View 3 RepliesI want to be able to find documents that have specific words in them. The result must be only those documents that have all of these specific words. When I run a search I get documents with all 3 words, or 2 words or just 1 of the words. I just want the documents that have all 3 of the words.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble getting Windows 7 to accurately report exact searches for text containing multiple periods (i.e., "x.01.001" format). I need the system to report ALL documents in a specified directory that contain the exact text input but I'm finding that windows is reporting documents with only partial matches (i.e., y.01.001 or z.01.001).
I am using "" around the specific text and have the following folder options selected in the search tab:
* Always search file names and contents (this might take several minutes)
* Include subfolders in search results when searching in file folders
* Don't use the index when searching in file folders or system files (searches may take longer)
* Include system directories
choose the right filter settings or modify my input commands to get a more accurate response?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn Windows XP you can use NTBackup to create an image (single file I think) of an entire volume, and then later open the backup and view the entire directory structure and restore individual or multiple select files. Is there an equivalent to this in Windows 7 and Windows 8?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using NetDrive for accessing a remote storage drive using webdav and accessing it as a windows map network drive letter.
However, NetDrive which is free for home use is available as of now only for 32 bit.
I heard about WebDrive but it is very expensive.
If anyone can point to another such freeware for 64 bit OS which allows remote webdav based storage to be accessed as a map network drive in Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
So I'm thinking about upgrading to a better GPU and I've decided that I want to try ATI. I find their model numbering system extremely foggy, so could someone point me in the direction of the ATI equivalent of the GeForce 9800 GT/GTX+?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect to a wireless router in the house I share with roommates. It is not my router, just what they give me access to with my rent. They are using a WEP key with this router. Just for clarity I will even post the WEP key (since no one on here will know what router this is for). The 5 byte WEP key in hexadecimal is 18 01 44 62 AE. the first 2 characters have no viewable ASCII character equivalent and Windows 7 doesn't appear to allow me to enter in the Hex values when entering a WEP key. So, can Windows 7 not handle this or can the WEP key for a network be entered in Hex format somewhere and I just don't know where yet?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to do the equivalent of a system file check on a BIOS? I just installed a BIOS update on my friend's new (Win7, 64bit) Compaq CQ57, and it occurred to me that checking it - maybe running a checksum on it? - would be a good idea. I'm going to install an Ubuntu partition on this machine. I can't find it now, but I seem to recall running across something about running a checksum on a BIOS from a Linux OS.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI switched from XP to 7 this year. I really enjoyed my time with XP especially because of the layout and I knew I would lose certain features like the way I could so easily search for files like mp3's and videos through my external hard drives. I do extensive film editing professionally, although im a bit disorganized as I am currently using two external hard drives and I am looking for some recordings I made from August 2011 but its difficult to find them because I don't have the same search features that Windows XP had compared to Windows 7. look for files through date ranges, type of file be it an image, audio, movie, or text document, and size all at the same time?

View 9 Replies View Relatedi'm running my Windows 7 on a SSD and i've done the optimized settins what i've read over the internet. I also use the Windows Classic theme, where i see the statusbar etc.My problem is when i open My computer and then go to some drive(non-SSD) it opens the drive but doesn't show the files/or shows the files but still they're not sorted correctly, untill it is done with the "Searching for items."(which is written on the statusbar at the bottom. This can take a few seconds to what seems like a minute, probably only though a good 30-40seconds.I wouldn't have a problem with this if it only did this once, but it does this "Searching for items." pretty much all the time when i go to a drives(non-SSD) root. Notice the root of the drive, when i go to some subfolders on the drive it doesn't "Search for items" and shows the files on the folder instantly, but when i then click back to the root of the drive it starts the "Searching for items." all over again. I had couple of thoughts of why this is happening, first i thought it would be because i had disabled the pagefile due to my SSD; now i've added the pagefile on my SSD and the problem is still there. The second thing which i thought of was the Indexing of the drives, i've disabled the Indexing on my SSD but i've left it on for every other drives. I don't know if there's a possibility that the indexing on the other drives may be off even though when i click on the drive and choose properties, i can see that the Allow indexing is chosen.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe new Windows search in 7 is horrible. how to search the inside "metadata" of mp3's? Ridiculous to now have to add search variables and not be able to just turn the option on as XP.
Does anyone have an alternative by any chance? I have been using "Everything" search which is lightining fast for searched unlike Windows 7.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having issues with searching for program shortcuts in Windows 7. When I type in a shortcut name in the search field on the start menu, nothing appears. Files and Control panel applets do appear though but no program shortcuts located under the C:ProgramdataMicrosoftWindowsStart Menu folder. The OS is Windows 7 Enterprise RTM 64 bit. I have confirmed that the user that is having the issue does have read and execute rights to these shortcuts because they appear in the start menu and in the appropriate folder. This is in a corporate environment so the local hard disk has restricted settings on it via group policy.
They include the following:
- Hide these specified drives in My Computer Restrict C drive Only
- Prevent access to drives from My Computer Restrict C Drive Only.
The tasks I have done.
- Confirmed the index options settings and the start menu is listed.
- Rebuilt the index and the same issue applies
Sometimes on my many windows 7 pcs when I go to computer or network nothing shows up and the side has the endless magnifying glasses searching, I can still access a network or drive by typing in the location or drive letter, logging out sometimes fixes this, but mainly have to restart the pc? This a windows 7 bug?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn windows XP I remember I could specify whatever I remember of a file and I could get straight to the file I was looking for, I could only remember a range of dates, an approx size, tow or three file extension... and thats it.. the search in windows 7 is good, but only for looking files that you know are there and you just want to save time scrolling down until get it. I have been in this situation various times, but I cant stand it anymore
I am looking for an audio file (a recording of a conversation). I don't remember the name (probably the default name the recorder put on it [there fore must be hundreds of files with the same names but in different folders). The specs I remember from the file, or what I am sure it is are:
Size between 1mb and 20mb
Create and or modification date: between 2008 and 2010
File type: wav, mp3, qcp or amr (i don't remember if i convert it, if i edited it... )
In windows xp I would have found the file, but in this windows 7 something CANT be so simple and when it is forced to be, it doesn't work properly. When I try to use the "So Super duper" simple all mighty space for searches in the upper right corner... it only give me options for (despite the name itself ...) "modified date" and "size". How do I chose a range of date, a range of size various fiile type? Why its so complicated in windows 7?
There is a Windows 7 machine and a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine in the same network. The Windows Search service is running on Server 2008 R2 and on Windows 7, therefore their music folders are indexed and added to the Music library. On Windows 7, I can search an artist in the start menu search and songs come up corresponding to the artist I searched for. However in Server 2008 R2 when I search an artist no results show unless that artist is in the file name of the song.Does anyone know what Windows 7 Search Service is doing that Server 2008 R2 is not? Perhaps something else is missing in Server 2008? Ironically, if Windows 7 was sharing its indexed music folder and Server 2008 R2 added the shared folder to its music library, it will find artists I search for in Server 2008 R2.

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust got my Windows 7 computer. I am used to XP file search dialog box. I looked at the "How to configure and fully utilize Windows 7 Search" on this site.
I think I am going to have to take a couple of days to figure this out.
Couple of quick questions: 1. In the search results window, I RMB a file and select "open in new window". the new window address bar does not contain a path. It contains some search info. How do I open in a new window and have the path in the address bar?
2. It appears the search does not limit itself to file names. It is also searching for contents. How do I prevent it from searching contents.
Search, although taking a long time if you have a number of pdf files, doesn't seem to return any results.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA true solution within Windows still does not exist in reference to searching for text strings within a zip file. You can find a filename if you know it.
But if you're like me, and you are an admin who is using zipping to archive up logs, but then must occasionally go back and search within those logs for text strings, the Windows Search function does not help you.
I have found a workable workaround however. [URL]
Simply download and install WinRAR, and then follow the instructions found in that link to search within (even nested zips) for text strings in order to find the correct file you are looking for to open.
I am searching for a file on my hard drives which I know is there because I saw it a few weeks ago but I can't remember how I named it. I know it is a document but when I type *,doc in the search box I get loads of e-mails and music files. How do I exclude all but genuine Word or publisher files.
