brothers PC to be the Windows 7 guinea pig. I installed windows 7 with its awesome and simple new gui installer, ran all the updates, video drivers, the works.
Then when I went to add a toolbar to the right hand side of the screen by dragging an empty folder to the edge, the folder just bounced back.. Top, left.. no good. I chatted with several people I know using 7 and they tried with no avail as well. It works on Vista, XP and probably even back to 98-95.
Has this REALLY useful and SUPER IMPORTANT (at least to me) option been removed from the "newest and best" windows build?
Example of "MY" Auto hiding Windows XP sidebar. Easy access to all my root drives, a cascading explorer, expanding games, and single click fully labeled program shortcuts.
Showing Cascading One click file browsing. Just have to mouse over to expand sub folders to easily find buried files.
Is there a way to do the equivalent of a system file check on a BIOS? I just installed a BIOS update on my friend's new (Win7, 64bit) Compaq CQ57, and it occurred to me that checking it - maybe running a checksum on it? - would be a good idea. I'm going to install an Ubuntu partition on this machine. I can't find it now, but I seem to recall running across something about running a checksum on a BIOS from a Linux OS.
I have a mysterious glitch of sorts where I am unable to add a custom toolbar in the taskbar because whenever I restart my computer the custom toolbar disappears. I want to add two: Quick Launch and Games toolbars in Windows 7.I am suspecting the fault is with this program I just got called Advanced System Optimizer 3.
My screen display is changed after a windows update. It's not as crisp and bright as before but is a bit blurry and hurts the eye.I have re-installed the latest driver of NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS but with no changes...Device manager displays NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS under Display Adapters..I have fiddled with NVIDIA Control Panel with no good result.I tried doing system restore but i did not have any restore points created ever which is a FAIL...Moreover, when I check Screen Resolution, only display option is 1. Display device on: VGA .... Isn't this supposed to include NVIDIA options?Monitor driver SyncMaster 732NW is updated as well..
I am using windows 7 professional for over a year now, two days ago most of my icons (all microsoft office icons, and some other softwares) have been changed to default. They all function properly, just the icon is changed to default. Its irritating.
I tried searching on this forum for similar issues, most of them have been corrected by changing shell icon folder from regedit. I can locate that on my system.
I don't know what is the best free software to clean all the cookies and registry files. my laptop always lag this past few days and suddenly "this version of windows is not genuine" appear on bottom left of my wallpaper. i've installed paid anti virus internet security for my laptop. so what should i do? my windows 7 home premium is genuine because i bought asus

I would like to streamline a user account on my Win 7 PC so it maximises performance. This is due to an overheat problem I have been experiancing since my Win 7 upgrade.I have created a new user account that I would like to run an application really smoothly so have taken some performance tweek advice and turned off the aero peak function, and most of the fancy visual apperance settings, set some services to manual and assumed it would only apply these settings for the current user, but it applies the settings to all users registered on the computer. Is it possible to set up two (or more) different accounts so one could have all the default features and visual apperance settings as standard (for email, Web browsing, media centre, gadgets, all that nice stuff), and onther user account be bare bones, no nice graphics and visuals, less defautl services but run high demand programs better?
when i moved to spain from the uk last year i bought a laptop here windows 7 home premium was pre-installed at some point and i don't remember how i changed the display language from spanish to english i have just bought another laptop which also has windows 7 home premium installed and i can't work out how to change the display language the received wisdom seems to be that it is only possible with an upgrade to ultimate but i didn't upgrade my first machine is it possible that i reinstalled windows and was therefore able to select english as the default display language?
I was working on setting up a PC for network usage with the understanding that it hadn't been used muchpreviously.Unfortunately I found that it had a PC name already existing on the network and went to change the PC name and IP address as needed for a static IP environmentHowever, after selecting to "restart" the system never rebooted up and I cannot seem to access the CD drive to place a restore CD or basically do anything with the PC.Any ideas on what happened?I've unplugged the computer and waited a few seconds to plug it in.Once replugged it returns to having the basic lights on it blink about once every few second and appears to be otherwise disabled.
just installed an asusM5A97 mobo. hdd and everything else stayed the same. problem is, it will only make it to boot screen no matter what. i tried repair and open normally but it still will not let windows boot.

Having changed anti-virus software from MSE to AVG on W7 the first scan revealed a "Corrupt Windows Installer".Further investigation doing a Sfc /Scannow confirmed this was indeed true and Scannow could not rectify it.how I can rectify this without doing a complete reinstallation of W7?
I installed Avast AV when Norton expired. In order to activate the internet security stuff, I had to install the upgraded library file, blah, blah, blah. In order to do this, I had to show hidden folders. Having only recently begun my foray into Windows 7 (coming from XP), I was flying a bit blind. I must have hit the wrong thing. After I was able to see hidden folders, install the library file to Avast and continue on with the reboot, the desktop came up wiped clean of my documents/pics, etc and my C:\Users\Susan folder has disappeared and is now called Public. Next, I thought I may have switched my user from Susan to Public, but I have not.
