View 9 Replies View RelatedFrom what I can see, this seems to be a fairly common problem across computers...My Dell Inspiron n5010 (Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) sporadically won't read DVDs. A couple of nights ago, it took a couple of tries - last night, I couldn't get it play one at all.Having looked for various fixes, I have tried the following:-Updating drivers-Disabling and re-enabling the drive in device manager-Going into the registry to remove recommended entries (high/low filters i think? I only had the "high" option, which apparently means that fix isn't for me...)-Uninstalling any DVD-burning software that may be interfering with my laptop's own DVD player/software.

When I place a dvd or game cd in it, it makes the dreaded clicking sounds, then stops, then says "insert a disk in drive F." My computer has two devices:

The problem is, my TV only has two HD ports and I have three things to connect to it: TelusTV box, Blu-ray player, and computer. I don't want to have to leave the computer unlocked for all to access, but I'd like it to be as easy as possible for anyone to instantly start playing a disk, preferably without logging into a guest account first.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble tacking down an audio driver for my Dell Inspiron E1705/9400. It has a Sigmatel 9200 HD Audio Codec. As Indicated from device manager
HDAUDIOFUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801CD&REV_1022
VEN 8384 - Sigmatel
DEV 7690 -9200 HD Audio Codec
SUBSYS 102801 - Dell
The audio card is able to output sound however while playing back any prolonged audio, ie music, the playback is unacceptably interrupted with digital artifacts such as skips and pops. This behavior is experienced using a variety of drivers. All drivers have been uninstalled using device manager and then the system has been rebooted before installing the next driver. Also all of the other dell recommended drivers have been installed without a hitch. Finally all windows patches are up to date.I started with the driver provided by Microsoft and continued to try the recommended driver from dell, R171788. I have also tried the following additional driver packages from dell, R108276, R147073, and R171789.

I'm re-installing Windows 7 on an Acer Laptop. This is not my laptop but a friend of my friend's laptop. The Windows 7 installed on the PC is a cracked version namely Windows 7 Eternity. It was installed by some other guy I don't know. The usb port are not functioning but are working. I plugged in my flashdrive and there is no sign of life but when I enter the bios it shows the flashdrive meaning that it works fine but when Window boots up it shows no life. Indicating a problem with Windows. I've tried everything to fix the ports but the last option is to re-install the OS.
He has giving me a disc with Windows Eternity which the guy give him to install but I'm going to install the OEM instead of this cracked pirate copy. To check if the OEM partition is still intact I've installed the cracked copy and used Diskpart. The OEM partition is still there. I've used the disc to format the drive and then rebooted pressed ALT & tapped the F10 key but I don't get the options to re-install OS. What do I do now? other than just installing the cracked copy. I'm guessing when the ot

View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my Dell M1330 and my audio doesnt work (though my headphone jack works). I have looked at several other forums for solutions for this problem, installed several drivers (including but not limited to, R147073, R167846, R171786, and what ever driver dell support recommended me install) and I had my speakers and motherboard replaced. I am pretty sure its a windows 7 problem (according to Dell tech support and my research)

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a two year old Dell PC with Windows 7. I got a virus in my computer that by phone and computer takeover Norton located in my MBR. When they cleaned it my computer will no longer boot up. Norton worked with me for three days on the problem but we were unable to fix the computer. I followed other web sites and repaired my MBR but it still will not boot up. I tried System Repair, Check point, Image, and Dell system restore and all failed. I have tried to use the Windows install CD and all I get is a black screen with a flashing cursor and then after 3 minutes the compute attempts to boot again and fails. I tried everything to try and wipe the drive from C prompt and it will not let me. I have very weak computer skills but I can follow directions and I have wiped a previous computer I owned. (I confirmed that my CD drive is working) I also should mention I have a second hard drive on my computer that I backed everything up to.

I installed a legitimate upgrade of Windows 7 on the C: drive over XP and put it in the new computer. Now, it won't start, and startup repair does nothing. I don't have the XP disk since I bought the computer 7 years ago, and it disappeared since.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new ACER laptop, Win 7, around 2 weeks ago. I have only downloaded Minecraft and Microsoft Office on it..... Today I turned on my laptop and it showed the ACER logo, and froze with the loading bar 3/4s full. So I rebooted because I couldnt think of anything better to do.... and same thing, except it froze again, at 1/2 loading bar. So, getting frustrated, I rebooted a 3rd time, and pressed F2 for setup. Once again. Frozen. In resisting the temptation of picking up the laptop and tossing it at the nearest wall, I put in a freshly, properly burnt, Ubuntu LiveCD in. And it didn't even run that.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI don't know if it's Microsoft's bad OS or this crumby Korean computer - but it sucks to be back with Windows after a decade of Macintosh! This computer randomly fails to wake up. The mouse icon moves, but my screens are all black. I can control-alt-delete to raise the task manager screen. But then clicking does NOTHING.Windows is a **** OS. I hate it. It's always pissed me off since Bill Gates "created" it. Click click click - are you sure you want to click? Why don't you click some more? click click click. Would you like to click again? Are you sure you'd like to click again? And how about all those REALLY helpful popup windows. So thoughtful and caring.Oh yeah, windows. That's why. Such vision.Bill Gates has NO TASTE! I wish Steve Jobs was still alive!here are so many stupid bugs in this system. It reminds me of Millennium Edition. DOes anyone remember that BS? If I didn't need this shite for work I'd burn it. Or enjoy hacking it to bits with an axe.Can anyone help me sort this out? Or am I doomed to continually click stupidly until my tendons freeze up with carpal tunnel and my eyes fall out from staring at the ugly designs everywhere?Lastly, there's an infuriating naming bug - sometimes Windows 7, so intelligently designed, believes a file is open when it is not. Windows won't let you change the name of a file or folder if it believes a file in that folder is open. Brilliant. So, guess what? Yeah, I can't change the effing file name and have to shut down the computer. Since I work in a firm with a high volume of files changing names frequently, I can't tell you how much this pisses me off.Somebody get Windows to hire someone with creative vision who understands how to streamline operations! Someone teach Bill Gates how to paint a picture! In the meantime, I'm going to work on convincing my entire office to move to Mac.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a second hand Dell Dimension 3000 running Windows 7. I have no sound. The drivers are installed in Device Manager (Realtec AC'97), and also (Uniplex Half Modem) both under sound, video controllers. There are no exclamation marks in device manager. All drivers are up to date. Dell diagnostic and Microsoft Fix it both say everything is ok. There is no sound from internal speaker. I tried external speakers via green jack at back & front of machine but there is no option to select these speakers. If I try to play music then nothing happens. When I access the sound option there is a green 'equalizer bar' which goes up and down to tell music is playing...but I can't hear anything. I have checked and mute is not selected-volume is set to 100%. I opened the machine and behind the jack plug seems to be closed with no removable parts. I downloaded the latest Audio Driver from Dell but it says its not compatible with my OS.
I think I've covered everything I've done.
I installed the SP1 update on all thee of my machines. Now my desktop continually restarts about every 10 minutes or so. The other two seem fine.
