Directx 11 And Graphics Card Geforce 8800 GTX (BFG)
Nov 11, 2009
I have just installed Windows 7 at home and things are generally working okay.
As a gamer I am excited about Direct x 11.
Do I download it from the net? Did it come with Windows 7 automatically, i.e. do I already have it?
Can my card support it?

I'm trying to update my geforce 8800 using nvidias latest drivers. My problem is that Windows 7 keeps reverting back to the old drivers. The setup runs smoothly but there is no reboot option and the device manager still show the old driver. I have been searching the web for an answer for quite some time now so if you have any idea please let me know.

Quote: AMD set to release DirectX 11 graphics card
The launch of AMD's DirectX 11 graphics card will coincide with Microsoft's Windows 7 launch in October
Advanced Micro Devices will soon launch a graphics card that supports Microsoft's DirectX 11, which aims to make graphics in Windows 7 seem smoother and more realistic.
The release of AMD's first DirectX 11 graphics card would coincide with the launch of Microsoft's upcoming Windows 7, AMD spokesman John Taylor said on Thursday.
The DirectX 11 graphics card will belong to the ATI Radeon line, but Taylor declined further comment on product details or pricing.
The graphics card maker has been demonstrating an ATI Radeon graphics card with DirectX 11 support since June, but has not made a specific product announcement yet.
Microsoft's upcoming Windows 7 has built-in support for new DirectX 11 tools, but there is no hardware available yet that supports those tools. With the new card, AMD will beat rival Nvidia to market.
Nvidia has also said it would support DirectX 11, but has not yet made a product announcement. Intel, which mostly offers integrated graphics on chipsets, in June released updated graphics drivers for Windows 7, but offered support for only DirectX 10.
The DirectX 11 tools include a set of APIs for realistic images and better sound when playing games or watching movies. For example, game developers will be able to create smoother and realistic images in a game through better three-dimension modelling.
Most of the discrete graphics cards support existing DirectX 10 and 10.1 tools, which are built into Windows Vista.
DirectX 11 tools are also designed to help Windows 7 recognize multicore systems to improve performance of graphics and other applications.
A feature called "Compute Shader" harnesses the parallel processing capabilities of GPUs (graphics processing units) to improve gaming on PCs. These improvements could make games more realistic through faster frame rates.
The tools also help break up multiple tasks effectively over existing CPU and GPU cores. For example, DirectX 11 will enable video conversion on the fly simply by dragging and dropping video from PCs to portable devices. Read more at the forums...

As I understand it, Windows 7 includes DX11, which is backward compatible with DX10 cards (which is what I have - 8600GTS). However, I began to wonder as to whether or not the new DX11 could be causing the unresolved issues with crappy video quality as compared to the same exact video being run in XP (with previous DX version, I believe it's 9).
No matter what codecs I install/uninstall, the video just looks worse in quality on Windows 7 than it does in XP. Does anything think this could possibly be a DX issue? If so, is there anything I can do about this?

I've been experiencing problems with my card since yesterday. While I went to class in the morning, I returned within an hour to a monitor that was completely black.
After restarting, my screen is forced at 800x600 and they are Trippe bar lines all around my screen. Since then I've reinstalled Windows 7 multiple times, downloaded new drivers, and updated my bios.
None of which is helping. I'm thinking maybe Windows update downloaded something while I was gone that forced my card to be undetected.
I uninstalled the 8800GT and the drivers thinking maybe a new installation might solve it, but now (the new driver) is saying it doesn't recognize Windows 7 32-bit as actually being Windows 7 32 bit.
Now I'm stuck with it not even detecting a graphics card.

I have been using this pc for over 2 years. In the Spring of this year the pc kept crashing. I have found out that the graphics card is reaching temperatures of 105 degrees C when playing games. I have cleaned all the fans in the pc with air. I have been told the heat sync is probably no longer functioning correctly. GPU temp is 66 deg C when the pc is in normal use and fan speed 40%. As soon as I play games the fan goes to 100% and the temperatures rise until the card crashes.

I've got a Dell Inspiron 580, not very old...everything about it is okay, except the integrated graphics card. Someone recently gave me a GeForce 6600 card, and my GF bought me GW2 in anticipation.
I've got it installed, it seems to be properly seated on the motherboard, and it's connected to the power supply(had to get an adapter to make that work, it's got a 4-pin molex connector and all mine are 15-pin SATA's), but my computer doesn't seem to want to recognize it.
I've been to the GeForce site to try and download drivers, but it says it can't detect any hardware. Likewise, when I'm under Device Manager and I scan for hardware changes, nothing comes up under Display Adapters, it's still just the "Intel(R) HD Graphics" all by its lonesome.

I just installed windows 7 professional last night and when trying to personalize my theme, i realized that i couldn't change window color. It only gave me the contrast themes unlike in vista where i could choose the color and it would still look like vista. I'm not sure if that last sentence made much sense, but i hope you get the idea. I can still use the desktop backgrounds and sounds, but not the aero window colors.
When I go to device manager, the only graphics adaptor it shows is the standard VGA. When I had Vista I didn't have any problem. But now that I have Windows 7, the OS won't detect the graphics card. Is it not compatible with Windows 7? I saw another post with a fix for the 8400M GT, and was wondering if maybe there was hope for me.

I recently reinstalled windows and replaced my old NVIDEA Geforce 9600GT which finally died with a new Geforce GTX 460. However, when I installed the drivers, it completely disabled my motherboard's onboard Realtek Azalia soundcard, and for the last few days I've had no sound at all. Nothing I've done has fixed the problem, and every time I try to uninstall the drivers for everything relating to my video card, the HDMI audio devices reinstall themselves from no discernible source every single time I boot up like a virus.I'm about ready to take this pathetic video card back to the shop and demand a refund and get a video card that is not going to screw with my computer like this.

Now when i start up my computer normally "start windows normally" i get blue screen and the computer re-starts. When i run dxdiag it says i have no graphics card so im not really sure if its broken or if i have re installed it incorrectly.

i have heard a lot of my friends saying that they are unable to play high resolution and high definition games on their pc and told that they are on a low budget to buy a graphics card.here is a solution for that:there is a software named 3-d analyzer available in the internet which acts as a virtual graphics card for playing games. you can enter the graphic card needed from the 4 available graphic cards available and then you can get the attributes of that graphic card..if fine tuned, you can play games at the range of a 128mb ram virutal graphic card on your non graphic card pc. note:graphic intensive games, that requires atleast 512mb of graphics memory can't be played through 3d analyzer if you don't have a graphic card, but you can try running it if you have a 256/128 mb card. steps for using the 3-d analyzer software, *first download the file from here, *then extract that software and open the software, *then, select the exe file of the game that you want to run, *choose the select option, *then you can choose the attributes the options you require to play the game,*the attributes may be pixel shader or disable rendering in the game or emulation or some other options specified, *then, enter the device id and the vendor id for the graphics card you need from the available graphics card on the right.*i would suggest the ati radeon 9800pro to run most of the games like fifa 08/09 or prince of persia two thrones/sands of time, *then choose the run option and then i assure that the game would run for you at a decent/playable speed. note:1.if it shows any error that a file is not found pls reinstall the software.2.if the screen turns black/blank then play with the options in the s/w, by trial and error method,if fortunate, may be,you'll be able to run your favorite game.3.if pixel shader/shader version x.x not found, then select the appropriate shader model and run the game. all the best..happy gaming..if any queries post it below.how to: use 3d analyzer video at Internet

Which gpu has better graphics performance. I have the choice between those two (Geforce 630m or Radeon 7670m). I'm looking to buy a new laptop soon and that is the two I have choices from. I'd like to know which would be better. It would be for gaming some,Photoshop (graphics design and image editing), Skype, and so forth. They're both around the same price range, so I'd like to get the best for the money. They'll both be equipped with a Intel Core i5. The Geforce is priced a little higher than the Radeon, but not too much. As I said, they're around the same price. I've always liked Geforce, but I'd like an opinion.

So, I upgraded from 32-bit Vista to Windows 7 RC. All went well, except for my computer now only detects (under Display Adapters) a Standard VGA Adapter. I have a Dell XPS M1530 notebook, and it came with a nVidia GeForce card, I believe it was a GeForce 8600M GT. I right-clicked and told it to check for hardware changes, but it will not detect the graphics card.
Because of this, it is not displaying any of the Aero effects, etc, and my second monitor is not receiving any signal although it is properly connected.
Does anyone know how I would be able to fix this?

OK, so I have a BFG Geforce 9800 GT OC 1GB GDDR3 card.
Now, onboard video memory is 1024MB, obviously. However, whenever I do dxdiag, it tells me that I have "Approx. Total Memory: 494 MB".
What the hell? That's less than half of what I actually have. I didn't actually notice this until today, when I went to play Prototype on my PC for the first time, and it wouldn't let me set my resolution to anything above 1024x768.
According to Prototypes read me, the resolutions are locked at certain levels.
Cards with less than 512 MB cannot access resolutions with widths of greater than 1280 or heights of 720. This means with a card of LESS THAN 512MB VRAM has these available:
640 x 480
800 x 480
800 x 600
1024 x 768
1152 x 720
1152 x 864
1280 x 720
1280 x 800
Cards with less than 1024 MB cannot access resolutions with widths of greater than 1600 or heights of 1080. This means with a card of LESS THAN 1024MB VRAM has these available:
The following are only available for cards with 512MB VRAM or more:
1280 x 1024
1440 x 900
1600 x 1200
1680 x 1050
1920 x 1080
1920 x 1200
2048 x 1152
2048 x 1536
2560 x 1600 Where is the rest of my VRAM?

i have a MSI notebook with Nvidia Geforce 8400M G.
i recently installed windows 7 professional (final version, not RC or beta), and discovered a serious problem: it doesn't recognize my Graphic card. instead it claims i have a "Standard VGA graphic adapter" (in dxdiag, device manager etc.). because of that i cant download any Nvidia drivers, cause the setup always says "Nvidia couldn't find a driver compatible with your hardware". that's, again, because windows 7 doesn't recognize my card.
i tried also uninstalling the VGA adapter from device manager, but after restarting it just installing it again.
is there anything i can do? should i wait for windows updates to come and fix my problem? i really don't want to install windows again. is my card not supported, is my Computer not supported?
