Re-installing Windows 7 Using Recovery DVDs?
Nov 19, 2011
I've been using a HP pavillion dv6 3043TX, with a samsung hard disk, and built-in win.7 home premium and due to power short prob i was recommended by HP to create recovery DVDs (5 discs) and replace it. Now Ive replaced it with a 'seagste' of 450 gb capacity. A friend has installed a version of windows 7 ultimate with partitions. BUT i want to use the original pack i have recovered with all the HP tools and partition.

I have just bought HP pavilion G6 notebook. It came with pre-installed Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, recovery disk of 14 gb and C: Hard drive of 451 gb.
I have made 3 recovery disks(DVDS) using "Recovery Media creation". I Want to Reinstall Windows 7 because 1)want to get rid of recovery disk of 14gb. 2)want to do partition because without partition my system is really slow.
I want to reinstall Windows 7 using these 3 DVDs.

I have downloaded the Windows 8 ISO and its size is 2.52 GB But all the DVDs here in Egypt at the area where I live is crap, they sell PRINCO DVDs and it has 4.7 GB / 120 Min on it but when I insert it into the drive, it reads 1.31 GB. Very strange!!
In this case, can I split the ISO Image and make the Windows 8 into two 2 separate DVDs? If so, how will the installation look like when I install the Windows using 2 DVDs?

Purchased new Acer Veriton VM498G-Ui3550W computer. When trying to create back-up DVD's, system claims that the DVD's aren't formatted and asks to format them. When formatting is ok'ed, the computer works for a while and then states that formatting failed. I have the same results when trying DVD-R, DVD+R, and DVD+R/W discs.
Acer has given me two sets of instructions on how to creaate recovery disks, but both instruct me to launch programs that don't show up on my "Start - All Programs" menu.Acer has offered to send me recovery disks, but I am concerned why the machine will not make them.I did place recovery files (successfully ?) into the data partition of the hard drive, but this will be of no use with a hard drive failure.

I've created the recovery DVDs, but unbeknown to me at the time - you're only allowed to create one set. What i'd like is to put this onto a USB stick.Currently i have:DVD #1 - Boot Media: (312mb)The boot DVD containing "BOOT" folder, BootMgr file which is quite small & Winre.Wim at about 300mb.DVD #2 - Data DVD #1: (4.03GB)factory recovery folder, recovery folder & Autorun fileDVD #3 - Data DVD #2: (3.87GB)factory recovery folder & recovery folder (NO autorun file)DVD #4 - Data DVD #3: (3.04GB)factory recovery folder, recovery folder, LenovoQDrive file, qdrive icon file.My USB stick is 16GB capacity. So basically i'd like to make the USB stick the recovery media. I can't do this from the laptop as Lenovo only let you create one ......... so how can i do this

My rather new Acer Predator G has been acting up lately. I tried a restore point but this doesn't seem to help. As a last resort I was going to format the disk and re-install 7, however Acer never sent me recovery disks and I don't have 7 disks (Came pre-loaded). So my question is, if I can find someone with windows 7 disks can I use them + The CD key that's on the label of my desktop? Or do I need specific ones? Acer will send me recovery disks for 20$ but If I can pull this off for cheaper, I'd like to.

I've just used the windows 7 utility on my hp station pc which is called "restore to factory" and this seems like went smoothly, but when I try to reboot the pc, and after the "preparing pc for first use" there's a text box popping up witch says "could not complete installation of windows, to install windows on this computer, restart the installation" and then the system reboots again, and it all starts over. I dont know how to restart the installation, and I don't have any cd/dvd or usb, tried to download the windows 7 usb/dvd download tool, but as a first step it is requested a .iso file which I don't have, and don't know where to find..

I have a 2 year old Gateway laptop (NV5929u) i5 430M w/ 4GB. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed. The computer crashed with a blue screen a few months ago, and I could not locate the recovery disks, so I ordered a set from Gateway (1 System disk, 2 Recovery disks, 1 Language disk). My attempts at recovery were unsuccessful and I got the msg: failure disk 0 partition 3. I replaced the HD with a brand new one yesterday. My attempts at recovery went a bit further, to the point that the computer loads the information on the various disks, but when it tries to restart.

I recently created a new partition with 200GB of space on my Windows 7 64bit (HP Elite) PC system. I installed Windows XP Professional on that new partition (trying to create dual OS). After Windows XP was installed, I was unable to find "Windows 7" as a boot option under "Startup and Recovery"... I could only see Windows XP Professional. I went to Disk Management and right clicked on the partition where my Windows 7 OS was under, and chose "Make partition active"... I got a warning system MAY not be able to boot, but I chose to proceed anyways. I tried restarting and got an error "BOOTMGR is missing / Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" ... I tried pressing F11 after restarting to get into "System Recovery" but it would go directly to the error message. I was still be able to access everything else during boot except "System Recovery" such as BIOS, etc.I re-installed Windows XP Professional on the same partition... and was now able to get into the Windows XP Pro OS again. I'm still unable to access "System Recovery" when booting. F11 option is being bypassed and going directly into XP OS. This is my first concern, how do I get "System Recovery" to get working again? It used to work before as I re-installed Windows 7 couple of months ago. I can still see "FACTORY IMAGE" drive in My Computer (could be on a different drive letter than before). And second, how do I boot to my original Windows 7 OS (C-drive seems intact and all Win-7 system files are there)?

I would like to know whether it is possible to install Windows 7 HP on the new hard disc from the recovery discs or I have to go in for a new installation disc.

I have a HP laptop with a Vista Home Premium 64 bit on it now that came with no recovery disc from HP like on all DV2 laptops from HP.
So question is if I order the upgrade W 7 Home Premium preorder and install it on my laptop it should be no problem the first time even with out recovery disc since Vista will be on the harddrive. But if I do a second clean format reinstall say a year later (after the first upgrade install) to freshen up my laptop, will there be a problem installing Windows 7 the second time since I have no recovery disc of Vista to put in the DVD as proof?

I am having problems with Windows Media Center being recognized in my computer...I am having to use an external disc player to play dvd's. Cd's play fine, I am able to use my built in disc drive (in the tower/box), but I have no idea as to why it has stopped recognizing dvd's and not allowing Windows Media Center to play them, it used to. I can use Windows Media Player for ripping an burning music, etc. but not WMC!

Just built my new computer but realized that I can't use the same Windows 7 disc/cd-key that's on my old computer because it's only one per computer when I thought it was 3.Looking at the prices on the Windows 7, it costs $119 for upgrade and $200 for full retail. From what I have read, when installing using the upgrade disc, it would detect my previous Windows version and if it's older than XP, or if there's no Windows installed, it would not activate Windows as it isn't a proper license and I would need the full retail one.

Finally got through my first day with Windows 7, must say it does get easier. I'm trying to get the programs onto my new system that I ran using XP. I've been using Nero 6 on my XP system, anything in the new Windows 7 that can burn CDs and DVDs or should I try and download Nero 6 if it works with a 64 bit system?

The problem is that whenever I play any DVD in any player of my choice, the OS Crashes and shows a BSOD every time I try to play DVDs in my PC. My PC has got Intel i865G Chipset with the built-in Intel 82865G GPU. I can't live without watching DVDs! I do have a DVD Player to watch them on my TV, but watching them on my PC is better for me.
