X64 Won't Detect GeForce Card, Only VGA
So, I upgraded from 32-bit Vista to Windows 7 RC. All went well, except for my computer now only detects (under Display Adapters) a Standard VGA Adapter. I have a Dell XPS M1530 notebook, and it came with a nVidia GeForce card, I believe it was a GeForce 8600M GT. I right-clicked and told it to check for hardware changes, but it will not detect the graphics card.
Because of this, it is not displaying any of the Aero effects, etc, and my second monitor is not receiving any signal although it is properly connected.
Does anyone know how I would be able to fix this?

I recently upgraded from windows vista and i have to say everything runs so much better in windows 7 than vista except for the fact i cant get it to detect my second video card. One card is a 8800gts and second is a 6800gt both nvidia. I have switched the card slots and whatever card is in the first slot detects and installs normally but the card in second slot does not detect at all. I have tryed both windows 7 drivers and vista drivers wich dont fix anything. Ive tryed to manually install the second card threw hardware but i keep getting an error installing the device. Has anyone had this problem or know a solution?

Won't Detect Another Partition
I installed Windows 7 earlier today and I like it so far but I have a question: I partitioned 25 GB out of a 140GB HDD through Vista(I have Vista and Win 7 dual-booted), and Windows 7 will not recognize the partition of the hard drive that I have Vista installed on. Is anyone else having this problem and if so, do you know any fixes other than just reporting the error to Microsoft?

Won't Detect Primary Monitor
I'm using a Sager 3790 notebook with 2 GB of memory, a Centrino 1.7 Ghz and a Mobility Radeon 9700. Installation went perfectly. The card was detected by Windows Update and drivers were isntalled for it. They're from December 2008. Okay, that's fine and dandy... BUT... As soon as the drivers install the highest resolution available on the primary display is 640x480. Why? Because Windows won't/can't detect my primary monitor. It shows up as an "Unknown display device." I can attach an external monitor and adjust its resolution all day. I can also remote into the laptop and that works fine. I am nearly 100% confident that I cannot change the display resolution because the monitor won't detect correctly. I can't manually force an install of a monitor or change the "Unknown display device" driver because that section is grayed out in the "Advanced Settings" under the Display Resolution tab. Any ideas?

Win 7 Clean Install Won't Detect SATA Drive
I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my desktop that is currently running Vista and XP on a dual boot. I want to eliminate the dual boot and do a clean install with Windows 7. I have a Western Digital SATA drive WD2500KS. If I try to install "custom" it will not detect the drive and wants to load drivers. If I try to upgrade it shows the drive and both partitions and want's to know which partition. I ran the Windows 7 compatibility program and it shows the drive and no issues pertaining to installation. How do I get a clean install to recognize the hard drive? Processor is Intel Core2 Quad CPU 2.4 Ghz.

Won't Detect My Blank Disc For Ubuntu Image On Disc
I have a blank rewritable cd from office depot that I have not gotten my computer to detect while its blank, nor when I put ubuntu onto it. I know that its detected on my dad's 32 bit vista, which is the same computer I used to burn the image on Roxio. And I know that it boots with the burned on ubuntu on his computer. But it will not detect it after multiple tries on my computer. Neither during bootup or after bootup. Regular CDs and DVDs are detected and play fine though. Specs: I have Windows RC on this computer. The drivers say they are updated and working. This is a laptop that originally came with Vista x64, that I have reformatted first with Windows 7 Beta 32 bit, then Windows 7 RC 32 bit. NVidia GeForce 8500 GT, Drivers Won't Install
I have Windows 7 32bit installed on an ASUS P5RD1-VM mobo with an nVidia Geforce 8500 GT graphics card. I have tried numerous times to install the Windows 7 (32bit) Driver from manufacture site, but when it tries to install the drivers, I get an error message saying "No drivers were found that work with your device. Setup will now close." I don't get this! I'm on that graphics card right now, in Windows 7, and typing this thread... Also, in Device Manager, there is no "Display Adapter" listed.... I can't seem to find any evidence of a generic display driver either.... I've already solved the problem of my sound not working (SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio) and this is the last thing I need to get Windows 7 working for a REAL test run! How can I get these drivers installed?

Win7 X64 Won't Recognize My Raid Drivers As Signed
I've been running the RC for around 3 months now and love it. I didn't have any issues when I installed it. I added the drivers for my raid card when the select partition option came up, it installed them and away it went. Now that I'm trying to install the retail version it insists that my drivers are unsigned and that's the end of that. I've tried using the repair system work around to get the drivers loaded; but that option says that the drivers don't match my installed hardware. I'm using the exact same driver I used for the RC, on the same thumb drive in fact. Plus, Promise says they're signed. I know there isn't a problem with the raid card because I'm on the system now. Anybody have any ideas?

Matrox Win 7(x64) Display Driver Won't Install
I'm having problems installing my Matrox driver on windows 7(x64) version. I've been using the 32bit version of windows 7, and i managed to get the matrox driver installed no problem. (i used the windows compatibility mode) I've tried the same method again (Windows compatibility mode) and downloaded the Vista(x64) version of the driver. It suggests the right diver to install but then says i have an incompatible version of windows. I have read up on the problem, and i have seen suggestions to check that the device ID is listed in the display drivers .inf file. I've checked that and my device ID does exsist in the driver .inf file. So now i'm stumped, is there another way to install my driver? Does anyone have any suggestions as to why my driver won't install.

CF Card In Express Slot Won't Use Readyboost
I recently bought a fast Lexar Compact Flash card so I could use it for Ready-boost, unfortunately I discovered my Asus F3KE doesn't have a CF slot, so I put the card in my desktop pc which also runs RC1, it allowed me to select Ready-boost for the card and ran ok (a bit slow but that's because it was in a USB 2.0 card reader). But as I had bought the card to speed up my laptop I decided to buy an express card CF reader and use that to connect the CF card to the laptop, Windows 7 picked up the adapter and CF card straight away, and the CF card showed up as a removable card in My Computer, then came the annoying part, no Ready-boost tab would show up for the card, after some googling and fiddling I figured out it must be because Windows 7 sees the drive as an IDE device instead of a usb one, and therefore won't let you use Ready-boost on it. After being frustrated for a while I suddenly though, hey it's an IDE device I can just put the page-file on it instead, I was wrong, in the virtual memory settings W7 doesn't show the CF card as a drive in the list, I guess this is because it's marked as a removable drive by W7. So my question is, can I force Ready-boost to use the CF card, I'd heard W7 had improved handling of different devices for Ready-boost, or if I can't force Ready-boost can I make W7 see the drive in the virtual memory drive list, maybe by flagging it as non removable? I don't mind playing with the registry so any advice would be helpful, also will this be fixed in the RTM? Some more info - The CF card shows as a drive in HDTUNE and averages 35MB/s with an access time of 0.3ms so definitely capable of Ready-boost.

AT&T 3G Card Software Won't Install In 6956
The Dell Mobile Broadband Card software installs and works fine in Windows 7 v.6801 64-bit but will not install in 6956 (32-bit). It gets most of the way through and then rolls back to nothing. The Compatibility Troubleshooter didn't help no matter what combination I tried. Besides 6801, I have successfully used the same software in XP Pro x86, XP Pro x64, Vista 32-bit and Vista 64-bit. I read somewhere that IE8 might be the culprit so I vLited the 6956 without IE8 but it still will not install. Any ideas?

Generic External USB Sound Card Won't Work
So I installed 7 Pro RTM, and plugged in my external sound card and no dice. I wouldn't normally care as I have a working PCI soundcard, except that its a really really high quality DAC, and it cost me a lot of money, so I'd rather not just forget all about it On XP it uses just generic usbaudio.sys, it works on macs, linux, etc without any issues. What can I try? I attempted to copy across a windows xp version of usbaudio.sys, but that didn't seem to help (I'm not entirely sure I did this correctly).

Creative SB0790 Sound Card Drivers Won't Install
I'm running Windows 7 on a dual-boot system with XP Home SP2. The sound card is a Creative SB0790 (X-Fi Extreme Audio), which works fine under XP. I've downloaded the most recent Vista drivers from Creative. The installation routine reports "driver version not found". Has anyone succeeded in installing this card?

All Programs Won't Display And Speech Recognition Won't Start
My speech recogntiion won't start. I don't have a system restore that far back, but it hasn't been working since 3, maybe 4 updates back and I am now just getting around to it, since I have had other concerns lately. The error I get is "Speech recognition could not start because the language configuration is not supported. The recognizer language must match the language of the user interface. Please change the recognizer language in the Speech Recognition control panel under Advanced Options." I go there and press certain buttons and I sometimes get the error message "The requested task can not be carried out because the neccesary engine can not be created. Please select a different engine and/or audio device." I have tried changing the laguage and then restarting and it still won't work. I am using the same mic I was using before when it worked. I have not installed any new sound drivers when it stopped although I have looked for the sound drivers since and there are no new ones. I also had two other problems after the same Windows 7 update with the All Programs not displaying in the Start Menu, but I have dont a temporary fix with that, but it is still not working the way it is supposed to as I had to make a new sub folder in the Programs folder and change the location to that folder every time I start up Windows and so now I go into All Programs and then a second folder, which is ok for now, gonna write a batch file to do it for me anyway. The other problem is that my sidebar wouldn't start, but I think I fixed that last night. As my gadgets are now working.

Disable Default VGA To Enable Another Graphic Card
I have a somewhat older Dell that is more than capable of running Windows 7 (it also runs Server 2008 R2 quite nicely). The problem is that the onboard ATI graphics only has 16MB of RAM and is only recognized as Standard VGA Adapter. This is really unjust, so I obtained an NVidia FX 5200 for next to nothing and placed it in a free PCI slot. Much to my surprise, the BIOS has no settings for disabling the onboard video. It also has no settings for instructing it to look to the PCI first. As a result, the onboard video is always active during POST. I disabled the onboard video from Device Manager, shut down, and installed the new NVidia PCI card. I rebooted with the monitor attached to the PCI card. Nothing. I switched the monitor to the onboard video and sure enough, there it was. The NVidia had also been detected and was showing up as a Standard VGA Adapter with Code 10 -- cannot start. Not a problem, I thought. I had yet to install the NVidia driver, and the onboard video had already claimed the default VGA during POST, so this was not surprising. I installed the recommended 96.85 Forceware drivers for the NVidia FX 5200. These are the Vista 64bit drivers. Windows accepted it without problem and I swapped the monitor back to the NVidia during the reboot. What I was expecting is that the display would be blank during boot because the onboard video is active. I assumed Windows would switch to the NVidia when it started because I had installed the driver and instructed it to disable the onboard video. I was wrong. Blank display. I switched back to the onboard video and my display returned. The Nvidia card was recognized in Device Manager and it was showing "This device is working properly". The onboard video still had the disabled icon next to it. Yet I cannot choose the NVidia when I go to Screen Resolution and other screen preferences. It is using a blank video adapter -- looks like VgaSave. Have I gone wrong somewhere? Or is there a more appropriate driver I should be using? Thoughts and suggestions would be helpful. Keep in mind the onboard video cannot be disabled in BIOS, nor can the BIOS be instructed to look to the PCI first for video. There are no BIOS updates available. There is no AGP slot, only two PCI slots. This is what I have to work with.

Sapphire Radeon HD 4670 And Second VGA Card Problem
Had a frustrating afternoon trying to get my triple-monitor setup going again; I had WinXP for years with two video cards: a single, simple VGA / PCI card, and a recent Radeon HD 4670 card with two outputs. Under XP everything was recognized without incident, first repeating all three monitors and then able to extend windows to this monitor under Display Preferences. Now under Windows 7 RC, I did a fresh install with both cards inserted, and only the single VGA card would drive its monitor. The HD 4670 drivers are listed in the Device Manager, I removed and installed the ATI 9.9 version software several times, and the single VGA output is the only thing I get. I even tried the 'F8', selected the unsigned drivers, and still it didn't bring the Radeon to life. I pulled the single VGA card out, and bam the two monitors off the Radeon come alive. I install the CCC and it works just fine. And then I shutdown, add the VGA card back, and get the single VGA output again.

HP DC7100 Does Not Detect HD 600 Tuner Card
I have a HP DC7100 and can not get it to detect a HD600 Tuner card. If I try to run a new hardware scan it just hangs. When I try to load the drivers for the card it get to the point where it is detecting the video and I get a blue screen (dump) and the PC reboots. I've tried running the drivers in compatibility mode but I get the same results. I can't force load the drivers because the PC doesn't detect the card. The weird thing is the card worked in Media Center with 7 Beta even though it didn't show up in Device Manager but stopped working with RC.

Unable To Detect A Video Card With Hardware Acceleration
I've been slowly working my way through my games collection, testing for compatibility. The stumbling block so far is Neverwinter Nights 2 - I get the following error when trying to run: Unable to detect a video card with hardware 3Dacceleration. Neverwinter Nights 2 requires a video card that supports then please make sure that it's enabled. The support forums over at Obsidian have found a work-around - replacing the dxdiagn.dll file in the current DirectX release with the earlier version from Vista (v 5.03.2600.2180). Obviously this isn't exactly testing the Release candidate, so is there a 'fix' in the works and will it be obtainable through the Windows Update? Apparently things were fine up til Beta build 7057 - before that the game ran happily. A mention is made of a fix in Build 7122 - will this fix be downloadable or will we have to wait until the final release, or apply the hack above?

 i have a personal computer , model Hp Compaq Dc 7100 i installed windows 7 build 7068 which work perfect,i could install all drivers normally from windows 7 Cd but i cant install vga card driver from CD My Vga Card is (Intel(R) 82915G GV 910GL Express Chipset Family)  but when i update my windows via internet it remind me with uninstalled driver for vga card and asking for my permission to install or no and when i click ok it will be installed Ok ..  but when i removed windows 7 Build 7068 and installed windows 7 Build 7100 same thing happen to me that vga card driver don't installed automatically and when i try to update my windows 7 Build 7100 via internet it does not given me even the driver for vga card, then i installed 7068 again and i installed vga card by using Microsoft update then i backed up the driver of vga card then i removed 7068 and i installed 7100 again and i tried to use or update my vga with backed up file but it give error message that this driver is not supported for this system.

HP Can't Detect DVD/CD Buring Drive
I just purchased a dv7-1261wm and installed Windows 7. But in Device Manager, it shows 5 drivers that didn't install. There are 4 listed as "Base System Device" and 1 as "Unknown Device". I've installed all the drivers from HP's site, but that didn't help. The main issue though is the CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Rom drive doesn't detect in any burning programs. It shows as installed fine, but burning programs can't access it.

Win7 Doesn't Detect Any Hardware
I bought Windows 7 Home 64bit OEM a few days ago to go along with a few other upgrades (more ram and a new video card). I installed everything before doing the OS install, but didn't bother optimizing/drivers etc. Anyway, after installing Windows 7 the computer booted up and whatnot, networking and internet worked etc...but Device Manager doesn't recognize any of my components. Essentially it considers everything to be generic and I'm having a hell of a time getting the drivers installed. Should I just be downloading them from the manufacturers website and installing them? All I've been able to get installed are the mobo driver (not the audio, though). The other drivers tend to fail during installation or, in the case of my video card, I get a black screen (though when I reset it back to the default generic VGA settings it works OK). System doesn't detect my sound card, disk drive brands, video card, DVD-RW player etc. Here is my set-up. I'd appreciate some direction. I'm sure I'm missing something, but I'm not sure what. Windows 7 Can't Detect Older Partition
I have Windows XP on another partition and Windows 7 is unable to detect it. I've read that this is a Vista problem and doesn't detect older versions of Windows. It did work the first time I restarted and said "Earlier Versions of Windows", but after the next restart it disappeared.

Standard VGA Driver Doesn't Support DVD Playback
My old ATI RADEON Mobility 7500 graphics card is not supported in/under Windows7, so I use the rather fine MS-provided Standard VGA driver. Unfortunately this approach doesn't support DVD playback in Windows Media Player: Each time I insert a DVD and WMP starts playing I get an error message that analog copyright protection is nott supported by the driver. Now: Can't the Standard VGA driver be corrected/extended thus that it would allow/support DVD playback? It's entirely up to MS (e.g. to lock the VGA output during DVD playback) from my point of view ..

Win 7 X64 Freezes With Galaxy GeForce 250
My system used to work fine with the onboard video card. But, video performance was subpar so I bought a new Galaxy GeForce 250 video card. When I boot the computer with the GeForce 250 installed, it tends to freeze at the windows screen. Sometimes, very rarely, it will continue to boot to Windows and will work fine, but 95% of the time it freezes. When I unplug the GeForce 250 and use the onboard video card, it boots just fine.
