View 6 Replies View RelatedI was working on setting up a PC for network usage with the understanding that it hadn't been used muchpreviously.Unfortunately I found that it had a PC name already existing on the network and went to change the PC name and IP address as needed for a static IP environmentHowever, after selecting to "restart" the system never rebooted up and I cannot seem to access the CD drive to place a restore CD or basically do anything with the PC.Any ideas on what happened?I've unplugged the computer and waited a few seconds to plug it in.Once replugged it returns to having the basic lights on it blink about once every few second and appears to be otherwise disabled.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAll I did was open a video strored locally with no connection to the internet. Shut down computer properly. I go to start it up and start up repair kick in. I have let the thing run on startup repair over night and a total of 12 straight hours. It reboots once, maybe even twice. Then it just sit a says attempting repairs. I just did a hard shut done. I was able to pull the data off using Uburba (not sure of the spelling). The USB 2.0 is not recognized in start up repair command prompt. I had a image saved to a CD. I can't get past the username password. The one I had wrote down does not work. System restore fails because I can't it doesn't have a .DDL file or it says something. If I could get the USB 2.0 to work I have an external that has a couple of images that would be better than re-installing. I tried moving the image into the computer then using the image restore, but I learned that doesn't work because it somehow tracks were it wrote the image to. This is way I need the usb 2.0 to pull the image from my external HD.What is the default password of HomeGroupUser$?

Instead of being an icon that displays a disk, it is an icon that displays something like a crab! What is that?! Is it some kind of virus? How can I change it to the default icon?!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a different sort of problem with grouping.
See, I'm a game modder, and this requires me to have many folders open at once. The problem is, when my computer goes to sleep and then wakes up, the order of my folders on the taskbar is changed. This bugs me to no end, and I'm wondering how I can stop this reordering from happening.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter doing some Googling I discovered that it is impossible in Windows 7 to sort files by file extension -- one can only sort by file type, which depends on the file type description. This means that if I want to sort by file type, I need to rename the type descriptions of all my most commonly used files.
In addition, the only place where I can see a file's extension is in the file name itself, and not e.g. in the status bar when a file is selected. In Windows 7, the file type description (not the file extension) is also in the status bar.
In other words, in Windows 7 all files labelled e.g. "Opera Web Document" are sorted as if they have the same file type, regardless of whether they are .html, .htm, .mht, etc. And if I select a file and look at the status bar, the file's type is indicated as "Opera Web Document", without any clue as to the file extension. The only way for me to see the file extension is to increase the width of the "Name" column until the end of the file name becomes visible.
So... my question is:
Is there an easy way to simply rename the file type descriptions? I see that my JPG files are named "JPG File" and my PNG files are named "PNG" file, which is extremely useful. What I now want is to rename my HTML, HTM and MHT files' file types to "HTML File", "HTM File" and "MHT File", and the same would apply to all file types I often use (e.g. DOC, DOCX, XLS, XML, TXT, etc).
