So I'm having a problem with my desktop Icons. The shortcuts are all working but their Icons are not unless I set my desktop to show large icons, which looks ridiculous. I have reset the Icon Cache twice without success.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI think I may have screwed up royally with my still-new computer. Essentially, my problem is two-fold:
1) The shortcut icons on my desktop no longer work. I'm pretty sure I deleted the files from my computer (I'll explain in a little bit). Ex: I try to click on Mozilla, and nothing happens. If I attempt to send the same icon to the Recycle Bin, it will tell me that the file no longer exists. It says: "This is no longer located in "C: UsersKevinDesktop"
2) I am no longer able to access my Gmail. I no, I know that isn't a Windows 7 thing, but let me explain. When I go to Google in Internet Explorer and click on Gmail, I get a message that says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." When I click on the "Diagnose Connection Problems" button, a box that says "A problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting" appears.
So those are essentially my issues. Essentially, everything was working fine before I started messing with my files. Here's the scoop: This is the first computer I've ever had that had a split hard drive (C and D). I noticed that the D drive never had anything saved to it, so I decided that I would move my files that began with the pathway "C: Users" over there. I literally just clicked and dragged that over to the D drive. Then...I noticed stuff was wrong. The issues I mentioned before (shortcuts and GMail) and also that what little music I had on my iTunes was unable to be located.
I realized that it was probably that the shortcut icons, the iTunes songs were looking for files that had been moved...I decided to move them back. So I clicked and dragged the folder in D back over to C. It told me that some of the files already existed in C, and it asked if I wanted to merge them. I said yes. So. Problem still persists. I have figured it out with my iTunes and have got the program to locate everything, but I am still unable to fix the other issues. I can't find those files for the desktop anywhere, and I can't even begin to figure out what to do with the GMail issue, but I feel it has to be linked, right???
i downloaded a video file and when I checked the folder it was downloaded to it was not there. I then used windows explorer to locate the file and it found it. However, I got this error message "this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shorcut will no longer work properly."

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a problem that's been driving me nuts for a few years.I have a desktop and netbook that are both running 64-bit Windows 7. Each computer has a 'Games' folder that I keep my installed games shortcuts in. I like to turn up the icon size to around the 'large icons' option in the folder bar, making the icons larger than the standard 64x64. I like how the large icons look and it's pretty handy to have larger icons on my netbook's 11.6" screen.The problem is that Windows seems unable to keep all the shortcuts locked in at the same size. It doesn't matter if I'm using a custom icon that's 256x256 or using the game's base shortcut icon that scales larger than 64x64 -- Windows will undoubtedly shrink some icons to 64x64 the next time I open the folder.What's really annoying is that it's completely random what icons it resizes. There will be days where a certain icon is 64x64 and then suddenly it scales back up to 256x256.How can I lock my icons to a certain size and not have Windows decide to mess with them? I've tried rebooting, reassigning new icons, changing a shortcut's name (this will sometimes take care of the problem until I reboot), and saving my Windows theme. View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows on my hard drive and now I have a strange issue. I have align to grid selected (as I did before) and now I cant put icons in the lower row. Whenever I try they always move up about an inch from the taskbar.
Is there a way to change the size of the grid or something? I would like to do this without third party software, as it worked fine before.

I have a new Dell StudioXPS 9000 with Windows 7. The desktop shortcut icons that I create myself to run existing programs keep disappearing from the desktop all by themselves. Those that were already on the desktop when I received the computer and those that are created by new software when installed on the computer have no problem remaining on the desktop. I never had the happen with WinXP.

i purchased a new computer and i migrated all my XP sp3 icons over to the new machine. This includes but not limited to favorites, desktop, as well as a third party email client that allows me to store favicons. In total there must be a few hundred shortcut icons.The problem is the icons are not displaying, the only way i can get them to display is by revisiting each site and creating a new shortcut and deleting the old link and placing the new link it its place. This is happening both on desktop and in all files on the directory, no old shortcut icons are showing, they all just default to the standard ie icon.I cant possibly do this with hundreds of icons, i would loose my mind lol.First can you explain the issue and why this is happening, is there a difference between the two formats?Second, is there a better and faster way to fix this without having to revisit each url and create a new shortcut.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi was going to check my email, Thunderbird is set to automatically update on start if there are any updates.So it started updating and all off a sudden all shortcut icon images disappeared! At the time i was to tired to fix the problem but as soon as i woke up today i have done nothing but trying to fix it. The only thing i have changed with my icons are the icon images. But that was for 8 months ago and i have never had any problems with it.This is what the taskbar should look like. This is what it looks like now. Also all other shortcuts in my computer have had their images changed to "this".... The only icons in the taskbar that are not affected are the ones that are not shortcuts, but exe files.

I have a client who suddenly got a red X to appear on her desktop icons instead of the shortcut symbol. Everything seems to work fine. I would assume if I went and deleted the shortcut symbols, the Xs would go away as well.

When I highlight areas of the desktop by dragging the mouse over it it gets rid of the black. It was reinstalled which seemed to help a LITTLE, but sometimes you have to incert a cd 7 or eight times before it will read it. I can see that there is a cd inserted (when I go to my computer I can see the D drive). Just doesn't read them all the time. I have a Dell with a vertical cd drive. When I view it through the control panel it says my driver is up to date.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIt is very strange. If I right click right now anywhere it will work. When I am in any game, however, it acts very strange. The right click sometimes does not register, and other times will be inconsistent.
For example, if I have to hold down the right button for me to eat a jelly bean, it will cancel mid hold, as if I had let go. This all started happening after an episode where I accidentally messed with sticky keys.
I have a Gioteck EX-05 headset, and when I plug it in, my computer detects it and installs the drivers, however it continues to play sound through its speakers and not my headset. The headset appears in device manager, but it is not listed as a playback device in the Devices and Printers section of the Control Panel. I have tried un-installing and Re-installing the drivers, but that doesn't work
