So I'm thinking about upgrading to a better GPU and I've decided that I want to try ATI. I find their model numbering system extremely foggy, so could someone point me in the direction of the ATI equivalent of the GeForce 9800 GT/GTX+?

I have nVidia Geforce 9800 GT graphic card and some time after my screen-saver started at once windows showed me message that my graphic card has stop working and that it recovered now. What is that should I be worried?

Now, onboard video memory is 1024MB, obviously. However, whenever I do dxdiag, it tells me that I have "Approx. Total Memory: 494 MB".
What the hell? That's less than half of what I actually have. I didn't actually notice this until today, when I went to play Prototype on my PC for the first time, and it wouldn't let me set my resolution to anything above 1024x768.
According to Prototypes read me, the resolutions are locked at certain levels.
Cards with less than 512 MB cannot access resolutions with widths of greater than 1280 or heights of 720. This means with a card of LESS THAN 512MB VRAM has these available:
640 x 480
800 x 480
800 x 600
1024 x 768
1152 x 720
1152 x 864
1280 x 720
1280 x 800
Cards with less than 1024 MB cannot access resolutions with widths of greater than 1600 or heights of 1080. This means with a card of LESS THAN 1024MB VRAM has these available:

I have been using NetDrive for accessing a remote storage drive using webdav and accessing it as a windows map network drive letter.
However, NetDrive which is free for home use is available as of now only for 32 bit.
I heard about WebDrive but it is very expensive.
If anyone can point to another such freeware for 64 bit OS which allows remote webdav based storage to be accessed as a map network drive in Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
In Windows XP you can use NTBackup to create an image (single file I think) of an entire volume, and then later open the backup and view the entire directory structure and restore individual or multiple select files. Is there an equivalent to this in Windows 7 and Windows 8?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have currently as you can see in my system specs the 9800 gx2 card which has 2 gpu's that add up to 1gb memory when its in sli mode. My question is is it better for me to use my 8800 gtx then the 9800 gx2? both use pci express but the 9800 uses the pci express 2 or x16 whatever it is. My mobo only has pci express so im not really getting the full power out of the 9800 gx2 as it is. Looking for a opinion if i should change out for the 8800 gtx. Planning on a new build in a couple months anyhow with all updated parts. But for the time being i was curious.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect to a wireless router in the house I share with roommates. It is not my router, just what they give me access to with my rent. They are using a WEP key with this router. Just for clarity I will even post the WEP key (since no one on here will know what router this is for). The 5 byte WEP key in hexadecimal is 18 01 44 62 AE. the first 2 characters have no viewable ASCII character equivalent and Windows 7 doesn't appear to allow me to enter in the Hex values when entering a WEP key. So, can Windows 7 not handle this or can the WEP key for a network be entered in Hex format somewhere and I just don't know where yet?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI use my acre aspire 552 amd athion x2 p320 OS regularly with norton antivirus. I tried to turn on my laptop and windows has failed to load. I have tried safe mode and launching the Self launching fix which has sort of fixed the problem however it take about 40 minutes to progress from the start page to the desktop. Furthermore the toolbars don't has changed into almost a windows 98 equivalent. I launched norton and it told me my computer was at risk with problems being intrusion Prevention.

I know its an old card.. but its still decent.
ATI have put it under the Legacy support list? but if i try and install that.. Windows 7 wants to tell me that the Microsoft Corporation WDDM Driver is better and wont let me install it.
is there a work around this?

I just finished upgrading my g-card from a nVidia 9800 GT to a Radeon HD 5770, now when i turn on my comp, it gets stuck at the windows start up screen.
I tried putting back in my old g-card and it starts up fine, I also used driver sweeper and uninstalled my nvidia drivers but still no luck. I also cleared my CMOS, still no luck. I'm out of ideas!!
Is there a way to do the equivalent of a system file check on a BIOS? I just installed a BIOS update on my friend's new (Win7, 64bit) Compaq CQ57, and it occurred to me that checking it - maybe running a checksum on it? - would be a good idea. I'm going to install an Ubuntu partition on this machine. I can't find it now, but I seem to recall running across something about running a checksum on a BIOS from a Linux OS.

Im simply trying to install from vista 64-bit. This is my first windows install. it starts the install then on the first reboot it goes to a black screen with only a curser, ive been trying for ever and i just cant figure this out...

View 1 Replies View Relatedive installed windows 7 in c drive i deleted the hard drive first before i installed it. now my mouse keeps freezing every so often but when i press a button it refreshes for a few seconds before freezing again ive updated as much as i can i put in a old graphics card and windows seemed to run a little better although not by much i have a navidia 9800gtx+ gigabyte and have no idea what to do i have spent lots of hours looking for a solution on threads to this problem but to no avail if anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

I've updated to the latest driver and cannot find the settings in the Nvidia Control Panel to change the hardware acceleration.

96.85 is the driver comes with Windows Update for FX 5200 cards. The problem is this driver makes my computer freeze at random times. For full details This Thread.
I've found 97.34 and 98.16 are also compatible and enable Aero. However all of those cause my system lock up as told in the linked thread. I am using 169.21 Forceware which is a XP driver and that can't support Aero interface.
Is it a way to combine this two working and not working drivers? Like modded INFs?

When I check the Device manger, it still recognize [Standard VGA Graphics Adapter].

There's one that's still giving me troubles though; my graphics card. I've got an XFX GeForce 6200 512MB AGP 8x. This is the second time I've had an issue with this card. I powered off my system, plugged the card in, and rebooted. I didn't touch anything in the BIOS, as my old Radeon 9250 worked fine before.
I log on to Windows, and I get the 'Installing Device Driver' or whatever popup. It runs, installs, says everything is fine, but I need to restart for it to take effect, so I do. I get back into Windows, expecting some Aero windows to greet me, but no. In Device Manager, I have the little yellow /!. It says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
This also happened in Windows Vista Ultimate SP1.
So, I upgraded from 32-bit Vista to Windows 7 RC. All went well, except for my computer now only detects (under Display Adapters) a Standard VGA Adapter. I have a Dell XPS M1530 notebook, and it came with a nVidia GeForce card, I believe it was a GeForce 8600M GT. I right-clicked and told it to check for hardware changes, but it will not detect the graphics card.
Because of this, it is not displaying any of the Aero effects, etc, and my second monitor is not receiving any signal although it is properly connected.
Does anyone know how I would be able to fix this?
I installed the RC 64 bit with no problems onto my ASUS M50Vm with 4GB DDR2, 2.53 dual core, 320 GB HD, nVidia GeForce 9600GT. However, it doesn't seem to think my graphics card exists. I tried to update drivers, but it won't let you update drivers for a device you don't have. I went into device manager and the card is not under display adapters. So i thought maybe it's in the unknown section. Not there either. Just to be sure I went back into Vista and checked which PCI slot the card is in, and went back in to the RC and nothing in the device manager is in that slot.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to get my dual monitors working on my Windows 7 machine. It used to work under XP but now with both monitors plugged in, I get no mouse curser on the log in screen, and after logging in, the screen goes blank.
The second monitor (VGA) doesnt even show the POST startup and never gets any input. If I unplug the primary monitor (DVI) the second (VGA) monitor works and vice versa. I have installed the latest Nvidia drivers but no change. Any ideas please anyone?
